Called in this evening as we were passing for a bite to eat, whilst the pub had just opened so we had to wait a short while for the kitchen to open, I can honestly say it was worth it. The food was delicious. All 4 meals were freshly prepared and served and was well worth it. Delicious home cooked food.

The worst meal I have ever eaten in a pub. I have come home feeling quite upset that I had to pay for such awful food. Frozen meal starters, over cooked pasta and vegetables which were hardly edible. Chips that weren't cooked properly .I cannot believe this sort of food is served and also the price of it! A really unpleasant experience.

I was with friends for my birthday, though I just thought we were having a normal pub lunch.... but no, this was no ordinary Carvery roast, this was a Halsey Arms Carvery Roast & it was absolutely divine!! The best roast meal I've had in ages. Absolutely delicious, loads to choose from - venison, beef, pork loin, turkey breast & the lamb had gone! Beautiful roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, mashed potato, cabbage, carrots, swede, gravy, horseradish sauce, apple sauce, cranberry sauce, so many options 😋😋😋 I had the pork loin, which was delicious & my friends had the venison, which they said was "melt in the mouth"... I highly recommend this lovely pub, friendly staff, amazing food!! Bon appétit! Thank you for a wonderful lunch!!

After the previous nights experience at another hostelry, we arrived here hoping to get a reasonable meal at a reasonable price. Our luck was in at Halsey Arms, a nice country pub. We were seated in a quiet part of the pub, a good sign & the bar person quickly took our drinks & food order. We order fairly standard pub grub & the food & service were great, served hot & promptly with a smile from the barperson who seemed to doing it all by herself. We'd recommend this establishment to anybody as it did what its supposed to, served good food & drink at reasonable cost. Well happy to give the staff a good tip. We cant wait to go back to try a Sunday dinner!

Heard good things about the carvery so thought we would give it a go disappointed about how little meat was left at 1.30 majority of party enjoyed it my turkey was lovely the other options were well done beef or venison very little left and maybe 2 portions of pork nice vegetable selection so we filled up on veggys but 2 of party not keen on veg so they were disapointed

I arranged our annual dinner for Garden Society, 32 diners. Service was great from the beginning, nothing was too much for the two ladies who looked after us. The food was served on time and was delicious, ranging from Turkey Christmas dinner to Vegetable Parcel, which was my choice. The staff had decorated the tables beautifully and a very friendly atmosphere developed quickly. Everyone enjoyed the event and have had some positive feedback from members. We'll probably go there again next January and other occasions in between now and then!

Took Mum for Sunday lunch at one of my favourite eateries in Dorset which serves smashing food all of the time, I would say for us, it is better in the week for eating only because we prefer the menu. We thought we would try the Sunday roast which consists of a choice in 4 meats, Lamb, turkey, Pork and beef. I had beef and Mum had lamb, both were tasty and were cooked and sliced lovely. Plenty of veg available and a good selection to choose from. Not much waiting time for patrons, it's in and you can go up to carvery within 10 mins. Very well organised and always busy, the staff are great and very hard working. Puddings are not to be missed and if you like custard on your sponge pudding, you won't be disappointed and a very good filler and very tasty. We'll definitely be back in the week, I need to have the turkey, ham and leek pie, mmmm Regards, Chris and Mum

Good selection of meats and vegetables. Everything was cooked to our liking. Good value Sunday carvery. Reason for 4 stars was that the area we were sat in felt a bit like the village hall and we had a pop up table with ink over it. I guess there aren’t enough tables for the popularity of the carvery.

Visiting the village we wanted a light bite for lunch and this was Hobson's choice. We ordered the small scampi chips and peas with side salad and the small ham egg and chips. With drinks this was a reasonable £23. Food arrived promptly well presented and a long way off small. Everything was properly cooked, very impressed with the eggs served with a proper runny yolk, the side salad was also excellent with various leaves, celery, onion, peppers and tomatoes, even some apple and a couple of grapes. We certainly felt well fed when we'd finished. Friendly service too.

We walked into this establishment for a meal as we were holidaying in a local cottage, and promptly walked out again five minutes later. The atmosphere as we walked in felt distinctly hostile, and we must have stood for at least four minutes being totally ignored. There was a girl serving and clearing tables and after the four minutes had elapsed my fiancée asked her if we could get a table for five. She was advised in a very abrupt manner that we would need to speak to the lady behind the bar. The lady behind the bar seemed to be in a foul mood and was arguing with other customers who clearly were of higher importance than us. We waited for another minute before giving up and leaving as we felt no one cared. Obviously a local pub for local people - give it a miss!

We visited on a weekday lunchtime, the pub was very quiet and obviously being refurbed, 4 of the meals on the lunch menu were unavailable but only pointed out after we ordered. Disappointed with the fish and chips, I don't really want Bird's Eye type fish and dull chips with no crunch, the side salad was inventive and fresh, the highlight of the meal. Rather a lot of spiders/webs and the toilets were not particularly clean, this could be a very nice place and hopefully it will be when the renovations are finished.

The "welcome" here was really rather cold, not a proper welcome at all, unlike most other pubs we have visited in Dorset. The food came quickly: the faggots were average, but the ham, egg and chips were quite good. The barman was poorly turned out in a very stained sweater. Some of the language we could hear very clearly from a group of young men also dining was wholly inappropriate for a public place. All in all not a great experience, and we shall not be returning.

Sunday roast was good ie.good selection of vegetables (blue cabbage and cauliflower were tasty, vegetables were not overcooked), generous portions of meat (I had beef which was a bit overcooked for me but it’s just me being a bit picky about beef. It was seasoned very well).Really enjoyed sticky toffee pudding. Good value for money - there was 2for1 deal for Sunday roast. Friendly and helpful service. Nice atmosphere and decor. Will definitely come back to check out the rest of the menu.

On our journey home from an overnight-stay in Bournemouth we decided to take a minor roads route back home rather than the direct main road route. This took us through quite a few small towns and villages. Our plan was to find a Farm Shop Café or a village / small town-centre café where we could get lunch: ideally a snack and a hot drink. We were over an hour into our journey when we saw the signs for Marcia’s Farm Shop and turned into what was a heavily pot-holed carpark. We then walked into the signposted barn noting that there was plenty of tables and chairs arranged in neat rows but no-one was sat there. There was another door into ‘The Shack’; inside was actually a full bar; like you would find in a pub. There were a few locals propping-up the bar, chatting and drinking draught beer. This is not what we had expected and we assumed that the ‘Marcia’s Farm Shop’ and ‘The Shack’ were one in the same business. There didn’t appear to be any farm produce on sale: other than, we assumed, the food offered in the menu. It was almost exactly 1pm when we were approached and welcomed by a pleasant lady. We asked about food, and she advised us to select a table and choose from the menu of snacks that were available, and that she would return to take our order. We studied the menu having ordered some tea and my Partner chose a fishfinger baguette, whereas I chose a toasted ham and cheese sourdough sandwich. The plates took a good 20-25 minutes to arrive from ordering, but freshly prepared food does take time. So, we sipped tea and amused ourselves with the help of a large (probably over-fed and under-exercised) old Labrador who constantly wandered and sniffed around the bar and seated areas. The dog then settled at our table once our food order arrived. This was not a serious issue for us (others however may dislike being ‘hounded’ by slobbering dogs while they eat their food). Both plates featured a colourful and tasty fresh dressed salad which was really good. My sandwich was really firm and crunchy with a generous helping of thick-cut ham and plenty of well-melted cheese, and a small portion of red cabbage coleslaw to go with the salad. It was really good and enjoyed. My Partner’s baguette featured homemade cod loin fishfingers and tartare sauce (both inside the baguette). The fish was a bit moist and insubstantial; despite being made from the loin. Cod can be like this and it is why we prefer the meatier haddock. The baguette also accompanied by a few crisps, but they were a really strange flavour for accompanying fish (reminded us of Oxo beef - but very artificial). Our food was on the whole good, generously portioned and very much welcomed, and it was good value.
