Myself and 3 Biker mates visited yesterday and were impressed by the changes made to the place. Full of interesting Motoring memorabilia for all Petrolheads everywhere! The young staff were friendly and attentive as well as being highly efficient in their jobs. The breakfast is at the top of the price range at £11.95, but it was cooked beautifully and the ingredients top notch. Great Coffee too! We had a great time and will certainly return. An excellent Bikers retreat!

This place was taken over & is now called The Stag & is the home of a car club so we decided to visit as 1 of our party is very interested in all sorts of cars & although not a special event there were a few cars & lots of memorabilia decorating the inside.we decided to have lunch the menu was only burgers some very fussy offerings with only 1 (cheeseburger) that was suitable for us when it arrived it was a very small dried up (I suspect packet frozen) lukewarm burger with supposedly triple cooked chips( again prepacked frozen?) that were dry the kids burger came with homemade beans that were spicy as 1 of the owners is a professional chef according to the blurb but I'm not sure we're he trained as what we were served would not have even have got him a job at McDonalds!!!its just as well it's a car club as a pint at £6.03 they certainly can't rely on the the food & drink to make any money unfortunately we won't be reccomending or returning unless there's a car meeting then only for a drink DEFINITELY NOT FOR FOOD!!!!!

Having had a poor experience on a couple of previous occasions, I was so hoping it would be better this time.....with a new bar manager in situ and what was seemingly better informed social media than before. 7pm on a Friday night and barely a scattering of people. Open mic night.....and a weed induced hippy-esque figure setting up in the corner. I asked if they had Aperol and the answer was no then yes....so I ordered an Aperol Spritz......which turned out to be, very disappointingly, just Aperol and Soda water.....oh dear. Oh and someone started vaping at the bar. Even the usually chipper bar staff was a less than enthusiastic. I so want this pub to succeed, but it's hours are very hit and miss....rumour has it it's up for sale so O wish all the luck in the world to the new owners and will probably return then.....probably not before.

Went to see the band which said 8.00pm but when they didn't come saw it said on their Facebook 9.00pm. Had cheese ploughman's which wasn't nice. No cucumber, apple or grapes. Some weird bread things that tasted awful. The place needs a good clean and redecorating. Also dog running around while your eating. Picture is food I left. We asked if there was peppers in it to be told no but when served there was.

We are surprised by unfavourable reports as we found the staff welcoming and the food quite good. You order and obtain cutlery from the bar, which is fair enough and the menu is on the blackboards. We were a group of 5 celebrating a 97 year olds birthday and the staff were very helpful. the menu included a range of 'roasts' and and an ala carte selection. - not many pubs offer that on a Sunday! We brought our own cake to which the staff added candles and presented it well. They may be new to the pub and were a bit short of staff but it was an enjoyable meal and we were well looked after - Give them a chance!

Shocking went here for mothersday. Booked a table when arrived table wasn't even sorted no cutlery or napkins on table. Ordered the roast beef came out luke warm. Was giving a dirty high chair to use for baby !! No proper menus. Son wanted dessert asked 4 times for the dessert to be told someone else is using it so clearly only have one dessert menu! Food was served very quickly had to ask for cutlery and condiments ! Didn't see anyone after our food was given to us . Plates still on the table when we left . Wish I had read the reviews . It's a shame as this place has always been busy and had lovely food and great service

Nice clean pub and environment but food was absolutely awful. Dried up beef burger and chicken burger, bacon in burger was like cardboard, Bean & cheese jacket potato was a kids portion with a tablespoon of baked beans and sprinkle of cheese. Food was luke warm. Service not good considering the pub was empty, should have guessed something was not quite right as we were the only customers eating on a Friday lunchtime!!! This is such a shame as the pub use to have great food and a great reputation. Advise, don't go there to eat!!!

We pulled into the car park which had 1/2 dozen cars, arriving at 3pm the alarm bells weren’t ringing. Reassuring they were still serving & we made aware roast beef had sold out. No problem, we thought being late afternoon and walk-in customers we’ll have the roast chicken. JUST AWFUL IT WAS DIA!!! Calamari starter was an odd texture & tasteless. The chicken was unseasoned & very bland, NO roast potatoes, two 1/2 new potatoes, bland unseasoned boiled, watery frozen vegetables. Soggy (possibly boiled) parsnip batons. Had to wait for gravy & ask for more. There were two other couples eating at the same time as us & both had issues with their meals also. Condiments pots were empty & incorrect desserts served. How can you confuse sticky toffee pudding and treacle tart? The lady who served us was very pleasant, however lack of organisation let her down. Having to run back and forth, fetching and carrying & unaware they’d run out of roast potatoes!! AVOID!!

This used to be a really good place to eat with difficulty getting in. We should have guessed an empty car park on a Saturday was a warning. The chap behind the bar was very pleasant and the decor wasn't bad. The food was terrible the meat tough, reheated roast potatoes from the day before rock hard vegetables. unbelievably half a pickled egg and great chunks of bread in the cesear salad! No comment was made about the amount of food left on plates, a dead give away all is not well. The one thing that was good was the coffee although it just came with milk in a glass mug, no question if you wanted milk. We just paid the bill and got out. If they want to stay in business they need to do a lot lot better. It was a £100 down the drain! Don't bother

Turned up on a Saturday rainy lunchtime, hardly anyone in the place. We wanted a cooked lunch, but unfortunately there wasn’t much on offer on the menu. I explained that I was a Coeliac and needed to have gluten free, and the lady who I presume was either the manager/landlady offered to do anything I wanted. She explained to me what she had in the kitchen. So I had a cooked chicken breast/bacon in a gluten free roll, side salad and chips. Husband had burger etc. Food was fine, and we appreciated her help! Disappointing for this use to be a busy place, with an excellent menu!

Used to be a very nice pub/restaurant. Used to have trouble getting a table if you hadn't booked. Went on Friday evening. Place was half empty. No proper menu just a few available items on chalk board some of which were not available/sold out at 7 in the evening. Think it must have changed hands and if it has the new owners unless to they don't make improvements back to how it used to be it won't last long. For what we paid the food was mediocre at best. How can, what was once an excellent place to eat, go down hill so quickly? Having eaten there many times in the past an been really pleased I think last night was the last time. Spent best part of £100 between 4 of us was disappointed beyond words.

Boring , bland , mass produced rubbish Where to start … First of all I booked a table for two for dinner on a Saturday evening , turned up to be told that there was no record of our booking , so had to wait in the bar for a manager to assist , customer service …. Haha what an absolute joke , went and sat at an unreserved table , waitress rude and abrupt, we complained got a young lad who seemed more interested in going home than serving … we ordered our starters , garlic bread with cheese …. Being a slightly more expensive place I would have expected really good quality , I’ve had better from Morrisons, we then ordered gammon egg chips and peas , the gammon was very fatty , chips dry inside , and peas cold , cheese burger was just a cheap thick burger with slab of cheese on … chips dry , hence to say we only had a few bites before asking for a refund , this wasn’t given so I had to speak to the manager yet again who was extremely rude …. But after 15 minutes of inane responses and offers of a free meal in the future , no thanks I wanted my money back , eventually got the money back for food , drinks were ok , expensive, suffice to say we drove down to catch fish and chips , much nicer and a smile . Take note as various family members and friends have all said the same .. such a shame , could be a really good pub but it’s just a Wetherspoons in fancy exterior

Then was given someone else’s bill! Staff please check regular on your customers and inform them that if they want more drinks they have to go to bar (this was told to us after we asked for some drinks at the table) though this really shouldn’t be the case if you are sitting in the restaurant!

We were very disappointed with service staff were young people who needed an older staff member to take charge. Four adults and baby for late lunch. Table had plenty of room for pram and socially distanced. The service was a little slow but the staff were pleasant and polite. We had Gammon which was well presented and delicious, Beef Burger was excellent but the Chicken Burger was a little dry and they forgot the guacamole. Just a small thing I do prefer to eat off a china plate not a chopping board. The wood fired pizza was tasty but I would be surprised if if was cooked in a wood fire to be honest. But overall good and would visit again. I must add that it’s a family pub and the comments from the people who left the review saying it was like a crèche is totally unjustified. Our baby and the one on the table next to us we’re no trouble. The pub can hardly turn people away because they have children.

Felt like a crèche, couldn’t hear ourselves think over the screaming kids. Waited almost 2 hours for mediocre food. Staff haven’t got a clue, actually felt sorry for them. They blamed their order system for losing our order, then having a big table in front of us on the wait…Dried out chicken for me with a limp garnish where it’d sat in the hot holding for too long. One of us had a burger which was full of gristle. Will not be going back, they need some organisation as didn’t appear to be a manager in sight. Surprised to see a car-park full of expensive motors, I’m only guessing their all first timers, like us, who won’t be returning.

Booked a table for 4 people for Sunday lunch. Arrived at the restaurant at 1:30pm and ordered straight away. Food didn't arrive until 3:15pm. (1hour 45 mins later ). Appalling service. I complained after an hour of waiting, only to be told they had lost the order and would place our food order as a priority. Despite this it still took 45 minutes before our food arrived. The staff were totally clueless. I entirely agree with the last review - the staff were running round like headless chickens. There appeared to be no management of the place. The restaurant had flies milling around. My husband went to use the men's toilet and one of the cubicles had faeces all over it which was trodden into the toilet floor and left on the sink. One of us ordered a beef burger which was full of gristle. In terms of ambience, it was like being in a soft play with kids screaming and running round - not the enjoyable dining experience you want. Overall, a hideous experience and not one I will be repeating.

Visited this evening with my family, such a great shame as the food was excellent 4/5*service was abysmal, staff running around like headless chickens behind the bar, sat and waited for some service for drinks and waiting for food, same staff member not happy because I complained about the services. I think they will be OK during he summer months people eating out plus the garden but during the winter not too sure Great shame as food was good and freshly prepared 8/10 Management service 4/10 as an outsider diner would I recommend unlikely, As service was extremely poor and not customer based Restaurant was not busuy but so there should have not been any problem. Would I use it again?? they say never say never so I will say VERY unlikely shame as the food was good, Chefs need better management support you are wasted here.

Shabby garden, outdated playground, slow staff, no visible staff, (they were in the bar chatting) finally got our drinks and placed our order, took an age to arrive and the 2 children’s order didn’t appear, we asked about this as they were hungry and eating everyone’s chips, turned out they had been delivered to the wrong table and eaten! Finally we had a replacement but by then they were full of chips and didn’t want theirs ☹️ You need a front of house in the garden to check on tables wanting drinks, etc one group left as they got fed up with waiting, and didn’t bother waiting for their chips so the waitress was left wandering around with a bowl of chips looking for them. My scampi and chips was delicious (peas were cold) but overall it was not a good experience and will not be returning, such a shame. I was looking forward to a good family lunch.

Myself and my partner visited for drinks and dinner on Saturday afternoon. As soon as we sat down, we realised how much of a local pub/eatery it was. Locals were encouraged to flout the current Covid rules. Bar staff were distracted and not paying attention to anybody else other than regular customers which made us feel unwelcome and uncomfortable. I asked for a peppercorn sauce and received a small bowl full of peppercorns and barely a drizzle of sauce. I complained to the bar staff and the Manager whose rude reply was “that’s how we male it”. No apology and I refused to pay for it. One last thing, the music was one genre and on a loop and nobody considered to change it over a period of a few hours. Not what we would have expected from the only pub in the village. Given the above, I would not recommend this pub/eatery to anybody.

I have to say the roast is very overpriced when you consider if you have chicken you have to pay 95p extra for a Yorkshire pudding. My husbands beef roast came out with cold meat. Fair enough they replaced it but for that price it shouldnt have come out cold at all. Or any price come to that. We had to put our coats on at the end to try to catch attention to get the bill. Visited for lunch as a family of ten including four children in July. Raining hard ( not pub's fault obviously) which meant we had to sit inside and the kids could not use the play area outside.Organisation not the pub's finest point. Owner lady tried to get us to sit on a table laid out for seven diners. Pointed out we were a larger party and had booked but she seemed confused. Eventually seated on two adjoining tables. Young waiter lad took our order eventually but was not great at getting it correct. Food arrived in relays. Pizza was cold but tasted good I was told by the eater. Two dishes served were incorrect but eventually got sorted.Burgers were good and fish and chips were fine. Lasagne just ok.I think the owners should recruit some experienced staff and coach and train the young members as they were floundering. Tried quite hard but not up to the job of giving great customer service yet. Owner lady could do with some training as well as just smiling and saying hello is not enough nowadays. Just saw her hanging around by the door most of the time, never saw her in the restaurant. Bill was incorrect, charged too much and had to be corrected.Menu was ok but heavily reliant on burgers and chips. Pizzas need delivering to diner as soon as they come out of the oven and not be allowed to sit on the bar getting cold. More authentic pub food on menu would be good. Will return in a few months to see if improved.

We have been here several times in the past and enjoyed it. Nice to be able to sit outside with children and play area. Always previously been enjoyable. We went yesterday and sadly it was chaos and made the whole experience stressful! Maybe just a bad day, it seemed none of the staff knew what was going on and if you sit out in the garden I think you're just forgotten about! Didnt seem to be a process of how to make sure people were being served. No one checking that you have what you need. Had to chase up everything... trying to order food (three times), order drinks, get cutlery (which never came), order pudding (the basics of a pub/restaurant!). They need some kind of organisation and to tell customers what to expect when they arrive.

Our party had the scampi, chicken burger, tuna baguette and bacon and cheese burger and we couldn't fault any of it, in fact the burgers were massive!! Attended a business networking event for my touring open air cinema and did not expect to get a decent began breakfast. Turns out I was wrong. The team this morning 12/3/20 was excellent and thanks for making a effort. The “sausages” were amazing. Turns out many items on there menu if not already vegan can be veganised. Thanks again. I will be returning very soon.

On our way back from a visit to a friend’s house we were looking for a good traditional pub (hard to find now) with fair prices, good food and a warm welcome. Since the new ownership of the pub I'm so glad to say that all of the above was true and so much more. We arrived at half 11 so naturally had to wait until they started serving the food, but that did not stop George the waiter from taking our drinks order the moment we sat down, extremely prompt service from the young gentleman with a smile and happy nature. As soon as the kitchen had opened George was straight away ready to take our order. Amongst the orders we placed (two halfway house burgers, traditional fish & chips and a Ploughman’s lunch) George was informative of the quantity and quality of the meals in a refreshing, humours way. Simply put, the food was magnificent, the portion was spot on and I can only dream of what the deserts must taste like had we had any room left at all. P.S (the ploughman’s lunch was a 9/10, one of the best ones I have had in a long time, the only thing missing was the pickles! Nevertheless though, a must have as a personal recommendation)Very much looking forward to the next visit as we all firmly believe we have found a true gem of a place. Keep up the good work Halfway House!

Went here for Monday lunch. Friendly staff BUT the pub was very cold, no open fire and radiators were off. We ordered Winter stew which took a half hour to arrive. The winter stew was not what was presented, a more accurate description would have been tomato soup with some nondescript cooked winter root vegetables with an overpowering taste of tomato. Needless to say I left it uneaten. They did kindly waive payment but we will not be returning

I've been here before but this is our first visit under new management. It has a real traditional pub feeling with a roaring real fire. The food was amazing. The best roast dinner we have had to date. Very child friendly even down to making mash potatoes which isn't on the menu. Service was a little slow but i think that was mainly due to being fully booked. Certainly wouldn't put us off going again. Look forward to our next roast beef dinner and welcoming staff.

My wife and I visited The Halfway House for Valentine meal. The food was exemplary from the starter to the desert. The chocolate brownie with raspberries was to die for. We were told the chef has been perfecting it for 2 years, well i think he has definitely succeeded. The staff was very friendly and polite and Vicky and Jason are a very lovely couple who own the establishment. We've already booked for mothers day.

We came here as a family for a Christmas Eve lunch treat. The food was great, everyone got a warm welcome at the bar and the service at our table was excellent- very friendly. Lovely festive relaxed atmosphere in the whole pub. Top marks to Will who looked after our family table. It is a relatively local pub for us but having tried it years before and not been impressed with previous management we hadn’t been back for a while. The new owners have made a big difference, with fresh decor, smiley staff and a clear emphasis on good and plentiful food. We will come back.

On a blustery Friday afternoon my husband and I decided to treat ourselves to lunch at The Halfway House. We had a warm welcome from the landlady and her staff and were offered our choice of tables. There were a handful of other customers, some drinking some dining. We were very impressed with the menu, enough that there was plenty to choose from but not such a list that you don’t know where to begin! I opted for The Halfway House Burger while my husband had the Ham,Egg and Chips. Not adventurous choices but classic dishes that can easily be disappointing. When our meals arrived we were very impressed with the presentation of the food, it was visually pleasing and the portions were very generous. We both enjoyed our meals immensely and sent back completely empty plates to the kitchen! After deliberation we decided to indulge in dessert and I opted for Ice Cream Crumble while my husband had Brownie with Custard. Both dishes were absolutely delicious, my husband has a slight custard obsession and he was served an extra jug of custard with a smile. When paying the bill we introduced ourselves to the landlady and explained that we have lived in the local area for 20 years and that this was by far our most enjoyable meal we’ve ever taken there. Best of luck to the new owners...we’ll be seeing them again soon!

Visited the HWH for breakfast. Welcoming atmosphere and friendly faces. Super helpful staff. Chefs are amazing and the food was absolutely delicious. All freshly made to order. I had the Saturday special - pancakes, which consisted of 3 light and fluffy blueberry pancakes, bacon and syrup inside each layer of pancakes and 2 rashers of crisp streaky bacon on top - totally divine. I couldn’t recommend enough!

I recently visited this pub for a Sunday roast with my wife and the kids. I was very pleased with the food as it was very nice. The waitress was very cheerful and extremely polite towards my wife and kids. I asked for her name as I was so pleased with the exceptional service she delivered and she told me her name was Olivia. So I would just like to say thank you to the young girl for the smashing experience and I most certainly will be returning one day with the rest of the family.

Was in the area for an event and also see family, driven past many a time but never been in, so decided to give it a try. Was very busy and under new management, was a little disappointed that the pork belly didn’t have crackling guaranteed so opted for another option. Rather than bread sauce would have preferred stuffing with the chicken and as a previous reviewer has written chicken was a drum stick and a small bit of breast. The beef was to thickly cut, also as previous reviewer has written wasn’t fantastically hot and had to request more gravy as didn’t actually think there was anything on it. Also the menu said salmon pate as a starter, bill said mackerel didn’t think was salmon, but still tasted nice, would have been better to have been on the menu rather that served without saying it was an alternative.

Came in and the pub has been updated warm welcome but then they started to serve the people after us. Was taken to our table then they left us for 15mins before asking if we wanted drinks. Roast dinners were small and the quality is very poor, potatoes were hollow, not enough meat veg cold. I had the chicken I was given a drum stick and a small part of the breast. For the most expensive roast dinner around at £14.95 I would expect better portions and quality of food. The extras are over priced for example for extra peas and carrots £2.95 and stuffing £2.95. So my meal of roast chicken and stuffing was £17.90. We ask for extra gravy and it came in a milk jug for tea around 45 mls lol

Have visited this pub/restaurant many times in the past and have always liked it. This was our first visit since the new owners took over and we weren't disappointed. The building itself has been redecorated to a high standard but still retains the feel and atmosphere of the old place and the menu has changed but not so drastically as to shock. The food we ordered arrived quickly and was delicious and the lady who served us was really friendly and helpful. Also worth noting, because I know this will matter to some people, the beer selection is much better now than it was.

Arrived to be welcomed by the owner into a busy Sunday lunchtime. She offered us a table for the 3 of us and was very happy to sort out another table slightly further from the door. We all ordered Sunday roast including a nut roast. All the meals were excellent, with a good selection of veg, including roast potatoes cooked to perfection. Staff very friendly and attentive. I finished off with a pineapple upside down cake / custard which hit the spot. Despite the pub being fairly full, including a group of about 20, the service didn't seem to suffer. Would recommend and will be going back at some time

Been going here for years on a regular basis. It has recently been taken over and has undergone a huge facelift. It is now bright and modern with sports memorabilia hanging around the bar and on the walls. Rugby and boxing fans will love this. The staff here were and still are really good. Friendly and conversational when there is a lull in serving. Have eaten here recently and the food was good and at a fair price. There is a good choice on tap of lagers and IPA and beers on draught. A good selection of spirits too. Overall a pub worth a visit if you are in the area.

Have eaten here a few times recently and can't make up my mind if it's a good or very good eatery...hence my rating. Although my wife and I have had very good meals, my mums lamb dish was inedible. I know because I tried to eat it after she left it. Even Jaws from the Bond films would have struggled to eat that bit of lamb. We did bring this to the attention of our excellent waitress and she offered my mum a free dessert - unfortunately that wasn't that good either, but at least was edible.
