The Halfway House in Liverpool

Visited on 11th Feb 2025 for a teatime meal and a few drinks. Sat in the eating area towards the back. Service from Cathy our server was excellent and the food was tasty, hot and good value for money. This is not fine dining but what they do , they do well with friendly and prompt service. Bar area pleasant too.

Visited the Halfway House Tuesday 1/9/20 with family and enjoyed a really good meal,our waitress Catherine was very helpful and it was definitely service with a smile, will definitely visit again.😊

Went with my parents for dinner as we had a discount. Cathy was so lovely (gorgeous scouse gal), super fast service, food was cooked amazing, drinks were cold and fresh, restaurant was clean. Would come again in a heartbeat. We dont get a chance to go out as a family much due to work so it was a lovely night. Thanks Cathy queen we love ya x

Had a lovely meal here with family. Easy to park which was a bonus for us. Cathy our waitress was wonderful, she sorted a table out for us and was fully attentive and helpful. Bar staff are friendly, Katy sorted our drinks out for us and was happily chatting away to us. Good was delicious and plentiful. The atmosphere in the dining area is cosy and you can see the food being prepared in the kitchen. Look forward to returning soon.

Everytime we come to this pub Cathy goes above and beyond for us. She never stops and always with a smile on her face. Definitely the queen of the halfway house.

I try to go to the Half Way House once a month. I go and meet my friends for a catch up . I have been going there for many a years and alway have a lovely time. Over the years I am always served by Cath . Cath is such a lovely polite lady who makes sure you have a lovely evening . Went for a few drinks and food after work on Friday and had exceptional service. Jackie in particular was fantastic, and could not have done more for us. She was so attentive and not just with us but with everyone. The food was amazing, we had the gyros, boneless chicken, garlic mushrooms, prawns, fries and nachos for around £30 for 3 people. It was all cooked beautifully, big portions and was piping hot. The drinks were insanely good, considering it was 2 for £9 for cocktails they did not skimp on the ingredients, I think they are the best drinks I've had in a long time! The service was fab and the atmosphere was great. The best part is there is music on but it isn't causing you to shout at eachother! I really appreciated that after a long week! I've been a few times and it's always the same (although Jackie really made this visit fantastic)! I appreciate all of the staff and will definitely be back! Highly recommended!

I called ahead as I wanted to make sure they were dog friendly. The lady was so lovely and helpful we decided to call in. Great service. They had a couple of real ales, and the food was excellent. For doggie people, this place is really dog friendly, not tolerant!! When we ordered sausages for the dogs, they advised they contained onion...so they had to make do with chicken breast..cut up and served before us!!!! Will be coming back

Went in to watch the match and get some grub. Was amazed by the brilliant customer service from Katy and Joe , felt so well looked after. Shame it was only a draw but still left with a smile on my face :) will definitely be coming back for the next fixture #COYR #YNWA

The atmosphere here is lovely, I had fish and chips then a few beers. Katy on the bar was super friendly and provided a quick service. All in all would return for the food and the customer service.

Brilliant little boozer, cheap beer, great food and Katy on the bar was an absolute star! 10/10 would recommend.

Place has gone so downhill and someone on the staff stinks behind the bar, every time I come in here now it smells of BO it’s so bad… Please sort it out.

Lovely atmosphere with really tasty food! The garlic bread was especially nice with the lasagna I had, I would love to come again just to have the same!

Didn't know it was no longer a carvery. I had a haloumi wrap it was a little under cooked and to be honest I've had better. My daughter had gammon she loved it. Mum had scampi I'm afraid she didn't think it was that special. My son had a chicken mix basket but didn't enjoy it and some of the chicken was cremated I'm afraid. Daughter had fudge cake she enjoyed it. Mum had pie and custard which she enjoyed.

Cathy makes your visit. She is professional, friendly and goes out of her way to ensure that you enjoy your visit. Meals are delicious, great prices and all Covid precautions are in place and adhered to.

I went into the halfway house yesterday at lunch time with 2 friends one of my friends has celiac she asked for the celiac menu and was presented with a tablet there was no menu on the tablet just circles which she had to tick off she then decided she could have gammon and egg with some salad but the waitress said they couldn't do an egg as they had no oil and her food has to be cooked separately but the waitress said the manager had gone out for some olive oil then we were told they had no eggs so the manager would have to go out and get some eggs after drinking our cup of tea we left not before having to pay for the tea I find in this day and age with so many complex dietary requirements this restaurant couldn't even supply the basics definitely would not visit again

We are visiting Liverpool from America & love the service & food here. All our meals have been excellent. The Caesar salad tastes like back home! Our server Cathy was wonderful. She took excellent care of us!!

Haven't been here for many years. Just turned up on a Saturday about 4pm. Plenty of free tables and the outside area is lovely. Meals were great - recommend fish and chips - 2 for the price of onr and beautifully cooked. Service great. Atmisphere - good but very noisy can hardly hear yourself speak. It's well worth a visit.

Called in for lunch as we were passing. Had a lovely chicken curry. Great staff and food.

Not been in a while, was the best carvery by far however it's a lovely pub with friendly staff. Love the colour scheme and the function room is a nice size. However nothing beats an ice cold Coors in the beer garden

Lovely meal here last night and staff were great, getting our drinks to getting our food, don’t know the guys name, but he was great with us, we’ve never been before!

My experience was very awkward, sat eating meal with my other half and the staff member who was serving food to tables, dropped an item of food off a diners plate on to the floor, looked around and proceeded to put item back on to the plate. She then realised I had seen this and then came over asking the food was. Once we had finished our meals she then took plates away and remarked that I hadn't eaten all of my meal was there anything wrong. I answered no to this.

A busy but welcoming pub. Staff are pleasant and welcoming. Food was delicious. Definitely one of the best sizzling pubs we’ve visited.

Had dinner. Food was hot and fresh. The service from Cathy in the restaurant, as always was excellent.

We called In for a quick drink and I ended up with a parking ticket . I email the pub and said I hadnt noticed the restrictions . I sent them a copy of the ticket and they have cancelled it for me .which I was very happy with . Thank you

Absolutely lovely place, we had food here and it was a bit cool so we mentioned it to Annie our server and she went above and beyond to make sure all our food was replaced and got us a drink while we waited, she has beautiful customer service skills and is a brilliant asset to the company. Visited Saturday, really friendly welcome from every staff member we came across, Quick service at the bar and really tasty food. The new cocktails are really good too. We will definitely be back soon!

Have to give this poor review having being disappointed by our recent visit. Tried the Halfway House on the basis of Tripadvisor best nearby suggestions. It’s definitely not our best nearby though. Menu is fairly cheap but food poor, so overall it isn’t a bargain. Just generally not very tasty. Poor quality ingredients and lacking finishing touches like enough dressing on salad. Everything we were served certainly looked nothing like the menu pictures. It could just be this restaurant/chef, but if not then other national pub chains around this price point are miles better.

Kathy our server was pleasant efficient and helpful. She was lovely.

This pub needs to decide what it is. It seems a crude combination of pub, creche and dogs kennels. I fully appreciate the need to open to a wide local demographic but the constant running about of toddlers and young children is dangerous as well as annoying. Last weekend there was a mother playing with her baby on the floor of the pub. Dog leads also cause tripping hazards , which could result in a nasty accident. Please,Halfway, can you cater for pub customers who want to come into relax, rather than allowing excitable dogs and hyper youngsters to ruin what is otherwise an excellent pub.

Thought we'd call in for a couple of drinks on a sunny eve, not been for a while. Wish we hadn't. Was spoke to like absolute rubbish by one barman/manager (?) who was rude, abrupt and snappish. Completely uncalled for. Will stick to the Abbey/Fiveways!

Second time we have been here and again there were problems with food, had to send the chicken burger back because it was missing onion rings, cheese and sauces. The beef burger came and patty was like rubber, wouldn’t recommend getting a double. Fries were few and either bad quality or undercooked but got left, won’t be returning for food, should have learnt the first time

Waitress Kathy was very welcoming and had our reserved table ready. She is very hard working, she never stopped. She took our order and explained the kitchen was busy and there may be a wait. When the food came, it was beautifully cooked and presented.

Great deal well worth a visit. Service was very good. Price of food very reasonably priced. Clean and tidy. You won't be disappointed if you give it a try

Went here with my boyfriend for a weekday tea (table 10). We were really pleasantly surprised. Lovely beer garden, interior was nicely decorated, nice atmosphere, nice food, and good offers on the app. But what really set it apart was the service, the staff were fantastic. Cathy was lovely, really attentive and brilliant at her job, but more than that, she was down to earth, polite and chatty. I used to be a food and beverage manager in a hotel and I would have been proud to have Cathy on my team. Halfway house - look after her she’s a good one!

Went last night the kitchen was closed but because there was two of us having food they agreed to serve us. The starter was burnt , there was no filling in the mozzarella sticks they had been over cooked, I ordered fish which the batter was chewy the fish was slimy with a jelly texture and tasted very strong, my partners chicken wasn’t even chicken it was rubber which was a shame as it was his birthday we came away unhappy and ordered a takeaway instead we don’t normally leave bad reviews but felt like we have to

Such an amazing place. Incredible atmosphere, staff are friendly and attentive. Always up for a laugh. Had some food and with the new menu there’s endless choices. Pub is incredibly managed and smiles all around. Well done team Halfway

Lovely lunch today, great food cooked to perfection. And as always, a warm welcome from the lovely Cathy, nothing is ever too much trouble for her. Would highly recommend.

The menu has changed but there still offer a selection of meals for a lower combined price good website to look on before visiting we opted for the lasagne ,fish and chips and a chicken gyros all the meals are nicely presented nice tasting and great value
