We visited your cafe after a walk to Berry head with our 2 dogs. It was a beautiful afternoon and you were busy. However, the staff were welcoming and polite and it was lovely to see the support one young person was giving to a new member of staff. Your staff are a credit to you. I ordered a cream tea. The scone was huge and warm and delicious. On a second visit, I had a wonderful salad with goats cheese and beetroot. Fantastic! Thank you.

We had a lovely breakfast at the Guardhouse Cafe, huge doorstop bacon sandwich and a pot of tea. The bacon was crispy, bread super soft and it was huge! Staff are welcoming and when we went, it wasn’t too busy. There were ALOT of regulars with dogs that obviously meet up for coffee, so lots of tables were moved about to accommodate them. I expect in the summer, it would be too busy for me personally but with great food and an amazing view, I can understand the attraction!

O Dear! We have the pleasure of visiting South Devon quite regularly and often visit The Guardhouse Cafe for a delicious Breakfast or Lunch. However last week was a disappointment to say the least! We entered the Cafe to receive the usual warm welcome and handed menus to peruse. A few more regular/local people entered and were each warmly welcomed and attended to while we waited - and waited. After nearly 20 minutes of waiting to have our order taken we realised that "the regulars" came first so up and left - very disappointed as well as hungry! Yes, regular patrons SHOULD be looked after but also visiting customers who may well return in future.

Came up with the dog on a very breezy Easter Monday morning and after a long walk needed sustenance. The cafe was open for hot and cold food to carry out. Steady trade. It cost us just over a fiver each for four teas/coffees, three huge homemade sausage rolls and a large hunk of vegan chocolate cake. Served quickly and consumed by the low wall in a gale with our backs to the sea. Excellent.

Despite living in the area all our lives, this was our first visit to Berry Head.Area generally is amazing with stunning coastal views. We had stopped for a coffee and cake on arrival and found the service friendly with a good cake selection. I need to eat Gluten Free so had carrot cake, but there were a couple of other options.Once we had looked around the site, we couldn't decide what to do for lunch. I had spotted a couple of gluten free options on the menu when ordering coffee. So rather than drive elsewhere, park up and then try to find somewhere that catered for me ..we decided to return. So glad we did!My wife chose a beetroot and halloumi salad. Which she said had a fantastic pesto sauce.I can't recall the full name of my beef dish, but it was served with Gluten Free bread, beetroot ketchup, salad and crisps. It was lush!Good service, with little waiting too.

In these difficult times for cafe's its wonderful to see such a well organised and extremely friendly place. Despite the obvious need to restrict flow into the cafe, waiting time was fine and the food superb. I can whole heartedly recommend the bacon sandwich; the bread is tasty and fresh, while the bacon filling never seems to end. My wife had a crab sandwich and echos my sentiments.Views from Berry Head are stunning, while the range of coastal and other walks are superb. Went up for breakfast today, and we were pleasantly surprised by the excellent quality of food. I had Huevos Rancheros which was so good, and my husband had the cooked breakfast. The service was good, and the staff friendly and polite. Service with a smile makes such a difference - (I add this in as we went somewhere else in Brixham, not far away, and found the staff very offhand, so I appreciated feeling that, as a paying customer, I was welcome!) The coffee was good too. Being early, there wasn’t really a wait, but to be honest, waiting can’t be helped in the current situation when places are busy, and I would happily wait for good service and good food! I will be going back here for sure.

Our friends and us were visiting the area and decided to stop and have a snack. Due to COVID they were only using the outside tables which allowed social distancing t be easily observed. You queued up on one side of the building with a simple one way system and exited the other side. They took your name and you exited to your table. Then when your food was ready they came out and called your name ad they delivered your food.We only had drinks and bowls of chips and it is a shame that COVID has forced a reduced menu. But that will improve sometime in the future. The service level was good an even included the owner (I think) coming out to apologise for the length of time processing everyone. It was a beautiful day which meant loads of people wanting drinks and food.

Had the pancakes, the wife had an omelette on toast. Couldn’t fault either. 99% of the staff (ie the youngsters) were absolutely lovely. The view is superb. I’ve deducted a star because I got “told off” by the older woman working there. Granted, I went in through through the exit door, but only to enquire where I could leave a tip, and the reaction was as if I had walked in with a hose spraying Covid 19 everywhere. I understand the Covid 19 concern, but the rest of Brixham is certainly not concerned with self-isolation, at least if the harbour is anything to go by this week (late Aug 2020). Anyway, I recommend a visit on her day off.

Lovely cafe serving a range of delicious food. I had a simple summer salad which was gorgeous washed down with a glass of Prosecco! They have a good system set up for taking orders - ( you will need your mask to go in and place your order and potentially choose ice creams). You then go and sit down. All tables are outside - eating in is not an option. The service was amazingly quick considering how busy they were. Food was brought to the table. All waiters and waitresses were professional and friendly. After lunch we were lucky enough to see a large pod of dolphins swimming just of the headland. If you’re looking for something to do, I would recommend visiting Berry Head and stopping for refreshment at this great cafe!

My husband, my son and I headed to the cafe this lunchtime and storm Ellen was well and truly blowing. As usual, the service and food quality was exceptional and the staff made allowances for the weather - sheltering food from the wind and asking customers to place their used plates and cutlery at a specific place to avoid any unwanted littering on the nature reserve. The thought and planning that occurs daily for this cafe to run so successfully must be exhausting. It is a stunning place to eat - not just for the scenery but also the broad and varied menu. We really feel proud to call this our 'local' cafe because the customers and the reserve it is located on are thought of with sincere care.Keep up the good work.X

What a fantastic place - visited yesterday, and had the most delicious meal in the most stunning situation... we even saw dophins and porpoises off Berry Head, after our lunch. It was great, in spite of the juggling of people/masks/wind & rain/trying to distance, and lovely clean loos..... I think the staff were doing a great job, seeing as how busy it was. All the Covid rules and Eat Out/Help Out regulations are tricky to enforce, but everyone was trying really hard. I understand that they cannot put up umbrellas over the tables as it is a conservation site and you cannot bang things into the ground, which I suppose is understandable, but makes the Cafe a bit of a hostage to the rainstorms! I will be back, even when the Chancellor's 50% special offer is over.

Been here many, many times over the years and would always recommend it and give it 5 stars. But that was pre covid 19. Over the last several days we've breakfasted here 3 times but today was the final straw. We've noticed the breakfast was downsized, but today we were denied the 50% government covid 19 discount because we were not eating at the outdoor table in the monsoon rain with no parasol!! UNBELIEVABLE! We chose to eat our bacon sandwich and coffee on their step at the front of the building, under cover. But this isn't good enough, we have to sit at the table in the rain to get the discount. There is no seating inside due to covid 19. The doorstep sandwich is simply not value for money. At £6-50 for bacon and green leaves it is pure profiteering. Tourists might pay it but locals won't.See what happens in the winter months!!

After a New Year Walk we were looking forward to lunch at The Guardhouse. We ordered the gnocchi, which was tasty, but just such a ridiculously small portion ...maybe ok for a child, but certainly not worth the £9 we each paid. Also too expensive ..for what is after all a small, crowded cafe, with an unrelaxing ambience..we found it to be noisy, crowded, cluttered, and filled with muddy and smelly dogs.

We popped in and had breakfast here. It’s nearly on the headland so popular with walkers and dog friendly. I had a Christmas breakfast hash to eat. My wife had freshly made pancakes, crispy bacon and maple syrup. My breakfast hash consisted of chopped chorizo, carrot and Brussels sprouts, fried with three eggs added. It was really tasty and something I may experiment with when cooking at home. We both had latte. Service was ok the friendly waitress obviously knew lots of regulars as she spent a lot of time chatting to people. Would recommend a visit if you are in the area as you can walk off a good breakfast around the nature reserve afterwards.

Beautiful views whilst eating/drinking. Food is good, we had a breakfast and was a good size portion with the biggest slice of toast I had ever seen!

Even though the weather was particularly atrocious with heavy rain and high winds we made our way up to the café for lunch. We were not disappointed the views were amazing and the service in the café was very good. The food was excellent and I can recommend the walk even in bad weather.

The rave reviews drew me and my family to this cafe on a recent morning visit to Paignton: 'great food, great location, great staff' and, yes, someone mentioned it was 'a favourite with dog walkers'. Well, certainly a great location, staff seemed young and keen and the menu definitely appeared far more sophisticated and intriguing than your average greasy spoon. All indications pointed to a breakfast that would reward a meandering 20 minute drive through morning traffic, narrow streets and lanes, a hike from the car park and a £2 parking fee awaiting my return an hour later. However, after placing my order for traditional breakfasts and taking my seat, I soon found the cafe filled with a fraternity of local owners and their even more excited dogs (6, 8, 10? No exaggeration), who had free reign to run around tables, bark, sniff and do what dogs should do, dare I suggest, outside in parks. It felt like eating breakfast in the vet's waiting room. I had to stop a dog entering the toilet with me. And the breakfast? Bog standard greasy fare.

We stopped off here whilst out for a stroll around Berry Head. This is a lovely cafe with beautiful views. Also a great range of drinks, teas, soft drinks, some beer & wine options too as well as a great range of food - we had some lovely cakes. Very dog friendly, lots of dog walkers having a pit stop.

Friendly service, warm interior, dog friendly and the most amazing coffee latte. The jam on offer for the cream tea was divine!. They offer an interesting menu and we would definitely return.

First of all a big 'TY' to the reviewers who told me about it. Imagine arriving on a cold, windswept October day and walking up from the car park dreading that the café would not be open. And. at first sight. it wasn't ! But it was ! and it was filled with walkers and dogs and when you saw the menu it was no wonder. There is a really good choice and every day they have specials on offer. You get two Napoleonic forts, a lighthouse and superb views free !

Berry Head is a fine place for a walk and the Guardhouse adds to the pleasure. Good food, freshly prepared and served by friendly staff. Sometimes I just stop for coffee then have trouble resisting the excellent cakes and pastries. Also a good choice of food for lunch or breakfast. Especially worthwhile at an outside table when the weather is good, don't miss out if you are in the area.

The coffee was lovely. The staff were lovely, but in this day and age skinny milk should be offered let’s face it even if they waste some of it a 4 pinter won’t cost them much. Both myself and my sister wanted skinny milk only semi skimmed was offered. It’s like going back in time. we really liked it here, but I don’t understand why more choices of milk weren’t offered.

Gorgeous cream tea and the scones were slightly warmed. Best coffee of our holidays and courteous staff. We can’t fault anything we had. We even stayed for another cuppa. If only we lived locally as I’d come back again

Nice relaxed atmosphere, with good choice of food. A group of 6 of us had a range of choices to eat, with wine and pretty good standard overall. Personally, I found the jerk chicken little more than a chargrilled chicken bread, with no authentic jerk heat, but with the rice etc, it was a nice meal. Just not what I had hoped. The other 5 were happy with there choices though, the salmon getting particular praise.

EXCELLENT COFFEE & BISCUIT WITH THE COFFEE, so nice we stayed for two cups!! Very dog friendly staff made lots of fuss of our dog as did other customers coming in making a fuss of him. TREATS AVAILABLE FOR DOGS TOO which was a lovely thought and deserving of business. BEING NEW TO THE AREA AND HAVING BEEN TURNED AWAY FROM OTHER NOT AS NICE CAFES NOT DOG FRIENDLY it was nice to find a genuine dog friendly cafe. There is a step into the cafe which makes it inaccessible for disabled people and unsure if there is a portable ramp, didnt see a sticker on window saying there is one available? Something that can be addressed and advertised on website by owner which would allow us to come back with other members of our family and Im sure bring in other customers/tourists looking for accessible cafes.
