I can't believe there is even one negative review regarding food on this site. Kids yes, they are a bloody nuisance everywhere especially when their parents treat the place like a childrens' playground and, unfortunately, this is an area where 'little darlings' are allowed to 'express themselves'. However, for adults... As a semi-regular, I have always considered their pizzas not just the best in Brighton but just about everywhere. This was, nevertheless, the first time I/we - there were seven of us - had been for Sunday roast. Superb is an understatement. The portions were huge - I think I must have had half a splendidly cooked cow! - while others indulged in a mixed meat roast. The accompanying vegetables were more than plentiful and, despite, being tantalised by the dessert menu, unfortunately none of us had room. Drinks prices are a little steep for an out of city centre establishment but food prices are cheap by comparison and the quality is fantastic.

My partner and I went along to the Hanover for a Sunday roast. I hadn’t been there for a while so thought we would give it a go - wished we hadn’t really. Terrible greeting from the lady behind the bar - rather curtly “you need to register with the nhs app” as soon as we’d walked through the door! An “hello” wouldn’t have gone amiss. Ordered the roast Turkey - the meat and potatoes were ok - the gravy, veg and Yorkshire pudding were a disaster! The veg tasted like they’d been cooked in vinegar - as did the gravy and the Yorkshire pudding was like it had sat around all day! Not easy to ruin a Sunday roast but they managed it! Would rush back.

A good fun pub with a big food menu. We did find it confusing that everything containing Gluten was marked with a G, as everywhere else does the opposite. Not a great GF selection if you don't want a pizza. On separate occasions we have had great roast dinners and evening meals, although open mic night is far too loud!

Usually full of kids running round like lunatics and on my most recent visit couldn't get a decent coffee only instant, couldn't get a decent soft drink just cheap cartoned juice and my wife's wine glass had lipstick on it. We liked the look of this place straightaway. It is a large pub, uncluttered and with large tables spread throughout the space available, many occupied on a Sunday lunchtime by families with young children, such as ours. The staff were friendly and approachable, so all of our early impressions were favourable, and our order was speedily taken at the bar. On the subject of the bar, this pub features several well-known and well-respected real ales, so all good so far.The menu. however, was too large for a diner to feel really comfortable that the meals they ordered did not come straight from the freezer, and sadly, this was the case with some of the food we ordered. I chose the three-meat roast, and at least one of the meats, the pork I think, had that taste that food left too long in the deep-freeze tends to acquire. I had the same impression with some of the vegetables, notably the carrots. The beef was also disappointing, being rather sinewy and fatty. The quantities, however, were very generous, and at least one of our party, normally a hearty eater, had trouble finishing her meal. All in all, I felt a little let down by the Hanover. They've got such a lot going for them; ideal premises, a good catchment area, pleasant and efficient staff, but by offering such a vast menu, there must have been at least 50 dishes on offer, they sacrifice quality for quantity.

This pub has a lovely atmosphere and the staff are very friendly. Excellent fast service and well priced food for the large portion size - particularly like the Roasts!! Great variety from mussels to meatballs and pizza from a stove oven cooked in front of you. We were pleasantly surprised to find out that they offer gluten free Pizzas. Wide range of ale's to choose from I particularly enjoyed the quirky bat with three different ales deal (can't remember name). One of my favourite pubs in the Hanover area especially as it appears to be the only one in the area that offers more than just roasts on a Sunday.

We prebooked for last Saturday afternoon for 11 people. We had lots of space and were given lots of time before, during and after the meal. The food arrived together, was hot and lots of it! The food IS spicy hot as well, where appropriate, so watch out for that, we mostly loved it. Between us we had meatballs, pie+mash (comes with a Yorkie pud!), ribs/chicken, chilli, veg. chilli, burger. There were a few of our party valiant enough to attempt pudding, and there were large portions of brownie, sticky toffee pud and an icecream sundae. This is a good food pub which does not rip you off and we had a great time. Thanks to all.

We had rented a house for a few days opposite The Hanover so it made sense to check out their food and the fact they have stoned baked pizzas was a bonus. There were 8 of us, we ordered 7 pizzas and 1 vegetarian burger. The pizzas were a good size, tasted great and good value at between £9.50 and £10.50. The burger was also very good.Probably one of the best pizzas I have had.Friendly staff and good beer, although there were not many people in the pub it had a good atmosphere and was welcoming. There was just one down side that should be sorted out, the burger came about 10 minutes before the pizzas, everybody should be getting their food at the same time.

Had my mums birthday at the Hanover on Sunday 26th. We decided to book in advance as mum lives nearby and wanted to go to the local pub. We all met at the pub with my brothers and my sisters. The place was packed at 15.00, so we got told by the manager Adam that there was a 30 minute wait for food. We all were fine with this so ordered our wines and beers. We placed our orders, and it really was not that long a wait at all. We ordered the huge lamb shanks, beef and chicken roasts. I had a veggie roast for myself, and what came was fantastic. The portions were amazing. As we tucked into our lunch we all talked about how great our food was. Mum said it was delicious, and we all agreed. After we had finished our meals we looked at the dessert menu. I opted for the waffle with Ice cream, mum had the brownie with ice cream and my brother had the sticky toffee pudding with custard, and again OMG the portions were huge. We can honestly say that the service and the standard of food in this wonderful pub truly is fantastic. We even asked for them to play Stevie Wonder's Happy Birthday for our wonderful mum which they did for us. So it's a huge thumbs up for the Hanover!

Have often visited this pub mid week for a very good pizza. Went this Sunday for the Sunday roast. Admittedly we arrive late 5pm but they said food was still on. The portions were huge but over cooked and virtually inedible. A pub that was relatively good needs to maintain its standards. Don't serve poor food else you get reviews like this. I too am local and occasionally drink at the Hanover Pub and participate in the Pub Quiz on Tuesdays. I have not had a roast dinner there for a long time but recently had Sunday lunch in a family group. Three of us had the beef, one had chicken and two the roast belly pork. We all enjoyed our meals. On the plus side the meat was good and plentiful, the veg was varied and the Yorkshire puddings were excellent but although there were plenty of roast potatoes on the plate, they were a big disappointment. They were dry and tasteless and I suspect they were frozen. The menu states the Yorkshires are homemade and they certainly tasted and looked it. Why if they are homemade can't the potatoes be too? Also like the other review noted there were no parsnips which I love with a roast. I must admit I enjoyed the stuffing which was very tasty. All in all a successful meal.

As I'm local, and have had many a good night at The Hanover, we thought we'd try the Sunday Lunch. We are on a quest for the best roast beef sunday lunch in Brighton - and this was most definitely not it. After a 40 minute wait, the plates arrived. Large plate, cold, which meant that the gravy was also stone cold on arrival. They re-heated it for me, but it didn't make up for the miserly two thin slices of gristly beef, the overcooked roasties, or the lack of a parsnip. Strangely, there was stuffing ( ? sausagemeat ?) and the Yorkshire pud wasn't too bad. All in all a disappointment. The quest continues.....

Popped in this evening to ask about booking their function room for an event we are planning for about 60 people. Bar was almost empty but the barman was more interested in his friend than he was in serving us with a glass of wine each. We asked about the room and he said he'd get someone to come to talk to us. We took a table and waited. And waited. And waited. The person we were supposed to see did venture into the bar, spent a good while scribbling on paper and then disappeared. We asked what was going on and the barman said he'd get him for us. So we waited...and then we left. Went to neighbouring pub with function room and there was an instant difference - guess where we are going with our £1000 budget? Shame we can't give zero star reviews.

The ale is good, variety, price and quality. So come here for drinks, not the food. This used to be a great pizza place but that's long gone based on this visit. Simply put there's barely enough topping on the pizzas to distinguish one from another, quite the most miserly thing I've ever encountered. For a few quid as a side snack to night of ales it'd be fine, as they are well made but just not flavoursome enough, so a tenner a pop is OTT. And don't expect a warm and engaging relationship with the staff, total number of words shared with us by one of the staff over 3 visits to our table... nil. I'll be back for beers but disappointingly not for the pizza.

We have to agree with the low reviews, we get it is reasonable in price but what a let down in food. Starter over priced, main course pesto pasta covered in a weak watered down tomato sauce, but why, the calzone had no flavour at all and missing the middle. I would recommend that the staff are advised what dishes are not available so that customers do not choose what they want to eat and then are rushed to find alternatives. This happened today with the Christmas menu ,main courses and deserts, also my brucetta was impossible to cut, would not recommend Zizzi.
