The Hare and Hounds in Craven

You'll be sure of a warm welcome, and fantastic, filling food. We went here for dinner when staying in the village. You need to book as it gets busy. We don't have any photos of the food as we made it disappear quite rapidly. Only quibble I would have is if you're vegetarian you'll have limited choices but otherwise a good all round pub, with lovely log burners and friendly staff.

Wow , what an incredible place . So welcoming , and the food - amazing! Even our dog that was welcome got given a few treats . Highly recommend

Visited the Hare & Hounds yesterday (Friday) for a late lunch. A friendly welcome from a gentleman who gave us the bad news that there were unfortunately no tables available inside at that time but he could have one for us about an hour later. Perfect 😊 a drink in their lovely beer garden before lunch! I would definitely recommend that you try and book if you can to avoid disappointment. Nice selection on the menu. I opted for salt and pepper haloumi fries and fish, chips and mushy peas (a fellow diner had just highly rated them) and my friend had the paprika mushrooms and pil pil king prawns - everything was lovely. Freshly cooked and tasty, quality produce that was well cooked. The service from all staff was excellent throughout our visit - really friendly, welcoming and attentive. Thank you to all. We will definitely be back!

Just had the most fabulous food here for lunch. Really well run establishment with food to die for. Def on my list to come back to.

Amazing staff, especially the main guy, he helped make the celebration a day to remember. A great atmosphere and good food and drink added, making it a fantastic day to remember for us all.

We have been to the H&H’s several times now after the manager sadly moved from our local pub to run the H&H. On every occasion the food and service has been exceptional. The menu is wide and varied with specials and a children’s menu. We loved the little touches to the table - dog biscuits and dog rugs and children’s games to keep our youngest entertained. All the staff were excellent at taking our order and adhering to our personal requirements, not always easy when the atmosphere (on this evening) was busy. The food was excellent and we all enjoyed both mains and desserts, so much so that we were already arranging our next visit before the end of the meal. Well done to all the staff for their excellent hospitality on a bank holiday.

We turned up for lunch but as it was a last minute decision, we hadn’t booked but were made to feel very welcome and a table found for us. The food was very good- shared the seafood platter as a starter plus the two prawn dishes- then we had both a main from the light menu (although by this point we were very full). I blame my brother as he wants to try all food when he is back from New Zealand. The staff were very good and regularly checked to make sure we were ok and if we needed anything else. I will definitely be back as I live fairly local. Both the inside and outside areas were lovely.

A lovely pub / presentation, great location, good food, delightful staff. Good choose of beers and wines, varied menu including daily specials. Lovely garden. Highly recommend.

Cracking village pub, one of my favourite local pubs to visit. Food is always top notch and their well kept ale is always spot on! Great outdoor spaces front and back when the weather is warm. Dog friendly too! Always a warm welcome.

Lovely food as usual at our go to venue for dependable quality food at a reasonable price. The special pork schnitzel was tasty and different….a nice alternative from the main menu. All staff were efficient and friendly with both courses served in a timely manner. The main menu provides ample choice to keep us coming back and the changing specials demonstrate innovation from the chef .

We ordered two lager and limes which came with no lime. Two out of three of the maincourse specials were no longer available so ordered Linguine. It wasn't great and dripping with oil, tasted like it had been re-heated perhaps, but there were plenty of large prawns. The starter of Kofta was fine, the other maincourse of roast cod/chard/potatoes was also very oily and chorizo rock hard. The crispy ham things were fine. Both maincourses left pools of oil behind after they were eaten, I had to hold onto the knife and fork supplied for my starter to eat my maincourse with as no others were brought to the table. Whoever served us was polite, the waitress asked how the meal was, I showed her the pools of oil left over and she said she'd see what could be done about it. Nothing was done. You might wonder why we ate it. Well we we starving after waiting for so long for it to arrive and you do wonder (in general) what they do to your replacement dishes when you send them back. Also when you go to eat out you expect to be able to order what is on the menu and eat good food for this price, if it needs to go back to the kitchen to have another dish made then there is something wrong. It shouldn't take two tries. You have one job to do and can't manage it.... As we are local we'd hoped for better so we could return again and again, but won't be. It seems that this corner of Yorks and moreover Lancs is sadly lacking in decent eateries, the closest decent one being The Emmott Arms which has small, expensive, but good dishes on the menu. (Unless things have changed recently at the Alma it's terrible, Black Lane Ends Tavern not much better ).

Went today as on holiday in the area had a platter between the 2 of us nicely presented and very tasty.didnt have desserts as the platter was very filling .

Met up with some family for a meal. We all enjoyed it and overall fir was good. Two of us had steak and ale pie which was very good. I'm only marking it down as the chips weren't fully cooked. Which was a pity. However this is a cracking pub. Very friendly and my cousin lived the 70s music.

We booked for my wife’s birthday after being recommended by several people. The H&H did not disappoint, the pub itself is lovely and set in the picturesque village of Lothersdale. The staff were all really friendly and attentive to everyone, the food was superb from starter to dessert. I’m more than happy to pass on the recommendation given to myself to others, book in advance though.

We booked the H&H for my husband's 60th birthday, and even though we often eat here, we wanted to take our family & knew we wouldn't be disappointed. We certainly weren't. All our food was delicious, imaginatively presented, and served hot & and at the appropriate time. Some of our party had 3 courses, which ranged from asparagus starters, meat platters, homemade chicken Kiev, fish pie, and desserts & lovely Affragato coffee. The staff, as always, were extremely friendly and helpful and nothing too much trouble. Thank you, H&H, for making a special birthday very special. Highly recommended

The H&H is a perfect place to relax and dine with friends. I visited today with my friend to celebrate her birthday. It was our first visit to The H&H and it was a very pleasant and memorable experience. We received a very warm welcome from all of the staff who were really friendly and extremely attentive. We dined on the special of the day ...lamb cutlets in a blackcurrant jus served with vegetables and creamy mash. The food was well presented and absolutely delicious. The lamb cutlets were beautifully cooked and very tender. The blackurrant jus complemented the lamb perfectly and the vegetable accompaniments were fresh and al dente- just as they should be. Clearly there's a talented chef in this pub - thank you. An especially kind touch was when our host presented a complimentary sticky toffee pudding to my friend, complete with birthday candle (and song!) to acknowledge her special day. How kind that was. We would highly recommend The H&H and hope to return again soon.

Lunch at the Hare and Hounds is a pleasure. We’ve been there 4 times before and since Christmas and each meal was excellent. Lovely atmosphere and very friendly staff who greet you with a very warm welcome. We are looking forward to going again.

Food took forever to arrive. Arrived at 6:50 didn’t eat till 7:40. I understand it was busy but was even tempted to buy a bag of crisps as we waited that long . Was really looking forward to the meal as was recommended by someone else and was really disappointed. I can hand on heart say I cook better myself at home so £62 for a dry meal. Was definitely not worth it. I don’t feel like they take criticism well, no discount offered. Which would be the standard thing to do as you’d want customers to return, we definitely will not be returning.

Really disappointed. We had this pub highly recommended but will not go back or recommend it to others. The food was very nice but one of the dishes was not correctly ordered by the staff. It was put right but meanwhile I sat there on my own eating, not the best experience. Despite us saying that the correct food was good but our experience not, no recompense was offered at all. We will not return.

We were staying across the road in an airbnb for a birthday treat so it was very handy to have the pub across the road. We went twice during our stay and we had the best food on the 1st night. The steak was delicious and perfectly cooked. The lamb hot pot with black pudding was nice. The second night was OK.... the fish pie wasn't great. Hardly any fish in it and needed seasoning and was mostly mashed potato..... The service was fab though. Good atmosphere.

Absolutely loved this gem of a pub. We nipped in on the first night for a few drinks and immediately found the staff so friendly and attentive. We had a fantastic birthday meal for myself on the second evening and have just left having had a few more this evening. Highly recommend to friends and family upon our return home.

Food lovely but service by two extremely unexperienced waitresses let this pub down. No eye contact no asking anything other than what do you want to eat or drink. No service at all except from an obviously experienced waiter who did give eye contact and spread a needed warmth. They need to get a little more service in this place for us to go back

How absolutely amazing - the staff pulled out all the stops for our family Christmas gathering and the atmosphere and food were nothing short of perfect. This is most definitely the future of our entertaining friends and family! Huge thanks to you all, see you again very soon!

very dissapointed we all had fish&chips,big mistake so called (large) haddok @ £17 well very small compared to lotts of pubs and the chips looked as though they had been boiled! awful soory to say its not good .But a realy nice place and lovely sfaff

Has every ingredient for the quintessential country pub & in all the right measures . One of those rare places that you want to keep to yourself but equally share with others . Staff are brilliant , ambience + surroundings great , menu varied & so far every single item sampled off it has been faultless with decent selection of real ales . This was our first time at H&H, went with friends, had a warm welcome, our precooked table had comfy mats for our two dogs who were spoilt with TLC and treats. The food was fantastic, we each had a different meal and dessert, all were thoroughly enjoyed and the price was very reasonable. Plan to come back many times if it’s always this good.

Visited for a friend's birthday, and had a delicious meal again (our third visit, not our last!) with very friendly service. The new menu had just started - so no lamb kebabs for me this time, but made up for it with chicken kebab, while friends had Lancashire hotpot and gammon steak. Beautifully cooked vegetables, always a good sign. Highly recommended, and a lovely situation too.

We had a lovely evening at this very welcoming pub. The food was excellent. I had the Cajun chicken burger with hand cut chips which was very tasty and my husband had the special which was lamb and black pudding hotpot. He said it was delicious. We shared a lovely Bakewell tart and custard for desert. The service was excellent, even giving out little dog a cushion to lounge on. Extra drinks and the bill were anticipated and brought as soon as we asked but we were in no way rushed, being allowed as long as we wanted between courses. I would highly recommend this place.

Having been a few times over the past couple of years and found the food to be very good, was slightly disappointed this time round. Chips were hard, in fact very hard, gravy not as good as on previous occasions, seemed like cheap granules where previously it was really tasty. Appreciate should have said something at the time, but didn't. Not sure if there has been a change of ownership, but it was certainly of a lower standard than previous visits. Will go again as could have been a one off, and it is still a lovely pub to visit.
