Great pub will off the beaten Dorset tourist track. Well worth a visit! Good food and drink selection with a sun trap of a pub garden. The “Basket” and “Burger” deals are very good and great portions. From the boards around the pub it looks like there are some good events on most weekends. Locals are good fun as well, met a few, they weren’t too scary.

Great pub, open only in the evening: they have a skittles alley.

Lovely traditional pub with friendly staff serving great food. The only drawback, no local draught beers. ☹️

I've just come home after a "party" to celebrate the life of a dear friends son ,the staff were so friendly caring and courteous ,the food was absolutely delicious and plenty of it , everyone enjoyed it, It was under the circumstances a delightful afternoon

The type of traditional pub that is sadly disappearing in the UK Have yet to try the food, but that’s on the todo list. Hopefully this pub will become my local as soon just need the solicitors to pull their fingers out. I will then be back with an update.

This review refers to the Okeford Fitzpaine Pub - which may not now be operating! Unpretentious, excellent value, great service. Two meals and two pints of cider for £21, as at 16 April 2023. Unbeatable value. In response to my question on opening hours... "Food is served 6 to 8pm Wednesday through Saturday and 12pm to 3pm Sunday".

Very quiet when we came, lovely old fashioned pub great service and the meal was nice and a reasonable price. Would recommend

Great village pub, brilliant live music and quiz nights. I could only give 3 stars for food as I hadn't pre ordered on the quiz night, so I couldn't even get a bowl of chips as they had ran out, so I'm guessing it deserves a higher rating than I have given it.

Attended the beer festival here. Wow what a night. It was fabulous, staff all cheerful although run off their feet. Lovely atmosphere.

Went to the pub yesterday for Sunday lunch a group of four of us the dinner was excellent and staff polite and chearful. Would definitely recommend

Staying in local cottage as a group for weekend and Turned up as group of 8 friends and booked sat pm for sun lunch Staff are friendly and brilliant . 6x sunday roasts and 2 off menu . Nothing was a bother and food was spot on .. stayed on for several extras after as atmosphere great too. thank you

Real old traditional English village pub. Friendly staff.

We popped in to see if there was anything for us on the menu as vegans/vegetarians. The chef came out and couldn’t have been more accommodating. We planned to come in a couple of nights later and were really pleased with what she made for us. Very well cooked crispy veg, well dressed salad and vegan sausages. The fat chips also were excellent! Toddy (the chef) was so welcoming and excited to cook for us and it did not disappoint. Highly recommended!

Good for meals. Staff friendly prices reasonable. Recommend the steal or the ribs. Healthy portions. Really nice. OK to drop in but appears to get busy later in the evening suggest booking. Free parking.

Great little place. Lots of history and well situated for ramblers and cyclists within gorgeous countryside with gardens and parking. Good food and ale along with friendly service and locals. What more could you ask from a country pub.

The only village pub in Okeford Fitzpayne. Great ales in a comfortable traditional pub setting. The food is great and the staff are wonderful.

From start to finish everything exceeded expectations and we couldn't fault anything. We were greeted at the bar and they knew our air bnb host. So closing time became - whenever we were finished. We sat outside facing the car park, which may sound like a rubbish view but let me tell you, I have never laughed so hard people watching in my life. The pub attracts locals, families of locals and a lot of people passing by for work or vacation (due to it's location on a through road). The interesting people, conversations and driving mishaps had us in stitches ! The giggles were further fuelled by 🍸drinks, which again qere faultless and served very quickly. We both ordered a fillet steak , they were both cooked to our order perfectly and tasted amazing. The chef even whipped up some garlic butter for us as it wasn't on the menu. Having spoken to our server and bar staff they were all still enthusiastic to be at work post lockdown and the pub has bounced back really well. The cohesive teamwork and local family feeling the establishment has is second to none If we are ever in the area again we would definitely visit again.

Great effort by Micky the landlady to try to keep the place going under very difficult circumstances before being hit with another lockdown. Food was good, beer was in excellent condition. Please everyone support this lovely pub once this Covid thing is over.

My partner and I visited this pub a few times last year and early this and thought the food was really nice but the service left a bit to be desired however the ambience was good. Since pubs reopened this year we have attempted to visit but it's very very restricted hours so always closed when we look. Today is the last time we will attempt....went there for one after work pint - gates to car park fully open, no sign to say otherwise so pulled in to then be shouted at by the landlady that the car park was closed and that the pub wasnt open for another 2 minutes! Maybe some indication that the car park was closed would be helpful rather than an aggressive landlady. I will not visit here again.

Price is competitive, portion size is good, food was prepared quickly and well cooked, generally very nice. Staff were polite.

We took out horses here for a pint after our ride, we were very welcomed and even offered water for our horses! Quick service and nice atmosphere

We had a lovely Roast Beef and Yorkshire Pudding meal with extra gravy, Pleasant pub with comfortable seating and a warm stove. Just what one wants on a wet and windy Sunday for a cosy lunch. We'll go again. There is plenty to choose from on the Menu and some interesting specials. The beer was excellent.

The leek potato soup had grit from the leeks in it and we found out the fries and other ingredients are frozen, which was very obvious in the low quality taste too. Very unfortunate, considering the interior is very cozy and cute.

We had a lovely meal at The Royal Oak tonight. All fresh, home cooked food, thoroughly enjoyed by my husband and I and our 2 children aged 5 and 8. The pub was really warm (log burner) and the staff were friendly. Highly recommend.

The staff were friendly, drinks and food inexpensive and lovely building and garden. But my hunter's chicken was rubbery, so I assume it had been microwaved from frozen and my friends well done steak looked like charcoal and was very dry. So have a drink there and maybe choose food like lasagne.

Sat outside in the garden and had a lovely lunch. The lady serving was so friendly and helpful and brought our drinks really quickly, told us when our food was coming and checked we were ok. Good menu, not too expensive. I had a fish finger baguette which was fantastic and everyone else enjoyed theirs.

Staff were friendly for sure. It was a nice old style place with beams running through the low ceilings and various places to sit. The food was ok but nothing signature.

Stopped by for a light lunch. 25 minute waiting and they missed the cheese on my daughter's burger.... Ordered the vegetarian option.. and the mushroom soup.. stay away from it, it was mushrooms blended in water ... Atmosphere ok and friendly staff, just need to stick to the roast dinner ...

We arrived at The Royal Oak situated in the heart of the attractive village of Okeford Fitzpaine hoping to have lunch, It is a quaint country pub with an enormous fireplace and flagstone flooring and welcoming, chatty staff. Unfortunately we picked a day when they were not serving food due to a party that evening. Rather wish we got an invite as they were all so friendly!

We ate at the Royal Oak one Friday evening, very welcoming landlord and a very busy pub. The food was very nice and of good quality, what I would expect from a village local pub.

Friends and I have stopped here a few times after shoots looking for a bite to eat and a pint. It’s never been open.

My daughter-in-law, grandson and I popped in here for lunch whilst on holiday nearby at Hedge End Farm In Winterborne Stickland. A very friendly welcome, fast service and an amazing meal. Presented in an attractive manner, hot, really good portions and very reasonable. The homemade coleslaw was exceptional. I wish we lived locally. Definitely a place to re-visit.

Friendly punters, good ale and good pub food. Owners make you feel at home. We ate there twice out of our 3 visits.

The pub was busy so must be appealing to the locals. It was the only pub we went to in the area that did basic pub grub rather than pretending to be a restaurant. Food OK but not a great choice of beer.

La visita de un sábado por la noche para un regalo con mi esposa. nos tenían filetes de solomillo, que estaban muy bien, pero ¿por qué o por qué estropear con la basura, la sirven con patatas fritas congeladas más desagradable que he tenido en cualquier lugar y guisantes incomible congelado. Realmente! Para los precios pagados tienes que estar bromeando. Las bebidas estaban igual de mal, con sólo un par de cervezas de barril para elegir y plana como una mezcladora de coca cola una botella de plástico. Una pena, ya que solía ser muy bueno.

The Royal Oak at Okeford Fitzpaine doesn't look much from the outside but the food here is awesome. We both had the ribs and were blown away with both the quantity and quality of the meal. Can't wait to go back.

Visitamos nuestro local esta tarde, tiene que ser el peor servicio que he experimentado en cualquier pub. No merece calificación en una estrella. Pedir comida y pagamos en 7.40:00, todavía no había señales de nuestras comidas por 8.20 pm (aunque no estaba lleno) Pub, bar personal preguntó cuál era la situación, dijo que se estaban preparando, 10 minutos más tarde aún no había señal de la comida había pedido un reembolso, lo que nos dieron. Desafortunadamente ella no siente la necesidad de disculparse por hacernos esperar 50 minutos. Servicio pésimo, personal muy pobre, no vamos a volver, aunque está a sólo cinco minutos a pie!

Visited on Sunday and enjoyed a superb lunch. Everything was absolutely perfect and the staff were really friendly. Nice touch from the staff to give the kids an Easter egg too. Will definitely be coming back soon.

this is a fantastic village pub, we have been here several times to eat, the food is good quality and very reasonably priced, the staff are all very friendly in fact I am just about to ring up to book a table for Saturday night, hope they can fit us in!!

When deciding to move to Dorset and to Okeford village, the Royal Oak was one of the attractions. We are pleased to find we have a real village pub where locals and visitors alike are well-comed, well-fed and well-watered. Its on a popular national cycle route NCN253 and a stop there will ensure you can climb Okeford Hill to the Ridgeway!

Nos habían aconsejado para reservar una mesa para nosotros tres y gracias a Dios que lo hicimos! El pub estaba muy lleno (una buena señal) y nos dieron una cálida bienvenida. El menú es comida tradicional de pub, no es demasiado complicado, pero algo para todo el mundo. Las bebidas se sirven en la mesa. La comida fue fantástica, y servido con una sonrisa. comer y beber una gran experiencia.

Pequeño pero encantador pub del pueblo pero no abre como lo anuncian. Tuvimos cena allí el primer día que llegamos y de nuevo para el almuerzo del domingo, que fue un poco decepcionante - la carne era tan duro que no podía comer. Fuimos allí por otra comida el martes y me dijeron que no estaban sirviendo comida ya que nos obsequiaron con un festival de cerveza el próximo fin de semana. Hubiera sido agradable haber sabido previamente por ejemplo un anuncio fuera o dentro del pub? Así que tuvimos que ir en coche hasta el próximo pub a unos 3 km de distancia. Es estas pequeñas cosas que recorrer un largo camino - si hubiéramos sabido que podríamos haber comido en otro lugar en nuestro camino de regreso a Monkey World! Pero aún así es un pequeño pub pintoresco con un personal encantador.

A very friendly welcome and reasonable food. Sadly the evening we were there, they seemed to be understaffed so the food took ages to arrive. The soup was excellent and the mains were average although the portions were generous.

We have just moved to the area and have visited the Royal Oak a few times for Sunday Lunch. It is delicious with good size portions and a great service. The desserts are yummy especially the Malteser Sundae and Eton Mess!!!! We have taken a few friends there since who have also really enjoyed their lunch. The atmosphere is cosy and welcoming. We will definitely be visiting regularly and would recommend this lovely village pub.

We spent the Easter weekend in Okeford Fitzpaine and found the pub to be very friendly, food was excellent and plenty of it and the wine/beer was good too. PS: the glass in the front door is upside down....looks like elephant's bum but should actually be a tulip Paul and Jane

A group of us planned to visit the pub on a Monday when normally it does not serve food. The Landlord was keen to accommodate us as we pre ordered our meals. The whole experience was first class with a good variety of well kept beer and reasonably priced excellent food.The locals speak highly of the pub and we will certainly visit again.

This pub has been taken over by new management in the last year and we had Sunday lunch here in October. The people who run the pub are very helpful and friendly and the food was good and reasonably priced. They also had a good choice of ales. Much much better than it used to be. We are looking forward to visiting again at Christmas.

it's lovely if your just passing and need a break or even better if you want to stay. All needs met and live music available. Ample venue space.

Wanted to treat my family to a homely roast lunch on Sunday and discovered the Royal Oak! The staff were welcoming and they had a fire setting a great atmosphere! We had the roast pork with crunchy crackling! They were happy to supply raw carrots for a fussy eater and my 4 children all cleared their plates!

Wine and spirits are over priced at this pub. Very little atmospheres the day we came in (Saturday). There are other more welcoming pubs nearby such as Fuddlefird and Bakers.

Been there a few times and always found it to be welcoming and a relaxing place to eat and drink. The open fire in the main bar is great on a cold evening.

Arrived at 8 on a Friday evening. They were welcoming. The menu was quite brief. We both had steak. It was quite good, a generous portion. It was overcooked compared to the order. The price, including a decent bottle of red, was very reasonable. Would go back but order the steak rare instead of medium rare!Its 6 miles from Blandford, in the village of Okeford Fitzpaine. The designation is thus a bit misleading.

Lovely fresh baguettes and a half of local beer for lunch, chunky ham cooked on the premises and soft fresh bread. Good glass on Pinot Grigio with my dinner of best burger ever and homemade chocolate fudge cake - great quality pub food.Try anything and then everything on the menu, you won't be disappointed.
