The Harnser in North Norfolk

Dogs allowed on the patio/garden where food still served. This suited us find in the summer. Staff really friendly and food really tasty. Portion were also a good size.

We recently stayed at the Harnser Bed and Breakfast for three nights and had a wonderful experience. Our room was spacious, immaculately clean, and featured a very comfortable bed. The shower was generously sized, and the staff were exceptionally kind and cheerful. They were especially accommodating of my disability, offering me extra time and support as needed, which was greatly appreciated. The landlady was very welcoming, polite, and truly made us feel at home. She was incredibly accommodating. We also enjoyed a family meal there one evening. The food was excellent, and the staff were very pleasant. A special thank you to Chloe for her attentiveness and cheerful demeanor. We look forward to returning! ---

Staff were really lovely and served us quickly and with a friendly smile. We visited on a Sunday dinner time and didn't realise it was a reduced menu at this time which limited our options. I had a chicken fillet burger which I enjoyed but the chips weren't nice. Really really greasy and very thick cut. My husband had the roast dinner and said it was 'ok'.

We visited while on holiday. We had a lovely meal. Good varied menu. My daughter is Ceoliac and while they didn’t have a huge choice that was G.F they were very helpful. Would recommend a visit if looking for a nice pub meal.

We came across this place when looking for a pub lunch during our camping trip and we were not disappointed. The lady serving us was lovely and very welcoming and the food was amazing! Kids menu was perfect and the choices for adults were varied and delicious! Best pub food we’ve had in a while and would definitely return again if in the area.

Poor meal. "Crispy pork belly" was largely inedible, such a dried up crust that I couldn't get a knife into it. Came with a hard undercooked parsnip which had been battered, broccoli and a very thick gravy. Waitress who cleared asked if everything was all right, and I said no, not really. She agreed that the pork was very hard (clearly this wasn't the first complaint) but there was no apology or bill reduction. I might have been unlucky I suppose but it was my first visit and I won't be back.

I’ve visited this little pub 3 times now and each time service has been excellent, food has been superb and just overall a little gem. There’s a huge choice of dishes, especially across the tapas option, would definitely recommend!

What an amazing little pub! Came here for lunch and had the ‘dirty pig burger’. Definitely one of the best burgers I have ever eaten. Came with great sides and plenty of food. The beer was great and service was second to none. All the staff are super friendly and make you feel so welcome. Can’t recommend highly enough.

Fantastic location for walking the last stretch of the North Norfolk Coastal Footpath. Buses from door to Sea Palling and back from Great Yarmouth (weekdays). Fabulous bed, dinner and breakfasts to last you all day. Joss let me leave my car in car park for a few nights while I did all this and looked after me so well. Enjoyed every meal, delicious ribs, chicken, burgers and fry up!

I hate writing bad reviews but sadly I can't just write good ones. It is a beautiful little pub with a nice beer garden, clean toilets, cold drinks and a car park.... I love a good rib or several ribs in fact so I elected for the chicken and rib combo. The rib was fine... meat was soft and dripping in BBQ sauce. Unfortunately the good times end here. The corn on the cob had been boiled/steamed/microwaved for far too long (couldn't even tell how it was made). The main issue was the chicken though (SEE PHOTO). I've seen this dish before on someone else's plate... moist... with fresh flowing hot sauce oozing down and around it... not like the one I was given: It was drier than it looks, it was so hard and so dry it was a little embarrassing, almost comical. ALMOST... (it cost £20). £20 for a dish that looks like it was cooked by a 10 year old in a primary school cooking class. And it wasn't just my dish. My fellow diners had similar comments... dry chicken burger, tough beef etc. I'm not sure if they are struggling for chefs or the oven was broken that day but something isn't right and at these prices I expect a lot more...

Little cafe in Cley with good selection of refreshments and snacks. Friendly and efficient service team. We were a little disappointed with the quality of hot chocolate (tasted like Cadbury’s powder) and the marshmallow was one large rather than smaller to fit the mug. The brownie was defrosted and lacked rich flavour.

We’ve been visiting The Harnser for at least fifteen years and have always enjoyed ourselves there. The Friday fish and chip nights have been thoroughly enjoyable until our most recent visit. The pub was unusually quiet and the restaurant area was empty so we were told we could sit where we liked. Our order for two large cod and chips was taken at the bar when it used to be waitress service. The restaurant area was very cold with a portable calor gas heater in the doorway. Our food arrived worryingly quickly and the cod batter looked dry and brown rather than golden. We decided to give it a try. As we thought, the batter was inedible but the fish inside was okay (well mine was but my husband’s was full of bones which he found very unpleasant). We both left a pile of uneaten batter and chips on our plates. Nobody asked if everything was okay so we waited until the young waitress cleared our plates to express our disappointment. She just smiled and said, “oh, sorry about that” and whisked our plates away. An older woman arrived with our bill but with no acknowledgment, apology or reduction to the bill. We just paid up and left but after a long enjoyable relationship with The Harnser, we believe that will have been our final visit. The heart and soul has disappeared from the place and they’re not taking a pride in what they offer their customers, which is a great shame.

We started going there for lunch about 3 yrs ago ..And sunday luch and they do a lovely xmas menue ...We are regulars now..The food very good price and all home cooked with fresh ingredients.Joss who is the owner makes us welcome.Plus Bev the waitress who has a lovely character and always makes us smile . Food was amazing!! And the staff are very friendly, will definitely go again. I felt welcome and comfortable, and if by any means anyone needs to travel down and have somewhere to stay. They have some b&b’s available too!!

What great value for lunch time if your fed up with the old sandwiches get round here, very friendly service the picture says it all beautiful

We each had the fish shop platter and we both thought it was truly excellent! We were so glad that we resisted the temptation to have a starter because the portions were very generous indeed. It was a lovely experience and on the basis of the fish shop platter we would strongly recommend the Harnser!

We had visited this pub last year on our annual trip to Norfolk. We decided to visit again on 24/8 and we were again not disappointed. We all had the tapas and my son has the children fish and chips. I love that this place brings the child's food as soon as it's ready. This is a touch with a hungry child. The tapas we all had was amazing,.again the size of these meals is amazing and the food is top quality. Just wish we lived locally. Can't wait till next year to come back again. Prior to tonight we have been here once before (pre covid) and really enjoyed the food. Decided to go back and it didn't disappoint again - the food was amazing. Served quickly, was hot, massive portions and very friendly staff. We were amazed at how quiet it was for the summer holidays, more people need to use this pub. We will definitely be back 👍🏻

I've eaten here three times in the past couple of months and so I'm starting to consider myself properly qualified to leave a review. On each occasion we've eaten off the tapas menu (an absolute bargain at three choices for £22, including chips or salad) and I've tried quite a few of the options, none of which have been in any way disappointing. The portions are reassuringly generous (I tend to avoid tapas as a rule because I'm usually left hungry, or feeling like I've paid a lot for not very much - not in this case!). Our most recent visit was for a family meal, five of us, and everything we ate was just gorgeous. My particular favourites are the pork belly with apple sauce and the stilton mushrooms. The pub itself is quirky and nicely decorated (someone is clearly a very talented artist), but the best bit of all, for me, is the very lovely young staff who are enthusiastic, engaged and helpful. Top marks to them. I am a big fan of The Harnser - it's my new favourite place and I will keep returning.

As a regular here so disappointed, waited ages for our meal, over 40 mins( it wasn't busy). Young man serving kept running his hands through his hair, onion rings, raw, peas cold, asked for chips got mash,no one asked how our meal was. Old food under the table. SORRY HARNSER, WE WON'T BE RETURNING.

Nice pub inside and out. We went here on Tuesday lunchtime as we are visiting the area and liked the look of the menu. We chose; a halloumi burger £16 and a £20 chicken and rib meal. The staff had brought our attention to the specials menu but we had decided before what we fancied. However, once we had ordered, I realised that actually the specials were not only great value but looked like tasty meal options. Many of the diners were choosing one of the 3 specials on offer (cottage pie, fish and chips or Chicken curry) they were only £8 and came with extra sides of vegetables (plus roast potatoes) or salad. The meals we had were great and should have been 5 stars because the burger was great and the chicken and Rib was clearly prepared in-house, really meaty and tasty - unfortunately, the chips were over cooked and luke warm and the corn on the cob was watery and stone cold. We would certainly return and I would choose one of the specials next time

Superb Sunday lunch, served nice and hot and plenty of it. Lovely pub, nice outdoor seating too. Will return.

Excellent Sunday roast - plenty of meat and lots of veg including red cabbage, carrots, peas with roast parsnips and potatoes. good beer and friendly service. Loved it!

We went with family visiting us here in Norfolk. Lovely restaurant, friendly staff. Our meals were great and plentiful. However, I would suggest the gimmick of serving fish and chips on paper, on the plate, is not necessary. The paper went a bit soggy and spoilt the excellent food. Thanks to all the staff, especially the Chef, we will be back.

What a delightful experience,staff so friendly and welcoming. Very efficient too. The food was excellent. Cooked to perfection and large portions. Breakfast was something else. Full English could of fed two people. A very good choice for dinner and breakfast. Vegetarian choices too. The rooms were lovely. Spotless and everything you could need including iron and board. Hairdryer and even a small alarm clock as well as a lovely selection of tea/ coffee etc. very comfortable beds. The decor was amazing a very pleasurable stay and if the occasion arose would not hesitate to stay again. Thank you

Enjoyed a fabulous roast at The Harnser. Phoned ahead to see if they could cater for Coeliacs too and we were told yes!! GF Yorkshire pud and gravy and even a syrup sponge pudding! Staff were welcoming and polite. Good portion sizes and well priced. Add a pudding for an extra £2! Thank you for catering for our dietary needs, we'll be back! 😊

We had booked a twin room. The accommodation is separate to the pub and is located at the side of the garden and car park in converted buildings, maybe stables or other outhouses. There are three separate rooms, a twin, a double, and a family...

We booked this place whilst looking for somewhere to eat whilst boating on the broads. We wanted something more than just pie and chips and the menu was extensive and had some really interesting options eg: Lamb and feta flatbreads, Duck Bao Buns, Butternut Squash tagine.We had a group of 6, two of which chose the tapas and the others from the normal menu. Everyone was so pleased with each of their meals, there was nothing to fault. We all agreed the Halloumi was the best we'd ever tasted and the portions for everything were generous.Everything was cooked extremely well with great attention to detail to flavour and quality. We were all really impressed.We stayed for drinks after in the bar which was lovely and cosy, with just the right amount of people coming and going. It was a great atmosphere and we had a great time with a short 10 min walk back to Sutton Staithe.

Absolutely 10 out of 10. Wonderful staff who went the extra mile to accommodate a family member with mobility difficulties. Food was delicious and fresh on both occasions we visited. Love the fairy lights around the bar and the seating area to the back. Background music was great, some 50,s n 60,s. Well done to a great chef who is the grandson of the landlady and well done for all your hard work as you never faltered to be attentive despite being incredibly busy.

Stayed Monday to Thursday loved our rooms the staff are beyond amazing the land lady must be proud of her staff and herself made us feel so welcome and like friends brilliant with my daughter who’s 16 months old always had her chair out ready for us and we can not fault anything the food was delicious and everytime the lady cleaned the rooms she would move my daughters teddy melted my heart definitely come back again to stay thank you so much for our experience

Lovely place for a drink on an evening, fantastic host in a lovely garden setting with beautiful flowers and a good selection of beers and wine

This was our first visit to this pub restaurant and it certainly won’t be our last. This was recommended on a local Facebook page so we thought we would give it a try, the food is marvellous I have to say. I had a chicken and rib combo which was cooked to perfection with a huge meaty pork rib with no fat or bone whatsoever, and the chicken was tender and delicious. A very good plateful too I must add, my wife went for the Tapas selection which she said was lovely and certainly plenty of it in fact she couldn’t quite finish it. The place itself is lovely, old, quaint pub which is very well kept and so cosy and they played 60’s music which was a big plus for us too. I would highly recommend this place to locals as we are, and if you are holidaying in the area, you certainly won’t be dissatisfied , just make sure you are hungry before you go.

Stayed here two nights. All staff friendly and welcoming. Nothing too much trouble. Food was first class better than we have had in top London restaurants. Lovely family feel. Close to beaches and Great Yarmouth. Some of the cleanest coast line there is. Would highly recommend it. Thank you to all staff at the Harnser for a dab short break. X x

We stayed at The Harnser in May and ate both nights in the put. The food was delicious and they had 1 vegan option and I would have given it more stars if they had more vegan options. The beer was well kept and we enjoyed it, especially as our first beer in a pub for over 8 months! The barman even remembered our preference when we returned the second night!The staff were very friendly; the food was served promptly and was well presented.We would definitely return here to stay and eat if we need to stay in the area again.

A cosy pub that ‘s really a restaurant . The bar is welcoming with a nice fire and hand drawn portraits of famous people around the walls . Steve was very friendly and helpful and the beer and wine well kept. We ordered Cromer crab to start and then Duck breast for my wife and I had salmon tagliatelle. All were excellent, tasty and generous portions . In all , excellent food , nice atmosphere and friendly service. Highly recommended !

Stopped on our bike ride. lovely beer garden, friendly staff and nice food ( we only had nibbles but the mini wraps were lovely and the kids enjoyed the chips that much we had to order an extra bowl). Definitely revisit.

We were staying in the area and wanted somewhere for Sunday lunch – we made a good choice with The Harnser at Stalham.I telephoned the day before to make a reservation and only available time was at 2pm. So that’s a good sign of the popularity of the place.Our table was well spaced from others, service was friendly and staff wore masks.We both ordered roast pork and it was amazing – and served with excellent vegetables cooked to perfection.No starters are offered but a dessert is included in the set price of £12.75

We visited the Harnser for the first time since return after lockdown. The service was excellent even they were very busy. We all had the roast lunch which was very good we all enjoyed it. I will certainly visit again.

Eaten here a number of times over the past couple of years when visiting on holiday or weekend breaks. It’s now our go to venue for food when we are nearby. Always interesting specials on the menu

If you haven't stayed or eaten here,then your missing a great experience,rooms are spotlessly clean,great decor,comfy double bed,friendly service,nothing is to much trouble,even as a stranger the staff make you feel so welcome,the food is well prepared and you can tell the chef and his staff know there way around a kitchen,food is freshly cooked and delicious,with just the right amount of flavour,food portions are more than ample for the big eater.and price is very reasonable,I highly recommend and you'll not be disappointed.we shall return again when we can.

Really nice food here - the menu gets a good balance by not being over stretched but with an adventurous range done well and really nicely presented. The tapas plates were great as were the (spicy) fajitas bowl and the Katsu curry. Veggies well catered for and service was good - nice garden too. Best food we had in the area.

Fantastic pub rooms are very good for a hotel room bed lovely wardrobe excellent and shower perfect if looking for 5 star forget it. this is 5 star staff and 5 star sceanery with rooms to have a nice sleep in and be made to make you feel at home.

My partner and I visited here early July.We were warmly welcomed ,and an excellent menu was available to us considering post Covid potential stock problems.We had Warm bread and Dips for an appetiser, followed by a main course of seafood jambalaya and I had Spanish tapas 3 separate items , both were excellent.We shared the Elton mess sundae as it was so big.Can’t wait to return.

We think this is the best Sunday Lunch such a selection of vegetables and the gravy is the best. Also Sunday Lunch to take out is great. Staff very nice.

We regularly go to.the harnser the sunday roast is excellent plenty of food and good value the staff are lovely and I love the atmoshere there its a proper pub nice log fire and they play lots of good songs mostly oldies I would recommend this pub give it a try you wont be dissapointed

My husband found this little pub with B&B, pictures looked lovely , when we arrived the lady that checked us in was lovely , she took us to are accommodation, showed us everything, customer serve was excellent, working in hospitality for a long time I would with out a doubt have her on my team.Our room was perfect, again being in the hotel trade I deal with reservations, manager of reception, dealWith weddings so show round for brides I have to make sure the rooms are perfect so I do look and observe and I found NO fault at all very well decorated, very comfortable.The staff were just amazingly friendly, the locals were very welcoming, very interested in why your here happy to tell you places of interest etc Food was amazing.Breakfast was even betterThe whole experience was perfect.Thank you to all the wonderful staff and localsWe will be back next year.Michelle & Stuart Dukes

What a place lovely staff the room was amazing so much attention to detail coffee make in the room was the icing on the cake normally stop in Premier inns with work was so happy to find this place bed was so comfy every thing was clean WiFi was very fast I want to go back its a true hidden gem. So nice to stop and have your own front door. I can not recommend this enough and for the price.

Plenty of enticing veggie and vegan options on the menu so relieved that I felt my choice of the Penang curry was the right one. It tasted as good as it looked - delicate flavours, a lovely consistency and the veg perfectly done. Vegan chilli also looked good and no one's going to refuse such a very generous portion of creamy vegan ice cream, especially when presented by such friendly staff. I'll be back. Thank you.

Local to where we are staying - great Caribbean chicken curry as well as the liver and onions. Private party in one side of pub meant only a few tables but we arrived early so we’re not disappointed.

We booked a table for our anniversary meal. Food ordered restaurant not busy. Food not arrived after over half an hour. Had to chase and then still wait 10mins. Sorry Harnser won’t be back again as the sane happened last year.

Eight of us went for dinner and it was faultless, from the starters to the main meal, all eight of us had a different meal but they were served up together hot and no one was left waiting.

Visited Saturday night without booking. Not a problem. Ordered the Harnser combo - a huge plate of food! All well cooked with nice size salad and 2 dips. Husbands burger fab too. Did go for dessert too but they are big too. Must resist next time. Then great singing from Katt. Glad we went, will be back.

Property was very clean and comfortable. Friendly staff and very helpful. Dinner and breakfast was fantastic, freshly cooked. Room was spacious and well laid out with a huge power shower. Only complaint was the coffee machine in the room was dirty but as everything else was spotless this may have been an oversight.

Fish Friday - don't miss it! Moby Dick sized fish chips and peas for under tenner and excellent Sunday roasts and other meal deals! Staff are great !

We really enjoyed staying here the night before we picked up the boat for a holiday on the Broads.

Stopped here due to a recommendation from a stranger after we moored our boat. The man behind the bar was fab and nothing was too much trouble. He was polite as was our waitress. There were 9 of us and everyone had a delicious meal. The portions were perfect and it was all lovely and home cooked. Our three kids thoroughly enjoyed running around the garden and the locals were very inviting. If we are ever in the area again we will not hesitate about coming back. Thank you

We stayed here for 2 nights in the family suite and we could not find anything to fault. Our accommodation was spacious, clean and modern. This room had been recently refurbished and you can tell no expense spared when doing so. There were the finishing touches that made the differences big fluffy towels, miniature toiletries, coffee machine, USB ports and soft bedding along with a comfortable bed. We ate dinner in the adjoining pub both nights of our stay and thoroughly enjoyed our meals. For breakfast which was included in a very reasonable room rate was lovely and there was a good choice to choose from. The staff were all pleasant and helpful. Our daughter enjoyed playing in the tree at the bottom of the beer garden. We would definitely recommend and hope to return soon. A winner for all the family and in a good location.

Myself and my partner stayed at the Harnser as a stop off before our boating holiday. We couldn't fault it. The room itself was lovely and very clean. It was newlt decorated and it was very nice. We had dinner at the connected pub. The food was delicious! It was hot and fresh and reasonably priced. The breakfast, which was included in the price, was amazing as well. We would definitely visit again if we are in the area. Fantastic stay!

Ten of us visited The Harnser for lunch yesterday and had a most enjoyable time, with beautifully presented food in a pleasant environment. This is our local pub and feel so lucky to have such a family orientated eating place so close to home.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, the room was well equipped and had plenty of space for a small twin. The supplied toiletries were high quality and they’re very generous with tea, coffee and biscuits!! Joss is very welcoming, there was a great band on when we stayed and the breakfast was a great finish to our lovely stay. We can’t wait to come back.

Lovely little hide away b n b in Stalham. Only three rooms with a huge breakfast and choices. Evening meal and welcome lovely too. Well worth the visit.

Wide selection of real and guest ales. Well priced, traditional and well cooked pub grub with daily specials. Very friendly staff. Regular live music every Saturday.

First time visiting this establishment but will definitely be returning. Visited for dinner last night. Staff were very welcoming and found us a table even though we hadn’t booked. All tables had reserved signs on them. We were sat down as soon as the table was ready and given menus and informed of the specials for that night. Food arrived quite quickly and was presented nicely. Fish was the best I have had for a long time. Gammon steak was tasty with homemade onion rings as well as other fresh vegetables.

This is the second time we have been to this establishment. Todays visit we enjoyed our meals very well. The service was very good and the staff friendly. There is also a friendly atmosphere The food is well presented and well cooked.

I've been here a couple of times with family when they've been visiting and the meals have always been spot on. Staff are very welcoming and polite.

Lovely village pub that offers great food. The staff are friendly and helpful. The pub has good size garden suitable for the children to run around and play. There is a good size carpark

We had passed this Pub before tonight decided to visit for a meal. What an excellent decision that was. The staff are extremely friendly, the food was delicious I had the Harnser Combo my Wife had the Liver and Bacon. Before we left we booked for Sunday Dinner, which by looking at the reviews we will also enjoy. The cost wasn't expensive either. If you are passing or close by you need to try it.

The Harnser was the latest stop on our tour of visiting the hostelries local to our new home . Overall, we were quite impressed. despite being very busy everyone took the time to make sure we were comfortable, fed and watered . By coincidence we chanced upon their Friday fish and chip special, which I have to say offers remarkable value, with a good choice of fish . Did not have any experience of the normal menu, but from what I saw it was quite varied. Three well kept real ales and a small but well-priced wine list . We were so impressed with the fish and chip deal, we're tempted to go back on a Fri, but would also like to try their other offerings.

Excellent food and service, very traditional home cooked food with plenty of variety. Nothing too much trouble for the bar staff and waiting staff,very clean and tidy, reasonably priced.

cosy feel to this pub, Big plus, they're open on a Monday night in the holiday season!
