This is now called Georges but is still a chip shop. The staff are cheerful and happy to help and meet your requirements. I went on Saturday to buy fish, chicken, savaloys and chips for a number of us and asked for the sothern fried chicken amongst other things and had quite a long wait as it was freshly cooked for me. When I got home with the food it was all piping hot and we had a nice meal. The portions are quite large and you will know that you have had a feast when you are finished. Well done can't wait to visit again when we wre in Billericay.

Have been here a few times now. Staff very friendly. The food is nice and tasty. Chips can be a little lightly cooked. Chips and cod is not at all greasy. Would definitely return.

Me and my son just had a cheeky chip shop lunch and it was delicious. Anyone that hasn't tried here you have to give it a go it was top draw.

Just had the most delicious fish and chips. My plaice was beautifully cooked, piping hot, perfect and my husband's skate was apparently the best he's had in years. The staff are all very pleasant and helpful and so I would highly recommend this shop.

Having just left an appointment recently in Billericay I felt rather peckish. At just that moment I spied a fish and chip shop, The Happy Haddock. Ideal. Popped in, quick friendly service, excellent selection, very tasty at a sensible price. Totally filled the spot. If I am ever in the area again I'd have no hesitation choosing to go there again.

My partner , my son and myself came here while visiting friends in the area. On arrival, the place looked okay, however the man that took our order was so miserable it was almost ironic he worked there.We didn't have a long wait , but I'm not surprised. The chips looked like last nights left overs. Shrivelled crunchy and over cooked. Barely chips at All. The fish was the opposite. My partner and I had cod. I'm sure mine was off! And my partners was definitely under cooked. My son had the cod bites and he barely touched them. In his words 'they are gooey and yuck'. We all felt rather delicate the next couple of days. I certainly won't go back. Worst fish and chips I'd ever had! Looks like a classic case of poor management. Definitely wouldn't recommend !

Decided to try the Happy Haddock in Billericay for the first time, after using many others in the area over many years. We all thought that this was the best fish & chips takeaway around. They cook it fresh why you wait but it is well worth the wait. The fish Cod had a light crispy batter and not greasy like many other places with beautiful tasting fish. For the first time we had chips that were crisp and fresh, unlike the soggy chips that we have had from other fish shops. Will definitely return, please continue with this high standard of food.

I've tried most of the fish and chip shops in and around Billericay and, unfortunately they are a bit disappointing. However, I thought I'd give the Happy Haddock a go. I called in just before 6pm on a Saturday and was a little surprised that the shop was empty of customers. I was greeted by a very pleasant lady and I ordered large cod and chips. The fish was cooked fresh and it look about five minutes. The nice lady asked whether I'd like salt and vinegar and, put this on for me. I took my food home, and was pleased with the portion I had been given. The fish was lovely and moist, covered with a thin crispy batter. The chips were nice and chunky, cooked perfectly and tasted beautiful. Overall I was pleasantly surprised and will definitely be going back.

The best chippy (Cod Father) are closed due to Holidays, so thought I try the Happy Haddock. Friday night at 7pm and there is no fish being fried?!?!?! You have to order and wait. Large chips are small, but the Cod was good.

First the good; the fish is cooked to order and is always very nice. However, far to often the chips have been below the standard I would expect. On a couple of occasions they have been part raw and many others, although cooked, were anaemic. Both could be rectified by cooking for a little longer. I gave this takeaway lots of chances as I live close by, but that's it now and will be going elsewhere in future.

Needed something quick with friends after a long day. Popped in and after finally deciding what to have with the help of the owner we took home the best fish and chips I've had in ages.

Had a lot of fish and chip shops open and reopen at this location and honestly the happy haddock is the best by far! Lived in the area all my life and can honestly say that this fish and chippy is the best in billericay!

Our "go to" chippy in Billericay. Beautifully cooked fresh fish, we've never had a duff meal there. There are others in Billericay - but since The Happy Haddock has opened we've never needed to go elsewhere. Phone ahead and tell 'em what you want and when you want it - and it'll be ready. Or just pop in and wait whilst it's cooked. No complaints from me.

I have just noticed that this establishment is up for sale. When it opened, I decided to try it out, having been enticed by a leaflet offering lunch time special of cod & chips with a buttered roll & mushy peas for just £5. Firstly, the cod was a child/pensioner sized portion, which was not made clear in the offer. Secondly, the owner (Barry) monopolised his condiments (oo-er) by keeping them on his side of the counter, saying that his wife kept the place scrupulously clean and "people expect to put their own vinegar on then splash it all over the place". Many customers prefer to apply their own salt & vinegar so I remember wondering how long he'd keep trading with his supercilious attitude. Wonder no more.

The Happy Haddock is by far the best fish & chip takeaway in Billericay. The fish is cooked while you wait and is still crispy when you get it home and the chips are great. Portions are large! Would recommend.

Really good fish and chip shop, food is always so nice and fresh. This is now our regular after trying on a whim. Much nicer than other local chip shops.

The Happy Haddock brought 50 suppers to our social event. Bang on time, hot and delicious. Very reasonable price. Would definitely use again.

Have used other local chip shops but this far out weighs all of them ,takes me back to my childhood.

I don't normally like chips from a chippy, but I'll make an exception for the Happy Haddock! Staff are lovely and although I'm vegetarian, everyone I know who has had the fish etc says it's all really good. Also the shop is one of the cleanest chip shops I've ever seen :)

We used The Happy Haddock to cater for our Vintage tea party, garden wedding and we couldn't have asked for a better service, from the beginning Barry was very helpful with suggestions and tips and planning, when our big day came Barry delivered our wedding feast which was perfect, the food was delicious and we had so many great comments which we passed onto The Happy Haddock. They even made it personal with a wedding card (Thanks!) We couldn't have asked for more and can highly recommend them for catering and for takeaways ( as we have been back since) Thanks Again! Defiantly the best fish and chips in the area food freshly cooked whilst you wait will be going back for certain cod and chips were great not at all greasy and a re reasonably priced and value for money reminded me of fish and chips I had as a child

The food took a very long time to be prepared, with slow service for our order to be taken. The food was very greasy and the chips were undercooked. would definitely not recommend!

Firstly easy to park.. The standard of food is of the highest quality, must be in the oil.. chips always crispy, also fish batter and all the other things always light and not greasy. They also often trial different tasty little 'specials' like pineapple fritters ! :-)When the standard is this good, we really need to support our smaller, local independent businesses :-)

One of the best haddock and chips I've ever had... meaty haddock, perfect crisp batter, delicious traditional chip shop chips. Also a lovely, well-decorated shop with really friendly staff. I might sound like a friend of theirs or something, but honestly it I'm just some bloke, I used to live in Billericay as a kid, now live in Berlin and really miss this kind of food. It is a huge disappoinment to get bad fish and chips on the rare occasion when I'm in the country, so I'm really happy that there's a place round the corner from my dad's that does some of the best! I shall be serving it with pride to my German other half when she's next over. Keep it up folks!

Following a recommedation we decided on a Friday night visit. After a very long wait even though empty, the fish was VERY disappointing - Won't return.

Haven't eaten from here before, normally go up the high street. We are very impressed. Fish was cooked fresh, service with a smile. Really great quality.

I 've just had the best fish and chips in a long while. They were cooked to perfection. Not to greasy and they were yummy. This is a fish shop not a restaurant and I had them when I got home

So disgusted with this place, man behind the counter looked as if his been slapped around the face a dozen times with a wet fish! He was so miserable!!!Wasn't much of a welcoming I must say, and to top it all off the skate my husband got was off and stank of ammonia.I shall never use this place again and wouldn't recommend it to anyone.My custome and friends and family now go else where.

Barry and Wendy are friendly and welcoming, the food is cooked while you wait which is brilliant, the shop itself is clean and tidy and the food is excellent value for money. i can recommend the baby rack of ribs they are gorgeous.......even the way they wrap your food is brilliant and the little chip forks are just great ....

The batter mix is exactly right for freshly cooked fish. And the chips taste really good which I put down to the oil they are using. Worth finding out where they are.

Really nice fish and chips, best i've tried in a while. The people running it were so friendly and lovely to talk to. Everything was cooked fresh and only had to wait a few minutes. They have a really varied menu as well. Its just a shame for the owners that every time i've been in there it hasn't been very busy but I can't imagine why because I couldn't fault it, I really want them to do well as they came across so lovely.

This has to be the best fish and chips in Billericay. If you walk in you will have to wait 10 minutes for your fish to be cooked just for you. Worth waiting for. Best way is to phone your order in and by the time you have driven there its ready for you. Best of all it's the only fish and chip shop in Billericay with easy parking right outside. Drive over pick up your fish and chips pop in next door for a bottle of wine and drive home. All done in 10 minutes. Hmmm, loverly grub.

This is a great chip shop where all the food is cooked fresh to order. The best I have had in Billericay.It can be worth ringing through the order first for collection.

In my opinion, this is the best fish and chip shop in or around Billericay.The fish isn't lying on the top of the hotplate as is so with many competitors,but is put into the fryer as soon as you order. Naturally one has to wait whilst the fish is cooked but the result is FRESHLY cooked HOT fish. If you don't want to wait, order by phone and pick up when told they would be ready.The owners are always polite and pleasant and the premises have always looked spotless. I recommend the Happy Haddock

This chippy has become our regular now. Lovely fresh fish and chips. My son loves the chicken nuggets which are chicken breast not that mushy stuff you normally get. They take telephone orders so its all ready when you go pick it up.

I was pleased about this chip shop being under new management. The previous chip shop there was bad, we went there once and never went back.I decided to give the Happy Haddock a try tonight. I ordered a cod and chips and a cheeseburger and chips. It took a while to come, but then you would rather that than poor food in a hurry.When I got home I found that the the cod was over cooked, the batter was dark brown instead of golden and the chips were cut up really small, dry and over fried. Even my 14 year old son (who is normally like a hoover) said that the chips were bad and left most of them. The chips had the taste and consistency of what I can only imagine are all the chip pieces that are left in the fryer at the end of the night.Rather than just never going back, I ate some of the chips and the dry cod (leaving the batter) and took the rest of it back to the shop. The owners listened to my comments and said that they were grateful for the feedback.

Visited for the first time on 25th October to try them out and was back in on Friday 31st for our traditional fish and chip night which we have had on hold for a long time as 1st Class service and 1st Class Food - highly recommend will be a regular visitor

We visited last Saturday eve with the family. All of us enjoyed 'a very hearty meal'. The batter on the fish was lovely, not heavy or soggy and the chips were very tasty - good portions too. The shop is very clean and the owners Barry & Wendy are very friendly and even bought out extra salt and vinegar to our car where we were eating. Well worth the drive from Chelmsford for quality fish and chips.

Had my first cod and chips last Friday and my son had saveloy and chips. Beautiful piece of fish and batter. Son loved his too. The shop is immaculate and very friendly staff. Will be returning this Friday. The fbook page is excellent too and its great you can go on line and pre order.

Popped into the happy haddock today as was passing and hungry. The food was prepared fast and fresh, and tasted great. the burger was amazing and chips second to none. I live in basildon and would even travel as food was so good.
