The Hare in Harlow

First visit here in 30 years. Looks exactly the same as I remember from the outside and a bit nicer inside. Only stayed for one drink though

First time here with our 4 dance friends. Eat out regular on Wednesday & this has been one of best around Harlow so far. Good service , excellent food, well presented in a reasonable time. Good comfortable seating. & to top it off 2 for one on pub classics. Pre booked for next week. Highly recommended.⁹

At first I was quite unsure about the food on the menu, but I don’t regret ordering it! Their chicken is very good, although it is too salty for my liking. Their halloumi fries were very nice but got quite oily and sickening. Their mozzarella bites were immaculate, I have nothing bad to say about that. The cheesy garlic ciabatta is perfect, nothing bad to say about that. The chips are divine! Crunchy, salty, and just amazing in general. Their chicken burger was massive, but still amazing. It was herby, salty, juicy and crispy! For their service, the service there was very nice! When ordering, very alter I asked for was made and they give you time if you are not sure what to order yet. The food cooking duration is not long at all, and overall it was amazing. The atmosphere was nice and cozy, but was also quite stifling. Overall, I would definitely go there again and recommend it to people.

Got there bang on time midday, took my order approx 20 mins after sitting we gave them sides and mains all at the same time served up sides approx 10 minutes later then we waited a further 40 minutes plus at this time it was 1.15 minutes making it 1.15pm . Now around 12:50pm I said to the lady when will my mains be here she said very soon! It was when I saw other families who came in after us get their food before us it dawned on me that we not dealt with in a chronological and that is extremely unfair and insulting. So I went to the till paid for my drinks (which now I found out they got wrong) amounting to £27.70 which I paid then the lady at the till said would you like still to have your food as we can put it in a takeaway box, like really!! I just wanted out of there as felt insulted, humiliated. Now as I initially was offered to scan my card to put it on the tab, later when I got back home I saw a text from my bank and voicemail where The Hare tried taking a further £9.75 off my card which my bank stopped them from doing and alerted me so on the text from my bank I said NOT AUTHORISED for the £9.75 and then bank asked me was the £27.70 authorised and i said YES. As a result of the £9.75 not being authorised my bank has now cancelled my card and will send a new one which means I can't use my card at all and hopefully I will get this in a week's time. I phoned up 01279 424280 spoke to Jason who stated that they tried taking the £9.75 as the lady at the till messed up and should of took more. I said to him it should of been transactional protocol to call me first (they had my mobile from the day before when I booked) and so that Jason could explain and then me authorise the extra payment but no they just went ahead ignored further decency in customer service (hence I left) and tried taking payment causing me massive agrovation. Jason (the manager) refused to accept ANY responsibility and pushed the blame back on to me saying that the food 'allegedly' was cooked and read to go out and he had to bin it when simply I requested my food 20 minutes + before going to the till and paying up my bill. Just for the record I go to other restaurants and NEVER have had to wait more than 30 to 40 minutes tops and the service I receive most of the time is exceptional. I have given this 1 star however The Hare does not even deserve that. I hope any one planning to go reads this and if I was you DO NOT swipe your card ready for them to take at will pay as you go insert you card and go PIN way this is as long as you do not mind waiting 1.5 hours plus for your food to turn up! Never be going there every again. Well done Jason your arrogance is outstanding, no wonder your staff follow in your foot steps with their cavalier approach, well done you!

We all payed £9 each for buffet food 6 chooses for 16 people . 2 trays of sandwiches ham mustard /tuna cucumber/cheese tomato don’t know where the cheese was but not in the sandwiches. 1 basket of each so then fried chicken -chicken wings-wedges—sausage rolls—dessert s to many sandwiches not enough of everything else . It was a shame as venue ws fine but for buffet amounts .

Went for a special evening for 18th birthday the food very basic Halloumi fries not that brilliant the Lasagne was hot but not tasty

The 241 is worth, dessert really good and good variety of beers

The decor is amazing and has changed so much (for good) over the years. Smaller 2:1 choice. We both ordered pie (to my disappointment it was served as a slice and not indvidual pies) the dish tasted amazing and it went down fast. I was still hungry. However, it was 2:1 working out to be around £5.50 for the dish. I should have ordered a side too 😁 Friendly staff, book a table as it can be busy and when it is busy the wait time on food can be long (we waited around 45mins and the chef brought it out himself) There is plenty of car parking. Will return.

I had the rump steak, and I ordered it rare, and it certainly was. One of the best cooked steaks being nice fat and juicy. Would definitely have the steak again. I rarely order steak anymore as I have been disappointed even in the best of restaurants with how it has been cooked. So thank you chef it was gorgeous. Parking is excellent and the staff are always friendly and very helpful. Carol

Ten of us visited for dinner last week and the whole experience was superb. We were able to use the snug and the staff didn't mind us moving the tables around. The waitress was excellent and all the food came out quickly. Congratulations to the kitchen for managing to juggle all the different meal choices and get them out at the same time. Definitely recommend a visit.

Find was good, nice and friendly service

A nice meal had here. We had the set menu. The set menu for me was slightly limited and I had to stray out of my comfort zone, but what I got was very nice and very well prepared. The staff were very good and very friendly creating a welcoming atmosphere. We will visit again for sure!

The Hare Public House is a nice, comfortable, and affordable place to visit. The chicken tikka masala on the menu is great and you get buy one get one free, great bargain and you can go ultimate and get the extras like onion bhaji etc. With a lovely glass of wine the bill comes in under 30pd for 2 people. Great place to go for a friend catch up lunch or family gathering dinner. Try it.

Very disappointed. Ordered a Winter Warmer and was given the last pint in the barrel that was off. Changed it to IPA that was also off. No suggestion to change the barrels, very poor and quite rude service.

Fantastic experience was had at this lovely pub. The staff made it worthwhile. The service was impeccable and we could not ask for better.

The turkey I had was tasteless but portions were generous and turkey is always tasteless, so why did I order it 😂

Again a lovely meal and drinks at very reasonable price. MUST say, see the same staff members and they are all very prefessions and friendly. Would highly recommend for good simple food 241 on some meals and drinks. My first ever fruit sundae and it was lovely All good again, set up for Christmas and looks lovely

Always lovely staff with some nice beers They have recently changed the menu and reduced the 241 options which was a huge reason me and my friends visited. Without this option there are plenty of other just as good food/grub places in Harlow

Met my friend there for Sunday lunch. We both had the ultimate roast which was a large portion. Food was tasty and the ladies who served us were lovely. Have been before for drinks also and has a great time, nice atmosphere in the pub and nicely decorated and decent prices. Would recommend and I will be going back as it's not far from my house.

Best place to eat and socialise with friends and family

I had roast beef. The beef was very fatty & the roast potatoes were rock hard. Like they had been deep fried. Very disappointed as it was a birthday meal from my friend.

We went to the Hare for dinner. The staff were attentive and the food was lovely and fresh and piping hot. The pub had a nice atmosphere and I cannot fault the experience. We will definitely visit again.

The Hare is a beautifully quaint little pub with that great countryside asthetic. It's quiet, set back a little from the road, and has a decent amount of parking. The food here has always been exceptional, and remains so since their recent refit. We decided to come for lunch as we hadn't visited in some time, and were all impressed with the new decor, which remains tasteful, yet interesting. We were soon joined by lots of other people, which shows how popular it is. Many of the locals are known to the staff, as they come for lunch every week. Staff are friendly, welcoming and attentive, without being overbearing. The Hare is probably the best pub in Harlow, absolutely well worth a visit.

Inedible food (I had the nut roast - ate only the trimmings) rude and unprofessional staff. Do not recommend and will definitely not be going back there...

Absolutely wonderful pub. I took my daughter, wife and a friend to The Hare pub for lunch and thoroughly enjoyed the food and atmosphere there. We enjoyed it so much, we can back for another 2 visits....again the following 2 visits were just as wonderful. Will be coming back in July when we holiday in the UK again.

First time I visited this pub, it was a nice place, good drink, I never ate there but the food I saw looked ok.

Great pub diner, tucked away with plenty of free parking space. Had lunch for 3 and all meals were above expectation for the price charged. Cooked to order, salad fresh and made to order. If anything to moan about the Gammon and Eggs, very thin Gammon, just thicker than a good rasher of bacon, 2 eggs. Better with a thicker meat and 1 egg.

Lovely little place staff really friendly and helpful. Had a yummy vegan curry and was given advice on what’s ingredients where used .

Since the lock down the pub chain changed its menu and It is a poor choice, no steaks like they used to have. We stayed for the first time in ahead for Sunday lunch with extended family. The beef was very tough( should be cooked in a gravy which would make it more tender) potatoes tastless and smothered in gravy when we prefer to put our own on. £3.95 for a watery cauliflower cheese that had one lump of mozzarella on it. Revolting. Vegetables spread all over the plate were overcooked and again watery. Will not make the mistake of eating there again.

Service has improved, some of the meals are buy one get one free which helps with the cost of living at the moment. The food is very nice and have a good variety.

Not enough staff to wait on tables. Service almost non existent.

Went for Christmas dinner, friendly staff, big car park cosy but service was too long. No one checked how our food was, had to ask for the cranberry sauce, frozen brussels, parsnip was hard, sausages a little overcooked, cinnamon waffle for dessert had apple which was too tart. Food was very well presented though.

Been coming here years have not had a problem apart from recently with the staff ask for card for table service was sat for 30 minutes before drinks came over and had to go up to bar to order food even tho had table service don’t come over and accommodate this is not a 1 time thing this is a occurring problem with the staff

Service was really good but the food is obviously microwaved, the lasagne just looked a mess but did taste OK but the hunters chicken was completely over heated and aosta inedible.The desserts were good though

The pub is lovely and the staff are really nice but the food was awful. Hunters chicken tasted like it was frozen chicken not fresh cooked chicken breast and my sons burger was so bad he couldn’t eat it. It seemed like it was frozen and reheated too.
