Me encanta este bar y solía disfrutar mucho de los fideos de chile de ternera, pero ahora no lo hacen, así que tomé pasta a la boloñesa. La pasta era gomosa y la boloñesa era solo un trozo de algo que estoy seguro que estaba fuera de una lata. Volveré de nuevo como mi comida de amigos era agradable, pero tendrá algo diferente la próxima vez.

Desde que se hizo cargo de la comida ha mejorado. La razón por la que he puesto una clasificación por estrellas más baja es que mientras estaba sentado con mi hijo una persona que trabaja en el pub (tenía camiseta de compañía puesta) estaba sentado con otros vapeando. Vi a dos de ellos al menos vapeando. Aprecio que no sea ilegal hacer esto, pero dado que es un pub familiar, creo que prevalecería el sentido común y saldrías a vapear. La comida también tardó unos 45 minutos en llegar.

Ya no es un pub de cadena que sirve comidas preparadas de un gran menú de vainilla. Vuelve a ser independiente, y lo más importante para los amantes de la comida, ¡todos los platos del menú son caseros! Las hamburguesas son carnosas y luciosas, se sirven con ensalada de col casera, papas fritas dobles y aros de cebolla recién hechos. Picadillo y albóndigas - sabroso sabroso sabroso, verdura recién cocinada, y puré de papas están libres de grumos! Muy contento de tener un pub local con comida verdadera para recomendar a otros.

Visitamos el Guidepost la semana pasada después de escuchar que acababa de ser tomado, qué delicia, yo tenía el pastel de carne con patatas fritas y mi compañero tenía el picado y las albóndigas. Lo mejor que hemos tenido en la zona durante mucho tiempo y la comida llegó rápidamente, decidimos que volveríamos a probar el almuerzo del domingo, y me alegro de haberlo hecho. El mejor almuerzo del domingo que he tenido, he comido cordero y mi pareja ha comido carne de res, no soy de los que comen repollo rojo o coliflor pero me alegro de haberlo probado... ¡Delicioso! Los nuevos propietarios son amables y el personal no puede hacer lo suficiente por usted. Me alegra tener este lugar para un servicio rápido y excelente. ¡Las porciones también son enormes!

Teníamos Fish and chips. El rebozado era muy beige y grasiento. No es agradable. Estoy presumiendo un cambio de chef. Muy decepcionado.

Pastel de carne con trozos de filete tierno y hamburguesa con tocino y queso - muy sabroso y bien cocinado. Patatas fritas caseras adecuadas 😋 y ensalada decente con la hamburguesa. Nos pareció una buena relación calidad-precio. Buena selección de bebidas. Siempre ha sido un 'pinta agradable' Agradable servicio para arrancar. Gracias. Volveremos.

Llamado en aproximadamente un par de semanas un jueves el pub estaba ocupado y tenía el pescado y patatas fritas más maravilloso... Así que volvimos a visitar la semana pasada creo que han cambiado al chef lo decepcionante que fue el pescado con patatas fritas grasientas exageradas y la actitud del personal fue horrible... ¡no volvería!

Thought id try the guidepost I had heard they had the food back on. I thought I would give the gammon and chips a try they were delicious!! They had real chips as well omg. The staff were helpful and cheery the pub it self is nice with good parking and outside seating as well i think it would be nice in the summer.

Had a nice time here we chanced upon the place whilst traveling through the village, thought why not have a pint, we ended up staying for a quite a few more.

After someone said to try The Guide Post, I was very disappointed with my meal, which was of very poor quality and very pricey for what was served. My wife was not happy also, and she left most of her food. The kids food was a joke! Even my pint was not right! The place is very tatty and the staff are not really friendly - the atmosphere was poor, and the place needs good deep clean. There was a lot of loud swearing from the bar area too. I will not be visiting again and would not recommend this place to anyone! I wish I had checked on trip advisor first, as it correctly ranks this place near the bottom of the pub charts in the whole area! A waste of my time and money!

Well I can truly say the childrens menu is appalling ordered pitza and chips at the cost of £5.95 it was as frozen Chicago town pitza cooked in the microwave day light robbery it must cost 50p for the meal to be made. Then there is the toilets the woman’s toilets stink haven’t smelt anything like it the toilet bowls haven’t been cleaned for god knows how long It’s such a shame because the bar itself is lovely with some great features

Love this pub been going fot pint Madri now and then. They have now started up food and it was spot on the staff are so friendly and very welcoming highly recommend 💜

Thoroughly enjoyed the food, the grazing menu options are great value for money the southern fried chicken strips are a generous portion and the chicken gravy was nice. Mushroom toast and duck gyozas also went down well. Great service and thoroughly adhering to COVID measures, can’t fault our local.

I think it was the manager that served me and my daughter on the 23rd what a lovely friendly lady she explained everything when we went in never stopped running around after us and all the customers hats off to her. Will definitely rerun food was amazing Thank you for a lovely evening

My first visit although my parents used to come here from Washington a lot 30/40 years ago. Food was good and the service friendly and fine.

Recently started going back to The Guidepost and had decent meals for few weeks but tonights wasn’t a good experience at all. One meal was delayed as the chef had ‘forgot to put burger on’. Chips were skinny fatty fries instead of fat chips. Disappointed to be nearly finished other meals to then find that when it arrived the burger had clearly been rushed - watery burger and found to be pink and raw in the middle. Waitresses were apologetic, refund given for that meal and a free dessert offered however this just shouldn’t happen.

We used to come here 30years ago Friday nite as a couple Sat afternoon with kids for tea before Knight rider etc.Anyway driving past and decided to revisit.The decor is great nice to see they still have sep bar.We decided to eat choosing Rump lite and mixed grill.The meals were well presented and well cooked we even had room for desserts.Overall we had an enjoyable nite with good food well presented.

This was where my now husband and I had our first date, long time ago, was wonderful, fab place , very welcoming, and food fab, staff very pleasant,

We were there a few weeks ago and it was fine, decided to pay another visit today and have been so disappointed. The food was very poor and seemed to be put together with no thought to presentation. Sorry won't be back :-(

It was nearing lunchtime and my wife and I decided that we ought to have something to eat. We were driving through Springwell and decided to go into the Guidepost where we did some of our courting and indeed I proposed to my then girlfriend at the time. That was over thirty years ago. Inside the pub is a superbly decorated and designed interior. The menu is extensive as is the range of gins. The food was OK and the welcome could not have been more friendly. I recommend a visit.

We live in the village and usually eat in the Guidepost a couple of times a month. The past few times we've noticed a decline in quality and quantity. Last night we both got fish and chips. The portion of fish was about 2/3 the size it used to be but it's the chips that were awful. They have always been nice and chunky, a deep golden brown and plentiful. What's happened? The past couple of visits, we've been served anaemic looking chips, slightly greasy and not as many. We've been disappointed the past couple of visits so may shift more of our meals over to the Engine Room where the food is consistently good.

Staying in Newcastle for the weekend and decided to try this pub for an evening meal.

Not sure if there’s been some changes or not as we regularly visit (approx 1 visit a month) however last night meal was poor.

i bring my father here for good home cooked pub food. plentiful portions even on the smaller sized dishes available.the food is well cooked and presented. the normal range of pub food you would expect

Fui a la guía hoy con mi familia. La comida no era muy buena y el servicio no era excelente. La actitud del personal fue terrible y no volveremos.

Fui a este lugar a las 4 45 pm, letrero en el exterior anuncia comida servida hasta las 6 p.m., la madre con discapacidad luchó en dos pasos ya que el acceso para discapacitados no estaba claramente marcado, encontró un asiento para que me dijeran comida que no se servía ahora, cuando le pregunté al letrero del exterior "La cocina está bien cerrada". Una simple señal de afuera hubiera ayudado bastante. Un negocio que no merece la costumbre.

Visitamos el jueves a mediodía. Pedimos 2 porciones de hígado y salsa de cebolla. No hay puré de papas listo así que eligió papa chaqueta.

Solía amar el almuerzo del domingo, sin embargo hoy y la última vez en octubre fue horrible.

good old fashioned pub food, all the old favourites, reasonably priced and good portions. clean restaurant area.

Returned to The Guide for Sunday Lunch used to be a family favourite. What a let down first they got the order wrong then the veg was under cooked the roast beef stringy and my yorkshire pudding burnt and inedible we know we should have asked for it to be changed but after they had already had two meals returned from other customers we just decided to leave ours and go. So sad as this used to be a great place for Sunday lunch you had to book a table that has now changed plenty of tables and now we know why.

Not only has the interior perked up since the refurb, so too has the food! Thursday night is pub quiz night - challenging, good fun, and lovely quiz hostess! Sooooooo pleased to have a local pub to recommend to others.

Re-visited this place today after 3yr as my brother wished to re-try for his birthday.

We called into the guidepost yesterday whilel out walking the dog. The staff were so friendly and helpful. Nothing was a bother to them. We will definitely be returning.

A tad apprehensive this return but needn't have worried, the food was a vast improvement, the waiting staff very friendly, price wise quite canny all in all a canny evening.

Poor quality of service, ordered food and waited over 50mins to have our food order sent out wrong!!

Visited here on Sunday afternoon after leaving Wetherspoons in Concord because we couldn't find a clean table. This turned out to be a good decision. This pub was very clean and as after 3pm was fairly quiet. We were initially disappointed because they were no longer serving Sunday lunch, however, we were both well pleased with our choice of food. I opted for the steak and ale pie which was home made and very tasty. My friend opted for a steak and she was equally pleased. Will definitely visit again.

Visited for lunch, great menu, great choice of food, wonderful staff, certainly worth a visit. 2 meals at lunch time for less than £11.

Called hear before we went to the theatre in Town, for a meal, first mistake, the chaps meals were the same, and the same problem occurred with each meal ( the beef burger ) which you needed a steak knife to cut also extremely well done (charred) would be a better description really, the ladies meals were okay but nothing special, the beer wasn't too bad.

Been drinking and eating here for a couple of years now. The food is nice, not expensive and decent quality. The people who drink in there are mostly nice and friendly. The bar staff however are horrible with the exception of the young blonde girl who is polite and courteous. Having watched the behaviour of the landlord I can only draw the conclusion they follow his terrible example. He seems to be extremely pleasant and polite to certain customers yet rude and ignorant to others. If he doesn’t like you he will go out of his way to do anything but serve you. And a lot of the time will just ignore you. The older staff seem to follow his lead, pleasant with some customers then rude and impolite to others. If I didn’t find it so ridiculous I wouldn’t go back but I now get a strange satisfaction drinking in there when they obviously don’t want me there.

Known about this pub for ages but never been. So I decided to take my son for lunch. My first impression was trendy very clean pub. Staff really friendly, I had lasagne which was pipping hot really tasty whilst my son had hunters chicken which he was impressed. It was so good I booked the family in for Sunday lunch which was excellent. There are other pubs in the area which aren't as good as this one. (Read my reviews)

Turned up without booking at 4pm on a Sunday 6 adults and 4 children. I can honestly say we were all impressed with the food we had, decent portion size and tasted lovely. Service was excellent and we didn't wait too long considering we had chosen different dishes. We will definitely go back again I can't believe it's only 5 minutes from home and we've never been before.

Visited this pub/restaurant few weeks ago and after a long wait for food we were disappointed to receive Luke warm meals. After apologies from the staff we were given replacement meals which were lovely.

Después de un día con tubos fugas traumáticas, etc. me decidí a la local por una pinta y un té. Teníamos dos comidas especiales del jueves noche parrilla y un 16 oz de cadera para mi hijo.

Acogedor pub con rara vez visto vseen separada como la mayoría de los pubs están todos. El extenso menú que te deja muchas opciones. Ofertas especiales en cada día, así como un menú de ahorro. El personal era amable y acogedor y abierto en algunas de sus opciones de dicho menú preparado y luego fueron compradas por ellos añadido a tales como pastelería, etc. para tartas Tenía recientemente ha renovado así era limpio, fresco, de diseño actual y olía bien. La comida era muy buena, muy buena relación calidad-precio con un servicio excelente. Merece la pena y he vuelto dos veces más consistentemente resultados goid Bueno ver un pub local en un pueblo bonito poner el esfuerzo en años completos con un gran número de locales para comer y variada establecimiento.

Así pues hoy visitamos El como no habíamos sido desde la reforma, era bastante completo y nos dijeron que esperar 20 minutos, lo que estaba bien. 1 hora y 10 minutos más tarde recibimos nuestra comida con un 4.49 técnico murmuró siento su espera. La comida era muy bueno como siempre pero pedí patatas fritas de camote y fichas recibidas, habría mencionado esto, pero no quería esperar otra hora para llegar a ellos, ya que oí que algunos no tenían uno de todos modos! Habría estado bien que han contado y la mantenga informada de cuánto tiempo la comida sería en vez de ignorar los clientes y quejarse a los asiduos sobre personas que se habían quejado. Agradable pub, buena comida decepción por el mal servicio al cliente, por desgracia.

recently renovated and the carpets still smell new. typical pub menu with good portions and fairly priced.the normal things you would expect on a village pub all cooked to a reasonable standard

We popped in here for a spot of lunch, just wanting a jacket potato or a sandwich, we got the menu & thought we'd try something more, I ordered the hunters chicken & the wife got corned beef pie, the chips were perfect & the chicken was lovely & succulent, I know it was only pub grub, but it was very tasty & the staff were very friendly, I think we'll be trying here again, lovely quick visit & recommended

We want to The Guidepost for Sunday lunch we all it pork. The only way to describe the food was bland, over cooked, the Yorkshire puddings were burnt, we had no stuffing or cracking. There's no way I will be going back !!!

Called in recently to check out the update and we have to admit that the place a lot cleaner and modern, job well done.

Visited today for lunch, first time since it's refers. Superb, looks amazing, very busy had to Waite a while for table but was well worth the Waite. Staff are excellent friendly and attentive. I would recommend it to all. Will be back again soon. Well done

I would like to start with I would have asked my daughter to post this on the Guideposts Facebook but I’ve been told they have the facility to remove comments etc that’s why I’m posting this on TripAdvisor. I took the wife to the Guidepost for a meal yesterday and to have a look at the refurbishment we both enjoyed our food and the place does look very nice (apart from I thought the toilets would have been refurbed as well) the only thing that spoilt our visit was the manager’s arrogance. He was standing at the bar and watched as I walked over for a pint he then walked away to look for another member of staff to serve. I can’t say for certain but I think he had words with the member of staff that served me because they were busy doing their job in another part of the pub and meaning he would of had to serve. I was going to ask the manager what his problem was but I didn’t want to make a scene.Nice pub shame about the Wear inns choice of management.I won’t be in any hurry to return anytime soon.

On a Thursday night the pub hosts a quiz which runs for several hours and part way through they provide sandwiches, nuts and other snacks to those raking part. Great fun on a Thursday

I have been to guidepost several time with family before and the food has been ok, took my mother yesterday to find some of the menu wasn't available due to getting a refit very soon, we both had mixed grill and asked for the meet to be well cooked as I didn't like to see blood. I cut into the steak to find it was still blue and instead of having gravy on my plate I had blood touching everything, the chips were not cooked properly and peppercorn sauce was thick as glue. We couldn't eat the meal as it made me feel ill, the next day me and my mother are both very sick it could have nothing to do with the food but who knows.

I normally give this place 5 stars great friendly staff, good food reasonably priced drinks good atmosphere and some great music at the weekend. What has happened to the chips what we had on Saturday looked the part tasted the part but were too hard all 3 of us left them. I used to love the chips here but those on Saturday were really hard not in being under cooked but as in overcooked too crispy. Please change them back thank you

Visited the Guidepost on 19th Sept with some friends and the food was very good, the homemade chips were excellent and we all loved them. The portions are a good size & it's all reasonably priced including the drinks. Staff friendly and pub clean and welcoming.

Whet there on a Monday afternoon with my girlfriend I had a guidepost burger and my girlfriend had a 8oz steak, the hand cut chip were to die for and my girlfriend said the steak was cook perfectly the staff were great and I will be coming back again.

Lovely food will be going back again ,staff are friendly and the menu is very reasonable a lot of choice .

I recently visited The Guidepost for some food and it was delicious, I had the Hunters Chicken with home made chips (The chips which were the best part about the meal) Would definitely recommend it for food to anyone!!

First time I have visited, lovely place, staff couldn't do enough for you. Drinks are very well priced with a good selection. The menu offers wide range all very well priced. We had the Guidepost Burger, fabulous fresh burger with homemade chips (that sealed the deal for me) will definitely be returning & telling friends to try it out. Hadn't eaten here in a while due to poor food on our last visit. A friend had said that the chef had changed and they had had nice food so we decided to give it another try.Not such a good idea. The usually nice and tasty hand cooked chips were awful, pale, laden with grease and tasteless. The Meadow burger lacked taste and was overcooked with a soggy brioche bun which was still cold on the bottom. Still the same chef. I wouldn't have eaten the food at home if that's how it had turned out - let alone feel that it was worth serving to others. No pride in what is being served.We were asked if our food was okay and I told the member of staff about the chips. He gave the reason as the potatoes they had been supplied with were not the ones they had ordered. He changed them for sweet potato fries which weren't much better.When it came to have our plates cleared we told another member of staff about our disappointment with the food and she was apologetic but also mentioned about the potatoes not being what they expected.I would agree with previous reviews - DO NOT EAT HERE.Lovely pub for a drink, staff are pleasant but won't be eating here again unless changes are made. A friend of mine was eating there when we arrived and she said the same - they won't be going back.

Went there a few times while here on holidly, as my daughter does not live far from it. Had a great choice of food for a lunchtime menu. It was very reasonably priced and offered discounts for pensioners.

I've used the Guidepost for many years it did have nice staff and a friendly atmosphere and i did say to my self that I wouldn't be returning any time soon as I was shocked by the way I heard the manager speak to a member of his staff, It was appalling and his attitude was disgraceful. It is unacceptable behavior and I wouldn’t expect anybody to be spoken too in that way. I thought It might of been a one off so went back to the Guidepost and guess what? yes i witnessed it again.I emailed Wear Inns about this matter back in February and thought I would of had a response/reply by now as to why this is acceptable behavior in one of there pubs but I haven't.

I decided to take my mam out for a meal,we both decided to get the 8oz Rump steak both over cooked.The steaks weren't even rumps.Homemade chips were uncooked.Would never return for food.

What ever anyone does DO NOT make the mistake of eating here, absolutely awful! Quite possibly the worst meal we have ever had, greasy, to the point my burger slipped out of my hand. Waitress noticing we had barely touched food didn't bother asking how the food was so I decided to tell her how bad, after 10mins another member of staff comes to offer A Free drink as some kind of recompense, however as we were both feeling in-impressed by. The grease covering our palate we politely refused and gave the requested feedback on what was wrong with the meal. At which point said member of staff said she would speak to the manager. Alas after a further 10 minutes and with no sign of any staff we decided to leave. A total waste of money and have to admit a real shame as a local pub and for a family that likes to eat out certainly somewhere I would never wish to eat again.

I went with my wife for tea and the fish and chips were under cooked the batter was soggy but the chips were lush and my wife enjoyed her home made pie. but im sure ill go back coz it is a nice pub. and we never got a food check back.

The steaks are always tasty and cooked to perfection. Homemade chips are delicious. The last time we had fish and chips they were really nice.However, I've been here many times over recent years and unfortunately the quality of some of the food has deteriorated. Burgers aren't as nice as they used to be and the vegetarian lasagne is smothered in melted cheese. Some of the meals are like poor quality frozen meals. Could it be quality is being sacrificed for price?Staff are always friendly and helpful and service is good. Reasonably priced nice wine and superb Carling lager.

I live up the road from here so although it's handy for quick pub food it's not actually the nicest. The starters myself and my sister got were over priced. £4.00 for chicken strips expecting quite a few we ordered a plate to share and upon arrival had just 3 strips of small crispy chicken. I ordered a Cajun chicken burger for main and expected it to be glazed / seasoned chicken breast in a burger however it was not, it was as it appeared burnt over seasoned chicken that was impossible to even stomach after one bite! This been said I would not rule it out as a no go ever again, I would definitely be willing to go back and try something new from the menu.

Been eating and drinking here since the 1990s managers have come and gone but the current managers have got it spot on. Food here is great and good value for money, the Sunday lunch is to die for. I would have done loads of reviews for the guide post but could never find it on tripadvisor. It was only by chance that I spotted it listed under newcastle rather than Washington,Springwell or Gateshead. Go on give it a try you will be pleasantly surprised.

Great place for a tasty pub meal on a budget. Don't expect gourmet food , but if you fancy a tasty burger or fish and chips this place is worth a visit.

We visited the Guide Post after hearing good things about the evening offers. We called in one lunch time, 6 adults (3 of which were over 60's) the menu choices were varied. The over 60's opted for the 2 course special. 2 f us had lovely mixed grill with sauce accompaniement of Diane for me and peppercorn for the other. Cajun chicken was other diners choice. All the meals were splendid. I can wholeheartedly recommend the lovely handcut chips and there was plenty of them. The staff couldn't of been more kind and helpful if they tried. All in all, great meal, super value and fab staff.

I went there for a family meal. There seemed a good choice. The Sweet potato fries were very nice as were the onion rings. My mixed grill was nice, but a bit on the small side I thought. My wife had fish and chips. The batter was very hard and the fish below was a bit dry. The girls all had afters, so I pinched a bit of each - quite nice they were too. The drinks were ok - soft drinks are quite pricey in uk pubs though. I would return if i was passing.
