Be aware this ‘pub’ does not allow dogs and we were told so in a rude and offhand way by the person at the bar. This is not mentioned on the website. Shame.

Cosy and friendly pub! Good meat and cheese platters, and the pizzas are fabulous. Beer choices change depending on what's good, but there are a few staples if you're not a confident beer trier. Wines are pretty good too!

So friendly. Lovely atmosphere. My favourite pub. Really good gluten free beer.

The staff were efficient, helpful and friendly good cask ale and the mixed charcuterie board was lovely and good value too. I would highly recommend.

Oh my word, don't hesitate. This is the pub to go to in Knaresborough. Superb staff, fabulous food, beautiful beer. Cannot rate it higher.

Always enjoy coming here for a drink, my wife tells me the the wine is great, whilst I love YPA session ale. Nice decor and friendly vibe, good service, nice nibbles. Sometimes have to book if you want to secure a table. My second favourite Knaresborough pub if I'm just drinking, probably my first if I want a bite to eat to go with the beer.

A very friendly pub, cosy without being cramped. It also has a pleasant but small garden. A good selection of real ales, a good wine list too. Well worth a visit.

Absolutely love this pub… the staff (special mention to Tom the manager) the atmosphere, the beer …. Well everything really!! 4 well kept cask beers … always the house staple , rooster YPA (pale ale) plus an IPA, dark beer and a bitter. Small but great food menu focussed on well prepared and tasty cold platters … or pizza’s mid week Knaresborough is a fab town with some great pubs but this is the best !!!

Had a very nice drink in the half moon but £25 for a double rum n coke and a double whisky an coke had to say to the wife make that last you 😀 😉

Good beer, good staff and good ambience. Not cheap, but you get what you pay for.

Called in for an evening drink but told immediately "we don't allow dogs inside" . We spent our money across the road in The Mother Shipton inn and were very welcome. Their loss.

Great pub. Good selection of beers, in a nice location in Knaresborough.

Another lovely evening for us at The Half Moon, the food is absolutely delicious and beautifully presented. The coffee here is so good and the salted caramel and pecan brownie is to die for !!Tom and his team are so friendly and welcoming. This is one of our favourite places whether we come as a couple, bring our dogs or our friends we always enjoy our visits.

Lovely food and drink as usual. The service here is usually five star, when your glass is empty they ask you if you want another which was great. This seems to have gone by the way and you have to go to the bar for every drink now. still good but not as special Visited again after the above review. Another excellent night. The pizzas were amazing and there was table service which was great. Updated to 5 stars

Had the meat and cheese sharing platter with a nice pint of guiness. Food nicely presented on wooden platter, lovely cheeses and meats with olives, bread and a lovely spiced tomato pickle Enough food for two people. Can't wait to eat there again, top notch.

A pub run by young people. Warm, welcoming. With a very nice little courtyard in the back. Excellent cutting boards. The beer is good. But where in the UK is the beer not good???

Well worth the walk from town to this pub set in a stunning location by the river and only a 12 minute river walk to the 🚂 station although there are 80-odd steps to climb along the way. 4 cask ales available along with a large wine selection plus hot beverages.

We arrived hadn't booked(please do)we were well accomadated on abijou table for 2 the pate was good the doorsteps of bread were excellent, the pizzas were good the localbeer was well kept and tasty the pinot grigio was good ,the staff were were polite and efficient we will be back.

For me it's the best pub in Knaresborough. Great beer and drink selection, great service, in the winter it's cosy with two open fires and a fantastic atmosphere, in the summer you can drink in the park next to the river or sit at the patio or out the front. It's always the pub I recommend to people when they visit. Nice cakes too.

The Half Moon sits across from the river Nidd in a very picturesque part of Knaresborough. You can even take your drinks down to the Riverside park if you want. They offer up superb hospitality along with a good range of beers. We had a couple of nice pints from Roosters and Tiny Rebel. It's a cosy little pub with a great little yard to the back. One of our top favourites to visit in Knaresborough and well worth checking out. Dogs only allowed in the beer garden though.

I have just seen a review I put on from 6 yr ago which was 1 star..just to say this was not intentional and unsure why this came up 1. The half moon is 5 star all the way and would recommend 100%!

Lovely pub - they know how to pour a great pint of Guinness. Their midweek pizza nights are superb too.

Amazing. Beautiful pub inside, we sat near the log fire on this rainy cold night. We had garlic bread to share and a pizza each. They were very tasty. Definitely would go back and would recommend. The lads serving food and at the bar were all very friendly and very helpful. Will be returning and highly recommend this pub for a drink but definitely for food. Was too full for dessert, disappointed as the cakes on the bar looked delicious.

Check your bookings. Service absolutely terrible tonight and they weren’t even busy. No apologies by staff for mistakes.

We've been walking here from Harrogate for a number of years, well worth the walk and a real reward. Staff are unfailingly friendly, the beer very well kept, wine well chosen and glasses perfect. Food is simple but always delicious. Pate remains a favourite. Thank you all!

Seven of us comprising of 3 generations booked for Saturday lunch. We were received by a very helpful and courteous young lady who showed us to our table, gave us a few minutes and then returned to take our order. An assortment of cheese and meat boards accompaiied by hummus and pate with toast arrived promptly. Additionally two bowls of carrot and coriander soup which were delightful. The food was of exceptional quality and was enjoyed equally by the three generations. It is really refreshing to see a public house serving nutritional and high quality foods accompanied by excellent wines and beers. To sum up: An absloute gem providing fiest class food and beverages supported by efficient and very accomodating staff. We will return as soon as possible!

Firstly I was ignored at the bar as obviously a woman standing at a bar must be with one of the men (?). We had booked a table 2 weeks ago for a Christmas meal but were given a small table in a thoroughfare to the loo. When we complained we were told "To be fair we are busy" It would be much fairer to give us a decent table when booked. If you want any respect don't go here.

We hired the pub for a private function - an 86th birthday party! Landlord Tom and his team completely nailed it. Food was brilliant, service was excellent. Nothing was too much trouble - this is an A1 traditional pub. Love it and can’t recommend it enough.

Had a very nice cheeseboard here at the half moon. We had a table next to an open fire on a cold evening, the food we had was delicious backed by the great staff here. Made us so welcome. Had a great evening.

The Half Moon Free House Pub in Knaresborough is a hidden gem. Quietly located, it offers a warm and cozy atmosphere with two actively lit fireplaces. The seating area and bar are great, and the food, including pizza, meat and cheese boards, and pate, is delicious. The staff, especially Piers and Tom, are friendly and attentive. There's also an outside area with benches and heaters. The only downside is the recent change in their dog policy. Overall, it's a delightful place to visit.

Love this place, a true gem! Tom always looks after us so very well and his homemade patè is amazing. 100% reccomend

Best pub in Knaresborough. Tom,Nat and the whole team are so welcoming . Beautiful pub with log fire and relaxed atmosphere, they do brilliant cheese and meat boards as well as wood fired pizzas. We walk along the river and finish with a glass of red and cheese board - bliss !! Heated outdoor area - dog friendly … With blankets for when it turns to winter . Our definite go to for good service friendly welcome and great food !

Great place for a light bit of food, good portion sizes and perfect for lunch or light dinner. We visited mid week and was quite and had a table straight away no booking.

Don’t book to go here if you’re in a rush, terrible service, OK if you’re about 18 and mates with the Chef or Bar Staff otherwise you’ll be ignored. Cheeseboard served without separate plates and pizza mediocre, won’t be back.

Lovely cheese board. Really friendly staff. Wish the pizza menu was open on the weekend, but had a really lovely time.

What a nice pub to spend time with a gorgeous and intelligent lady. Service is first class. Helpful and caring staff. Pizza excellent and beer cold and bubbly. Looking forward to my next visit. Bring vegan cheese and they will happily add it to your pizza.

The best cheese board in Yorkshire, coupled with a cider this has to be just fantastic. Always made to feel welcome and revisit time and time again.

Always welcoming. A real fire, friendly chat and great beers. The food looked hearty. Especially recommend the Malbec wine and the Espresso Martini/ Moontini, which also comes in an indiscernible decaff version. Hard to leave once you get settled in!

Excellent, friendly, communicative team will do anything to accommodate, food was great, and choice of drinks very ample. Couldn't fault the atmosphere, booked to go back again this weekend. Update, we've been back a number of times over the last couple of years or so, always remembered by name, and service has remained high. Nat is the friendliest, warmest guy you could ever want to meet, and makes it a pleasure to try drinks, and food here. 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩

Was stopping nearby in a cottage only a few minutes walk away from here in which I booked ahead for a Saturday afternoon. Got a comfy relaxing front window seat near to the real homely fire. Staff were so friendly and helpful as we ordered our food and drinks. Firstly we had a bottle Sauvignon blanc at £17.50 to accompany our meat and cheese board at £14 with pate and toast at £6.50, I have to say the portion amount was plentiful but also it was all delicious. we was enjoying ourselves that much we stayed longer and had more drinks, my wife had 2 rhubarb and ginger gins with Tonics at £6.60 each and I had 2 Hendricks gins with tonics £7.10 each. What a lovely time we had in this traditional old welcoming free house pub in knaresborough.

Had a fab Christmas Day morning with the Half Moon we are regulars but have never gone out on a Christmas Day but the team and the atmosphere they created was fantastic so we have been converted .Thanks so much to fab Tom and his team you made our day x

Visited a couple of times while staying nearby. First time just for a couple of drinks (Black Forest Gateau Porter was amazing), then again on Sunday evening. The pub was busy when we arrived but the bar staff kept tabs on who was waiting for a table and allocated space in order very effectively. We had a mixture of meat and cheese platters which were beautifully presented and delicious. The bar staff here are fantastic, welcoming, friendly and helpful. Two warming fires were very welcoming with sub zero temperatures outside. In essence - a wonderful pub which we will be returning to next time we are in the area.

Past this pub a few times and fancied trying it out because it looks so good from the outside and it is so good on the inside. Full of local friendliness and atmosphere and a good selection of beers and food, very well positioned next to the river.
