Freshly cooked fish was absolutely wonderful, chips were 'OK' but we all like them different. I definitely would go again.

My first visit and the place is utterly clean and well presented. I loved the name and hoped lobster was on the menu or monkfish. After a very long drive home I called in, the name lured me in. I couldn’t be bothered to cook I was looking for a meal to take home quickly I found myself waiting 15 minutes, I wouldn’t mind if you told me that or if there was a sign to tell you “ food cooked to order “ you could spend the time doing a little shop at the co op for wine rather than be kept waiting not knowing what’s going on how long is the wait Or use the TV to entertain and improve the customer wait experience, however, the fish was cooked fresh and it was beautiful well worth the wait, crispy batter white fish delicious I’ve marked it down by 1 star due to chips ! during my wait for the fish the 3 people waiting before me had the chips that had already been cooked sometime before ( they looked good but soft and warm) I was given the last remaining chips from the warming bay …. But my fish was freshly cooked,! if only fresh chips had been cooked when the fish was cooking it would have been 5 star plus. I hope you take reviews from a helpful pov and not negatively? You have a cracking outlet and you could be amazing if you listen to your locals, after all we are the ones who will keep returning and not just passing trade. Maybe engage with customers whilst they are waiting - reassure not long now? Love the fact you can dine in but it was roped off so not sure? Maybe a notice to tell you when and how and can you bring wine? Amazing cod though so thank you.

I have no idea where these negative reviews are coming from I have lived here all my life and waited for a good fish and chip shop, since this opened my next nearest one worth a visit is Dodworth, great service, great fish and chips, clearly this is a case of people well being people, definatly worth a stop

These were the best chips i’ve ever had. And the batter on the sausage was good quality. You can tell they value cooking and using high quality ingredients. Not your average chippy! Thank you.

As with many other reviews owner tried to over charge me. Charged for 5 items when I ordered 2. When I explained, he took attitude and started shouting to cancel it really loud like it was my fault. Aggressive attitude, very rude, had to ask for a fork and he threw them into my hand and took a very sarcastic tone. Shouting at the two young girls working for him, one looked like she might cry. All in front of customers His attitude on his replys to reviews says it all. Gets a bad review and replies saying that thanks to us young girls are gonna lose their jobs and not be able to feed their kids, when really it's thanks to him . Very tense unwelcoming atmosphere. Food lovely but wouldn't go back as he's obviously very hostile and I worry he would work out who I was from my review (common theme) so would be scared he would do something to my food. I'm giving 1 star for atmosphere as that's the lowest possible but if I could it would be a minus 5. EDIT: Well his reply says it all doesn't it! Swearing at customers calling them names! WOW. Such a shame cause you're food actually isn't bad you could have a lovely chip shop but hopefully your disgusting attitude will destroy your business sooner rather than later. How anyone would want to spend their money in your shop I will never know, and I bet you get no repeat custom. I would rather spend my money where someone appreciates my custom, or can at least pretend to! You're a mess, remember your a vendor of chips that's all, pipe down 🤣

Freshly cooked haddock. Batter perfecto. Chips yummy. Excellent service and the guy even gave us a pot of delicious 'real' mushies to dip our chips in. A REAL gem. Thank you.

Despite numerous excuses regarding the potato crop , other fish and chip shops don’t seem to encounter this issue. It is very disappointing and unfortunate. Consequently ,we will not be returning. We anticipate a discourteous and abrupt response from the proprietor Nick !

We had quite a big order as we’re a big group staying nearby but we were met by the nicest people who were so friendly and chatty. The food was unbelievably good and we even got surprised with crispy bits of batter and such with our food that was so tasty. All the portions were just the right size and we’re now sad to be leaving as we want more! Thank you!

The owner Nick(?) is probably the rudest bloke in a 100-mile radius. It's a shame because the food was alright. Alas, his personality will likely be the downfall of his business. Edit: My response to the owner: I am a real person and (presumably) all the other people leaving negative reviews are real too. I don't normally review places I visit, hence the lack of activity on my profile. Unfortunately, you were (and continue to be) rude enough that I have decided to engage just this once. However, if the idea of fake profiles comforts you and allows you to place the blame on others, rather than looking inward and figuring out what you're doing wrong and how you could improve yourself and your business, then that's your prerogative. I hope your life gets better.

This was our 3rd or 4th time visiting our most local chippy and sadly, the past couple of times we have been left feeling rather disappointed. The staff are nice and friendly enough - only reason for not giving 5 stars was the two ladies working yesterday evening were more focussed on finishing their personal conversation than coming to serve a waiting customer whilst I was waiting for our order. The batter was tasty and the curry sauce too, not too peppery but a nice warmth to it. The biggest let down yet again was the chips. Either they are being blanched and not being left to rest long enough or the temperature is not high enough when the potatoes are being put in the fryers (or both). They were soggy (yet not quite fully cooked on the inside) and very greasy (soaked all the way through 3 layers of paper) and the flavour was very much like the oil wasn’t fresh enough. Sadly because of this, we will be trying out somewhere else next time.

We stopped here for a fish tea but ended up just having dry chip butties in the car as the seating area inside was cordoned off. Was with our toddler grandson who had a sausage meal that seemed good value and he ate pretty much all of it. Bread cakes would have been nicer buttered. Felt a bit sorry for the girl trying to serve customers in the shop and take orders on the phone. Didn’t mind the wait for the food on a busy Saturday tea time and the chips were ok. Not very welcoming having all the tables cordoned off, we walked up from the park so a seat and table would have been most welcome. Husband walked back to bring the car so we had a place to sit. The table at the door only had 2 chairs and didn’t want to eat outside on a busy road. Shame really as we heard good things, might try again when we next visit the park. Hopefully next time the tables inside will be available to use for customers dining in or customers waiting for their orders instead of standing in the doorway. We definitely would have ordered full meals if we had the option to eat inside.

We had 2 portions of the tea time special and they were absolutely delicious. Portion size was very generous. I’m 58 and I’ve tasted many fish & chips around Great Britain in my time and I can honestly say they were one of the best I’ve had and tasted. The gentleman that served us came across very friendly and was very helpful when we asked for a large sausage for our pet dogs. Will definitely be calling again Thank you

Been to the Purple Lobster a fair few times now, never had a problem. Fish and chips have always been nice and the staff have always been really friendly and polite. The portion sizes are good. Absolutely no complaints at all. Would recommend.

Probably the worst fish ans chip shop I’ve ever been to staff were arrogant. I ordered fish and chips the chips were undercooked soggy as owt and the fish tasted like it was out of river don sure if seen him down there fishing. Won’t be going again overpriced would not recommend going again I recommend four lanes little further down the road but worth it.

The food is good and the staff are fab. I'm sure it's not the case but the boss seems to be quite shouty towards the staff each time I've been in.

Awful fish and chip shop. Went tonight just for chips and a fish cake. Been before and haven’t liked it but we had been busy and this was a last resort. It didn’t fail to disappoint. The fish cake went in the bin. Think it must have been taken straight out of the freezer and fried. The potatoes in it were uncooked raw in fact. Slivers of grey fish bits between two slabs of hard potato. Called a Yorkshire fish cake…definitely letting Yorkshire down. Such a shame a good fish&chip shop in Oughtibridge would have been great. Proprietor always seems grumpy. Definitely won’t ever go back. Not cheap either.

Fish was a strange colour and dry. Please also a very strange colour and dull flavour. Chips were chips. They were fine. Will not be returning.

I do quite a few reviews on fish and chip shops and must say this was possibly the best fish and chips I've had in a long time. It is absolutely fantastic and I would highly recommend the journey.

Honestly never had to throw away the fish before from a chippy. Batter was like kind of sweet for some reason, fish was very low quality or not stored correctly. Think the chips was supposed to be twice cooked, but just tasted stale (bare in mind it had only just opened) wouldn’t recommend at all. **reply to owner (as unsure how to) No idea what your onabout with the “bags I had left” I didn’t even have any bags or come back in lol I sat in the car had two bites of your food and threw it in the bin. Then went to Coplands next door for our lunch, so did my colleague. No need to get salty over a honest review, I don’t usually leave reviews but this is by far the worse chippy I have ever had. Especially to throw the fish away 🤦‍♂️

Tried it the first time, and it was absolutely gorgeous food, so we went back again the next week again it was gorgeous food and staff was friendly, as all food is cooked fresh expect to wait at busy times but in my opinion its worth the wait, they only take cash also so make sure to go to a cash point first

Been to the Purple Lobster a good few times. Every time it's been great, lovely chips, fish always cooked fresh, staff always friendly. No complaints at all.

Called on my way home. Ordered homemade fishcake and chips. The fishcake had more batter than potato and fish, it had no flavour. The chips were greasy and flavourless. Will not be visiting again

Set in a small shared car park along side a bakery and co_op it has free parking. The newish place is a lovely traditional fish n chips shop. Prices are reaso able and the quality was really good even offered bag of scraps. There is an indoor seating area. The place was very clean and the staff really friendly. cash only due to the expensive of machines for their business but there is a cash machine outside the co-op. An inviting new place definitely recommend. Ps also if you reuse your curry peas etc carton you get money off your next order of peas ect. Had fish the batter crispy and light fish beautiful. Chips lovely. I ordered large chips and large cod with extra portion of chips and a curry cost £11.90 meal deals were available.

Inlaw recommended this chippy so we tied it. We ordered a (supposed) large haddock, chips and curry. We will not be returning, haddock the size of the parm of my hand and on the dry side, chips underdone and priced higher than normal. So we will travel that extra couple of miles for future offerings.

Been here many times and never had any problems although I can see why people get annoyed with the wait. BUT it's worth the wait. There's nothing worse than food that's been kept warm for long periods of time. Maybe they could be prepared for a "teatime rush" & just have certain food ready. Portion sizes are good, quality is good and staff are always polite. I travel from Stocksbridge as my local chip shops are either never open or food is poor. I'd recommend this chippy 👍

Worst fish and chips I've had in a long time. The food was terrible (sort of tasted like nail varnish somehow), it was expensive and service wasnt much better. They got my order wrong and charged me wrong! Avoid and go to four lanes, a little bit further down the road but order is always correct, good is amazing and service is second to none

I think David & Susan's reviews are very unfair, the food is fabulous. If there was a problem with the food why didn't they go & discuss this in person so it could be rectified. I don't think they have given a good review on any eatery. Please do not believe these reviews go and check it out for yourselves, very friendly staff and food is really good too. ☺

Disagree with the “tasteless rissoles” comment. These are homemade rissoles freshly prepared and cooked to order - and as such are absolutely delicious, a real favourite of mine and my daughters and hands down the best around.

Called today for lunch how disappointed was we even though we had to wait for everything to be cooked very disappointed warm chips watery gravy and tasteless fish other meal was homemade rissole chips and cold mushy peas both meals no flavour whatsoever staff friendlyish won’t be going there again

Worst fish and chips I've ever had. The food was awful and expensive. I had a 50 minute wait and behind me they were still taking orders while the number of people waiting food to be cooked just continued to build. Absolutely clueless management! It was the worst service I've ever received and on top of that the owner was quite rude to a number of people. They also got my order wrong 4 times and overcharged me by £13! It was a simple order of 3 fish and 2 chips, no idea how they got everything so wrong. Avoid this place and just go down the road to Four Lanes which is constantly delicious.

An excellent new fish and chip shop on the outskirts of Oughtibridge, near Sheffield. Quite an upmarket ambience but with normal chippie pricing. The fish was absolutely excellent. It seems to be cooked to order so it hasn't been kept hot and turning chewy as it can in many chippies. Excellent chips too. A lovely classy looking seating area, but we took our dinner home, the way we like it. Friendly service, just be aware it's cash only, but there is a cash machine outside if you are caught short, so to speak.

Tried it out as my local was closed. Price was a lot more but was understandable due to in being a new business and fairly new premises. Portion size was half of what we usually get but none the less was nice. Staff/management did seem overwhelmed when a few people came in to order, a lot of confusion on there behalf.

Lovely staff. Reasonably priced lunch time offers. Nice and friendly front of house staff. Be prepared to wait for a couple of minutes if you want freshly prepared fish and chips at less busy times. No fish that's been left to stand for hours.

Fish and chips very nice but the service is a bit of a comedy show. Hopefully something they'll iron out over time.

Good quality, decent portion, lunchtime special. Argument between the staff including choice Anglo Saxon slightly off putting but hey, everyone has an off day. Not sure why I got a sarcastic grimace when I popped back in for forks but there was a row going on so probably to do with to that.

Best fish and chips I've had locally. Generous size fillets, excellent crisp, non-greasy batter cooked in front of you, good quality curry sauce and authentic chip shop chips made with a decent quality potato. Cash only but there's an ATM at co-op.

Absolutely rank. Terrible service. Blind leading the blind at the fryers. Burnt mushy peas!! Can't make it up!! Half an hour wait. Avoid!
