In the interest of honesty I will say that I have previously left a negative review for The Halfway after a bad meal and bad experience. After several correspondence emails between myself and the manager I was invited back to give the food and experience another chance. And it was definitely worth going back! The staff were brilliant and the food was awesome. We had the lamb shank roast, beef roast and gammon and all meals were perfect. The deserts were to die for, absolutely lovely and they serve a great pint of Guinness 😀. Dogs being welcome make this the perfect pub for my family so we will definitely be going back and would highly recommend to anyone looking for a good pub with great food.

Delicious homemade Sunday dinner, served hot. Always a great pint to have here. Nice friendly staff, always with a smile on their faces. Great atmosphere here for the rugby on Saturday as well. 10/10 would recommend. It's a nice treditional locals pub.

Great local pub. Unpretentious food, great service good beer selection. Looking forward to the next trip.

Stupid...I mean stupid expensive. Food OK at best, but, did I say expensive? Ale OK...but did I say expensive? So conclusion...stupid expensive in case you didn't get it first time. Spend similar money elsewhere, but at least you won't feel stupid.

Really nice pub. The staff are all fantastic. The chefs do a great job, and if you like reading menus, there's loads of them to choose from. The food is all very high quality.

Great team in The Halfway. Open to the public on Christmas day, for longer than 2 hours! Staff work very hard there & the pre-ordered Christmas dinners looked & smelled unbelievable, was a jealous man of the people eating.

I popped in for a spot of lunch, i decided to opt for the lamb rogan josh, absolutely delicious, full of flavor and piping hot, washed down with one of the best pints of Brains bitter i've had in a long while! Jade and the team were so welcoming and bring a nice relaxing atmosphere to a cracking Cardiff pub. I'll definitely pop in when in Pontcanna and plan on visiting on a Sunday as I've heard the Sunday lunch is fantastic!

Had delicious roast pork lunch with all the trimmings at The Halfway today.. friendly and helpful staff made it really enjoyable. Looking forward to my next visit.

Visited The Halfway on Sunday 12th November for a roast dinner. Arrived at 2.30 and was told the lamb and beef was off the menu . So there was a choice of pork chicken or nut roast. Decided.on the pork. What a disappointment. Very greasy plate of food. Pork bits was full of fat and the sage and onion ball needed hammer and chisel to get into it. The 'veg' was dire. Parsnip burnt, the one small piece of carrot overcooked the tiniest piece of broccoli seen better days. Unedible. Sent it back and had a refund. Waitress/manager was apologetic, I think.

Have visited a few times in recent months. Always a great atmosphere and good food. Dyfed and Jade are very welcoming and have excellent knowledge of the local beers and spirits. Always on my list whenever I visit Cardiff. Diolch!

All of the food here is great. The landlady has a bit of a hobby for writing a new menu every few days so there's always something new to try. The Sunday roasts, and their sandwich menus are both worth a look, but if you're not that hungry, they have a really good line up of soups as well. They play the footie and rugby games, the staff are always friendly, and there's a really nice atmosphere.

Had the pleasure of meeting The Halfway at a charity do once. He was surprisingly down to earth, and VERY funny.

Delicious pints, great food (try the sausages) and one of the finest skittle alleys I’ve ever seen in the flesh!

If you’re somebody that loves a real and authentic pub this is exactly the place to visit. The Halfway has such a strong community feeling in Pontcanna and you really get the sense of everybody knows everybody but that everyone feels welcome. It’s definitely one of the most well priced pubs in the Pontcanna/Canton area and their Sunday roasts are second to none and it’s not often you get a homemade yorkie so that’s a really special touch! It’s food is all homemade and that makes such a difference! I have so many happy memories in this pub and it really is such a hidden gem in Cardiff.

If you don't want a big lunch, they've got a excellent lunch menu/light bites. With sandwitches & jackets potatoes, ploughmans lunch specials. Lovely service from the landlord herself, will be coming back.

I had an amazing time at this pub! The warm ambiance, friendly staff and wide selection of drinks made it a fantastic evening. The food was delicious and the live music added the extra layer of fun. It was a great night. Thank you, can’t wait to visit again.

This was a nice bar to call into for a pitstop while we were out site seeing on our visit to Cardiff.

Popped in for a late lunch / early dinner & a glass of wine before a gig. It wasn't busy (it was a week day afternoon) & we spent a very pleasant couple of hours relaxing & people watching. There's a choice of vegan food alongisde the regualr pub stuff (which is why we choose to come here over other places - when one of you is vegan & the other isn't, you need a place that caters to both of you.) Would vist again if in the area.

Great, friendly, service and plenty of great beers on tap. Lots of homemade dishes on the menu - can definitely recommend the cottage pie - and food was delivered quickly and was hot and delicious.

Just had the best Christmas dinner ever at Halfway inn and we are going to book again for next year. We had the best service from all the staff - service with a smile! And we took the dogs!

Hadn't been here for years but popped in for a pub lunch before an interview and was glad I did. Great value for money and I am happy to return here in the future.

Three vegetarians went for Sunday lunch here today and we were very impressed. Gorgeous nut roast, great selection of vegetables, vegan gravy for just £10 per head. What impressed us more was the friendliness and warmness of the staff. Nothing was too much trouble, they were all smiling, calm , welcoming and lovely despite the pub being very busy. Highly recommend and will be back. Thank you

We were a party of 8 which included, 2 small children a baby and a dog. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Service was excellent. Food was tasty and very reasonably priced.

Dropped in today with the Wife, son and dog, and was once again immediately made to feel welcome. Unfortunately they had tun out of roast dinners, much to the wifes dismay, however the landlady has said that she will be producing twice as many from next Sunday. In any case both myself and the wife had a curry, and my son had Ham Egg and Chips, all were tasty, and really reasonably priced, I highly recommend this place if you fancy some excellent pub food.

Nice beer, staff and pub but let down by the food. Burger and steak had grit or sand in them and the chips were bit greasy. Being so close to the park across the way from here they’d do well to sell some good coffee

Love this pub. Good range of beers, always a good atmosphere. Food is always good with decent portion sizes. Outdoor area OK but could maybe do with a refurb. Staff friendly. Highly recommended.

Disappointed with our visit. Have enjoyed several good Sunday lunches here but the food last night was not good. We were there early and there was a wait for the food to come out and I suspect the kitchen wasn’t really ready for service. It was also their “grill night” and perhaps it was a mistake ordering from the regular menu instead. When it came, the chips were clearly precooked and “refreshed” and chicken breasts in a burger and hunters chicken were dry and overcooked. Very little sauce on the hunters chicken. Overall a bit dispiriting and not up to the standard of their Sunday lunches.

No air con or fans, £2.90 for carling was a good but £5.40 for a single vodka and pump Pepsi is a rip off
