Dined out yesterday lunch time.just myself and my wife. Wife ordered beef baps n chips. I ordered the chicken Kiev but was told it'd be 35mins wait, as time was pressing I decided against the wait and opted for beef baos too which were lovely. Staff pleasent and friendly decor decent. O er all good experience but I will now have to return to have the chicken Kiev. If it's a 35.min wait then it must be decent.

Just been for lunch family of 4. I had peppered chicken, chicken was tasteless , best thing on the plate was chips!!!!! Daughter had parmesan, the bechemel sauce was like water, chicken again tasteless and cheese was not parmesan or even cheddar, , hubby had fish and chips okay, grandson had the best which was chilli wedges.... £54 wasted.......

What can i say, im from london originally and moved to sunderland just over 3 years ago. The food at the hastings is by far the best i have tasted from all the pubs we have been trying since we have been here. What helps is the staff are lovely also. In particular louise is amazing , friendly and so good at her job, this make the whole experience spot on.

Came tonight as a family function, I got the mixed grill, I thought great it sounds lovely so I will try that, the food came, chips were lovely, the steak had no taste, onion rings missing off the plate, sausage was cheap quality which I wouldn’t even feed to a dog!! For £20 for a mixed grill it wasn’t the best, I’ve had a better mixed grill/ food in Wetherspoons. One of the members of staff were gossiping behind the bar regarding the function I overheard them speaking, didn’t get the full conversation but could tell it was about us. Second time trying and will be last time save money and go else where. £4.95 for a pint as well quite expensive as well.

Came here as a family of four for my Mams birthday. My Dad really fancied the mince and dumplings so ordered from the daily special menu. What a joke it was. It came on the same size plate as my sons ‘kids menu meal’ I couldn’t quite believe it. £8 for a tiny saucer of food. Bit of advice - maybe advertise your ‘daily specials’ as a small plate menu or light bite menu as there was nothing special about this. Oh and the chips were stone cold for all of us and my sons chicken curry had 2 bits of chicken in. Won’t be coming back.

This is my second review for the Hastings hill and I expected the meals to be the same as my first review but I was so disapointed, we ordered the same meal I had fish and chips again, it was a batter on batter fish that is done to make a smaller fish look a lot bigger, the batter was very soggy and greasy and not very much fish, the chips were ok but the meal was already spoilt and I felt robbed, the wife had curry but there were faults with her meal too, maybe there was a different chef/cook on this day, I don't feel like returning that's for sure.

Thank you to Vicky and the staff at the Hastings Hill on 10th January 2023. We had a gathering at this establishment after a funeral. We catered for 40 people and the food presented was fantastic. Plenty to choose from and the curry went down a storm, everyone who had it loved it. No complaints from anyone about the food when I asked those family and friends present. Plenty selection.

Had my fathers wake at The Hastings Hill as we have been before and food lovely anyway we catered for 40 people at £8 a head, we got a tray measuring approximately 1 1/2 × 1 foot trivet of curry the same rice , 2 trays sandwiches, 1 plate mince pie cut in slices, 1 quiche cut in slices, chicken pieces ( they forgot to put the dip out) a few scotch eggs and a plate of Spring rolls, there were 35 that came back to the wake and no where near enough food for them, 6 of us went without, then the best bit was the dry cake, 4 packets of mr Kipling slices been put on a plate, when my husband went to pay the bill they didnt know what selection we had ordered for £320 and 40 people I think it was more for 20 people, would not recommend it for a wake

Been a few times and sometimes lovely and other times not the best.today one of us ordered kiev and we knew it was half hour wait which we didn't mind but 25 minutes into our wait we were told the chips were frozen chips and not homemade.the hastings are known for lovely homemade chips, they asked if we wanted to cancel order but by this time we were hungry and had an impatient toddler with us. Food came out and it wasn't great, the combo burger had rock hard chicken and a stale bun and of course frozen chips. I waited for our plates to be taken away and usually the waitress asks if meal was ok but we waited that long we just left.i wasnt willing to go to the bar to complain because it embarrassing so we left. Don't think we will eat in here again. Cant complain about the staff because they are lovely but food not the best.

To start we’d booked two tables and the whole current new COVID guidelines were followed politely but firmly. There were a great number of choices including a large specials menu and children ate free with an adult full price meal. Although the very large pub wasn’t full at all we had to wait quite a while to even order drinks, in fact the meals may have been ordered before. Our table was near the door and was a bit draughty and it took a long time for 2 desserts to arrive! The toilet seat was loose and dangerous. Apart from this the pub is large and comfortable and has plenty of TVs, pool table and background music. Food, plentiful, hot and thoroughly enjoyable which is the main thing that will ensure we’d go back as choices were great for our family.

Went in today and offer on of eat out to help out. Apparently if you don't order your meals with your soft drinks you get charged full price . Nowhere else is doing it this way. So it was over 8 quid for 4 diet cokes then I ordered the meals 5 mins later and questioned the drinks and the reply was only half price when you order food at the same time. Have eaten out in a few other places that don't do this. I told them if they do this they should put it on there menu telling people so. And there response was far from polite. As this is just a sly and greedy way ov getting more money. The food was ok but I will never go back there neither will the 5 people I went with.

With the eat in to help out scheme in full flow and a huge selection of food on the website we thought we’d try the Hastings Hill. With a table booked we we quickly realised the menu was reduced which with everything going on was not a problem. Despite the menu having some extremely worrying spelling mistakes (see photo) we both felt there were plenty choices and both ordered a sizzler dish. Paying before hand we thought 2 main courses, 2 drinks and a dessert for £14 was fantastic and eagerly anticipated our food coming. With the restaurant half busy we were disappointed to have to wait 45 minutes before we asked the waitress how long the food would be - this did the trick as it arrived 5 minutes later. The food came and to say it was a let down would be a huge understatement to say the very least. My partners chips were cold and the veg I ordered as a replacement for chips was turnip rock hard in the middle...not the best start! The sizzlers arrived and the best way I could politely describe them was the equivalent to chicken curry you get at school or at a corner cafe. I felt so bad on my partner for her lack of chicken in the sauce that I had to offer her some of mine. To top off a pretty awful meal we had asked the dessert we pre paid to come over as soon as main meals were finished and sure enough 20 minutes of waiting and the jam sponge and custard did not arrive - clearly forgotten about so we asked for a refund. It is worth mentioning the lady on the bar who served us originally apologised for not mentioning a wait on food and was also very apologetic for the quality of food. This was appreciated but after observing other tables meals this standard of food seems to be the norm. We could not wait to leave and even grabbed a McDonald’s on the way home. I am not one to write such a blunt review but I felt this to be necessary after such a bad experience. I did by no means expect Michelin star food with it being a pub environment, but this was less basic than Wetherspoons. I just counted my lucky stars I did not have to pay full price of £9.95 for those cafe-style chicken curry ‘sizzlers’ as that price is criminal. God bless the eat in scheme - but not for good reasons.

Ate hear often and and have left a glowing review in the past, so when our family visited from Australia we decided to take them there to experience the great British pub lunch and hospitality, I was left so embarrassed. I dont know if the place has changed hands or if they are cost cutting. The attitude of the staff and the food was terrible. One of our party ordered the Mediterranean burger(olives peppers etc.)they brought out a cheap veggy patti, (potatoes carrots etc.)the waitress insisted this was the med burger, when we protested a lady came out and admitted they dont do the Mediterranean burgers on the menu and rudely put the money on the table leaving one guest without food. No apology for their mistake or offer of a replacement, our Ozzy guest had to go to the bar and order something else. With hindsight I wish she'd gave us all our money back. The curry was like the quicky crap ones you make with a cheap curry powder. I presume the pie was heated in the microwave which made the pastry soft and lifeless. The yorkshire puddings were the cheap frozen kind. WORST OF ALL, THEY NO LONGER MAKE HOMEMADE CHIPS. Our highlight of the night was going to A and E when the 3year old stook a pea up her nose, I guess that was preferable to putting it in her mouth. We'll not be back.

Stopped by for an early lunch (12 15), and the place was packed. Ordered 2 barbecue chicken melt sandwiches which came with chips and salad, and scampi and chips from the specials menu, costing £7.95 and £5.95 respectively. They are definitely value for money, with the sandwiches being baguettes, cut in half with copious amounts of filling, salad and home made chips, and the scampi came with the same salad and chips. The food was tasty, well cooked fresh. The downside was only one member of staff serving and the amount of noise which seemed to reverberate. I would recommend the food.

Visited The Hastings Hill at 4pm with a member of the family to have tea. The pub was relatively quiet and from past experience gets much busier from 5pm. The parking is usually easy with plenty of spaces. The staff as always were very pleasant and the food is very reasonably priced. As we were both having pasta and it was after 4pm we bought one pasta dish and received the 2nd free. Brilliant. I had the Pasta Bolognese and my mum had the Arribiata. Both came with penne pasta which was a good choice. As well as 2 pieces of garlic bread. The Bolognese appeared home made and both meals were more than adequate. For under £7 for 2. The menu is overall comprehensive and meets most tastebuds. This should become a regular haunt for anyone in travelling distance not only due to choice and cost but also the events they hold, the Indian Restaurant that is in the conservatory and also the welcome received. We will be regulars for a long time.

A friendly welcome with no hassle when we needed extra tables. A large menu choice, lots of food being served. Since you order at the bar we made a list of the food required. When menus were given out we were told that there was no mashed potato but if we chose chips, roasts or jacket we could could have everything else. A wide range of food was ordered. Due to no mash one friend couldn't have a cheese Pattie, because they're made fresh, this raised expectations that foods were made fresh & not just from the freezer. Considering the size of the order the food didn't take too long, all food was as expected/ordered & they checked we had everything, very good service. The only reason why I haven't given 5/5 is that the portions were TOO big! Unusual I know, but the amount of food wasted was madness. The food was delicious & very good quality but the plate size was massive. As an aside we got £30 worth of food vouchers for £15 online & could use 2 of these for our meal which saved us £30 on food. Bill, including the online vouchers was only £100 for us all!! This place is definitely worth a visit.

Tonight my husband and I went to Hastings Hill Public House, Sunderland, to have the Indian Buffet Menu (The New Delhi Restauran is located within Hastings Hill Public House). I understand there is an Indian Restaurant and Take Away Service within the premises. However, the buffet, which is available on Tuesday and Sunday evenings was set out within the public area. We thought the price of the buffet was reasonable and we had received good reports from friends who had visited. We paid the price of our 2 buffet meals whilst ordering and paying for drinks. In summary we were very disappointed with the meal. The food was not attractively presented and we felt the offer but we had to ask for 2 of the curries the curries to be refilled. We both found the presentation of the food and the flavours of the curries poor. There is one aspect of the evening we found particular unsatisfactory which I reported to a member of staff. One of the bar staff was standing on the public side of the buffet eating a poppadom. She actually dipped the poppadom into a tray of curry. We did not receive an apology and the tray was not replaced. We are both convinced this practice is against health and hygiene guidelines but we are not experts in the field. We were appalled that the member of staff was allowed to do this and at no pint did we observe washing of hands or change of dishes. We received no apology or explanation for this unacceptable behaviour. We will not return to the restaurant. We were very disappointed and think standards of presentation and hygiene practices should be critically reviewed urgently. Maria and Roger Barrell

This seem very popular choice. There was a choice of starters, mains, rice dishes, naan bread & poppadoms along with side salad and dips to pick from. Well worth the £7.50 each and will go again.

Food is lovely. The chips are the best and are homemade which is great as most places use frozen chips. Price isn't bad and you feel at home when you go. Staff are friendly and welcoming. Will definitely be returning

visited here a couple of times so lets talk about what it does right. The food is well priced plentiful and of a good standard. It is in a good location with parking at the rear. The staff are friendly and you are made to feel welcome. The place is a little worn and a refurbishment could improve the standard but in some ways I quite like the old familiar and its ironic no smoking signs when you have not been able to smoke in public places for some time. The drinks are expensive £3.56 for a pint of fosters, really!

Had lunch here while visiting family over Christmas, The Staff were very friendly and helpful our party ordered a variety of items and all were well cooked and great value I myself ordered the cowboy supper which was tasty and generous in its portion size. The atmosphere in the pub was warm and welcoming and the prices of both the food and drinks very reasonable. Would happily eat here again.

We were feeling lazy and thought we will just go local and have out tea out. Food was great, I had chicken in curry sauce topped with prawns. Large portion that would fill anyone. My partner had chicken in peppercorn sauce which he enjoyed. Great choice of cider at the bar and staff very helpful. Will definitely go back.

This is a great pub for nights and/or days out. They have a nice seating plan and cater for drinkers and/or food. I have used this pub quite a lot and the food is of a good quality and very reasonably priced and you get your monies worth. They have a great selection of drinks and it is a great place to go to watch sport and other attractions on the big screen.

Have visited this pub with family who live nearby whenever we come up to Sunderland......the food was as good this time as it has always been! I did think it was a longer wait than it should have been when we came to order our meals......only one lady taking orders at the bar and it was busy. Had a delicious meal....food was hot and tasty....will definitely be going back again!

I only went for the chillie burger and chips, but really enjoyed it. It's a shame to only give it four stars, because I didn't get anything culinarily challenging, but I will be back to try something else. Value for money? £4:95 on the special board. Don't think its possible to better it. This pub does food like standard English fare, and has an Indian takeaway and restaurant attached, not sure if they are franchised, and does functions. Really recommend calling in for a quick meal.

Does anyone know if the Riverview brasserie restaurant over at the Stadium of light in Sunderland is still open or not. Because me and my dad are about to go there for a Father's Day lunch out on the 18th June and every time me and my dad kept on phoning them it just ends up with nobody answering the phone. So could someone kindly send me a reply message back and let me know to see if the Riverview brasserie restaurant at the stadium of light in Sunderland to see if it's open or not.

I eat here often as i work locally. I find the choice of food to be varied and look forward to the welcoming smile of the Owners/Staff. I believe this is the best 'Sandwich Shop' in Sunderland and would highly recommend.

Food was good but overpriced. Most upsetting was the time it took for the kitchen to serve us. Waitress was helpful & pleasant but caught in the middle. Either systems poor or need more kitchen staff....waited nearly an hour. Shame because it's a nice place but bit overpriced.

I thought school dinners were bad, but this place tops it with being the worse place I have eaten in. We visited with family for Sunday lunch big mistake. We were sitting not far from the microwave which we heard pinging every few minutes then food was served, food must be plated up and reheated, the veg was practically raw, as for the roasties(potatoes) well these were rock hard u could do some serious damage with these. There is no restaurant or carvery that I have eaten in can do a roastie as good as home, a fresh cooked home roast is so much better and Cheaper I definitely won’t be going back.
