Have eaten here a few times recently and can't make up my mind if it's a good or very good eatery...hence my rating. Although my wife and I have had very good meals, my mums lamb dish was inedible. I know because I tried to eat it after she left it. Even Jaws from the Bond films would have struggled to eat that bit of lamb. We did bring this to the attention of our excellent waitress and she offered my mum a free dessert - unfortunately that wasn't that good either, but at least was edible.

Our second visit to The Bowl for a mid-week lunch. We brought my wife's parents this time, and they thoroughly enjoyed their first visit and meal. It's a very dog-friendly pub, we had our pup with us for both visits. They even allow well behaved dogs in the restaurant area - we chose to stay in the bar as they were expecting a large group for a Christmas lunch party in the restaurant. What a fantastic menu - the duck breast with blackberries was delicious (perfect potatoes and vegetables with it; all so good, and a good-sized portion), followed by a lovely bread & butter pudding with custard. A choice of three ales too! Lovely staff - the kind that smile, chat and enhance your visit - thank you and thumbs-up to them :) A gem - highly recommended!

Unfortunately the roast dinner which did not include lamb looked very sad. The roast potatoes are just boiled potatoes not crispy not cooked in any type of fat. The meat.. 2 slices is all you get. 3 or 4 would be more respectful for the price you pay. Definitely not value for money.

I had a Sunday lunch here and I heartily enjoyed it. I was particularly pleased with the range of vegetables that were available. I ordered a side of Cauliflower Cheese to go with my Roast Beef lunch, but the plate itself came with carrot, parsnip, kale and broccoli. It was great to see such a range of vegetables because many places just do one or two. The Yorkshire pudding was colossal, there was plenty of everything (such that I couldn't manage a dessert), everything was perfectly cooked, and the staff were efficient and friendly. I definitely recommend The Bowl.

There was an issue with the toilet in the bathroom. Throughout the night the toilet made a terrible noise, every 7 minutes. Because of that sleeping was impossible the whole night. We tried contacting both phone numbers mentioned in the information bundle available in the room, but nobody was available. In the morning a staff member told us they were aware that the toilet was "loud". Checking other reviews of our room we found others mentioning the same problem. Some dating back to 2023. It is unclear to us why this has not been fixed meanwhile. I hope our review helps get it resolved and for those about to be aware of the issue. Update 16 August: we received a message from the Bowl Inn apologising and mentioning "If the flush is pressed too hard and does not return to its fully upright position, it causes the macerator to continuously work". We were not really sure what to make of this, but this should be fixed.

Have stayed overnight more than a few times together with my doggy. The pub itself is lovely together with the gardens, and the private terrace attached to the room is a bonus. However, it’s unlikely I’ll stay again in future. The main reason is down to simple hygiene. It’s a dog friendly inn which is the draw for dog owners. But when your dog spends all evening sniffing around the room hunting snacks under furniture you begin to suspect the place isn’t being cleaned well enough. I moved some furniture to see what was driving the dog crazy and it was kind of disgusting to see snacks, cobwebs, dead insects, etc. behind the furniture. The (kitchen?) staff also seem to have the unfortunate habit of coming outside to smoke so their “pollution” invariably wafts its way directly into the room. Not what you signed up for. The shower cubicle is leaky, water comes out onto the floor. The flooring in the entire place just feels “sticky” if you dare to walk barefoot. Breakfast is a painful experience, waiting for >45mins. It’s inexplicable that it should take so long particularly for guests who are en route to a ferry / channel tunnel. Staff are pleasant enough although a little oblivious to feedback. Each time I have stayed there you see different staff at breakfast, like there is no permanent staff. Lastly, charging a guest for a cappuccino versus americano coffee for breakfast leaves a bit of a bitter taste in the mouth after you’re paying £160-180 for a room. It’s not really an issue of cost but of principle. An example of hospitality at its worst. Such a shame to write a less than positive review but I definitely won’t be staying again.

As the last part of a six-week driving trip around the UK, we stayed at The Bowl Inn for four nights. This is a popular pub/restaurant despite (or maybe due to?) being located on a small back road, surrounded by farms. Every part of our stay here was delightful and we actually hated to leave. The staff and owners could not have been more friendly or accommodating. We enjoyed cooked-to-order breakfasts and a nice selection of dinner items. We had one of the larger rooms (ask for room 9), which was spacious and comfortable, complete with a terrace and pastoral view. Our thanks for making us feel very welcome and at home at The Bowl Inn.

What could be a great pub is let down by the food. Under cooked and over cooked. The pie crust is rock hard and you could not taste the mint, the sausages had a weird taste and smelt out of date, the duck rolls were under cooked, the gammon pate was more like mush. Too many pubs have stopped offering traditional food, where are the Lasagnes, Shepherds pies, Jacket potatoes, Pizza, Ploughmans, a nice tasty pie with edible pastry. Fancy food not required, tasty wholesome food is wanted and needed. This is such as shame as the staff were very pleasant and there is a choice of areas to sit, inside at one of the cosy tables or in the restaurant and outside to the front or in the garden. Improve the food and the menu to make this the pub the one to go to.

The staff are welcoming, friendly and professional. The decor is very tidy and has a lovely view into the fields. The roast dinners are of good quality, the meats are delicious and other stuff felt freshly cooked. Homemade Nachos to start were superb, as were all the main dishes of Suet steak and kidney pudding, fillet beef tangine and a massive burger! No room for pudding but they also looked great. Popped in on way through from a day out on new years eve. Bar was not packed but I couldn't get to it because of 8-9 people with no spatial awareness having conversations with backs to the bar and blocking it effectively (bar staff didn't seem to be interested or notice our presence). Stood there 8-10 minutes whilst one of the locals an old guy with pure white hair stared at us as if he was weighing our souls. Left with out ether of us getting a drink. Another hidden Gem we have discovered! Booked an evening meal out with our friends and decided that the Bowl Inn would be a good venue as it was half way between Ashford and Maidstone. Being a wheelchair user, I had heard that this public house was wheelchair accessible and had no difficulty with the access and the bathroom facilities are first class. Alice made us feel very welcome and showed us to our table and drinks were swiftly served up as we placed our main course choices with Tom, who could not do enough for us. I would definitely recommend the suet steak pie! Great variety of starters and main courses on offer from the menu, but we decided to go stream in for the main courses. I visited here on a Monday lunchtime with a friend. It is a beautiful location and well laid out inside and out. We appreciated the way the tables inside were spaced out and it was a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. My friend and I only fancied a light lunch and although the menu looked delicious, the meals were a bit bigger than we fancied. We were not to worry as a quick word with the waiting staff and there was absolutely no issue in tweaking with the dishes on the menu. I had the falafel and spinach burger and rather than chips coleslaw and onion rings on the side I had a lovely salad. My friend simply fancied the fish cake which they pretties up with a light salad! We were both really pleased with what they brought us - fresh and delicious. If I had that burger again I would have a little mango chutney on the burger - yum, that’s all that could make it any better! There is a vegan menu with 3 main dishes which all looked delicious - but more for a main meal rather than a light lunch. Maybe some vegan sandwich or baguette options would be great too in future …? The waiting staff were lovely and welcoming to us and our dog. We had such a lovely relaxing lunchtime - thank you.

Myself and 3 Biker mates visited yesterday and were impressed by the changes made to the place. Full of interesting Motoring memorabilia for all Petrolheads everywhere! The young staff were friendly and attentive as well as being highly efficient in their jobs. The breakfast is at the top of the price range at £11.95, but it was cooked beautifully and the ingredients top notch. Great Coffee too! We had a great time and will certainly return. An excellent Bikers retreat!

Been going here for years on a regular basis. It has recently been taken over and has undergone a huge facelift. It is now bright and modern with sports memorabilia hanging around the bar and on the walls. Rugby and boxing fans will love this. The staff here were and still are really good. Friendly and conversational when there is a lull in serving. Have eaten here recently and the food was good and at a fair price. There is a good choice on tap of lagers and IPA and beers on draught. A good selection of spirits too. Overall a pub worth a visit if you are in the area.
