Met family for a meal , really enjoyed the evening great food and we will be returning in the future when we meet up again . Lovely pub

Popped in for a snack while travelling and was so pleased we did food was beautiful and the staff very friendly , we will return when passing again

Attended a family do in the function room and had a great time, the service at the bar was quick and the place was clean as a whistle. The function room was plenty big enough, we'd recommend it for future parties etc.

The roast potatoes were nice , other than that it was terrible Cauliflower was dry , carrots were hard I ordered something off the menu and it didn't arrive, but I did get a refund Drinks overpriced

This guy is current landlord of Fairways Inn he’s not happy that I sent a google review in as Marstons hadn’t replied to being barred from Fairways Inn (so that might be a reason you’ve not seen me in their even though I’ve been drinking and supporting Fairways Inn since 1984 and next year Fairways is 50 years old which is a great achievement) for a social media post re St George’s Day, so he got his staff to put fake reviews on my business google listing Also he wanted new admin of the S12 Community Page and sent it in anonymously as he hadn’t got the bottle to put his name to it For your info the said post got took down the following morning On St George’s Day along with my brother we went about celebrating St George’s Day by visiting a few boozers (Fairways/Red Lion and Birley) and at the same time gave out my election leaflets to businesses around Gleadless Townend After having a great day I thought back and thought there was a lack of flags etc celebrating this day in these pubs compared to what they would do on St Patrick’s I did a post on S12 Community Page on Facebook that it was a poor show by these 3 pubs that they weren’t celebrating our national day The landlord at The Fairways took unbridge to this post and wanted a public apology or I’d be barred, he even said I didn’t support local businesses even though I’d been drinking in The Fairways since 1984 and regular recommended the place for a great place to have a function as the function area overlooks the golf course, but the landlord forgot all about that Following morning I took the post down but wouldn’t give him a public apology as I thought I had a fair point, so that meant I was barred Abit later he sent a message into the S12 Community Page anonymously (didn’t have the bottle to put his name to it) wanting me removed as Admin even though I’d set this page up 7 years ago, so he got removed from the group Fast forward to Sunday and I played in a golf comp and one of members said you’ll be ok if you just go into the outside area but the landlord came out, wasn’t happy somebody had bought me a beer and man handled me off the premises and at same time tried to knock the glass out of my hand So if you don’t see me in the Fairways, that’s the reason why Ps plenty of other pubs in S12 with a happy landlords about 😉 Live for Today, not Tomorrow

We have had a few Sunday carverys recently but today (4 feb) was a total disaster. We booked a table for 2pm as we couldn't get one the week before when we went on spec. When we arrived the bar was busy and the queue for the carvery was the biggest we have seen. We were told that if we ordered from the menu it would be at least 40 mins but we were there for the carvery anyway. After queueing at least 20 mins we found that the joints were non-existent plus the veg wanted replenishing. Cauliflower cheese was brought out and so was the roast potatoes. I had about the last of the turkey and my partner received a tiny amount of the gammon. The cabbage dish was empty so I putbon my plate, carrots, mash pots, peas and roast potatoes. I left my carrots as they tasted sour. During the time that we were eating our meal we didn't see any joints being brought out. It was very busy and there is quite clearly a staff shortage. There seemed to be quite a few people complaining. It's a shame as places like this soon get a bad name and we haven't been disappointed before. I really hope todays experience was a one off x

Such a badly organised carvery. obviously not enough staff in the kitchen You get your choice of meat then wait for someone to replace the empty veg dishes then wait again for ages to get roast potatoes brought out, then your meal is cold. I had mine refunded because of this and ended up having a starter. It’s a shame really because the carvery is always good. Friends ordered deserts which took 30 minutes to come out. I think for such a busy place on a Sunday and the fact the kitchen can’t cope maybe have a smaller menu or just do carvery. Always had a good meal here but put off completely now used to be the only decent pub around that area for food.

Came for an impromptu evening meal. My partner ordered a carvery and went to collect it while I waited over 40 minutes for my burger, which arrived after a prompt. I ordered a rocky road ice cream sundae, again waited 30 minutes, they brought one out within a minute but it wasn’t the item that I had ordered. I received a blood orange brownie instead. The place wasn’t even busy

Christmas Dinner absolutely appalling! This was booked 4 months prior to Christmas Day. I am intolerant to wheat/gluten and nuts and make me ill if I consume the tiniest amount to the point I have been hospitalised twice before so I know I need to be extra vigilant when having anything that hasn’t been prepared myself. I was assured my meal was gluten free and was even given a gluten free menu to look at, I knew I would be limited to what i could have and out of the soup or chicken terrine I picked the later. When it came out the bread was obviously not gluten free so it was took away and told that dish isn’t gluten free but I could have prawn cocktail so i politely agreed but this also came out with ordinary bread so that was took away and 3rd time lucky I got a prawn and salmon dish with obviously microwaved bread that must have been frozen. I was having lamb as this was on the gluten free menu too . We had to queue for our meal at the carvery when I eventually got to the front I told them mines a gluten free lamb shank , i was told well you cant have Yorkshire pudding, stuffing of roasters but the gravy is gluten free . I had been in for my mum’s birthday 2 weeks before and my roasters were put in the oven and for £53.00 I dont think it would have been too much to get a gluten free Yorkshire pudding and stuffing. I wasn’t offered extra veg or anything just the pity full amount I was given with the pre plated lamb in the gravy it came with. 3 sprouts , 2 carrots and 2 forkfuls of mash I was starting with pain in my stomach and started bloating. It was questioned about the lamb and turns out the gravy was not gluten free after all . I asked for a refund I was told I could just go and get a carvery instead but I told the female who came over , im sorry I don’t trust you 3 attempts at my starter and then my main haas gluten in too can you imagine if my nut allergy was severe and my dish came with nut in it? It could kill someone! I’m then told my desert is definitely gluten free the cherry bomb only thing I could have on gluten free menu and guess what it came with a cigar wafer on top. It was a joke. There was 14 of us out for lunch which was for my 92 year old mum, we had lost our dad earlier this year and mums health had declined and had to be rehoused in a residential home giving up the family home in September, then the Friday before xmas I found out i have thyroid cancer and really didn’t feel like going out but put all aside for mum and it was ruined by incompetent , under staffed , over stressed staff. As a result I am still in pain and unable to eat as everything is inflamed and aggravated by the food , the little bit I had has caused. Never again ! Then i get a response from the owner saying my review is fabricated utter rubbish but this along with evidence will be sent to the FSA.

I went to the Fairway Inn today and was so pleased that it is now back to how it used to be, in regard to service, pleasant attentive staff and good food. We all had carvery and it was hot and good quality food, cooked well. I would recommend you give it a try, as I think a lot of people who used to come here, went elsewhere when it deteriorated. So I would like to congratulate the new managers on making it somewhere worth visiting again. I certainly plan a return visit for sometime in the future.

I visited the Fairways Inn on a busy Sunday afternoon and was greated by the lovely Mya who showed me to my table she was very friendly and polite and extremely bubbly, i then went to the bar and was served by the lovely Vickie who took my order and asked if i had any allergies or intolerances she then brought my knife and folk to my table as i forgot it whilst i was at the bar, I then went to the carvery station and was served by the friendly member of staff who i believe was called Ruby who was very kind and polite, the food was amazing a lot better than it was 6 months ago it was cold and didnt taste very nice but this time it was all so tasty you can definitely tell its under new management and the staff are a credit to you. I will be visiting again very soon.

I visited the fairways Inn and it was exceptional with friendly and welcoming staff who had smiles on their faces. They were very courteous and approachable. They asked if I had any allergens and they showed me to my table and recommended the mix grill. The food arrived soon after and it was top class, steak perfectly cooked nice from the egg and a great sized portion. The lovely lady came and asked if the food ok and it was amazing. I would highly recommend this place for a great food and atmosphere.

I went here yesterday with my partner for a Sunday roast and the cleanliness is absolutely appalling. When going up to get my carvery the employee handed me my plate with my meat on and what I can only describe as slimy food covered the bottom of it and dried food all on the sides. I informed the worker and she changed my plate for me by sliding the meats onto another, maybe I should of been abit clearer but I didn’t really want meat that had been on a dirty plate but that’s besides the point, when handed the new plate AGAIN is had all dried food around it. Totally put me off my food.

We held our wedding there. Exceptional, Lesley was so professional, catered to our every need and I would recommend the service they give. Thank you for making our day so special xxxx

The carvery here is spot on! There’s always a good choice of veg & the roast potatoes are 😋 The mash is lump free & creamy & the meat is lovely & tender & just pulls apart. We have never ever had a bad carvery here & can’t fault it at all. The price too is very reasonable. Keep it up guys! Fab 👍🏻

The carvery ran out of meat and the potatoes were replaced with chips and the toilets are grotty. Also you no longer can put your own roast potatoes on and the mash was stodgy and lumpy. The pub is under new management and will not be returning until it’s under new management again!

When we saw the prices on the menu we were a bit concerned that the quality of the food might not be too good. We could have not been more wrong. It was excellent value for money. Good ingredients, well cooked and presented. The staff were very attentive. Highly recommend you give it a chance.

31st July 2023 Came to the Fairway for a carvery and was disappointed to see there was no gravy along with lumpy mash. Rest of the meal (especially the Yorkshire Puddings) were nice as well as the friendly bar staff. However, the Head Chef serving carvery’s was unexpectedly rude when my dad was splitting two plates to share with my baby brother and accused him of theft even though the meal was already payed for. All in all, not bad for the price of the meals. Would potentially go again but on a Sunday.

Absolutely terrible carvery today, almost everyone left a 3/4 full plate because it was inedible. I had to come home and cook a Sunday lunch because we couldn't eat the carvery from here. Instant mash made with just water (like wallpaper paste). Beef like old shoe leather (no one could get their teeth through it). Yorkshire puddings like Frisbees. Gravy was coloured dishwater.I'm not kidding this was the worst carvery I've ever been to! Will never go again. So many almost full plates of food just left on tables because people couldn't eat it.

Horrible horrible horrible, my parents always insist on going here because it's close to them. Everytime the food is rubbish but palletable even though expensive for cheap small rubbish food. Decided to have the carvery today and what a disgusting thing. Gammon crumbled it had been there that long (2pm in a half empty pub) obviously been re heated and the beef looked dry and burnt. 1 yorkshire pudding that was hard and they put 3 dry roast potatoes on your plate ( never ate at a place where they limit roast potatoes)with a spoon of dry stuffing. Then the veg what a dry disgusting mix of inedible things, had some new potatoes due to the lack of roast potatoes and 🤮🤮🤮🤮 not cooked and covered in some sickening garlic and herb butter that just over powered everything. Everything was dry and must have been there all week. If you don't sell enough to keep things fresh and make a profit take it off the menu.

We paid to have a party for our 6yr old birthday. For such a fantastic price we got the function room with bar, DJ, Party entertainers, party bags and food for 2 hours. The room was great the food was fantastic and the entertainers were fab! Our daughter had such a great time with her family and friends and I would definitely recommend it to anyone. Hemos comido muchas comidas en los Fairways, pero gradualmente se han vuelto incomestibles. Visitamos la semana pasada, nuestra primera visita desde el cierre. Nos llevaron a nuestra mesa, pero no nos dieron información sobre cómo pedir comida o bebida. Después de unos minutos me fui en busca de un menú sin tener ni idea de si era servicio de mesa o servicio de bar. Resultó ser lo último. Hubo un retraso en la comida ordenada del menú de 40 a 50 minutos, por lo que optamos por carveries con la nieta más joven tomando una sopa de tomate que, por cierto, resultó ser tomate y albahaca, así que simplemente se comió el pan. El tipo que cortaba la carne también estaba sirviendo los otros artículos. No había patatas asadas (¡una espera de 40 minutos para las frescas!) Ni relleno. Los pudines de Yorkshire se parecían a pequeños frisbees y ¡para eso deberían haberse utilizado! ! Creo que una motosierra ni siquiera podría cortarlos. La carne de res era tan dura que podría haber tenido suelas de zapatos, las zanahorias estaban frías y gomosas y el puré de papas suave. Pedí hablar con alguien porque la comida no era comestible. Una joven camarera fue corriendo a la cocina y regresó para ofrecer un 50% de descuento en un asador en la siguiente visita, lo cual rechacé de inmediato, aparentemente el gerente estaba demasiado ocupado en la cocina para hablar conmigo. Mis dos nietas tenían un postre gratis cada una, que aparentemente era mucho mejor que la principal desastrosa. El esposo pidió una sidra Thatchers, pero la chica detrás de la barra dijo que había un problema con la bomba, así que la llevaría a la mesa. Cuando lo trajo, lo dejó sobre la mesa y dijo 'eso es lo más parecido a una pinta que puedo conseguir'. . . . ¿Qué? ? ?Me temo que si la mala calidad de la comida y el servicio continúa, las puertas de los Fairways se cerrarán para siempre. Ciertamente no volveremos a menos que las cosas mejoren.

Si no hubiéramos comprado una bebida, nos hubiéramos ido. Opté por el solomillo en su lugar, gran error, fue difícil y con mucha grasa, luego supe que una tabla de 4 había enviado allí. Mi hermana tenía cigalas, le dijeron que no podía tener la oferta en oferta en el momento del 50% de descuento ya que costaba menos de 10, bastante seguro de que este no es el caso, ya que incluso puede obtener un macdonlds a mitad de precio. Cuando llegó, parecía recocido. Nos sentamos en el invernadero, la alfombra está asquerosamente sucia, ¿por qué no se renovó ni se limpió mientras el pub había estado cerrado? ? . Si estás pensando en ir al pub a comer algo, no te molestes cuando finalmente nos sirvan, nos dijeron que podría ser de 30 a 45 minutos de espera, así que dijimos que estaba bien, solo esperar 1 hora y 10 para tener 2 niños. comidas que eran terribles, parecía comida congelada de ojo de pájaro, preguntamos por qué tomó tanto tiempo y la respuesta fue que tenían poco personal, es una absoluta desgracia

I went along with some friends really looking forward to the carvery having been before. We were all so disappointed. The food was scoop sized, no option of meat having only one available, veg consisted of sweet corn (which no one wanted) carrots and peas with a small scoop of potatoes. The gravy was presented on the plate with a small jug giving less room for the carvery which was limited as above in its entirety. There was a hardened square of stuffing on a hard Yorkshire pudding. In truth the meal was child sized and luke warm. We mentioned how disappointed we were on receipt. This was not a carvery simply a sort of school meal. The staff were lovely but afraid the meal very disappointing. I understand how difficult it is at the moment put don't waste your money expecting anything other than above it won't be the piping hot mixture of veg we were served before :(

Today (5/07/20) we came to the fairways for the first time since it closed due to Covid 19, me and my family are regular customers on Sundays as we usually come in every other Sunday for a roast. The staff members have always been very welcoming and friendly but I can’t say we had the same experience today. Usually we get welcomed and seated as soon as we walk in by a lovely young lady. Today we waited a few minutes until a different waitress than usual came to seat us, she seemed very stressed and subdued. I then went up to the bar to order my drinks and our Sunday roast, the bar staff where the same ones I recognised from before and where as lovely as ever. The kind gentleman who I believe was the bar manager explained the changes due to social distancing to me explaining how the Sunday dinner will now be served from the kitchen to our table. Due to the food coming straight from the kitchen I believed it would be much nicer and fresher but sadly that wasn’t the case. The meat was extremely dry and the food was cold and bland. I told a young boy about the roast but he seemed very upset an run down so when he asked if I wanted to speak to a manager I said no it will be okay and told him he is doing a great job for the amount of staff they had on. Today’s experience is completely different to before lock down, there was different waitress/waiters than before and seemed like they didn’t no what they was doing. The wait for the food took along time and came out cold and tasteless. For the time being I won’t be returning to this pub until life is a bit more back to normal and hopefully when me and my family do return we will see the lovely welcoming faces as we did before. I understand times like this are difficult for a business but it was not a nice experience today sadly.

food is immaculate and fresh, homemade food everytime, very filing it’s absolutely amazing, 10/10 proper niceee

No he estado aquí antes, y no volveré a ir. Casi 40 minutos de espera y el lugar NO estaba ocupado. No me importaría, pero la comida no valió la pena la espera: ¡guisantes fríos y pescado blanco que resultó gris! Entonces, si estás pasando por este lugar, continúa, ¡busca otro lugar!

Nice hot carvery fresh and tasty. Partner enjoyed his steak. A tasty and reasonably priced meal, with drinks under £20.

Totally unorganised Christmas meal at fairways I booked for 13 people for our wedding anniversary on 21st December when I booked months ago I asked for seating in the conservatory I was told yes no problem on arrival which I had ordered procecco on arrival at £3 per person we didn’t get they had forgot we was seated in the middle of the pub with cutlery thrown on with a few Christmas crackers we was sat waiting for our starters for a long time everyone was hungry the carvery was very poor no sprouts WTF it’s Christmas every one has sprouts with a Christmas meal lumpy mash everything was cold the turkey was also dry not a seasonal meal in my opinion the waitress was apologetic about everything the deserts came and we was told the cheesecake we had ordered from the Christmas menu wasn’t available so we had to have an alternative to our dissatisfaction and to top it all off announcements was made the bar was now closed to the public as there was a private party so we wasn’t allowed to buy anything from the bar what a joke !! everyone stared leaving and so did we we went to another pub on route home Marstons brewery need to get things sorted in this pub clearly it’s Not enough staff to cope with public demand on a festive meal they had advertised and encouraging people to book there Christmas meal here and then not enough staff for the waitressing the ones they did have was running around like headless chickens !!! our night truly spoiled never again !!!

Called in for a carvery on Monday night,and the pub was nearly empty but ww paid for our meal and had to wait for someone to serve on the carvery, the man behind the counter kept apologising as nearly all the plates were dirty the food was disgusting too , the Yorkshire puddings tasted old and shattered when you cut them the meat was tough and dry ,and the vegetables were cold and dry we asked to speak to a manager and was told she was on a break and somebody else would see us 25 minutes later a lad came and told us the food was disgusting and shouldn’t have been served so why was it ? Poor standards and bad customer service won’t be returning

I came here with my Mum and Niece at 4pm today, we paid for 3 carverys and all of them were freezing cold. The server kept apologising as all the plates he pulled out were dirty and stained. The meat was all bone dry, the gravy was so salty it hurt your mouth. The roast potatoes were the driest I’ve ever eaten. I asked to speak to a manager and waited 25 minutes. Shocking place, awful customer service.

Been to Fairways for a few times with the Mrs and the family, always good food at a reasonable price

Had a party there last night and the venue was a great size for what qe wanted, reasonably priced drinks however i wouldn't get them to cater again. £270+ and didn't get half of the things that was on the list which meant there wasn't enough food for everyone. There was 5 items missing that should have been there and for the price i was quite frankly disgusted that people went home from my party hungry. Also was told the money i paid for the room was a deposit but you don't get it back...

Had my wedding venue here. Was appalling, the food we paid hundreds for for 35 guests, wouldn't even feed 15 people so was a waste of money.we ordered gluten free food for 1 guests and was not provided. We paid for there dj which was 2 hours late leaving my guests to help him bring all equipment in to be able to set up (He comfermed the time on 3 occasions). When paying for there services no one was anywhere to be seen for hours on end leaving guests to go to main pub section.i have since emailed twice and still no reply. They are quick to take your money but DO NOT CARE ABOUT ITS CUSTOMER. Don't waste your time there are better Venues for same price with excellent service.

Llegamos durante un almuerzo ajetreado, solo dos de nosotros. La camarera detrás del bar parecía distraída mientras tomaba mi pedido, tal vez por otros problemas en el restaurante. Esperamos al menos 45 minutos para nuestra comida y era simplemente comida de pub estándar, algunos de ellos apenas tibios. ¡La señora de al lado estaba sola y se quejó a la camarera de que había estado esperando más de una hora! Ella canceló su pedido y solicitó un reembolso. Después de haber trabajado en la hospitalidad, ¡parece que el restaurante solo necesita una buena patada en la parte trasera! ¡Más personal, más ganas!

Por lo general, puede garantizar un asado decente aquí, solo tuve la más decepcionante. Carne absolutamente no comestible más carne que la carne: el pavo sabía mucho a carne calentada procesada barata. El pudín y el relleno de Yorkshire estaban bien: las verduras estaban secas, la zanahoria y el maíz dulce obviamente habían salido por un tiempo, las papas asadas estaban fritas, no quedaba puré y el queso de coliflor estaba duro con una horrible salsa líquida, que nunca había visto ningún queso. He estado para almorzar varias veces después de jugar al golf en el campo de golf Birley Wood al lado. Este pub es muy útil. Hacen ofertas especiales la mayoría de los días de la semana y los martes puedes obtener Steak & Chips por 6. Es una grupa o un solomillo y generalmente tengo el solomillo. Tengo que decir que los filetes son muy buenos y de gran valor. Sin duda recomendaría comer aquí. Sin embargo, las cervezas de barril tiradas a mano no son buenas. Es una casa de Marston y generalmente sirven EPA y Saddletank. No sé si no obtienen suficiente a través de la colocación o no limpian las tuberías correctamente, pero la cerveza no es buena y en varias ocasiones hemos tenido que devolver pintas. . Para ser justos, son reemplazados sin discusión, pero es frustrante que no puedan conservar mejor la cerveza. Le he dado a este lugar "muy bueno" por la comida, pero le daría "pobre" por su cerveza, así que en general se presenta como "promedio".

Estábamos de visita con un amigo de Australia, así que no queríamos ninguna decepción. . . . .

Having been a customer here for many years off and on it has started to take a turn for the better. The atmosphere is improving and its worth a try for meals and just a drink.

Disappointed that the vegan menu is now very limited indeed. Left my burger as looked like something worse than my 2 cats had heaved up. Wasn't asked once if everything was alright with my food. Whereas I noticed folk on other tables nearby where asked.so essentially I paid around £6 for a handful of chips. Very sad as was out to celebrate my partner's birthday.

Quite basic and not great food. I received the wrong desert and the food is pretty poor. This place is certainly not a gastropub.

Came here a month ago and had Mega fish platter X2 .

Five of us went to dine, our meals were delivered in three lots after waiting for an hour after ordering (and this was a Monday tea-time the place wasn't very busy). The first two of us had almost finished when the last two meals arrived. The chips must have been cooked a while and left in the oven as they were dry and sunken. My burger was overcooked as was my friends steak however the ones who had fish said it was very nice. The desserts were lovely and arrived almost straight away as did our coffees. The staff were very pleasant and apologetic for our initial wait unfortunately, we will not be dining here again.

Book table for Saturday proof on phone i had booked turned up no table available no record of me booking said I could have a table for half hour no apology unable to speak to manage kids running place rubbish

Went today for lunch. Two of us had cowboy burger chips and salad. Burgers were dried up and tastless and chips under cooked and hard. Waste of money

We visit here regularly and it's good basic pub grub but we've been again tonight and why can't they cook the chips properly - on the same plate are some OK and others undercooked and hard.! How hard can it be?

Mega breakfast - what a joke - I’m still starving hungry....

Just had theeee best carvery in ages, got admit it's years since we were last here. Going to be coming back very often now. Great staff, relaxed atmosphere. Picture says it all.
