I've stayed at The Green Man several times for work trips. The rooms are clean and comfortable, and the team is always helpful and friendly. Last time, I accidentally booked the room for the wrong week, but Laura and Emily were incredibly helpful and kind. They quickly sorted everything out, and I was able to stay in a room that night! Thank you, ladies—you’re the best! I’ll definitely be back soon!"

Myself and three friends enjoyed delicious food, including excellent vegan fare served very professionally by Louise. We heartily recommend the Green Man.

If you eat at the bar you won't be brought any cutlery with your meal. You're just expected to know it's by the entrance door and go and get it yourself. I was asked if I would like any sauces, which then never arrived. It wasn't busy, but the staff clearly couldn't care less. Food was lukewarm and tasteless. It's a shame because the place is nice but the service and food let it down

In general it was good because of staff and efficiency. However lighting was hiding poor decoration and not very practical in the bathroom for shaving or putting contact lenses in. Shower sprays on the floor as set up badly.

Green Man is a very comfortable hotel set in the grounds of the pub with a good restaurant.

Lauren was lovely very kind and went the extra mile explained the menu and was very patient with us will definitely come again

Extremely unhappy. Served by 4 different waitress s. Main - turned up with no vegetables & Yorkshire. Had to wait & only got a Yorkshire pudding. Sweet menu poor too. Left unhappy. Won't return in near future.

We had lunch/dinner there today and found the staff and environment very pleasant although it was very busy. When booking you are asked for any requests and I requested a quiet area to sit in. We were initially sat next to a large table with a number of young children. When I asked for a quieter table we were seated elsewhere. We have nothing against children but when eating out as much as is possible we prefer a relaxing quiet table to be able to chat. The food was very good and served promptly, I ordered the shepherds pie which although very nice turned out to be a lamb shank on the bone covered in mash, I'm sorry that is not a shepherds pie. It would have been better with the lamb shank on the plate and potato next to it. I am sorry to sound like a grouch but to be charged over £4 for a glass of coke is extortionate. So to finish, staff lovely, venue good, food good. Why ask for requests if not acknowledged. I do understand when busy it is difficult but we were found a more suitable table.

Came into the greenman last night for a meal with my family, georgia was our waitress and she was an absolute delight! I ordered the fillet from the specials and it was incredible! The while atmosphere was so warm & welcoming and i will be returning!!

I've eaten here a few times as it is a fairly local place and it's always been ok. But today we had a late lunch and it was pretty dire. The service was patchy, good at times, less so at others but it was the food that really let the day down. The roasts were over done and dry, the veg was insipid wet mush that had no seasoning, my roast potatoes were tough on the outside and hollow in the middle. Even the giant Yorkshire's were a bit leathery. You could see everyone was trying their best but it just wasn't working out on the day.

Amazing Food! Took the family to our local for a Sunday lunch, didn’t book but was no problem. The menu has so much choice even on a Sunday (not just roasts) the half chicken was lovely and our waitress was so attentive but not intrusive. We will definitely be coming back to try their weekly specials.

I has been told the roasts were decent but the beef rib was awful. It has obviously been cooked then reheated too long as the crust was hard and nearly unbreakable and the meat that wasn't hard was dry and flavourless. What wasn't overcooked was bland and underseasoned. The staff must be so used to it that when they took my plate with virtually everything still on it they didn't ask if there was a problem.

Came today for a birthday meal,food was lovely,I had the steak and chips,was perfectly cooked,staff was friendly and service was excellent,nice clean establishment and was accommodating for us bringing the dog as we were seated out the way in a corner which made it a lot easier for us,dessert was also lovely Absolutely no complaints whatsoever,will definitely return

Had a lovely lunch, service was good. Great price. I booked a table in the bar area because I took my dog, great that doggies are welcome. My only gripe was that we were seated at the smallest table I've ever seen.

Overall this is a great place to stay, I highly recommend it. It took a while for the team to understand my dietary needs as I am a Coeliac, but they were very supporting. Special shout out to Natalia in the restaurant and Jenna in the accommodation who’s service is extremely high. Also the bar staff are great and the food is extremely good.

Very pleased with my stay in this hotel.

Staff were variable in terms of engagement and friendliness, some much better than others. Room was good, clean and well presented. Stingy on the milk pods (like most places). Evening meal was ok, tasty options and quick service, drinks served with too much ice to limit the actual drink volume. Breakfast was largely forgettable, clearly cooked to a budget albeit seemingly prepared to order rather than buffet. Same story as ice in the drinks really, all about providing the minimum to create margin. I would stay again and would eat there again, mainly because it is very convenient for where I need to be. Just don't expect anything outstanding, it's okay.

Stayed here this week for the first time with work and wanted to review as this place is absolute class!! The rooms are immaculate clean and the restaurant food is piping hot and tasty... All of the staff members i have met have gone above and beyond to help and made my weeks stay the best ever!!! The restaurant staff are friendly and helpful throughout your meal. Its a credit to Joe the (Owner manager) who you often see are the Green Man as i couldn't fault anything and highly recommend The green man hotel and restaurant you wont be disappointed one bit 👍

What a great pub! The Sunday Roast is incredible and served into the late evening. The portion size is colossal and the Yorkshire Puddings are big and crispy. I would highly recommend the Sticky Toffee Pudding. Service is faultless.

Great place for a drink and a meal

We regularly come for dinner and are never disappointed. Food is always lovely, portions are large but well worth it. Service is always great and fast. Sadie served our table of 2 for Valentine’s dinner, she was so lovely, welcoming and made sure we had everything we needed, thank you Sadie!

Really lovely pub, comfortable and friendly. Off the beaten track. The staff are all friendly, happy to help people. The actual pub is modern , warm and welcoming. Had our table from 2.30 until 6.30. Then had a good corner for drinks after dinner to continue the night. Drinks on point and the food was really good 👍 quality. Eight of us go for drinks and dinner at different places 4 times a year. Every one of us said the food and service was great. We would all definitely come back. We was served and looked after by Dan. Nothing was too much trouble. Really nice chap. 👌 Highly recommend this little gem. 😁

Food was pretty good but the service was really good. Me, the missus and the little one was really well looked after by Natalia in the restaurant and the hotel helped us massively by allowing us to check in early

Another great meal at the Green Man, thanks to Steph for looking after us in the restaurant, and also the bar staff, but if you are going for just a drink and bite to eat in the bar, I would check before you go in case they have a 'Wake' booked in as it gets very busy in the bar area

A colleague and myself stayed in the hotel as 'business guests'. On arrival, the receptionist greeted us and advised she wouldn't be long. A senior member of staff was providing some training / support. No issue at all, we all need to learn. We waited patiently for several minutes. We checked in and went to our rooms. Rooms are beautifully refurbished and have some really nice touches. I'd recommend not losing sight of the basics - high level dust and cobwebs, or shampoo in a conditioner bottle. We didn't fancy much on the menu, so we ate out at Bengal Cottage. We returned around 8PM and went for drinks on our pre-authorised allowance. This was easier said than done; the business isn't set up the same way as other mainstream hotels, where you provide your room number and its automatically charged and deducted from the respective payment method. Apparently, we were supposed to have a 'slip' when we checked in. We didn't. We weren't given any slip on check-in. So, off we went, back out of the pub and over to reception. Admittedly, the receptionist owned up to not providing and apologised. No problem - minor interference. We returned to the bar and ordered our first round of drinks. Upon completing the order, we were informed by the bar attendant that they were unable to track our spends. As a workaround, we obtained receipts for each purchase. Three rounds later, we returned to our rooms for the night. I personally thought the bed and pillows were quite hard, and that coming from someone who has a Simba. No sooner had I fallen asleep, I was woken by a slamming door. Fire doors are not supposed to slam shut, they're supposed to close firmly but quietly. I settled back down, before what sounded like the Silverstone race track and planes going overhead. The window was closed. This annoyance subsided and I finally fell asleep again. However, this was short lived and intermittent.The room was very warm and the knocking of the pipes disturbed my sleep for the remainder of the night. I decided to get up at 05:30. 7AM, my colleague and I went for our pre-authorised breakfast. Or so we thought. Host, rather unhelpfully, advised that she didn't have it on her list. We assured her, breakfast was included. Standing firm, the host wasn't able, or was unwilling to help resolve. We had to leave the dining area, return to the hotel reception, where the restaurant host advised that there might not be anyone there. They were correct, no one was there. We rang the bell. The next minute, the night receptionist appeared. He informed us he was also the chef and that we'd taken him away from the kitchen. Although, he wasn't wearing any chef whites. He asked if we had our evening meal allowance slip. This was in our rooms. He advised that we would need this. Up two flights of stairs, to retrieve our evening meal allowance slip??? Back over the the pub with slip in hand, knowing we'd already spent our allowance to evening before. We explained that the allowance showing was separate to our breakfast. The host accepted and took our order. I ordered eggs benedict. Never ever had them hard before, but today, they were hard boiled! Part the way through our breakfast, the host appeared with the senior member of staff. We were quizzed again about our business allowance and booking details. It's a poor state of affairs when the hotel / pub can't get their ducks in a row. It's a relatively simple process, with explicit instructions from the booking agent. What compounded matters more, was staff unwilling to help resolve, yet entirely willing to have guests going backwards and forwards because they failed to deliver the very basic guest service. Overall, a rather disappointing experience. Think we will still to the bigger chain hotel brands.

The pub is really cozy and the food was really good. Our waitress Louise was also very nice and made sure that everything was alright.

It has a lovely looking interior and exterior, able to park easily, atmosphere was relaxing, staff were great and helpful.

Held a birthday gathering here and the staff were really helpful, really effecient and service was good and fast. Our server was Lucy and she was very attentive to everyone's needs. Place is quaint and lovely and food and drink are amazing!

Stayed overnight for burns night. Room so lovely, warm, clean, lovely little touches, in room, coffee/biscuits and chocolate... Burn night menu such good value 4 course, food really good, hot tasty and great service. Fab breakfast. Pub a lovely friendly atmosphere... Good weekend recommend this stay restaurant, room excellent

I had a great work stay here, the decor is beautifully classical and the room was comfortable. I would give 5 stars but the only small issues I experienced were hard pillows, and a leaking shower. The team was incredibly welcoming.

Stopped here for a relaxing Friday evening supper and were greeted as old friends by the Lovely Janna and served with great efficiency by our friendly waitress Lucy.

Served today by Louise who looked after us very well. Always service with a smile and friendly atmosphere. We had a starter and main both of which we thoroughly enjoyed. Looking forward to our next visit.

One of a few very good pubs and hotel that allows dogs

I would highly recommend a visit to the Green Man Old Harlow. Lovely food, lovely atmosphere and a lovely waitress (Sophia). Couldn’t fault it.

The staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating, would 100% recommend! Louise remembered our order and brought it over when it was ready. Joe and the rest of the team strive to make the pub a family and relaxing atmosphere.

It didn't start to well, there were plenty of empty tables, we were seated on a small table where my chair was touching another customers chair, another couple's table was right behind my partner's table. We were all bunched together with everyone talking over each other with no chance of a private conversation. We asked to be moved. Then everything was fine

We as a family met there after my mums funeral. We had to have the breakfast options and there was no room for manoeuvre. There were 18 of us. Most of us ordered English breakfast. Extra toast also ordered. We were not made aware that 1 portion of toast was half a slice of bread? This wasn’t acceptable. My elderly dad also asked the waitress for his coffee as he thought she had forgotten. She replied “I’ve only got 1 pair of hands!! “ I was mortified and pulled her up on her response. My dad has Alzheimer’s so gets confused. We paid out a lot of money that day and staff were also trying to dismantle Xmas decorations whilst we were eating and chatting in the area we were seated in. No compassion or common sense considering we informed them why we were there. We all left after paying the extortionate bill and will not be returning. No one serving at the bar either.

The wake following my mother’s funeral was held at The Green Man. They laid on a super spread, the atmosphere was lovely, cosy and relaxed. Thank you so much for everything. The Green Man was my mum’s favourite place for a meal, she would have loved it.

We had a lovely meal here on Saturday 4th Jan. The service was good. The food delicious (although a little pricey). However, I was concerned when I saw a mouse run across the restaurant floor. It disappeared under the unit where the waiters/waitresses greeted people and where we paid. I kept an eye out for it but didn't see it again. I reported it and hope that they will do something about it. It was a little disconcerting though. But the food was nice and the service excellent!

Visited twice before Christmas for a meal and drinks with friends. In both cases it was an enjoyable experience. No complaints.

Went for an evening meal the service was terrible . Waitress kept bringing up the wrong drinks. She then dropped sauces on the floor when clearing table and never returned to clear it up so done it myself with tissues The pudding was disgusting and i ask to have it taken off the bill which was refused . Will never go back Following on from the above we was served by two waitresses . The pudding I ordered was apple tart and was clearly microwaved too long as was soggy and falling apart Our vegetables were served hard and not nice . The mash looked liked it had been dropped on the plate from a great height .

Went here for a meal to treat my nana before returning home to northern ireland. The service was fantastic from start to finish and the food was amazing and big portions. We had a 2 course from the Christmas menu and everything was perfectly cooked! Thank you!

Table was too small for 4 adults. The staff struggled to place our food on the table. Making it a very poor experience. The table was only suitable for two. We couldn’t wait to leave, and find another pub to sit and enjoy drinks after.

Darcy and all the staff helped make my Dad's birthday a great meal, the service was excellent and the food was delicious and hot. 100% recommended.

This is a really nice pub with great food options, I'm vegan and didn't expect so many options! We were served by Darcy who was sooo friendly and lovely! We had a baby with us so asked for various bits and bobs, and Darcy went above and beyond to accommodate us. Unfortunately we left in a rush and didn't realise the bill didn't include a tip! We're very sorry Darcy because you deserved a big one! From the 4 girls who lunched on Saturday with the baby :)

Myself and my family attended the pub for my grandparents 50th wedding anniversary, it was a lovely evening. Our server Georgia was absolutely lovely, especially having to deal with a large group of us - she created such a warm and friendly environment, we cannot thank her enough. We all LOVED our food and are looking forward to coming back another time!
