Im not sure whats happened at this place , but gone down hill shockingly. we had 3 pappas combos, and we had to pick out the best chips from the ones that looked old and were rock hard, not am exaggeration the batter on fish again so poor not nice. We have had a combo nearly every week since opened started off really good. Odd one not brill, but the previous purchase was really bad thought give benefit an hoped was a one off, so tried again this time was shocking this has probably been the worst fish chips from anywhere ive had.

Showing as open on Google. Drove 30 mins and upon arrival was closed for refurbishment. Useless. At least update your Google listing.

No offers for gulten free, infact wanted to charge 50p extra to cook them gulten free

A restaurant that stops serving food at 18:30 on a Thursday is just bizarre.

Food was lovely shame about the service. Approximately 3 hours to get fish and chips and a pudding with a near empty dining room.

So decided to give this establishment a try for the first time arrived into the bar area ordered two drinks and took our seat barely sat down with drinks and felt rushed to order which I hadn’t order one scampi chips gravy order two cod chips beans the food arrived with the beans and gravy on the wrong plates waiter never asked to f we wanted any eps with our food ie sauce the cod was cold and tasted like it had been done in a oven rather than hot and fried chips where like a plate of scraps crunchier that walkers Chrisps I left 70% of my meal in eaten waiter come asked if we had finished I simply said yes if it had been me I’d have asked y most of the meal was still on the plate enough said I’ve paid my bill and left avoid this place it’s very disappointing Whitby’s is a clear leader in fish and chips or home cooked stuff from Farm foods is a better option than this place I’m a local buisness owner and if this was my buisness I’d b pretty dam disappointed

The staff appeared to be under age to serve alcohol, none seemed to have worked in hospitality before, food tasted good but the beer had a slightly off taste , and I was ill the day after, my cutlery was dirty but I cleaned it myself, we had to ask for dips for our starter despite it being on the menu, and our daughter described the toilet as "disgusting", we will not go again

Service was slow and staff seemed unsure about the menu. Food was incomplete, slow to arrive but it was hot. Disappointing when it wasn't busy. Some drinks weren't available behind the bar. Staff were sat, on their phones in the restaurant.

Perfect Whitbys alot more professional

Very quiet, hardly anyone in, wondered if it was closed at first. Shown to our table, realised it had crumbs and gravy all over it, which they wiped down when asked. Fish was fresh,but felt the chips had been sat a while before being served. My tea cup had lipstick on it, but didn't realise until after I poured my drink. Was disappointed, as love their Cleethorpes branch and never had a problem there, but this branch had no atmosphere, and felt the cleanliness of the dining area was lacking.

The premises is clean and look inviting. The staff (1 waitress) was friendly but very busy and forgetful. The food was below average, the fish batter was swimming in oil, the calamari and fish cakes were dried out like snuff.

Gluten free chips, cooked in a separate pan. These looked and tasted like they had been in and out of the pan all day. Extremely oily and well overcooked, some to the point of burnt. I don't quite understand this as they are usually excellent. The small haddock is quite big and very good value.

The worst fish and chips I have tasted. The fish cake was burnt, the chips were just not fit to eat. The place is freezing inside and had to wait ages to be served. Only nice part it the Guinness. Avoid this place better chip shops in Sheffield.

Not many taker on a Sunday afternoon, this fish whilst big in size just didn’t hit the spot unfortunately.

Great service from the Christmas pudding

All the staff are very young but do a good job, unfortunately the menu is very difficult to understand even the staff didn't seem to know the difference between a hull Pattie a fishcake and a rissole. Also the portion sizes are too large for example if you wanted fishcake and chips you got two fishcakes and they are big enough that one would be plenty but the staff are happy to accommodate different requests. The staff seemed to be working hard and they were all polite and friendly.

Don’t bother unless you've got lots of time to kill. Service very slow!

The food is good ,when you get it !! Waited an hr Thursday 14th December. To be honest the place wasn't overly busy ,so I don't understand why the delay . Nearly missed the start of our event at Arena 😕

Service extremely slow waited 50 minutes for fish and chips, this is our 2nd visit and the service has got worse. Will not be back

Lucie, our server was a real star. Extreemly friendly and chatty without being overpowering. She is definitely a star asset for this place. Food did take a while to arrive, but did not disappoint. Will def go here again. Dissapointedly, the pots of tea, (not served by Lucie) , was missing teaspoons, so had to stir with my knife.... Not a deal breaker, but shouldn't have been missed.

Absolutely the worst place I've eaten, it was cold, we were told the heating had been broken a while, even though it was empty we had to wait 35 minutes for food, the chips were dry and hard, the fish was soggy with no flavour whatsoever, the waitress was doing her best but nothing will save this restaurant!

Service included free eye rolls whilst ordering. Food was poor the rissole had more grease than fish and was burnt on the underside. Battered sausage was under whelming, not even the fish was nice. Would not recommend this to anyone.

Fish was cooked fresh but the chips went in the bin, Pre cooked so they let Papas down badly. Won't be going back there again.

The place was cold, the food was hot, the service prompt, it had no atmosphere whatsoever. There was a stove there which wasn't lit even though it was cold. It was also expensive for small plates.

The fish was nice enough but the chips were over cooked and the curry had like a paste texture. The pepsi didn't taste like pepsi, more like a cheap version. Also the tartar sauce was in packets, would be nice to have freshly made tartar sauce. There was no heating on so it was really cold in there, it stunk of grease and had no music on. We have been twice before in the autumn and it was nice but on this visit, I would be reluctant to go back unfortunately.

This is possibly the worst place for fish and chips. My fish was just a soggy sticky mess. They forgot my peas and bread and I had to ask for them. And no apologies either..the fish was such poor quality. My partners fish cake wasn't fresh either. And seemed reheated. The bread was stale. Awful 😖

Amazing place for fish & chips they also do amazing gluten-free fish & chips. We had takeaway even though it's not advertised on their Web page there is a designated side for takeaways. Everything gluten-free is freshly cooked..... also they do gluten-free curry sauce 😋

Takeaway small haddock, chips, fish cake and curry sauce only £5! Massive portion! Tasted amazing, staff were friendly and food was fast! Highly recommend!

Nice location, but when the Internet says it closes at 10pm we didn't expect to be ushered out at 9pm. Another oddity, I asked about the portion sizes and was told "all papas are the same", well no they are apparently not, the Crystal peaks one the fish was a lot larger in the same size bracket, and the chips were cooked properly.

Been told how good this place was. Decided to try as we were in Sheffield. Started off well with polite lady showing us our table and giving us the menus. All down hill from there I am sorry to say, ordered medium cod and chips twice got haddock ? Ordered tata sauce had to ask for it again. Ordered brown bread and white again had to ask where it was. We had eaten most of our meal when the bread arrived. A stale white slice that looked like all down one side had been eaten. The brown slice was not much better. Left both on the same plate they were served. Not be going back sorry to say

Supposed to close at 9pm but when we arrived at 7.30 floors were being mopped and we were directed to the takeaway. Weren't impressed straight away. The girl who served us with 2 cod,chips and peas was cheerful and chatty while we waited. Portions come either small,medium or large. We ordered medium. On arrival back at home we opened our parcels. Peas were flavoursome, chips were nicely coloured and the batter on the fish was light and crispy. Pity the cod was tasteless after promising so much. Overall a disappointing evening and we won't be rushing back.

This has to be the worst fish and chips I have ever experienced. Went at the high of tea time so expected everything to be on form. Instead I had chips that were dried out. (The place was empty) and my fish cake in the first bite was littered with bones which immediately put me off. Further dissection of the fish cake showed grey fish and lots more bones. The haddock my husband was equally as bad all grey and still with skin on and same scenario with lots of bones. I telephoned immediately but not received a response and they were ‘too busy’ to answer it. Such a let down for the owners of this business who have ploughed big money into opening this place which at this rate will be closed by Christmas. My advise go to the Weatherby Whaler at Wakefield or whitbys if you don’t want to travel.

The restaurant was very quiet but that was okay. Ordering was quick and easy at the bar. There was no scampi but with plenty of choiceon the menu that was a quick fix. Waited for my drinks. One of the staff carried a drink to my table. All the staff were polite. One in particular Lawson was very good and attentive. He was polite and asked if everything was okay, it felt like nothing was too much for him, Again he brought the second round of drinks to the table. Lawson was also helping the other staff and showing them where things were. The food was lovely as always, I had the fishcakes this time. They were really tasty. Would recommend papas for some lovely fish and chips. Well done Lawson you made my day. 😊

I have diner here on a Tuesday night, I would say that the waitresses are doing their best to compensate the food taste. I think the chips are not the best I ever ate. Nothing difficult to do, just need to learn how to make them and it will be better.

One of the best places for fish and chips! What a great place and great staff!!

First time in this place and it was a good experience. The staff (Elliot and Mak) were new and tried really hard to provide good and personal service. Atmosphere is a bit lacking as there were only a few people in such a large building. Downside was that I had to wait too long for my food to come out ... but when the haddock, chips, mushy peas and curry sauce finally emerged it was pretty good. Good job overall and I'm sure it will keep getting better as it grows in popularity.

Table 20 arena sheffield 10 minutes ago. Chips dry old some mixed with hot chips.wrong pudding .dry chips on floor dust on ledge at back of seating could see food across on table .cleaner try moving tables dusty. young kids 12yrs to15yrs serving behind bar???? Been to takeaway today (Sunday) had to wait 35 mins for chips and rissole which were dire!! To say the least. Chips were old and dried out and rissole burnt... Will not be going again

Simply amazing. Service was friendly and polite. Prices were very good. And the food was off the scale, big portions, cooked to perfection. Was only waiting 10 minutes if that, for our order. And the icing on the cake was proper chip shop vinegar... and they don't to just fish n chips. There's plenty other stuff to choose from. Definitely coming back again. And decent prices for beer.😁😁

Had an amazing experience in the Sheffield Arena Papa's restaurant and takeaway! The staff went above and beyond, lots of gluten free options that taste lovely and the portions we're very generous. I would definitely return in future, they do a gluten free curry sauce that is the best I've tasted! Can't thank the staff enough for making our experience so enjoyable!

We had the special from the takeaway, everything was really nice cooked fresh only thing that let the place down was the lack of staff as there was one person in the restaurant and one person in the takeaway.

Used the takeaway service, service was a little slow, however food was fresh, hot and very tasty.

Very disappointing for a Sat night initially we the only group dinning the haddocks were great plaice lacked flavour Yorkshire fish very tasty. The meal was let down by the chips very bitty and some not cooked through

First time here and we were not disappointed such friendly staff,fab service clean surrounings,well presented tasty food will return for sure 😋

I've been here a few times and always been really nice. This time though the fish just didn't taste right. I don't know if it was overcooked or was just not fresh as it had that 'fishy smell' you could smell that very strongly coming from the kitchen so maybe a bad batch that day? Benefit of the doubt this time so hopefully better next time

Visited papas three weeks ago, thought I'd do update you'd be pleased to know that again the quality quantity was the same as my first visit and it was hot, so if you need fish & chips this is the place to go you won't be disappointed.

Over 25 mins to wait for a takeaway order which was oily and uncooked, ordered papas combo and papas classic, clearly was a new guy on fryer with a young girl and older female Manager just ordering him around with no help or checking his food, new guy was working hard doing his best but they just stood around and watched, no wonder most of my food went in the bin, Avoid the takeaway, at least in the restaurant you could send the food back.

Food was lovely but took forever even though we pre-ordered, some meals were incorrect. The bar staff was very rude

First time visitor. Very clean premises, great service. Food was outstanding. Will definitely be back.

Went with family and we all liked the food overall and portion sizes were ok. Not too busy at all. Food came quick enough but had to wait awhile for dessert that was ordered with the food as part of senior meal. Ordered pepsi max but think we may have been served diet pepsi. Battered halloumi was nice but I would've preffered a bigger plate as when I got the the chips underneath they tasted oily from the glaze on the halloumi. Tofu was very plain, used a different batter so it was more like the batter you get on chicken nuggets. Yes, I know it's tofu but it wasn't cooked in anything. Chips were same as other chippies and were enjoyed. Scampi and mushy peas were enjoyed by the person having them and the kid enjoyed their chicken nuggets and they're a fussy eater even when it comes to chicken nuggets so must've been decent. Gravy somewhat expensive. Ketchup definitely not heinz. Would go back but not in a rush.

First time at this Papa's branch and being close to closing time the fish was being cooked to order, a full choice was available and after a short wait my order was ready. No difference in the quality of the food from the ones that we got from the coast, all this complemented by an efficient and excellent staff, will be returning.

Seemed a little short staffed but food was great and we didn't wait too long considering we was a table of 11 x
