Great nursery with greenhouses and lovely plants. There is a lovely coffee shop selling home made soup at lunchtime and also quiches and other things. The scones are wonderful and very large. If the weather is good there are tables outside in the lovely garden area and also under a canopy.

We found this place quite by accident. We were looking for a cafe having dropped off at the airport when I saw a coffee cup on a sign. So glad we went. What a little gem of a place. A good sized cafe with plenty to choose from. My husband and I had pork pie with green salad piccalilli and brown sauce. The pies were home made and delicious. Dogs are not allowed inside (a plus for us) but there are plenty of tables outside. We had a wander around the gardening area and I came away with a lovely plant for a great price. The staff are so friendly and helpful. Will definitely call in again.

We were on our way back from Leeds/Bradford airport and took the quiet road to Harrogate. Horticap is off the Otley road down a longish lane. It is surprisingly large. The greenhouses are stocked with good quality plants and all manner of garden related products. The cafe is larger than expected. It is so pleasing to be able to visit a cafe that doesn't allow dogs inside the cafe. The menu was quite extensive and offered a good choice. We opted for pork pie with green salad, piccalilli and brown sauce. Washed down with a lovely pot of Earl Grey. Service was relaxed. The pies were very tasty indeed. There is a small shop next to the cafe. All the staff were very friendly and happy to help. We didn't realise until we went out, the great works carried out by Horticap. It is an independent, registered charity with suitably qualified staff and a team of volunteers who provide adults with learning and other disabilities training in horticulture, allied crafts and rural skills. Keep up the good work. We will certainly visit again if we are over near Harrogate.

There were no clear tables we attempted to clear one ourselves but we were told of by a male chef for doing so and said there's a notice there asking you not to clear tables yourself and pointed to a makeshift cardboard sign. Which really was no use to anyone partically sighted as I am. He made us feel so unconfortable, we were only trying to help. It will be a long time before I visit there again!

A small garden centre about a mile from RHS Harlow Carr. It sells a small range of goods and a large selection of plants. Lots of door wreaths and Christmas trees when we visited. A garden seating and walk area but we go for the cafe and in particular the home made carrot cake. The menu states the name is Hopkins. It looks like it just has a few tables inside and weather permitting a patio area outside but when I went upstairs it’s a whole huge floor and covered outside balcony with seating. So much cheaper than Bettys at RHS.

Just visited Harlow Carr - well worth the time, but the queues for Betty’s were horrendous. Luckily sister is local and took us here. Nice range of lunchtime food. Friendly, willing service. Downside was we ordered just after a large party so the food took a long time to arrive. The terrace was lovely, but the wasps drove us inside. Very good value for money and brother in law loved the trio of scotch eggs. Picked up a nice couple of local food bits in the shop afterwards. All in all would go again.

Called in here after visiting Harlow Carr, 3 mins drive away. It’s easy to find on the main road and has its own parking. The garden centre plants were in really good condition, better than many other garden centres. The shop had some interesting items, from cheeses to handmade bird boxes and planters. We had lunch and it was delicious. There’s a varied menu, priced well, and the staff were all very friendly. The only improvement I would suggest is please do teapots of tea, rather than individual mugs with the teabag in. I can recommend the chicken skewers. It was our first visit but definitely won’t be our last.

I recently visited Horticap with my mother, on arrival there was plenty of room for parking, the greenhouse had an abundance of colour which was lovely to casually walk through and choose healthy looking plants. We had a stroll through the gardens, much to our delight were lots of interesting features - particularly the ‘Jubilee Display’. We enjoyed a coffee in the cafe where the staff were polite. In the shop area we were assisted by a friendly member of staff, had a good chat and she gave us advise on how to look after the plants we had purchased. A wonderful visit and thank you to the team, can’t recommend enough!

I was lucky enough to catch a live recording of a podcast show which I found really interesting, it was on sustainability- a topic which they seem to pay more than lip service to, this place has a strong sense of doing the right thing for people and the environment.
