Green Man in Harlow

Recently visited the green man with family and can definitely say we had a great time here! The food was lovely and good portion sizes too, the staff were very friendly, especially our waitress lucy who was very welcoming and attentive! We will definitely be coming back soon

Had a private room for a group booking. Staff serving us were brilliant. The food however was disappointing. Had the sharing platter and extra sides, most bits were not good

Not the best experience . We live locally and like to see this pub busy but the food is a bit hit and miss. We had crispy chicken strips to start which weren't very hot and the onions on the top were a cold soggy mess . Asparagus stater was hard and dry . The steak and ale pie had a soggy bottom and top which was hard to cut , possibly been warmed up in a microwave . Filling was delicious fortunately. The chips were a very small portion spread out on the plate and not crispy . Pork loin was very tasty . We didn't bother with desserts and just had coffees .service was efficient and pleasant .

7pm booking for 2 people and 2 dogs. Waited 25 mins after being seated for someone to take our drink and food order before leaving. It was only after leaving that I remembered having to ask for a refund from a previous visit after desserts never arrived. I've only been here twice, never again. Shame as a nice looking pub with good outdoor space

The Green man pub in old Harlow us our favourite pub and restaurant. The staff are always helpful and friendly. There is a good selection of beers and the bar snacks are very diverse and tasty Abbi was particularly friendly and helpful as was Dan who helped us choose the best drinks .

I went for a Sunday roast which was so good and was served by Louise who was amazing :)

Good location to meet with family for a meal. Food was really good with a number of vegan options to choose. Allergens clearly marked on menu. The vegan wines were also labelled as such which made ordering so much easier! Served today by Sydney who couldn't have been better. Very friendly lady with the right balance of being attentive but not overbearing. Only giving 4 stars as the sweet potato was missing from my meal. I'm sure it would have been rectified but I only realised when I had reason to look at the menu again when I got home.

I absolutely love this place. The food is always great and they do a fabulous Mother's day offer. Today I didn't stay at the hotel but enjoyed a Sunday Roast of minted lamb shank and a dessert called trio of classics. They were all served by the lovely Louise who gave exceptional service. Me and my family visited yesterday afternoon for lunch where we was greeted by the lovely Dan who was very accommodating, the food and drinks was both of great quality and I would definitely recommend!

I went to the Greenman last night with a few of my girl friends we had a lovely evening the atmosphere was very comfy and relaxed, not to mention the bar staff are super friendly we was served by Abbie and she had great knowledge of all the drinks that they have to offer.

Fabulous stay, food was delicious and service was impeccable.

Me and my Partner Visited the Green Man pub and the service we Received from all staff on shift especially Abbie she gave Outstanding Customer service, The best we have received in a very long time, She was very polite with a Smile on her face. We have visited here before a while ago and was served by Daniel at the bar who was also brilliant with a great conversation. This pub has a great atmosphere all round. I would recommend this pub to my family and friends and anyone who wants to enjoy a drink as the beer selection is really good my favourite was Level Headed so had to sample a few lol. We are still yet to try the food as this looks absolutely brilliant but 10/10 on everything Thankyou Green Man, Keep up the good work

Tried the new Sunday Lunch today at the Green Man, had the Lamb Shank is was lovely, great job chefs and a mention to louise for her great service.

Terrible, terrible, TERRIBLE experience - AVOID. Two of us visited today (Sunday afternoon/evening). Initially, we ordered a cup of tea and sparkling water at the bar, having an hour to spare before an appointment. They said they only had soda water and told us they would bring the tea to the table. All of the empty tables were dirty, so we chose the one with the least amount of food on it, but couldn’t rest our hands on its surface given the amount of spilled liquid present. Thirty-five minutes passed before the tea came (the soda water tasted awful) - and we had to remind the waitress because she’d forgotten. When she eventually came, she arrived without apology, and spilled a significant amount of the tea onto the table. I looked at her, not thrilled at only narrowly avoiding a boiling water burn, and she laughed, said, ‘oops’, and left, again without apology or without offering to wipe the table, leaving us to stare at the unhygienic, hot, liquid mess. Nonetheless, we thought that perhaps they were too busy, as it was Sunday, and wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt. We liked the beautiful interior and the place was near somewhere we were visiting, so thought we’d try again for dinner service - BIG MISTAKE. We returned just before 7 p. m. and were promptly seated by a friendly member of staff - possibly the manager. In our half of the restaurant, maybe three or four tables including ours were taken, and we spotted at least three waitresses working there, so there were clearly enough staff for the amount of people present. However, it still took at least twenty minutes before someone came to our table - the same waitress as we’d seen earlier in the day - and we had to get her attention (again) beforehand. We started by ordering one orange juice and asked if they offered a Virgin Mary (a spicy tomato juice with no alcohol - a basic, standard mocktail). The waitress said, ‘no, we don’t really do cocktails’. Someone clearly wasn’t paying attention because, first, that’s not a cocktail and, second, lists of cocktails were advertised everywhere - a menu at the table, at the bar and some even listed on a board…! I explained that a V. M. was essentially a tomato juice and asked if she could check if they sold that. She said, ‘yeah’ and immediately left without asking about the rest of our order, taking drinks orders from other tables as she exited. Some time later, she returned with drinks for other tables, ignoring us, and then went to the computer to check more diners in. We waved to her, jokingly but pointedly saying, ‘we thought you’d forgotten about us’, as she slouched over. Yet again, she offered no apology, just saying, ‘yeah, they don’t do it’. I said I’d have water instead, to which she replied, ‘right…’, and we earnestly told her we were ready to order food as well, given that she obviously wasn’t going to ask. Predictably at this point, she vacuously said, ‘yeah, right’, followed by, ‘oh…my battery just died’ (referring to the electronic machine she used to take orders). She started fiddling with the device and at that point we got up, saying that we’d leave. She looked shocked and the member of staff who’d checked us in noticed, stopping what she was doing but not getting herself involved while we were there. We left with no offer of apology or explanation from anyone. I used to work as a waitress and never spoke so impolitely to customers, and certainly didn’t leave a table mid-order…!!! It’s not clear how much of this woman’s don’t-care attitude came from her and how much of it was poor training…given that there have been several other negative reviews left on this platform over the past couple of weeks and they’ve all received the same, ‘we’re sorry, this is not our usual standard, etc.’, response, I’m not holding my breath for an explanation here, but hopefully this review will prevent at least one person from wasting their time and money at this place.

No prices on gin menu, despite having prices on the rest of the menu - very expensive G&T!

I’m not one to leave negative reviews as I know how much it can impact a business but on this occasion I feel I have no choice. Firstly the restaurant is beautiful, it’s been renovated and has a cosy, welcoming feel to it, was lovely and clean and has a good selection of food and drinks. We visited on Easter Sunday, around 12pm, my husband and I and our twin babies and a couple of friends. Got there nice and early to make sure we could get a table with an adequate amount of space for my large double pram and also to be tucked out of the way so our two babies didn’t impose on anyone’s afternoon. We had been sitting at the table for around 30-45 minutes when a staff member came over and announced “guys, you have about half an hour and then we need this table so you need to move, sorry” - I looked around and said oh, is this table reserved then, as there was no signs up and she said no, and explained there had been a booking in the restaurant but they had a dog, but as no dogs allowed in the restaurant, they need our table instead. I said “but we are sitting here?” And she said again “really sorry” and walked off. There had clearly been an error when the booking was made and the fact there was a dog had been missed. If the staff member had come over and explained the issue and would we mind moving to help them out, we would have done so gladly, but to be told we had to move, through no fault of our own and no real apology, was really frustrating. As we were moving, I asked the lady politely “what is your name please” she looked at me over her shoulder not even making eye contact and said “I’m not gonna tell you my name darlin, as I don’t need to” - unbelievably rude!! Even the other staff members looked embarrassed. I don’t know if this lady was a supervisor or a manager, but she was rude, immature and extremely unprofessional. I have been working in customer service for over 20 years and I would never have spoken to my customers like this or expected them to move due to an error on their part. Whoever the nameless girl is needs re training, and to learn some manners and how to handle customer situations. I have been visiting the Green Man for around 10 years and this has put me off ever going back if this is how loyal customers are treated. Awful.

May family of 4 visited the restaurant for dinner on Easter Sunday. Our waitress was unfriendly and looked liked she didn’t want to be there, I would say she was actually rude. It ruined the experience for us and made us feel like an inconvenience. The deposit we paid was not taken off the bill. Food was average. Portion sizes small especially chips on the kids meals, had to order separate portion for them. My son had the smallest scoop of lemon sorbet for dessert when it said on menu 2 scoops. The service was so poor it’s a shame.

Hotel staff really friendly. We ate there too and it was good food at good prices louise was our waitress who was friendly and handled our table well

A good pub on a cold night. I haven't been back for about 15yrs and it's still busy and well run. I didn't use the Hotel/restaurant, so l can't comment about that part of the business, but the bar is nice.

We visited the Green Man at lunchtime and enjoyed a a value for money meal which was made all the more enjoyable by our server, the excellent, friendly, vivacious, efficient and charming Megan M.

All the staff at this location were friendly and kind. They make you feel welcome and so at rest. Massive shout out to Jan a our server because even though we were there for a sad occasion managed to put a smile on our faces. If you want a family friendly welcome place this is the place to go.

Beautiful restaurant, amazing food and our host (i would call her a server but she was more than that) Megan M was welcoming, chatty, really knew the menu and brilliant at her job. A really lovely meal.

My friends and I came here the other day for a bit of lunch during our break. We found that the atmosphere was very relaxing and calm. Our waitress went above and beyond and nothing was ever too much for her. The food was very new and was at a reasonable price. Would definitely recommend coming here no matter the occasion.

We came for dinner mid week and the food was great, lots of choice and we loved the starters! A special mention to our waitress Janna who was so friendly and chatty. She made out visit really lovely. Would recommend and would come again.

My daughter and wife visited here and asked for a gluten free menu which they got . My daughter is celiac and ordered from the gluten free menu , when the meals turned up she had ordered the gluten free steak and ale pie it turned out to be mushroom pie she called the waitress over and asked if this was the right meal , she said yes ,a while later my daughter was in pain from eating the meal it turns out it was the wrong pie . She has phoned the restaurant and got nothing from the person who she spoke to . What the point of a gluten free menu if they don’t stick to it . Gluten free food is not a fade it to prevent pain and stress from being celiac,this is the second time it’s happened there the first we noticed it before she ate it

We went to the Green man for Mother’s Day but on the Saturday set menus! Lauren served us and she was excellent always a great service here The food was very good and we had a nice evening would definitely go again soon

Lovely restaurant, fairy lights are a nice touch to the decor. 4 of us visited and fully enjoyed our food, our server Megan was very friendly.

We had 2 lovely meals here on the 2 nights we stayed. On the first night Megan was our server and did a fantastic job. Attentive and friendly what more can you ask. On the second night we were found a table even though they were fully booked, we can’t thank you enough. Again the service was great and the food on both nights was wonderful. The hotel was comfy but very dated.However we only needed somewhere to rest our heads. Apparently it is due a total refurb soon so perhaps another visit will be on the cards.

Had a lovely lunch in the garden this week with the beautiful weather and some gin and tonic!!! Was quite busy but the staff were still very attentive, especialy Natasha who dealt with our lunch menu questions.

We had a lovely family meal to celebrate my parents Diamond Wedding Anniversary and my Mums 80th birthday. Megan looked after us and was very patient and attentive. The food was wonderful. Would recommend a visit.

Myself and my husband had a meal in this fabulous place , it was jut lovely. The food was perfect service better than anything we have received in ages. Megan who looked after us was friendly helpful and accommodating. The gentleman who was front of house was professional welcoming.We initially had low expectations as we had visited 5 horseshoes in Berkhamsted a few months previously and it was awful. We ended up walking out. The food was dreadful. The 5 Horseshoes needs to look at The Greenman and get some tips from them.We will be back, it is now a new " go to place" thank you to all.

Had a large party booked in on a Saturday and the staff and venue were superb. Not long for the food and drink to arrive and the food was excellent and reasonably priced. Special praise for Lauren who handled the whole evening expertly and always with a smile.

This was the lunch stop for our ramble around the various 'ages' of Harlow. Great choice, generous portions and really tasty when it arrived.

I don’t usually leave reviews on trip advisor but my experience was so amazing that I absolutely had to! I went to the green man the other day with my friends and I was being such a difficult customer. Me and my friends kept changing our minds about what we wanted and I have to admit one of my friends may have come across as quite rude at times yet our waitress, Hollie, was really understanding and patient with us. The service was great and Hollie was an absolute asset to the green man, she was lovely to talk to and generally just a sweet girl. Me and the girls all agreed that she really made the experience wonderful. Would definitely come back here again!

Eight old chatty friends meeting for a sunday lunch catch up was not going to be easy for any server, but our server Megan M was absolutely brilliant.She was prompt, attentive, played along with our jokes and just all round friendly and welcoming. Food was simply amazing, i had roast beef which was such a huge portion but so tasty, please tell me how you cooked the carrots they were gorgeous, all fresh veg, everything was hot and nothing was too much trouble. I actually rate this night out as a 5/5 but my phone wouldn’t let me.We were a table of 8 and put in a private dining space. This was perfect for us to all catch up and talk without disturbing others. We had a great evening. Service was absolutely amazing. Our waitress was called Janna. Even though we were tucked away she checked on us regularly for drinks. The food was fabulous. Not sure what you do to the chips but they were so crispy and yet fluffy!
