The Harvester in Wakefield

Not a great welcome when we arrived, just a surly bearded guy telling us that they’re fully booked and not happy when advised that we had a reservation!! It took 40 minutes for our server to come and introduce themselves but was chatty and efficient once they going. The food was ok but the new marinade on the chicken was a tad sweet. The salad bar was well stocked and tasty.

Nice family place to eat, good food. And amazing desserts. Our server lisa was very professional, friendly and helpful.

Such lovely service from Lisa who made us feel comfortable and welcome from start to finish. Food was delicious and arrived quickly especially as we were a big group.

Recently enjoyed a late lunch here at the Harvester - restful after lots of shopping. Busy when we arrived, but we were quickly found to a table and the overall service was excellent and very professional. Good menu choice to suit everyone and reasonable prices....

Not kean on 'Happy Snapper' Restaurants but this place since last visit some 5+ years ago, was well worth it. Booked at table for 19:30 and seated noting the place had had a refurb. Clean and bright. Staff approached for drinks and ordered food (3 course Xmas menu). Overall spent 2hrs with some cracking San Miguel, food and surroundings. Will def use again as very impressed.

We brought our family here to catch up.It was such an awful evening outside but so lovely and warm in the restaurant.The staff were really nice especially the waitress that served us.We all had different dishes they were ribs,mixed grill,steak,burger and two children's meals of chicken goggins,and fishfingers.We didnt have to wait long for our food and when it came out it was hot and really good every single dish,some had a dessert and they were just as good we had wine and beer and then coffee.Lovely evening with really good food,will definitely come back and will recommend.

Had the festive menu last night.

My kiddos absolutely love a harvester. I think it’s being able to grab your own salad or for them bread, croutons and raisins. And this one’s a decent one. Service good, food good and one I’d come back to.

Portion sizes definitely smaller nowadays and due to their policy of not allowing to go get your salad bowl until you have ordered means as soon as you get your salad bowl the main course arrives at the same time now, the salad deck was the best selling point for Harvester but sadly the changes they made recently have taken that edge away by rushing everything together now! some staff are good but too many are looking really fed up and miserable!

I would have given a higher rating but feel very strongly about the parking onsite. We had a lovely meal and the staff couldn't have been nicer however beware of the issue with parking. You have to register your vehicle on arrival otherwise you will get a nice surprise in the post of a parking fine! One of my friends didn't realise they had to do this and then got a parking fine, she fought thr case and didn't have to pay. My other friend wasn't so lucky, the parking company apparently sent a fine to her address (this never arrived) and was then persued by a debt collector. What a headache just over having a nice evening out for a meal. So take your chances with this place.

After a previous bad visit here some time ago, we decided to visit again and see if it had improved or end up wasting our money again. I have to admit - the visit was rather good. We was seated quickly and the FoH was spot on. Our server was a biggish gent but was polite and displayed good customer service. I ordered ‘The Cowboy’ chicken burger - Southern-fried chicken breast fillets with melted Monterey Jack cheese, back bacon and BBQ sauce and my partner ordered the ‘BBQ King’ burger which is a 6oz* beef burger topped with BBQ pulled pork, melted Monterey Jack cheese and burger sauce. We ordered a side of onion rings also. The food was nothing the complain at - was tasty and we really enjoyed it. On this visit we enjoyed the food, the staff were great and it was reasonably priced so good value for money for the portion size you got.

after nearly two hours we have just walked out. Apparently our food order ‘hadn’t gone through’. Never met a more incompetent bunch of idiots in my life. Front of house doesn’t know her arse from her face. Can’t comment on the food as we never got any.

Tried to order from the 3 course meal. No 10 oz sirloin left but offered an 8 oz rump for the same price (£4 cheaper on the main menu). Ordered a bottle of wine as part of the meal - not available but offered a different kind with the information ‘This is a more expensive wine’ Actually £4 cheaper on the menu. No need to lie, just say you have run out and that is the only alternative. Lots of the salad bar had run out. Meal was ok but not to the same quality as previous Harvester meals.

Haven’t been to a harvester in as long as I can remember so was a little skeptical about what to expect.

Good choice on the set lunch menu

This is an OK place for a fairly standard pub type menu. Will not cost too much but at an average price comes average choice from the menu. Salad bar is a nice touch where you help yourself.

Went for a late lunch, had to travel to this harvester as the one we were closest to has closed.

Came for food earlier in the week, service wasn’t as slick or as smooth as it had been, the place wasn’t too busy either, as a result, they missed out on a lot of drinks reorders. Food was very nice when it arrived.

Went for lunch with my daughter and two grandchildren . Told there was a 15 min wait and gave us a buzzer

The free salad bar is great. The first time my partner and I came was excellent! The food tasted great and the staff friendly. The second time we came we had a free starter voucher but weren’t allowed to use it with the 2 courses menu as the waitress said it couldn’t be put through together which didn’t make sense. We ended up ordering 3 courses but no free started. We waited a while for our starters and then about an hour after that for the mains! It tasted nice enough but we were past the point of being hungry by then. The desert we ordered took a while to come out too and the chocolate brownie was very sickly and wasn’t very warm. I hope the next time we come isn’t like this.

So we went in as a family of 3 couples early Sunday afternoon.

Went here for a family birthday meal. These occasions can be difficult because our extended family members have wide ranging tastes and are hard to please. Fortunately, everyone found several things on the menu that suited them.

My husband and myself had been to the nearby cinema and fancied a couple of drinks so we went here, we went into the bar area and after a quick look at the drinks order we went and stood at the bar. While we were stood at the bar for at least 5 minutes 3 members of staff either walked past us or made eye contact with us only to completely ignore us and walk away, it was obvious they were staff as they all have a tablet strapped to them. After being ignored by a young man,woman and an older man with a beard we decided to go elsewhere.

What a deal breakfast is here. This is a too regular favourite of ours on a Sunday morning.

Definitely for people with big appetites! The portion size was large; even before the salad bar was introduced. Nice ambience; not too noisy, but also area for families. The staff were all great and efficient. Not cheap pub grub though. I would have preferred smaller portions and smaller prices but overall a good meal and lots of choice for vegetarians and vegans

Our local harvester has closed down last visit few years ago. Decided on this one and was quite a distance from us. We waoted at desk a few minutes before we got seated.we had main menu and lunch menu offer. On main menu alot of choices but most meals over £10 or more. We decided on lunch menu 3 for £10.99. We shared breaded mushroom and baked potato skins. Both nice starters. We went to salad bar with a selection on salads, dressings and bread rolls. Also mixture of sauces for meals. We had salad and got our food scampi dinner and burger. Both food nice. I decided on not eating bun with burger my choice, me cutting carbs. Chips served in metal cups.abit different. Both meals ok.average food.my friend like scampi dinner. We decided on puds friend got chocolate sundae and i chose lemon cake and custard. Sundae looked nice. Mine was ok but did not like smell and flavour of compot on top of lemon cake so took it off and just enjoyed lemon sponge and little metal cup custard. Minus compot was nice pudding. We used toilets signed well and seeing nicely laid out eating area. Generally seem nice staff and service.but abit pricey and long way from us.we found Joanne who served us very proffesional and helpfu. Will visit in future

Haven't been here for ages due to appalling service previously.

We ordered two burgers which were quite good but nothing too special, a couple of mistakes but they were easily sorted. We were seated and served by Morgan who was lovely, very friendly and welcoming. Dessert was delicious as always.

Had lunch with an old friend ! Both meals were lovely. Was given plenty of time to browse the menu, coffee was refillable which was good as we was both driving. Salad bar was really nice at no extra cost. The waitress came to the table and took the order and brought the bill so none of this getting up and down going to the bar to order which made a welcome change. Really big restaurant which was packed but service was still good. I would go again

This was the first time I’d been even though I’m local to the area!

Decided to eat here as a last minute thing. Staff welcoming and friendly but that’s the only plus point! Had a voucher for “kids eat for £1” only applies to the 7 and under menu! Can not order from the whole of the kids menu. Very misleading. Places our order, daughter wanted mac and cheese, didn’t have any. Husband wanted a chicken dish, didn’t have any! Only had ready marinated chicken options. Placed order and went to salad bar. Old food, dirty bowls, no butter, no croutons and sauces spilled all over. Needed a deep clean and refill. My burger was very fatty and bread till dry. Son enjoyed his Yorkshire pudding and sausage. Did not enjoy my food at all, coleslaw was warm and nothing was particularly hot. Usually eat here once a month or more but put off after today. Only positive was the staff. All staff we spoke to were helpful and friendly, Shane food let the place down do badly.

Came tonight for something quick and easy. Partner had the frenchie burger. Chips stone cold sent back . I had the chicken triple. It was ok. The salad bar was the worst I have ever seen!! Nothing was fresh, looked like it had been out all day. It was a disgrace. nothing had been replenished. Waitress was ok but no apology. Seriously needs a massive improvement here

Took ages to seat us and not busy. Rude blonde girl waitress saying she’s too busy to get me what I asked for in very loud voice Breakfast cold. No spoons no butter. Everything too much trouble. Dirty tables uncleared. Won’t go back. Told member of staff but nothing will be done

What a nightmare this place was. We want a table and the place looked like it had been at a child’s birthday party. The tables still have plates on them from the previous people eating there and the place just look terrible. We must have counted 15 or tables like this and when we was told a 45 minutes wait we just turned round and left as no one else was in front of us ?? No wonder this place and chain has gone down hill. We will not return

Absolutely awful. Over cooked food. The potatoes were grey and tasted disgusting. The waitress offered us a free dessert which we declined. Won’t ever be going back.

Just fancied some ribs and chicken, has a 40% voucher for Harvesters so decided to give it a go! Salad bar was limited and could of used a clean up. Main course was ok, the ribs and chicken lacked in flavour. If I didn't have the vouchers I wouldn't of been happy paying full price.

2 had rump steak 1 had gammon and I had chicken wrap.Every one of us enjoyed our meal.Hot and steak done to perfection.Staff were really nice.Been to Harvesters around the country and we have enjoyed every meal we have had.

We arrived for breakfast and was sat just outside the kitchen, a big mistake. I feel for restaurants that have kitchens that are open so everyone can see inside as this then shows the negatives or positives in full view.

Went for lunch with my two children and the staffs great and so was everything but my chicken wrap. The chicken i believe was packet chicken strips like what you would get from asda that you defrost and cooks. Rubbery and slimy. BUT my sons tapas3 dish choices and my daughters fish finger meal was really really nice. Think i just made a bad choice. Thank god for the unlimited salad bar!

Written with great sadness as this is one of our favourite places to eat out.

We have had breakfast here twice recently. The service is good and the staff are friendly but on both occasions the breakfast was not as hot as it should have been. We mentioned it to the waitress who said she would tell the cooks. They will lose custom if this issue is not addressed.

Called in 3rd. October for late lunch. Had very nice fillet steak just after 2pm and got 33% off. I like the idea of the salad bar. Can definitely recommend.

I came in yesterday at lunchtime with my mum and fiancée. I would like to mention how amazing our server Jean was. She is bubbly and lovely. She never made us feel rushed and was there for us to ask any questions! Jean definitely made our experience a better one. You are so lucky to have Jean as part of your team, she is a bundle of energy!

We had time to spare before going to the cinema so called here for a snack and a drink. A good variety of food on the menu, very reasonable prices. Waitress service which saved queuing at the bar. Served very quickly and the staff very pleasant. Lovely food and nice clean, pleasant surroundings. Definitely recommend a meal here.

We visited three times during our stay in Castleford. The customer service was fantastic, the staff are very friendly and very helpful- nothing is too much trouble. The food was served promptly and hot and very tasty. The best Harvester we have visited.

Having enjoyed shopping at junction 32 we got a table at the Harvester straight away. The waitress Michelle was friendly and efficient and we were quickly served with wine and our order taken. The food came quickly and we were asked twice if the food was ok. Very attentive staff and the food was excellent. The salad bar was perfect with everything topped up and clean. We were very happy with the meal and the price. We will be back again.

My friend and I go to Harvester every so often for just a quick bite to eat. When I arrived we were treated by a friendly lady with long brunette hair who quickly seated us and made us feel welcomed. We weren’t rushed at all and felt we had ample time to order.

We went for breakfast here on Friday 6th July. From walking through the door every member of staff was friendly, polite and helpful. The breakfast was very reasonably priced and included unlimited trips to the continental breakfast bar. The breakfast itself was freshly cooked and delicious. Special thanks to Lisa and Jamie for making us feel so welcome.

Partner works nights on a rolling contract so we only get a wkend together every 6 weeks. We went to Winding Wheel harvester at Glasshoughton for a meal & the steak that I ordered was fabulous. It was cooked to perfection, so easy to cut, tasted delicious. Best steak I have ever had. Well done.

We usually go to the harvester at Colton for breakfast which is always excellent. We have been twice now to this one and the cooked breakfast is sadly lacking in care and presentation. I requested my bacon to be crispy, which it was to the point of being burnt black along with my sausages and over cooked fried eggs. I was very disappointed. We did complain and had a little knocked off the bill. I hope the quality of cooking improves before we attend there again. The staff were lovely.

We as a family had nipped in for our dinner from been in j32. The decor both in and out were up to date and staff were friendly. The food itself was cooked nicely, however the portions were small for what price we had paid.

It was cheap and fast and we were all full. The salad and sauce bars were not very well maintained but the waitress was very nice and helpful.

Just passing by around lunchtime, so thought we'd call in for a Sunday lunch. We did feel that some of the prices were expensive for a 'chain pub', and were disappointed that there was no Sunday lunch on the menu. However, we decided to stay and eat, and were not disappointed with the quality of the food nor the service received.

Called in for breakfast last week for the first time. The food was good and enjoyable made even better by the fantastic and friendly staff! I prefer to drink soya milk rather than cows milk. Unfortunately, the soya curdled when poured into my tea, however, the staff went above and beyond to sort it out and brought over a freshly brewed tea once they had. Highly recommended and would return again.

An unexpected day at Junction 32 Shopping Centre prompted us to lunch at the Harvester. We could not have chosen better. Freshly grilĺed steak with trimmings and my wife had a succulent chicken meal. Soft and fresh fruit juice drinks fro a friendly waiter. We will be here again.

Firstly, the service was excellent do this is no critisism to the waiting staff who were efficient and pleasant.

We visited harvester in Castleford and was happily suprised with warm greeting fabulous service especially Chloe who could not do enough for us the food was great tasty and did not wait for long. The bar staff was helpfull and attentive. Well done to all.

Went to harvester yesterday first visit ever spur of the moment thing could not fault a thing and as for the lovley waitress liza what a great lady she was ever so helpful and friendly

We made a reservation in advance as there was quite a few people attending.

Absolutely appaling customer service and food. I ordered a medium rare steak and waited quite a while for it to arrive. Once it had arrived it came very well done. The waiter came past and asked if everything was okay with the meal. I mentioned I ordered a medium rare steak but it was very well done. The waiter laughed and said, "oh sorry about that" and then awkwardly walked off! What person does that!? And more to the point, who laughs at a medium rare steak? Steak is supposed to be cooked medium rare, not like a burnt, crisp, boot leather! The food is below average, it isn't even that cheap and there are much better places to eat in Castleford. I will never ever return to a Harvester again.

We have been going here for quite some time as we live only a few minutes walk away. Tonight, my wife and I went with my son and his girlfriend for an evening meal. To keep this brief, they offer a free salad with every meal or buy a salad if not a main meal. We had 3 main meals and 3 salads with drinks, i had only a starter and a side and drink (actually the same cost as a mian) as i wasnt starving having eaten at the firework display we had just visited. My wife didnt want her salad, so i had a couple of slices of cucumber and a fork full of pasta from it. When we got the bill i noticed i had been charged an extra £4 for a salad. When questioning this i was told that this was because i only had a starter, irrelevant of the fact that we had 3 mains and 3 salads and no more. Basically, charging me £4 for 2 pieces of cucumber and 6 pieces of pasta. It isnt a lot of money but i am a person of principal, there were no rules on the menu about who could eat the salad that came with my wife's main (again we had 3 mains therefore, included 3 salads whoever ate them). The manager refused to remove the £4 from a +£60 bill, even after explaining the scenario and the fact we came here more or less, once a month or more. It seemed a little petty and certainly, not backed up on the menu anywhere. It is a shame, the food is 'ok' and previously, the service reasonable.. I shop with my feet and wont go here again even if only out of principal. This could have been resolved so easily.

Popped in after visting nearby garage, staff friendly and keen to help, steak and eggs was lovely and a nice alternative to gammon and egg. Salad bar was nice to use too. All in all a nice place to eat and drink.

Arrived for breakfast and it was delicious and plenty of choice. They were quite busy but got served quickly, plenty of choice for breakfast. Will go again.

Met family here on the way home from hols, after a very long drive. Staff were brilliant, gave us a quiet table and couldn't have been more helpful.

Went here after shopping at j32. The food was perfect. The service was swift and friendly and attentive. All in all glad we went and better than alot of places that we have been recently.

Arrived at 10am for breakfast on a Wednesday, it wasn't busy just a few customers in, we got greeted at the door as soon as we walked in and taken to the table. We got asked if we had been here before for breakfast which we hadn't so they explained how it all worked. We had a friendly attentive waitress who served us, didn't catch her name but it was her first day back from maternity leave. Lovely fresh cooked unlimited breakfast made to order, and a big selection of continental food as well that you help yourself too. Its lovely layout and a nice atmosphere inside. 10 times better than a toby carvery breakfast. Will be coming to the harvester for breakfast again.

Called in one Tuesday lunch time. It was quite busy as there are some Early Bird specials available at this time. We decided to have a chicken and rib combo, from the main menu.This was an excellent choice, the food was really tasty and we really enjoyed our meal.The unlimited salad was also really nice and there are some welcome additions since I last dined here, including pasta, couscous and olives.

We had nice dinner with friends. We bought some vouchers from Groupon. It costs us £20 - main meal and two drinks for two. We booked table online. As soon we came over waiter took us to our ready table. We was happy that everything was prepared for us. Waitress explain what we could have with our voucher. Salads was very fresh, bread freshly cooked. We ordered bbq ribs and chicken with bacon. Food came very quickly. Couldn't complain about food at all. This was our first experience with Harvester. If its good weather you can stay outside for a meal. Also there is nice place with blankets. As we could see place is newly refurbished. Good location. Parking available.

called in for a couple of drinks and to meet up with friends 6;30 pm saturday ordered 2 pints of beer sorry came the reply no draught beer, what about the handpulled beer sorry no,what beer have you got, only this one came reply you mean lager, whats the difference she said.pressing on 2 gins with slimline tonic,out came 2 large tumbler glasses i think from the kids pop shelf have you no more suitable glasses i say. what! was the reply,can we have ice at least. no we ran out but if you go to the other side there might be some.was anybody in charge i wondered i doubt it 2 mins later left never to retun

After a previous visit approximately a month ago which was a huge disappointment with poor service, portion size etc where the assistant manager contacted me to apologise,I can now leave a newer review of the Harvester (The WindingWheel) Castleford and now can very happily report that this visit was excellent at every stage with prompt drinks service and friendly serving staff (especially 'Verity' who was fantastic!) the service times were really good combine this with improved appearance of food, food quality and better portion sizes, this was a completely different and vastly improved dining experience and one which if they maintain I would recommend to everyone to try as the value for money now merits its 5* rating

Visited with family on Saturday 4th March 2017. Much improved since previous visits, menu was good value and varied and service, particularly from Callum, was first class. Will definitely go again.

Nice friendly welcome from the ladies behind the bar, all downhill after that. There were 10 of us and we had to order all our food and drinks at the bar, no table service. After we did the first bit a waitress arrived and threw a handful of knives and forks in the centre of the table along with an assortment of ketchup and other sauce pots. The force was such they scattered all over the table. We found all this funny until the food arrived. It was dreadful, cold, over cooked bland etc etc I could go on but this will last to long. Good luck if you go.

It was or right but when we got our food 🥘 it was clap cold other than that it was fine although I did feel a bit sick 😷 after 🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢

You only got one star as I am unable to give you zero! We ordered 5 steaks, 2 medium and 3 cooked all the way through (I did specify that they shouldn't be cremated). The gentleman that took the order asked if we would like any sauces. I asked if they had Diane and after checking his screen, he said they did. So I ordered 5 portions. We had to wait half an hour for it to arrive and wish we hadn't bothered in the first place. What may have started out as an 8oz steak was presented as a black lump of charcoal with every bit of moisture burnt out of it! I sent it back and was told that they would replace it with a medium to well done one. The Diane sauce arrived as Hollandaise and when I questioned it I was told that they didn't do Diane sauce. I told her that we would do without as my girls don't like it!! I had paid for 5 but they were only going to refund 3 even though there were 5 pots on the counter! The salad bar was a joke! Half the bowls were dirty, there were only brown rolls that were so hard they were inedible (but would have made effective ammunition for a catapult!), and what was labelled up as sweetcorn tasted suspiciously of pineapple!!! I am sure there are regulations about labelling food correctly!!! I had to speak to members of staff 4 times in the next 55 minutes to get my replacement meal. Twice I was told the manager was coming to see me, but after an hour and a half wait she didn't show her face. To be honest I don't think she had any intention as she walked passed us loads of times. The replacement wasn't much better than the original. There was an overwhelming bunt taste to it that couldn't drowned out even with ketchup (something I have never put on a steak EVER!!) I had very little choice as the meal consisted of burnt steak, a few scraggy chips, a piece of tepid pepper and some watercress!!! The photo shows the fryer debris that was all over the chips!!!! I don't think they have cleaned it out for a while!!!!Don't waste your time and money eating here. The management and food are a disgrace. You get better service and food at McDonalds!!!

Well within "pram pushing" distance of the Premier Inn. The first night we chose from the Christmas menu. Fantastic. Holly served us - lovely young lady.

Went on Saturday 26 Nov. after buying a new car ,we got into the harvester about 1215 and thought we would not get in .Just had to wait 2 mins to be sat down at a table with the menus .A few seconds later a waiter come over to take the drinks order ,fast service or what .Then another waiter came over for our order told us to help ourselves to the salad bay did not have to ask me twice .It only took 10 mins to get mains which was chicken stack.,it was so tasty with the bbq sauce and cheese chips and salad will be going back again because of value and also it`s next to Junction 32 outlet

Visited here twice now and will definitely be calling back again. The rump steak is delicious and the sweet potato fries are to die for! The staff are friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Will be back again soon no doubt ⭐️

Went last Monday with my family for tea. I have been to the harvester at the White rose before and have not been Impressed so I didn't have high hopes. However we had a lovely meal great service and the salad bar was well stocked. I'll be back.

Had a really lovely family meal here tonight!! All our meals were delicious! The ribs and rib eye steak especially so!!! Chris the manager served us!!! Lovely guy!! Excellent service!!! Highly recommend and we will definitely be back!!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Visited today after a shopping with the family (hubby, 3year old and 6month old). After been seated we had to wait some time before our order was taken and then after 10-15 minutes after order was taken they came back to tell us something wasn't available so had to chose something else.

Called in here after day out at emmerdale studio and shopping at junction32, not visited a harvester before and was impressed, waiter service good, liked the refillable drinks and salad bar that we could help ourselves to.paid just over £21 for coffee, coke, refillable and two fish chIps and mushy peas, my husband tho didn't like the frozen chips...will be using harvester again't.

Two adults and a little one, meals where all nice enough taste wise and staff friendly but the meals were small, we all left hungry and in the nicest terms we are a normal healthy sized family! Total meal price was 35 quid, just under 8 quid of this was on three soft drinks (refillable), then a kids meal, mixed grill and chicken dish - for that price i expected more, you could go many more quality places for a similar price for a small family - wouldn't go again just because of this.

Never tried a Harvester before so decided to give this place a go. Extremely disappointed with our experience here and shall never be returning!!
