For anybody following a Gluten Free diet then I wouldn’t bother trying here. It’s suppose to be “Gluten Free Tuesdays” so you turn up at 18:10 to be told they turn the fryer off at 6pm!! What a joke for a restaurant/takeaway advertising Gluten Free Tuesdays.

Only had a take away fish but it was absolutely delish 😋

Excellent service. Me and my son went three times and on each occasion we were given the highest standard of service. The staff are really kind and met all our needs. The food is excellent and cooked to perfection. Would definitely recommend and will be going back again. Thank you. 10 out of 10.

Wanted to order gluten free as I am coeliac. I was aware they only did it on a Tuesday however it doesn't say anywhere that it is only until 6 o'clock. I think it's wrong that we people who can't have gluten should be discriminated against as to not be able to have fish and chips any day they please and then on top of that not be able to have it as late as people who are not coeliac. I hope this changes to every day or even just to as late as when you shut. As of now you have lost a local customer.

Really enjoy the heathly choice we always get the same good portion for the price we pay I go at least once a month either by myself or with family and friends

The best fish shop in the town. Friendly staff, beautiful traditional service. Happy to found this. Thank you ladies, my mother in law so glad and enjoyed every bites and minutes in our visit.

Best fish and chips I’ve had in a long time. All served hot and freshly cooked, lovely crispy batter on the fish and chips great and not greasy. Will definitely be going back.

Worst fish & chips I've had. Small fish that absolutely stank vile. I don't know what the fish was but it tasted cheap and nasty. The chips weren't much better, they had a dodgy smell. Waste of £20 for 2 lots of fish & chips. Ended up up in the bin.

£9.60 for supposedly large fish and chips, with curry sauce. The fish was the size of a stickleback, tasteless, cheap cod alternative and the curry sauce was repulsive.

Brilliant fish and chips and great sized portions!!! The shop is also a supporter of the Help For Heroes charity to provide help and support to injured veterans and their families.

Fish cake had quite a few bones in, usually pretty good from here so hopefully just a one off

Very nice fish and chips, probably the best in Pontefract. The only downside is the portions are very small compared to all other fish and chip shops.

Always preorder then by the time we get there it's ready, really nice fish N chips, always use knights now don't go anywhere else

I have been here twice now & each visit the food has been outstanding & can’t fault anything. Excellent valve for money & the staff are so very helpful, nothing was to much trouble.

Every time we revisit my home town, our priorities are knights and Bluebell(Went ridge) Knights has to be the best fish n chips in Yorkshire, including Wetherby Whaler and Murgatroyds, because of the super friendly staff and value for money. Always eat in with perfect Yorkshire tea, bread n butter and of course a huge bowl of mushy peas, all for a Tenner. We recommend Knights to any visitors to Pontefract. Please note last orders in restaurant at 5.30pm, take out closes at 7.30pm.

Visiting the town and ate in the cafe....food was nice however, we ordered the pie with a dollop which was on the menu. When charged more at the till I was told we were given more chips so charged more? So basically got more than we ordered. What got me was not once was there an apology for getting order wrong! Very poor customer service...

Well it was certainly worth the trip from Germany to my home town of Pontefract and to experience (yet again) the amazing warm hospitality and top service of the staff. The fish is cooked to perfection with batter that was even better than my Grandma used to make. Although we were alone in the restaurant we were continually attended to by extremely friendly staff. I can recommend Knights of Pontefract and we will certainly be back. The BEST.

Best Fish'n'Chip restaurant in Pontefract!

Went for gluten free fish and chips on Tuesday ( sadly it's the only day they do them). I had to wait a bit longer because they had to warm the fryer up, but it was worth it. Thin and crispy batter and excellent chips. Must remember to call ahead next time so the fat is hot.

Eat in. Cracking fish & chips ! Slightly disappointing to be told they didn’t have any haddock but the cod was amazing, chips were good, and the curry sauce was the best I’ve tasted in a chippy ! Not at all greasy. The whole restaurant looked spotlessly clean and the young man who served us was a credit to the establishment.

For the second week in a row they got my order wrong I phoned and there response I don't no what you want me to do. Just short of £10 for my order Repeat business is important if they carry on like this were all off to gillygate chippy

I love that fish and chip restaurant and the people are fantastic in there and very friendly and there’s no fish and chips for miles that can even touch the taste of the food that they do I haven’t been in since before COVID but will be going in for my favourite tasting this week soon.

Small cafe in the rear of shop, no booking just turn up and see if a table is free.

Sadly this place has gone down hill since I gave it a 5 star review approx 3 years ago. We have not been for a long time but called in the last two Fridays at tea time & we were very disappointed. After the first Friday we gave it the benefit of the doubt & called in again. Both times the fish it’s self was lovely but the batter on one side was saturated & oozing with grease. The chips were undercooked & soggy & greasy. They were “just warm” & the peas were not even “warm”. We discarded the batter & chips & just ate the fish & peas.

I treat myself there regularly. It is the best in Pontefract In my opinion. Crisp batter on fish which is cooked while you wait. So hot and tasty with no soggy chips. Highly recommended.

We placed an order through Just-Eat but there were mistakes, a quick phone call and everything was sorted and piping-hot replacements were at my front door within minutes. Can't fault their customer service and friendliness. Food was fantastic too.

Since it changed hand last summer it has gone down hill. Staff no where near as good as staff employed by previous owner. Shame as this was our favourite.

Absolute extortionate an not great even for price

It's not the cheapest chippie in Pontefract, but it's one of the best! The portions are huge so you can save money by sharing. We always eat out, but the cafe inside looks nice. Batter is light and crispy and the fish always tastes fresh with the info on the catch being displayed on the counter. The chips are just perfect with that traditional taste. Be warned though, everything tastes so good because its cooked in beef fat. This isn't an issue for me, but may be if your are a veggie or pescatarian.

We were a little disappointed this time round. Ordered the gluten free large haddock with mushy peas and small but generous size portion of chips. The fish was not a good as usual it wasn't white fresh or flaky. It was dry. Shame as never had any previous complaints.

When I first went into this chippy I thought It was the best around, but it seems It's very much dependant on the staff you get on the day you visit. Most times I go in and the staff are polite and the food is nice with good portions although expensive. Other times you get a complete different set of staff that seemingly dont care about the quality of the food, they are also quite rude and trying to overcharge customers. If it was the same level of quality and customer service all the time with the same nice staff, who I believe were the owners then this review would be 5 Stars!

The restaurant is clean and tidy and the staff are friendly and helpful Doing the meal they came once to check that everything was alright with the meal and then left us to eat in peace There was no distracting background music and everything was of a high standard Highly recommended

We found this shop by complete accident whilst on a trip to Yorkshire from Wiltshire last month. Excellent food and service. Jenny & Steve are a credit to the industry. Loved it so much that we will visit again in July. Thoroughly recommended.
