Bay Horse in Craven

Ordered two steaks which were very good and cooked exactly to preference, one pizza which again was as expected. Unfortunately, we also ordered one “pie of the day” which was a steak pie. It came looking like half a football. The puff pastry overwhelmed the true extent of disappointment to follow. The quantity of pie filling just wasn’t there, probably two or three ounces of meat in the bottom of an almost empty pie dish. With one drink each the total cost was over £120.00 So we will not be returning any time soon.

This pub has a great canal side location which is great for walks in the area. Food is good pub fare and staff are very friendly.

I ordered the haddock, chips and mushy peas, the wife had the home made fishcakes with a hollandaise sauce and potatoes etc, both meals were absolutely fantastic. I honestly have to say it was the best fish and chips i have ever had. The fish was succulent, perfectlt cooked in a dry crispy home made beer batter, the chips were triple cooked, soft in the middle and crispy on the outside. The homemade fishcakes were superb and although i personally did not taste them the wife was delighted with them which is a first!! Anyway folks next time in skipton we will definitely be eating here again, a lovely pub by the canalside with a great selection of beers and wines etc. Noticed the people on the tables near us were also singing about their meals, they had some kind of burgers but not sure which, only know they were also very pleased. Well done to the bay horse.

The Bay Horse is very near to The Skipton Hotel, right alongside the Leeds Liverpool Canal. I would strongly recommend eating and having a drink at The Bay Horse as opposed to the Skipton Hotel. Food was superb served by efficient and friendly staff. In particular Arleta, Sophie and Otto.

The fish and chips were less favourable as the batter was thick and stoggy, not crispy at all. Perhaps frozen batter? A fresh batter would be better. A nice family environment and service was good. Our modest expectations were surpassed in all respects for this place. From the time of our booking to the welcoming arrival and subsequent departure all was attentive and well executed by all at the front of house, the chef and his team. The menu was varied, interesting, perfectly cooked and presented within a comfortable and characterful environment. The choice of ales and wines were more than adequate and reasonably priced. An enjoyable evening that contrasted notably with the dining experience of the night before at the neighbouring Rendezvous Hotel.

Had a midweek lunch here with a friend and although we are local, this is not somewhere we would normally think to visit. The food was tasty, (we had a fish finger sandwich and the roasted veg and beetroot wrap), and the service was prompt and efficient. The dining areas are pleasant and well presented, but we also liked being able to move to a smaller area with comfy settees for our coffees (which were served with a small square of very yummy flapjack!) The beauty of meeting here was the large car park, compared to meeting in town and paying to park. We would definitely return.

Eleven of us visited The Bay Horse for a meal. Fortunately We had booked as unfortunately other customers arriving on spec were not able to get tables. This was partly due to a problem with staff - some of whom I later learned, had suddenly left earlier the same day. The fact that I didn’t notice this at first was testament to the professionalism of the staff who remained. They were all hard working polite & efficient. So there was just one chef in the kitchen & 3 or 4 waiting staff. All of whom were smiling non stop. I can only guess what might have taken place earlier in the day. The 11 generously proportioned meals served were enjoyed by all and there was a good range of tasty & well presented meal options, including vegetarian & vegan. Also the deserts that some still had room for were excellent. The pub looks tired and scruffy round the edges. Carpets are vey worn & paintwork is damaged. Like most well used licensed premises it has an unmistakable aroma of spilt drinks & food from many past meals that is probably impossible to mask so I’d think a refurbishment would be the only way to remove this. Nevertheless the pub was busy and drinks & meals not too expensive. It has a warm & cheerful atmosphere. Certainly not as expensive as other pubs & restaurants I’ve been to. So on balance I’d give it a good rating. The one thing I don’t like is intruding loud background music. Why so do many hostelries think they should have piped music ? Rarely is it music that I or other customers would listen from choice.

We have visited the Bay Horse about 7 times now over the last 15 months or so. Visits have always been during the week and early to mid afternoon. Never had a bad meal or bad service. We usually wait till we get an e mail sent through giving discounts on main meals. Got one sent recently offering 40% off main meals Monday to Thursday. So on Wednesday 13/09/23 three of us decided to pop over for some lunch. From the mains menu we ordered one sirloin steak, cooked medium. One ribeye, well done, and I ordered the Lamb duo, cooked pink. All meats were cooked as requested and every piece was tender and full of flavour. All 3 of us really enjoyed our meals. With the discount applied we saved £24.90. This means you are getting a really good 8oz Sirloin steak for under £11.00. You cannot complain at that. Service has always been good here no matter who is working. Unfortunately I didn’t get the name of the lady who first served us today. But she has served us before and has always been friendly and efficient. When her shift finished Arleta took over. Again she has served us previously and service has always been impeccable. Both servers are friendly and really make you feel welcome and that your custom is valued. I just wish a few more establishments had staff as good at their jobs as these two. I have seen some reviews saying the place is a bit run down and needs a refurb. Maybe some feel that but we have never had any issues with it. The Bay Horse more than meets our needs. It has huge car park with disabled bays. Anyone with mobility issues or using a wheelchair should have few problems getting into the pub and finding a suitable table. It might be advisable to book a table in advance though at busier times to ensure you do get one on the level as to get to some tables you do need to negotiate some steps. Every time we have been it’s been very clean and tidy. Tables are always quickly cleared and wiped down. As long as we keep getting the discounts sent through via e mail we will keep dining here. It’s worth the fairly long drive out knowing we will get great food and excellent service at a reasonable price.

Sat outside, perfect weather weather wise and so was the meal. My Italian fussy husband couldn’t fault the lasagna. Too hot for beef and wine pie but couldn’t resist it and wasn’t disappointed, delicious as was crème brûlée.

We went for an evening Sunday dinner. The food tasted decent enough, but wasn't fresh or hot enough. The parsnips were hard and the sirloin of beef wasn't the best quality.

The bay horse snaygill is a gem. The staff are amazing happy helpful and friendly. The food is delicious delivered hot and today, theres so much choice. The location is lovely. We especially love Arieta and Derek and the staff all of them are just fantastic. They really care. The place feels like home they welcome you remember you make you feel special. Today we ate again everything was perfect. The whole dining experience in a pub is flawless. Its spotless too. We actually drive from Huddersfield' an hour away to just eat here and see the staff they never disappoint i want to adopt them all. My family love it here they always want to eat here when we are going to boundry Mill its the perfect finish to a shopping day. 10/10 every time Arieta Thank-you so much.
