We booked a sunday lunchtime to celebrate mums birthday most chose Sunday lunch which was absolutely beautiful the portions where generous and everything was hot and tasty, as where the other dishes served. The staff where friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble, there where 16 of us and they patiently waited for us all to meet up and settle before asking if we were ready for food, which we had preordered a few days before . When mums dessert came it was served on a beautiful decorated slate with a chocolate piped happy birthday and fruit as a surprise, what a lovely time we all had

Perfect place for a family luncheon. Caters for all, small and large, young and old. Excellent and varied menu, prepared well and served perfectly.

Visited today for a family celebration, We were all seated together in the back room so it was like our own private party. The staff were amazing, the service was excellent, the food was delicious and all served up together, which was amazing as there were 17 of us, no issues with any meal whatsoever. Well done to you all for making our Mums birthday celebration a day to remember. Thank you

Went for an afternoon dinner yesterday, can’t fault it at all and the signature burger was gorgeous. It cost us £60 for 2 mains, 2 drinks, 3 sides, and a dessert. Will definitely go again.

Been here 5 times this year alone... always one of our favourite places Went into the Gate today...usual smiley friendly staff.. drinks promptly served ..order placed .. food duly served PROBLEM..my veg stone cold... told waitress..offered to replace veg Agreed adjustments at end of meal...offered £3.. refused Tried talking to manager Susie.. was not prepared to talk to discuss... extremely off hand and offensive Thank goodness the staff are great Will be a while before returning

The food was good, but the service was not great and let the place down. In all I paid £220 and expected better. It was also too cramped to the detriment of the meal satisfaction.

Ebony was so friendly last night on the bar! Huge credit to your team , when you receive a friendly smile and get a nice chat! Very rare in most pubs now days just ask what you want and that’s it. Thank you Ebony for a great service!

Absolutely stunning place, I went for dinner with my mum and my daughters. The inside and outside were beautiful inside, with a lovely atmosphere. Inside was candle lit and the fire was on, the toilets smell divine and the staff couldn't do enough for us 🖤 Have driven past many times and never managed to go in so I'm glad we did. We will be back! 🖤

Went last night with my partner. I had the signature burger. It was amazing and to die for. Was reluctantly forced into having a pud as was full.Crumble was amazing too.

An absolutely fabulous meal in a Beautiful pub. Heather and Suzie were very helpful, even coming out in the rain to give me my glasses I’d left inside. The food is delicious. And our Dog Dashi was made extremely welcome

Over many years I've been here only a handful of times because I'm not local. I'm never disappointed, and I would probably say it had improved over time. Lovely Sunday lunch with friends. I had the fish pie which was lovely, everyone else went with a Sunday roast which looked lovely too, plenty of veg on the side.

Book a table for Sunday dinner to be told we have run out of roast meats and we only have a. couple of other main courses as on Sunday we only do roasts!!! Pathetic!

Very cosy pub. Ordering steak might be tricky though. Mine was very hard to cut even though I asked for medium rare. It is not a problem as it is common to happen when ordering steak. The thing is we were never asked how the food was. Atmosphere is amazing, the choice of wine is excellent. The pudding was marvellous. I had the chocolate brownie with ice cream and it was worth every bite.

This pub accommodated a group of 10 of us rather last minute for a birthday meal for my Dad, after another pub had let us down. We were extremely grateful to them for this. My Dad is gluten free and they were very accommodating for that and they brought a tablet to the table which filtered and showed the menu items available for GF. The food was AMAZING. We had Sunday lunches, and the children had things like pizza (classic 😆). Despite being rather full we did try some puddings too because they looked irresistible. All dishes were 10/10. The staff were friendly and helpful and a credit to the place. Lastly, the pub itself is beautiful and cosy, with a charming open fire at one end of the bar which we enjoyed warming ourselves at while we waited for others to arrive. We will certainly be returning 🥰

Cosy and warm inside. Proper cottage feel. Food was lovely and warm. Kids meals were brill and they got more than most places. Chicken nuggets were homemade which I liked. Dog friendly and a gorgeous outside area for Summer. Waitress was very friendly and accommodating

Never had a bad meal at the HG. Really tasty prawn cocktail to start … unlike some places, plenty of prawns in a delicious tangy sauce, fresh lettuce leaves (make the point of it being fresh opposed to some of the stuff you get in some places which is close to or past is best) and creamy chunks of avocado. The belly pork was soft, the fat beautifully rendered and accompanied by lovely, suitably salty cracking! Half a dozen roasties, a Yorkie and plenty of well cooked veg (well cooked as in properly and not overly cooked). What’s not to like? Excellent wine menu. All reasonably priced. Service as usual excellent; friendly and professional …. Would strongly recommend …

Booked for 3 Guests for Sunday lunch one guest vegan. Waited a while for drinks,waited even longer to order,it wasn't really that busy but again took ages for the starters. After finishing our starters it took 25mins for them to take the dishes, and they only did so due to our mains coming out, the Waitress had to take them back clear the table then bring them back out. My food was disgusting I had chips and burger ,from presentation to taste. I ate the chips but could not eat the burger. We were left without drinks and kept trying to get the servers attention. Chatting at the station was more evident than service. Two tables either side of us were left with no one wanting to clear them while chatting bang opposite them. Really all round poor service throughout. One positive they did not charge for the burger I could not eat.And not once did anyone check if our food was OK throughout the meal ,we never complained about the soup being too cold but had to mention the burger that looked like it had been microwaved and was rock hard . I've seen good reviews and wonder if we visited the same place.

Good variety of food, pleasent staff. Will go again. Better selection of beer would be better.

First time visitor to The Hanging Gate for 1st Anniversary meal. Food was excellent, the service was spot on. Staff very friendly and the pub itself was cosy and very clean. A massive thank you to Suzi and the staff for a wonderful evening. Definitely be going back.

An early evening booking on a Winter’s Saturday night. A lovely, warm welcome with a gorgeous log fire blazing. Comfortable seating areas and a simple pub menu, with something for everyone. The Hanging Gate is simply “good value for money”. Nothing fancy, just GREAT service, a warm atmosphere and well cooked “pub food”. Couldn’t fault anything 😊

The most delicious fresh food and quality service. The menu is rich and so far, every meal has been a treat. The Chicken & Vegetable PENANG CURRY dish was made with distinctive tastes, the pie was absolutely divine . Highly recommend eating here and once again compliments to the chef.

This is a very relaxed environment, very welcoming, we have have been coming for many years, choose the food or just drinks you won't be disappointed. It has to be one of the best, I've been wined and dined in Monaco so I speak from a position of knowledge. Suzie is a brilliant mine host. Recommended.

Pretty poor. Slow service, food tepid and ordinary at best, but beer quite good. They don’t really seem to be that organised or that bothered. Shame. Will not be back.

Went today with my wife for their Christmas lunch menu as I'm working Christmas day so this was my Christmas dinner. It was absolutely fantastic the food was plentiful and tasty. The service and atmosphere was great we throughly enjoyed it and will return again in the new year. I would definitely recommend.

booked this place for late lunch on a Sunday Aways been delighted when visiting as a couple 7 of us was absolutely delighted.... 7 clean plates speaks volume to a variety of dishes we chose.... not a morsel left The Staff get a SPECIAL mention..... Jolly Happy and Smiley... nothing we requested was a problem to them When the kitchen staff popped out for a well deserved drink, it was our turn to say thank you for the gorgeous food they had cooked for us There is a certain establishment at Beeley could learn a lot from this team at the GATE

We had lunch for party of eight. The service was excellent and food good quality and value for money. The waitress was very helpful and made the birthday lunch memorable.

Great Sunday lunch for mums birthday starters were good …pate and mushrooms.. had the roast beef and and aubergine really enjoyed the beef and apparently the aubergine was lovely too ..finished with coffees lovely atmosphere nice staff thankyou

Roast potatoes cooked day before mash was rubbish and small portion. The service was great lovely staff just the food is not worth the price at all.

We came for lunch on Saturday for our uncles 80th birthday. We called ahead to see if we could have an accessible table as several members of our party have walking aids. The table we were given was lovely, in a very quiet part. The staff were lovely, patient when we took a while to decide what we all wanted. We weren’t rushed at all throughout the whole meal, 3 courses! Everyone’s food was delicious, clean plates all round! And to end the lovely experience, the staff brought out our cake that we brought with the candles and sang happy birthday. It made his day! Thank you so much, we will be back and highly recommend.

Great pub inside, nice and cosy. Table for 4, all meals were cooked lovely. The Mac n cheese, was upgraded with pulled pork, but really there wasn't that much and not worth the extra £. My pie was very tasty. Fish n chips all good to.

Started a noisy kitchen floor cleaner during our meal and ignored repeated requests to cease and switch it off. Horrendous!!!!

We have been going to the Hanging Gate for a number of years now and unfortunately this was our least favourite experience! We waited for over an hour for our meal. I asked a waiter as to where our food was and he said he would check, he then walked passed us on at least 3 occasions without comment! When our food eventually arrived, my steak was well done as opposed to medium, the garnish, which consisted of pea shoots was so limp it looked like something they had extracted from the rubbish bin! We were not asked once as to how was our meal. The steak was very tough and dry. When our meals finally arrived, there was no apology for the delay. Unfortunately we were very unimpressed with this experience, so will definitely not be returning any time soon, there are a number of other establishments locally that consistently offer better service and food. We run a local Airbnb and to date we have included The Hanging Gate as a recommendation, we have now removed this restaurant as a recommendation.

Lovely place for a relaxed Sunday dinner with all the trimmings! Good sized portions and a great selection of puddings - Tilda was an awesome server and made sure we had everything we needed and all the food arrived piping hot, highly recommend this cozy country pub with a nice blend of modern decor in an olde world building

Sunday lunch portions generous, served in pleasant atmosphere. Would have preferred slightly slower service to ensure food was piping hot on arrival at the table, but presume this a difficult balance to achieve on a busy sunday. Would eat here again when in the area.

Food for myself and wife (both chicken schnitzel) excellent. TT beer expensive. Marked down on service because girl watched from behind the bar as I struggled to get my wife's wheelchair through the front, outward opening, door. I'm 86 and some assistance would have been welcome! Other than that service was excellent. Thank you Heather and Selina. Have marked atmosphere down because it is so dark at some of the tables. Weve been coming here for about 50 years amd have tried most tables. Very very difficult to read the menu. The pub is lovely inside but tables need to be illuminated better

We recently visited here as a group of 14 , we all had lovely food , the staff were welcoming and efficient .all our orders were present and correct. We had a few young children with us and they were made to feel welcome also.the desserts were really beautifully presented , I had the blackcurrant torte which looked and tasted divine . They had a nice selection of drinks too, I was pleased to discover they had my Seville orange gin in stock, and the coffee was excellent too. We didn't feel rushed , and the waitresses were very friendly. Good nothing was too much trouble for them.

Came here with my grandparents, we had not been to the hanging gate for years, the food was amazing, we all had a sirloin steak and they were cooked to perfection, the food came out piping hot and was delicious !! 10/10 all round. Would definitely recommend coming back, the staff were all so lovely and friendly.

We've eaten here a few times and the food is always excellent. Friendly service and nice atmosphere, maybe a bit quiet. Will keep going back, one of our favourite places to eat.
