Great pub great food and awesome atmosphere

Should I remove a star because I wish it was closer to home? I can’t fault this wonderful pub, from the great outdoor space to the friendly staff. I visited recently for food and was surprised by the vast choice of different dishes to choose from, even as a vegetarian and a very fussy eater. It is not very often I am spoilt for choice. My food came quick, fresh and delicious. The portion size was spot on and the value for money is great! I will definitely be back, it’s worth the journey.

Really disappointing meal. I ordered the sizzling bbq beef rib. Basically got a plate of chips, undercooked mushrooms and onions and one rib. My partner also didn’t receive the food he ordered. I spoke to a member of the bar staff who was very friendly and explained there was a new chef however no refund was offered. Due to the quality of the food I will not be returning until a new chef is found.

Drove past this pub few times when visiting family but decided to call in this time. We were greeted with a welcoming smile from girls behind the bar which makes nice change from someone being on their mobile. The pub was quiet with it being early lunchtime but it had a friendly atmosphere the girls had a little chat with us asking us where we were from. I noticed there was plenty of tv's around for you sports fans and a lovely fire for winter time. We both had the fish and chips which we didn't have to wait too long and were asked if everything was ok and did we need anything else to go with our meals. We both cleared our plates food was lovely(sorry didnt get any photos) Definitely call in again when we're passing.

i went for a family meal here and was served by a lovely waitress called Annali .She was so friendly ,competent and served us very quickly .

Visited the pub during the end of the summer with my partner and had a wonderful experience dining in. The service of the staff, particularly the young waitress Matilda, was prompt and professional and there was no issues whatsoever

Food fresh and good value. However it’s annoying that you book a table for 12 then have to move furniture about to make a table suitable for 12. Why isn’t this prepared in advance? If other people had sat differently it wouldn’t have been possible yet the table had been booked for a couple of weeks!

Went here with all the lads to have a lovely scran. Food was absolutely fantastic 👍 and I couldn’t get enough of those curly fries. Fortunately had a lovely young lady named Matilda helping us and a barman who made it enjoyable for me and me lads. Will def come back here however sometimes the feeling was a bit off with the other workers but i had a lovely time and fab staff helping us. Recommend!!!! (Especially since the prices are so good in this economy! 😂❤️)

Really loved going here with my family (two teenage boys and my husband), one of my boys is quite picky and we often find it hard to find food he enjoys but Hammer & Pincers had an overflow of delicious, simple foods! Couldn't be more grateful! Aside from that, the atmosphere and the service was just phenomenal, Matilda- our waitress, and the barman, who's name I didn't seem to catch, absolutely made our experience just that much more special! Our waitress made jokes, repeatedly asked us if we needed anything, and never once appeared disinterested or unenthusiastic; which we were so grateful for and really helped us to be engaged in the dining experience. There was no unnecessary flavours, and the table was jam packed with essential condiments (although would've loved to see some mustard), and salt and pepper! On a sour note, we would've appreciated a larger array of non-alcoholic beers, my hubby, James, has recently ventured onto his sober journey and found the lack of range unfortunate (only three!). I just find this to be dated and a thing of the past and would love to see this for the future- which we will definitely be there for! Overall, an absoloute sublime dinner! And although a few slight ways to improve, we couldn't be happier for the price, and for the service!

Revisited as requested from my last review managed to convince two friends to join me and sadly nothing seems to have changed. As stereod by another review I have read on here. It’s really sad to say as we genuinely thought things would have been different as we was invited back by the management. Unfortunately long food wait times nearly an hour and cold. Not busy no atmosphere for a pub that should be busy. Staff seem flustered.

went for a few drinks with some friend's, really enjoyed sitting out side in nice garden area was a brilliant day to do so. The food was great but the staff were even nicer especially Emily and Georgia. would definitely recommend !!!

Visited on a Sunday afternoon, pub was dead with no atmosphere and yet our food took 40 minutes to arrive. Meals were bang average, fish and chips were burger were pretty good but curry and tandoori chicken far far too spicy despite no mention of spice on the menu. Chips freezing, and the ice creams we ordered for desert came melted. Probably wouldn’t visit again.

Absolutely terrible service and a manager that couldn’t give a monkeys about correct business acumen. I made a complaint due the terrible service and a poor meal to have no valuable response from the management on duty. She actually walked away whilst making the complaint. Totally unacceptable!!! Do not eat at this establishment if you want good service and good food. I will be seeking a full refund

the worst dining experience ever. Server ignorant to say the least. When we got our food the salmon was like boot leather and the so called sizzling vegetables consisted of 3 pieces of broccoli and a pile of soggy, greasy onions and peppers with no flavour whatsoever. Nobody asked us if everything was ok or if we were enjoying our meal. In fact when we were leaving we couldn't find a member of staff anywhere. Disappointing doesn't cover it. Never again

Absolutely loved my visit here, hats off to Owen for pouring one of the best pints I’ve ever had! Will be back again for another soon.

Lovely little pub, popped in other day after a long walk, just had drinks, bar staff very friendly, got talking to Owen about our walk, very nice guy .

My daughter called in for a drink with colleagues on her way home from work and subsequently she has a £100.00 fine for her troubles. She does not remember seeing any signs about registering to park. I've never known a public house to do this and personally wouldn't be looking for signs stating this or would at least expect staff to inform of this arrangement. £100 fine for a quick drink on a Tuesday at 16.30pm is ridiculous. So from now on I've said they need to go back to the Norfolk Arms when having after work drinks.

This pub used to be a hive of activity but when we went yesterday the pub was nearly empty. The staff were pleasant and helpful but both were leaving because of the way the pub is now run. There was no atmosphere yet the food was lovely this pub was and could be a good place again with management that care and want to make it part of the community.

there were 10 of us the first 2 had finished their meal before the next lot came that was 3 they were vegetarian and the toddler meal the other 4 had to wait 10 minutes one was a rare steak that was burnt to a crisp when we were ready to leave they brought 2 small dishes out that they had forgotten to bring out earlier sorry to say we wont be going there again

Amazing bar staff, was only one girl on when we came in and despite the fact it was busy she was very helpful and always happy. Didn’t catch her name but she had glasses and tattoos. She was non stop helping others and making sure everything went smoothly

Incredible £100 parking fine just received 7th March for Celebrating with an average lunch our friends 90th birthday. We saw no parking charge signs outside or inside or advised by members of staff in the pub to register our car. There was only one other person in the pub at the time of entry so not too busy to slip employees mind. So angry.

We arrived about 11.50am which we knew was a little early. On the door was a note saying that they had staff training and wouldn’t be opening till 12.30pm. On the internet it said 12.00pm and on the signage near the car park it said it opened at 11.30 am. The lady who I think is the landlady let us in after I explained we had a booking for 12.00. She told us the kitchen wouldn’t be open till 12.30 but we could have drinks. This was fine with us but this place is amazing and food was ordered and served well before this time. Great place just sort the signage.

this pub has a great atmosphere and is always friendly, staff and customers alike. amy and brooke are always extremely helpful behind the bar and i would always recommend the hammer for a great night of drinks.

Arrived after staff had had a busy day with customers enjoying the football. Robert greeted us with a smile and quickly cleared a table for us. Drinks service from him was good too. Food freshly cooked and tasty. Would recommend.

The food here is absolutely amazing

We went and tried the food and we weren’t disappointed, it was a nice portion, and the Garman was cooked. Nice as well. The staff was really nice, and the atmosphere is also nice as well. Will definitely be coming back when we are in the area again.

That disappointed already reviewed on google. Don’t entertain the place. There are many better options locally and I be sampling those.

Such poor service and food. Left hungry and will not return. Such a shame being students that love the country side and always stop for food and drink on the way back to halls. Bar staff/manager are rude and judgemental.

We waited about 35 minutes for food and upon getting it my food was cold my daughter’s sizzling plate was lukewarm at best and the food on it was cold. On top of this the vegetables were inedible. I had ordered a meal and my chips were freezing, we have an autistic daughter so to wait for food for so long with her having a meltdown was bad enough never mind getting our food and it being so poor. We won’t be visiting again unfortunately as the pub itself is a very nice building and the staff were welcoming.

Wished we’d have seen the reviews before visiting this place ! Car park scam! Only called for a quick pint after work now got a got a £100 fine , fuming! Can’t recall any obvious signs telling u u have to register yr vehicle. Nor did the staff advise us of this. You would have thought just as new faces in there they may have notified of us of this ! Won’t be calling again ever. Be aware people!

Excellent service from very helpful staff. Meal was amazing and red hot. Would totally recommend it to anyone.

We came here for lunch today,it started off bad and got worse,my wife asked for a mug of tea but got a cup enema though we had for a mug. Then we had to wait about 30 minutes for the food to be served and it came out stone cold,and it was served on a sizzling plate but there was no sizzle at all, also there was hardly anything to choose from the menu as they did not have much.

Lovely little spot, definitely a local to those around it but stumbled upon the pub on a dog walk, and popped in for some food. Lovely outside area (sadly too cold to use it at the minute) but the inside was lovely too, lovely girl behind the bar was speedy and lovely to our dog offering him water as well!

Hello darlings. This place was marvellous… was having a terrible day with some bad news and came in here to cheer myself up… the manager katie was so helpful and friendly she really flipped my day around… having the chance to talk to her was so lovely …. You don’t get good staff nowadays but let me tell you this place really stands out … thank you Katie was lovely to meet you.

2nd time lve been in lately and both times lve not got sauces. This last time was so bad l needed to leave a review! No tartar sauce came with my fish and chips nor did the jack Daniels sauce l ordered. And was just ignored when pointing this out to the barmaid as she served it to me. As for the fish (raw in the middle) As was the chips.
