We go to The Harbour Inn every time we stay at our home in Lyme and this month was such a disappointment!! The service was awful … the teenage waiting staff were to busy on the phones or chatting to each other to even acknowledge us enter the premises. Once seated we had no one come back to the table for 15 mins to order drinks …. Again to busy chatting at the kitchen door entrance. The food used to be fantastic and this time was awful . Not only did it taste terrible the presentation was unpleasant. Garlic bread soaked in oil and soup was bland ! Plus a bread basket with 4 small cuts of breads but 5 butters between 3 soups … No one checked if our food was ok and we’re weren’t asked if we wished to have more drinks . There is no WiFi at this premises either !! Honestly such a disappointing experience from previous times !

11 friends for fish and chips at lunch time. Booked for the location in Lyme Regis and from previous reviews and experience. 8 out of the 11 had fish and chips. The fish was amazing, perfectly cooked and excellent quality. Service was fast and served with a smile. Those not having fish and chips had the pulled pork and were equally complimentary on quality. Would certainly recommend the Harbour Inn for fish and chips. Do not be fooled by the size of the fish - the quality and depth of flavour was amazing.

We booked dinner here - and were glad we had, as they were having to turn people away. I'm not surprised they are so popular, as the food is head & shoulders above usual pub grub. I had amazing prawn & lobster fish cakes and my partner had the hake. Both excellent & great value.

Excellent Sunday lunch with family and friends. Great to find somewhere that serves a roast on a Sunday in the summer for the Sunday roast lovers in the family. Great fresh fish options too - I had the Bouillabaisse which was really delicious and a good portion. Others had fish cakes and fish pie, all enjoyed. Great service and good value. A good wine selection and beer. I did book in advance as we visited on the bank holiday weekend.

This is the second time I have eaten Lobster here and was not disappointed. The staff are excellent and the wine reasonable price (makes a difference) so choosing the special lobster was within budget. I have been disappointed at other places with lobster so enquired re the weight and the chef took the time to come and show me which was really impressive. We had it cold with salad and the quality and quantity excellent but the preparation amongst the best I have seen. No messing with crackers or skewers it was all done for me. Will be back !!

Weekday lunch with family; service was pleasant, food pretty poor. Very small (half portion?!) sized Cod and chips, kids portion size even smaller - would be more suited to an under 5s menu. Grease pooling on the plate, very bland in flavour. Bouillabase was not a bouillabase; tomato passata, heavy on the herbs, not a touch of fish stock. One prawn and a couple of mussels. Very sad meal at exorbitant prices.

We visited as two couples, for Dinner in June. We had booked earlier on the day of our visit. The restaurant had a busy atmosphere. The menu was varied, providing a good variety with a significant proportion of fresh fish dishes. The food when it arrived, was of a good standard and served by friendly attentive staff. Prices were pretty reasonable and as such provided acceptable value for money. A cut above standard seaside fare.

Great position right on the beach front. Food was okay but nothing special. A fish pie and Gurnard “catch of the day” were fine. Fish and chips, which you would expect to be done well in this location, was disappointing. Chips were clearly a bought in product and not good quality, the fish was greasy and heavy. The staff were willing enough, but didn’t seem to have much of a clue. Not their fault, just an inexperienced team with a lack of training. Shame as the location deserves better. I will say it was very busy, which is normally a good sign, perhaps we were just unlucky.

we visited and my wifes meal was fine, she enjoyed it. However I ordered ribeye steak at 21 pounds. was a treat. Well I have had ribeye steak before and this was a thin, cheap steak. Didnt even look like a ribeye steak. Also a few peas would have been nice and not cost much! Just steak and chips on a plate, not even a salad garnish, For the price it was a terrible dish. sorry as I like the pub but this meal was awful.

My wife, her brother, his husband and me, thought we would have a nice meal out on our weekend in Lyme Regis.3 crab cakes ordered, tasteless, expensive and probably better to get them at the local chip shop. Whereas cheesy garlic bread for £4.80 was well overpriced for my 2 slices. So, for mains, Fish pie with seasonal vegetables, which is actually microwaved slop with salad. I would suggest they change their supplier and may be get some Birds eye fish pies in. Belly pork would have been just about passable if a toddler had made it.Steak and chips with peppered sauce for £20, involved under cooked frozen chips, over cooked steak and teaspoon of sauce on the steak. Unfortunately, no tomatoes, no salad, no vegetables. Nobody asked if the dinner was ok until we had all finished, at which point I had eaten maybe half the steak, and perhaps 3 chips. I explained that I was extremely disappointed with the steak and frozen chips. At which point the waitress told me they are not frozen and that they would not do anything about it. We then had to have a stand-up argument with her about the chips - she did not want to try one - and I do not blame her.Off she popped and came back after talking to her boss, I had obviously upset them by pointing out their short comings, so in her incredibly stroppy manner said I could have £3.50 off the bill for the chips. I thought it may be best to talk to the manager. An angry man came out to tell me, that knocking £3.50 off th bill was more than fair and he would bring me the bill. I explained to him that customer service might involve an apology that we were not happy and offering to do something for us may calm the situation down. He responded quite negatively to this and sent his bouncer out to sit by us and bang about on the table to make his presence known.I went to the bar and explained that I am now fed up with this farce, so give me the bill and I will knock off the price for the steak dinner and pay for everything else. This involved a further stand-up argument in the restaurant, while most of the customer watched and laughed. This went on for at least 10 minutes. When I finally got the bill off him, I paid as I had promised £120 for 4 of us, not including the steak. So not cheap, the food is not worth the money, but worst off all is the attitudes of the waitress and the manager. I suggest you do yourselves a favour and do not bother with this place unless you want an argument.

My wife had southern fried mackerel fillets to start followed by their own home made fish pie both of which she said were truly delicious. I had a mixed salad followed by the best bouillabaisse I've ever had, full of different fish and seafoods. The service was very welcoming, friendly and professional and we cannot wait to return. This is a well located pub-restaurant on the sea front. However, because of the coronavirus restrictions everybody were eating outside and we did not enjoy people smoking on the table next to us, particularly while eating. I appreciate that it is an outside area, but in all the other restaurants we have been to, this has not been a problem, as smoking has not been allowed in the eating area. Regarding the food, the fish and chips was descent, the fish pie was poor with lack of fish and flavour, and the Harbour inn bouillabaisse was terrible, it only tasted as canned tomato purée. Do not recommend it.

Visited here for a pleasant drink Friday night and based on other reviews decided to eat Sunday evening. Service was ok but then slowed considerably and had to ask for the bill twice - however food was not great quality. Very strange fish platter (prawn and lobster cocktail which tasted very sweet!! Mackerel tempura greasy/oily, crab - watery and icy, smoked fish (think it was salmon couldn’t tell) stringy and magenta - not mentioned on menu, then was a couple of pieces of poached salmon in cold tasteless rubbery pastry and a grey salty smoked mackerel pate. This was accompanied by bread and those horrible foil wrapped pats of Irish butter. My partner ate a nuked fish pie which he said was basic to say the least and only partly contained local fresh fish, and which came with salad and mass produced coleslaw. Very disappointing. Sorry but we won’t be back.

This is probably now the third or fourth time we have had dinner at the Harbour Inn and it always lives up to expectations. Its situated right on the harbour front and the window seats look out past the outside seating and bar across to the harbour. As always the reception is a warm one and the seating and staff completely adhered to the COVID policies. The menu is based around local produce and the staff are always very willing to help with any questions about the menu. My wife (as always) went for the mussels to start and steak for main. My wife likes her steak cooked well, and unlike some restaurants she did not feel judged when requesting this and the chef cooked it exactly to her liking. I went for the Ahi Tuna ceviche for my starter which was light but packed full of flavour and the Lyme Bay Hake, which was delicious. The staff were attentive without being pushy and once more we had a lovely timme. The Harbour Inn menu is reasonably priced and I can easily recommend it.

Visited here on recommendation of Jay, of local eco taxis, that was also spot on service. Enjoyed the whole experience, I had the scallops, fried fish Bon Bon’s, with katsu and vedg. I wanted something special and this delivered on presentation, quality produce and flavour. Thanks chief. The wife had the basic lasagna.......that could never be described as basic. Excellent again. Waitress was friendly and professional. She was happy for us to sit in early, with a beer, prior to ordering at 12.00. Glad we did, there was a que when we left at 1.30. Don’t walk past this gem

Sunshine in October so a busy esplanade. One person in need of lunch. I found just the place, an efficient welcome, a clean hostelry and a reasonable priced menu. Yes I gave my home details but I was not over burdened with giving them at the entrance. I found the service and food up to the mark and recommend this place.

Great position on the beach. Had a lovely late lunch, crab sandwich with a nice bottle of white. Felt COVID safe.

Interested to see a few poor reviews from Sept 2020. We ate at the Harbour Inn a few days ago and had great food and good service. The bouillabaisse was rich and intense and my wife thoroughly enjoyed the fish pie. Service was friendly and attentive without being intrusive.

I visited Lyme Regis with a friend in September, we were very excited about going here for dinner after spending the afternoon doing a wonderful walk to Beer and back. We ordered the fish stew and Monkfish Risotto. The Fish stew arrived in a small bowl, the flavours were bland, the fish overcooked, nothing at all special. The monkfish was dreadful, totally overcooked, it tasted like cardboard. The risotto was a small pile of mush, no flavours no taste at all to this dish and the cheek to charge a price of £22.00 for this crap ? what a rip off. I complained to the manager whom made a comment that the dish had been served to many people that day, that all the monkfish came from the same batch and no one else had complained. I was taken back by her approach, she didnt listen to my criticism, complete dismissive. In the end as a reluctant gesture she took the cost of 2 glasses of wine off the bill. To think this restaurant has been recommended by square meal? Lyme Regis is a beautiful small town which is in dire need of a good fish restaurant, which is tragic considering its a proper fishing port.

Firstly, the food was very good-no complaints there. Perhaps a little overpriced, but delicious nonetheless.I can’t say that we felt very welcomed though. I booked a table for 2 for 6pm, on the phone there was no mention that the table had to be given back at a certain time. So we both had starters, mains and shared a bottle of wine and weren’t in a huge rush to finish because we were chatting and enjoying being out!I started to feel a bit unwelcome when I overheard the male waiter/owner/whatever say loud enough for me to hear “they had a 6pm booking-they’re taking the piss now”. I can only assume they were talking about us. The time was about 7.45 by now.My fiancé went to the loo, and I was then ‘given the bill respectfully because they had another table booked’.I fully appreciate that maybe there are 2 sittings, but rather than be made to feel like you’re a nuisance, it might be better in future to explain when making a booking that the table needs to be back by a certain time.

This was a meal of two halves sadly. I had the chicken dish which was great, nice and moist and crispy perfect chips. The wife had the monk fish and risotto dish, the monk fish was over cooked and rubbery, the risotto was over cooked stodge . We made staff aware who sadly didn’t care and made no effort to rectify. This meal was £21 and only when reminding staff of the half eaten meal did we get a miserly reduction of £3. Disappointed with the experience overall.

We booked a table for our anniversary lunch. The staff were friendly and hard working and were very observant of the new Covid rules. The food was delicious and the views of Lyme Bay were lovely.

We should have seen the signs when our table was 25 minutes late and they hadn’t given a menu to read in this time, nor taken a drinks order. The food was good, nothing exceptional, and princely, but was massively let down by the panicked and poor service, which had this been week 1 of “Covid-release” would have been acceptable but 2 months in are no longer. Things which were particularly frustrating: food order taking 20 minutes (when already having waited 25, when most of the menu is on display); staff continuously disappearing - for 10 minutes at a time; substituting part of a main course without telling us (we overheard the table next to us being told after we had ordered!); we are still waiting for water for the table; upon us finally loosing patience and asking for the bill, the waiter then proceeded to clear the table next to us via multiple trips before going to fetch our bill. Such a contrast to the lovely meal we had the day before at the Millside - go there instead. They have got a handle on the new processes now required, the Harbour Inn does not.

We had a wonderful experience sitting right on the beach with great service(thanks Jeremy) the mussels were some of the best I have ever had and great to experience all the local seafood however someone in our group had the steak and suffered from severe D&V and put a bit of a negative spin on what would of been a lovely meal! So it’s definitely a place to eat just stick to the seafood.

Booked this place based on reviews, and very glad we did. Seafood of the highest order, perfectly cooked and expertly served by friendly staff. The bouillabaisse at £17 was a steal, top drawer cooking and presentation. Will definitely come again.

The outside dining area appealed, for obvious pandemic-related reasons and also for the view of the sea and the chance to watch the world go by. The menu offered plenty of delicious options, and when our choices arrived they were well-presented, beautifully cooked and the fish was clearly fresh. Friendly service from the staff, coping well with all the extra work required for Covid sanitisation, also added to the enjoyment

We were glad to be able to book a 5:30pm slot on Sunday as they were really busy. We went straight to the mains of seafood platter and monkfish, followed by cheese and biscuits and creme brulee. All very well presented, fresh tasting and delicious. Staff attentive and helpful. Will definitely be back.

We have eaten at The Harbour Inn several times. We ate there at the beginning of August. They had put all the necessary Safety Regulations in place to make you feel comfortable. The service is good and swift. I have ordered the Sea Food platter several times and am never disappointed. It’s a feast. My husband has tried the fish pie and it looks as though it’s packed with a variety of different fish in a lovely creamy sauce. We have friends living in Lyme who regularly eat at The Harbour Inn. Highly recommended.

Had lunch here on a Monday in August, ate inside with tables well spaced out but the place seemed quite drab. All opted for sandwiches or baguettes and all were ok. Nothing amazing. When trying to pay via AMEX to make use of their shop small offer we were told they cannot take AMEX as they’ve got new card machines. Seems odd that they are advertised on the shop small website and their bill wallets are branded with AMEX. £10 off the bill would have given them an extra star on this review!

I made a booking ages ago and on the day the traffic was horrific. Phoned a couple of times and when we arrived there was still a table! The mussels were excellent and a young lad, Jeremy, doing temporary work made sure we had a really good day. Would definitely recommend but you need to book.

Sunday evening meal. After much deliberation and searching we decided that this place seemed a popular place to eat. And with patience and persistence we found a table and it was well worth the wait. The bouillabaisse recommended by William the waiter, was a great choice. The scallops special also hit the mark. William knee his stuff and his knowledge of the food on the menus helped us with our choices. May try and return before we go back home.

Booked the night before, made very welcome on arrival. The selection of food was very good and we did not have long to wait for the meals to arrive which was good as we were very hungry. The meal was first rate and we all enjoyed the food and drinks. Would certainly recommend "The George" if you are visiting West Bay.

Very disappointed with some meals.Fish pie was good. Roast lamb was tough. Plaice was nice but very small. Vegetables were just boring boiled. Staff were friendly, speed of service was good. A nice log fire too. We will not return due to the food

It's situated in the middle of Bridport with plenty of parking nearby . It is convenient to the harbour and antique centre . however, it is a pleasant place to sit in but not ideal for a business meeting. The menu is limited but OK for a quick snack

Since my last review on Costa Coffee, Copper Street, Brewery Square, Dorchester the management has changed. The Store Manager there at the moment isn’t nothing like the last one. She has been late several times wen she is supposed to be there on time, turns up wen she feels like it, relies on other members of staff to do her job for her, cuts staff hours, gets members of staff to train trainees wen she should be doing it. If, she’s not committed to do her job properly, she shouldn’t be the Store Manager. Bring in someone who interacts with the customers, friendly, and invites the customers back. Very disappointed in Costa this time round, the Area Manager should consider the next Store Manager.
