Green Man in Harlow

I would highly recommend a visit to the Green Man Old Harlow. Lovely food, lovely atmosphere and a lovely waitress (Sophia). Couldn’t fault it.

The staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating, would 100% recommend! Louise remembered our order and brought it over when it was ready. Joe and the rest of the team strive to make the pub a family and relaxing atmosphere.

It didn't start to well, there were plenty of empty tables, we were seated on a small table where my chair was touching another customers chair, another couple's table was right behind my partner's table. We were all bunched together with everyone talking over each other with no chance of a private conversation. We asked to be moved. Then everything was fine

We as a family met there after my mums funeral. We had to have the breakfast options and there was no room for manoeuvre. There were 18 of us. Most of us ordered English breakfast. Extra toast also ordered. We were not made aware that 1 portion of toast was half a slice of bread? This wasn’t acceptable. My elderly dad also asked the waitress for his coffee as he thought she had forgotten. She replied “I’ve only got 1 pair of hands!! “ I was mortified and pulled her up on her response. My dad has Alzheimer’s so gets confused. We paid out a lot of money that day and staff were also trying to dismantle Xmas decorations whilst we were eating and chatting in the area we were seated in. No compassion or common sense considering we informed them why we were there. We all left after paying the extortionate bill and will not be returning. No one serving at the bar either.

Table was too small for 4 adults. The staff struggled to place our food on the table. Making it a very poor experience. The table was only suitable for two. We couldn’t wait to leave, and find another pub to sit and enjoy drinks after.

Went here for a meal to treat my nana before returning home to northern ireland. The service was fantastic from start to finish and the food was amazing and big portions. We had a 2 course from the Christmas menu and everything was perfectly cooked! Thank you!

Darcy and all the staff helped make my Dad's birthday a great meal, the service was excellent and the food was delicious and hot. 100% recommended.

Previous visits here were not the best owing to shoddy service. However, our family visit on Sunday, 11 of us and baby, was a much better experience. Food was hot and served in a good time, our waitress, Emma, was super, very attentive with a lovely smile and welcoming manner. Thank you Emma x

This is a really nice pub with great food options, I'm vegan and didn't expect so many options! We were served by Darcy who was sooo friendly and lovely! We had a baby with us so asked for various bits and bobs, and Darcy went above and beyond to accommodate us. Unfortunately we left in a rush and didn't realise the bill didn't include a tip! We're very sorry Darcy because you deserved a big one! From the 4 girls who lunched on Saturday with the baby :)

Myself and my family attended the pub for my grandparents 50th wedding anniversary, it was a lovely evening. Our server Georgia was absolutely lovely, especially having to deal with a large group of us - she created such a warm and friendly environment, we cannot thank her enough. We all LOVED our food and are looking forward to coming back another time!

Fantastic service from our waitress Lucy came in for Sunday lunch the food was amazing. We had the rib of beef and pork belly it was delicious. We had such good service from Lucy we will definitely be back again!

The four of us had a fantastic experience at The Green Man restaurant in Harlow. From the moment we arrived to the time we left we felt comfortable and completely relaxed. Our waitress, Sadie, was very friendly, polite and helpful, attending to our needs and ensuring that we were all enjoying our meal and drinks.

Amazing food, great service, such an unexpected find! The portions are a decent size and presented to restaurant standard. Full of flavour, I had starter of whipped goats cheese with roasted beetroot followed by glazed pork belly, I couldn't even fit pudding! The waitress Darcy was lovely and very accommodating and did everything with a smile. Definitely a place to come back to.

With great food and friendly staff this traditional pub is a great place to have a meal with family or friends. The garden to the rear is a great little sun trap.

Although i wasn’t a big fan and my experiences before wasn’t the best after a while i decided to attend and todays visit was exceptional, We sat down by a window, at first my expectations were rather low but the waitress with the name Natalia had changed my mind, she served us and had an impressively engaged attitude she made sure we was perfectly served i almost thought i was eating in another restaurant due to my previous experiences haha, i ordered a cod and duo chicken which were filling and tasty, the waitress also recommended me onion rings which was just what i needed, i also ordered rose which was poured by the lovely waitress, and then some coffee. I’m happy to see the restaurant improve in terms of food quality as well as the service and they should hire more people like her, i would recommend coming here as of now.

Good room and food. No air conditioning, so staying on the hottest day of the year Was not ideal, but would be ok on the other 364 days!

Great place for a drink and a meal

Quality and service definitely gone down hill. I used to go regularly for Friday pub lunch (twice a month). First of all, they've stopped some of the favourite dishes (Fish goujin sandwich) which I always ordered. Stopped cheesecake desert so stopped buying. That doesn't make sense as we'd spend £7-8 each on desert. Also, coffee used to come with biscuit which also stopped. Younger staff who keep you waiting to take order, then drinks, then food and then serve. I went for fathers day, my wife and daughter good served. Daugther didn't get her drinks for more than 15 minutes despite me asking twice! My fish and chips were served to me 45 minutes after my wife and daughter had been served. It was soggy and greasy. I didn't say anything as by that time I had enough and decided I would never return. It wasn't busy as half the tables were empty. FYI, I went here twice a week on Fridays for lunch, every other month for dinner, New Years, Mothers Day etc. My wife and I were regulars not that staff ever noticed. I recognised the staff. We always tipped generously (10%) even with bad service. I've noticed most guests do not tip. The only time we got proper atention from staff was when paying the bill - I should not have caved in and tipped - I always do as I recognise waiting staff do a hard job. However, quality of service and standards have gone downhill and Green Man has lost this regular customer as I will not return after multiple dissapointments. Finally, another reason why I did not complain is I have heard patrons open discuss their dissapointments about food being taken off the menu etc only to be fobbed off with weak excuses from staff - so why would I bother. Hence the review here. Same really as good location, free parking, USED to be good food with service but no more. Best to avoid unless you want to be dissapointed and served with sub-standard service, late and poor quality food.

Just like to say that I had an amazing experience here. Staff were polite and very helpful. Lovely young lady called Sophia served us and made our meal special. The manager daniel came around asking if everything was OK and asking if we needed anything else. Overall, a very good experience. Highly recommend

Had a great time at the Green Man, food was perfect and Dan couldn't do enough for us during the visit. Would definitely recommend this for a meal out and worth a trip to get there.

I did not stay at the hotel but the restaurant is shocking. I arrived to be greeted by a rude host, when i was served my main the sauce that came with was like jelly and was foul. For desert i ordered sticky toffee pudding and it arrived to me still frozen on the inside, even the spoon had leftover mayo from the previous customer. The lime in my diet coke was brown (last time i checked limes weren’t supposed to be brown) Overall 0/10 do not recommend (left 1star but would give less off i could)

The Green Man is a lovely pub/hotel just inside Old Harlow, close enough to London that I can travel in but far enough away that I feel like I'm in the countryside. Joe is a great host, always very accommodating, and the staff in the restaurant and bar are always very friendly and helpful. A great spot.

Came into the greenman last night for a meal with my family, georgia was our waitress and she was an absolute delight! I ordered the fillet from the specials and it was incredible! The while atmosphere was so warm & welcoming and i will be returning!!

Went there the other day, not realising going there was a grave mistake. I thought i would have some pints with my mates and i come in with a happy attitude but unfortunately that got ruined after i ordered 3 pints and the bartender must’ve thought i ordered 3 half pints because the heads on them were unacceptably huge. The bartender was an obnoxious female without uniform (you would think she was a customer) who had a terrible attitude. I consulted her about the “3 pints” saying that the heads are too big and she looked at me in disgust and overall i felt she was domineering towards me and seemed extremely hesitant to top up the pints. That lady completely ruined both mine and my mates experience and we struggle to think we will ever attend that excuse of a pub. Huge word of advice if you care about keeping you customers happy, please reconsider employing such horrible and unhelpful members of staff.

It’s a beautiful inn/pub but pls note that the rooms have no air conditioning - very warm in the summer. The bartenders were super helpful in recommending drinks and the food was not too bad! Cute little neighbourhood, and very picturesque inn.

We didn't stay in the rooms, we had a lovely meal in the restaurant and had a wonderful waitress named Louise who really looked after us. Caitlyn was also lovely, such a sweet girl who chatted with us lots. A lovely homely pub.

We come to the Green Man regularly for Dinner and always have a great meal with great service. Today Sophia served us and she was really accommodating with some changes to my meal and had a lovely welcoming way about her.

I love staying here. Amazing service from the hotel and the bar staff. Darcy was my server and she was fantastic. The hotel staff are always happy to help and the food is amazing.

Excellent service from our waitress Louise who made our birthday lunch very enjoyable.

Wasn’t impressed at all for a Malibu & coke and a ruddlers point of beer £12.45! also I did not like one of the barmaids attitude who has blonde hair the way she was towards my dad she was rude as well and it seemed a little cramped where we sat I was not impressed we won’t be returning here again.

Nice place but expensive for what it is.

Its a great pub and we always come with friends and family but for the past couple of times we have not had a good experience. The service from bar tender is not great, doesnt look like he knows what he is doing. The fork had hair and we also had hair in our chips and ketchup. It’s disappointing to see a great place like this have its service going down.

Midweek early dinner. 3 adults. Total bill 3 mains , 2 desserts and a couple of drinks each £117. Visited in March 2022 but was not impressed at all but recommendations from friends meant we were willing to give it another try. We didn't have a starter. Main meals were very good. Hot, well cooked and presented. Very tasty and decent price. Staff attentive, but not overly so, polite and very helpful. Nice calm atmosphere with not too many tables squeezed in. Plenty of room to move your chair and move between tables. Beer and gin selection not vast but OK. A couple of little annoyances. Car park round the back was almost full and the spaces are really narrow. Understandable, as it is a hotel, but we were there quite early and when we left, around 7.30, there were no free spots. Pretty sure there is street parking though. We were sat at a table set for 4 though there were only 3 of us. It was fine, but once you get your meals, drinks and maybe a couple of sides it would have been too much of a squeeze for 4. Thiscwas an issue when we previously visited. The final thing is the ridiculous amount of ice in drinks and the cost of drinks. I know the trend of giant bowl sized glass for gin but the glass was full to the absolute top with ice, I mean a stupid amount of ice. This meant once the tonic was added there was no room to give it a stir and by the time you're getting to the end of the drink it's hard to tell if you're just drinking water! My next gin I asked for just one cube of ice in a straight glass. Much better. The amount of ice in my G&T did not affect the price, which was a £13 for a double which I think was £2 for the tonic, but it obviously does in the soft drinks when you are paying £4.40 for a glass and it's full of ice. I'd say we'd like to go again, as it's very local to us, but probably won't very often due to the cost of the drinks. We can walk to another pub/restaurant chain where the drinks are a much more acceptable price.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!! I am not one to leave negative reviews but this deserves it. Let me give you a brief summary. I made a large booking for my daughter’s baptism (14 people) when we arrived we were giving a space within the pub and told to organise the tables how we want them as they don’t move tables. Meaning we had to arrange the cutlery, chairs etc. I then had to ask a minimum of 3 times for jugs of tap water, when it arrived it was placed on one end of the table with 14 classes that we had to pass along and poor the water ourselves (I was told by the manager on duty they do not pour the water in the glasses) we were given bread and garlic butter to share but no side plates so crumbs and butter was just going everywhere…. the list goes on and on… I am saving the rest in an email ro the general manager but please don’t waste your money at this place with the worse service I have ever received.

Had a lovely Sunday roast my partner being vegetarian was recommended what to have all the food was lovely can't fault the staff Dan and the team will definitely return.

Recently visited the green man with family and can definitely say we had a great time here! The food was lovely and good portion sizes too, the staff were very friendly, especially our waitress lucy who was very welcoming and attentive! We will definitely be coming back soon

Had a private room for a group booking. Staff serving us were brilliant. The food however was disappointing. Had the sharing platter and extra sides, most bits were not good

Not the best experience . We live locally and like to see this pub busy but the food is a bit hit and miss. We had crispy chicken strips to start which weren't very hot and the onions on the top were a cold soggy mess . Asparagus stater was hard and dry . The steak and ale pie had a soggy bottom and top which was hard to cut , possibly been warmed up in a microwave . Filling was delicious fortunately. The chips were a very small portion spread out on the plate and not crispy . Pork loin was very tasty . We didn't bother with desserts and just had coffees .service was efficient and pleasant .

7pm booking for 2 people and 2 dogs. Waited 25 mins after being seated for someone to take our drink and food order before leaving. It was only after leaving that I remembered having to ask for a refund from a previous visit after desserts never arrived. I've only been here twice, never again. Shame as a nice looking pub with good outdoor space

The Green man pub in old Harlow us our favourite pub and restaurant. The staff are always helpful and friendly. There is a good selection of beers and the bar snacks are very diverse and tasty Abbi was particularly friendly and helpful as was Dan who helped us choose the best drinks .

Ive just enjoyed a wonderful visit to this beautiful place. Enhanced by outstanding customer service. Daniel, Abbie and Louise take a bow you were brilliant and i will return.
