The Babbacombe Bay Cafe in Torbay

We were waiting for our orders to be taken but no one came over to us even though there were 4,5 members of staffs. There was other table who were being served first who got there after us. We waited 15/20 minutes from being seated. I don’t want to think that it was discrimination but I can’t think of any other reasons why our group was left out for so long. We got up and left as we don’t want to support the people or a business who have got that mind set.

Beautiful place, great service and fantastic food, will definitely be back!

I sat at the table but they didn't take my order. Guests who arrive late to other tables are received first. Completely ignored They said they ignored me because I was Asian. I can't help but doubt This is a very rude restaurant.

We wanted to enjoy a nice meal at this café, but they ignored our order. We waited for a long time for them to take our order, but they served other customers who arrived after us and completely ignored us. The staff at this café seem to be racist. It was a very disappointing and upsetting experience.

What a “gem” of a place in a perfect setting !!! Ordered a cream teas for two with coffee & a pot of tea . The service is exceptionally good and the food simply “divine” . The cafe was a hive of hustle and bustle during a very busy day but this did not affect the enjoyment of our afternoon. So as the saying goes “Keep Calm” and drink tea !

This is the second time we've dined here, and both times we've had issues........ The first time we placed our order and it did not arrive, after waiting more than 30 mins. It was only a cream tea for goodness sake !! After chasing staff to ask where our meal was, we were told they were busy and it would be coming as soon as possible, even though we pointed out that people around us, (that placed their orders AFTER us) had in fact been given their meals. After another 10 mins waiting, our order arrived without any apology !!! The second time was today....... We ordered a cream tea (which included a pot of tea), a sandwich and a coffee. The cream tea arrived with the pot of tea, but NO COFFEE. I had to wait at least a further 15 mins before the sandwich to arrive, to then ask... "where was my coffee " ??? The sandwich was lovely, but the cream tea A HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT for the high price !! (2) scones which were quite 'heavy (stodgy) A Small Clotted Cream (which was just enough to divide between both scones) An extra small pot of jam that didn't even do one scone, let alone (2) !! So pretty much one scone we ate dry due to lack of cream and jam !! A DISGRACE FOR THE PRICE CHARGED. All in all..... we won't be returning and don't recommend. Service rubbish, food good but prices high AND if you are after a Cream Tea or Afternoon Tea.....go to The Angel Tearooms, a few doors down. Their prices pretty much the same but you get plenty of Clotted Cream and Jam, a better choice of scones (more variety) and lighter in consistency AND good service !!!

Lovely little cafe for a drink, we didn't eat in there but offered a take away one night. We picked it up, it was all hot and delicious abs lovejoy that we could take it back to rented house

Visited here with family members for breakfast. Really good menu, catering for all tastes. I had the English breakfast which was probably the best English breakfast I've ever had. All quality ingredients with good portions. The setting is extremely pleasant & the service was excellent.

I don’t normally leave reviews but had to after this mornings breakfast .. Fabulous spot for breakfast . Sunday morning sat in the sun ( luckily ) admiring the beautiful view overlooking the downs . Friendly and efficient staff . Quick service and one of the best breakfasts we’ve had for a long time . Highly recommend.

Came for my sister in laws baby shower, the high tea was lovely and we had a nice time, however upon payment, we were told the High tea had increased in price from today, from £18.95 to £25. It was booked and deposit was paid based on £18.95, prices on the menu were still £18.95 and online still £18.95. Considering the waitresses said they were told that increase was from today, it would have been nice if they had mentioned it when we arrived. I appreciate times are hard and cost of living affects us all, but a £6.05 increase seems quite steep. A courtesy email to the booker or even to be told when we got there would have been nice. My poor heavily pregnant sister in law was on the verge of tears as she was frustrated for us all as she had told us the original price. That put quite a disappointment on what was a nice time.

Excellent food and service. Loved the children’s meal that arrived complete with fruit and a brownie. Would recommend if you are visiting oddicombe beach or babbacombe model village.

Had a lovely lunch here today. Used a voucher that was a gift. Not at all disappointed. Staff work incredibly hard and so very polite. Will definitely visit again.

Want to thank Babbacome bay cafe for hosting my baby shower yesterday. Me and mum are coeliac so eat gluten free, the rest of our party 'normal' haha... We all had gorgeous high tea yday ...was very well looked after, felt safe and had a really lovely time. The gluten free option was almost identical to the gluten version so we didn't feel like the odd ones out. Thanks everyone 😃 would highly recommend!

Lovely food at the babbacombe bay for lunch today same as previous visits. All staff accommodating and helpful especially having my two young daughters. Highly recommend even just for coffee and cake all delicious. Clean and tidy decor inside to.

We booked a table for Fathers Day brunch on their website and had email confirmation. When we arrived with our elderly parents we were told by the waitress there was no record of it and they did t have our table reserved. There was no apology, she said “this happens a lot with our system it’s really annoying but we can’t seat you” We asked to speak to the manager were told there was no one in charge and in fact that she wouldn’t be spoken to rudely. We weren’t being rude, we were being totally ignored!! Mistakes happen but zero charm, terrible attitude and a very “ tough luck” attitude to us as we stood there with our 80 year old Dad . We won’t be trying to book there again!!!

We booked for four of us for breakfast, we had an extra person and they kindly fitted them in. We had a mixture of cooked fried breakfast and French toasts with berries and yoghurt. All of it was delicious and the staff were really lovely and professional. We live nearby and every time we come here it’s great.

We visited the cafe for coffee, although they were busy the service was fast and super friendly. We got a table outside in the sunshine, but no seagulls bothering us! Lovely cafe and lovely location.

Went for a pre-booked (months ago!) baby shower afternoon tea - 8 of us in total. We were shown to our table and left with menus to have a look. After about 20 minutes a waitress came over to take drinks orders. A further 10+ minutes later a different waitress came over to take our food order. Up until this point we didn't have a problem - here's where it went downhill. We were told that most of the items on the menu weren't available but they could do the afternoon tea. So we all opted for the afternoon tea. Took the hot drinks orders (asked for one to be delayed so as to have it with the tea and this was ignored) and said they'd bring the afternoon teas out one between 2. Waited a further 15 minutes to discover that actually between 8 of us we were getting 2 afternoon teas (and an extra vegan scone due to dietary requirements). So 16 finger sandwiches, 4 scones, 2 tiny tarts, 2 macaroons, 2 bitesize brownies between 7 people. Not once were we told that you didn't have enough food to adequately serve us despite knowing there was a booking for 8 people for afternoon tea. It was only after complaining, that the teas were deducted from the bill. Had we been told earlier that there was basically no food in the establishment we would have gone elsewhere. Absolutely no organisation or planning seems to have been used here. Despite this the food was good and fortunately we're a group that can have a laugh but sorry this wasn't very professional. Edit: Sadly I cannot reply to the response.... The owner didn't reply for 4 days to said email during which time, a call had been placed to book. When we arrived, we gave the booking name and were shown to the table - no mention of there not being a booking. So to say that the girls weren't expecting us was in fact a lie. For a 2.30 booking we didn't eat until almost 4pm. The owner also rang to discuss this and whilst on the phone asked for my number - I can only assume from the tone of this reply that it was to ask me to remove my review which I will not be doing.

Very impressed with service and quality food. I am a Gluten Free customer and can always rely on enjoying a main meal, cake etc, The staff are very friendly, considerate and obliging and cope with various allergies etc.

I have to write this review because this has been by far the best bistro cafe I’ve visited whilst on my family break in Torbay. Not only is the venue, food and service impeccable, the overall experience and views mean I will definitely be visiting again before I leave. I would definitely recommend anyone in this area to pay them a visit as you will not be disappointed. The staff were polite and courteous and nothing was too much trouble, they are a very welcoming establishment.

Our party of 6 adults and 2 children visited on Sunday lunch time. It took one and a half hours from the time we ordered the food till they served 5 of us the other 3 had to wait another fifteen minutes. Two of the burgers were cold all the chips were cold one of the fish was over cooked and the mussels were cool which could have caused a health hazard.we were told they would heat it up for us but as we had already waited so long we couldn’t wait any longer.I did enquire if they had a chef on duty and was assured there was I only gave an extra star because by way of an apology we were not charged for our drinks nor one of the burgers and a portion of mussels

We visited twice during our week-long visit to Babbacombe. The first visit was on a very rainy Sunday afternoon for a scone and coffee. We were shown straight to a table by very friendly staff. The drinks came straight away, there was a little wait for the scone which they apologised for but we didn't mind because of the view. Food and drink was very well presented and very tasty. We then booked a table for breakfast for a couple of days later and would highly recommend the French toast for breakfast. The staff again were really friendly and the weather on this visit was much better, providing even better views of the bay. There is a lovely courtyard outside with plenty of seating to enjoy in the good weather.

In light of online reviews and recommendations we planned our day around Afternoon Tea at Babbacombe Bay Cafe. Noting their website states they are open until 5pm we arrived at 3.25pm to be told the kitchen had closed. Apparently it closes at 3.30pm but it was already closed on this beautiful sunny day. Very disappointing. Perhaps mentioning this fact on the website would be helpful? However the day ended on a high note as we walked a few doors down and had the best ever afternoon tea at The Angel. Please see my review.

Lovely breakfast with the best ingredients you could ask for and I would definitely recommend to anyone. Couldn’t fault the ocean breakfast or the eggs Benedict 🙂

I can't recommend this beautiful cafe highly enough❣️... My sister and I held our dear fathers wake here in January.. We asked if we could have tea/coffee and cake provided as my dad would have loved that... The cakes were divine and the beverages delicious... And the staff were amazing! Even my cousin who owns a coffee business commented what good coffee it was! The owner/manager was so accommodating and went above and beyond.. Even staying open way after they were due to close as the funeral was in the afternoon... Thankyou so much for making a very difficult day so much easier... We are so truly grateful x

The menu choice is amazing and caters for gluten free and vegan which is a plus. The food we had was very good. The only thing I would say is the service was slow and could be quicker. This would not stop me returning.

I love to eat at Babbacombe Bay, they cater for gluten free, meals, cakes etc. the fish of the day today was Hake, beautifully moist, cooked in lovely batter, a perfect place to meet up ,

Back in the middle of January, I enquired as to whether they were doing a special valentines afternoon tea, and was assured they were, so booked it, without going into why I needed it, I wanted it to be a special afternoon tea this year…had I been told that what I was assured, wouldn’t be, then I would of booked somewhere else. The food was ok tbf, but valentines special afternoon tea it wasn’t.. The excuse given, was that they ran out of time to plan one,and had a chef down, a courtesy message or call would of been appreciated on this occasion..

After posting an excellent review on our last visit I have to change it. The quality of the breakfast has really gone down hill at best 6/10 and over priced for that quality. Should of gone to the babbacombe inn instead. Don't know what has changed but not for the best. Took ages to come out and we was there just after 9am hardly any one inside, to give that quality out and it took so long to prepare is very poor. The blonde girls from the first moment didn't seem very welcoming . Last time we came the staff were perfect but this time there seemed to be a bit of a bad atmosphere .

Great place for food right on Babbacombe Downs great for breakfast. Coffee was excellent

First time visit to this lovely Cafe located on Babbacombe Downs with great views over Lyme Bay towards Exmouth. We enquired for a party of 16 following a family celebration and they were happy to accept and on the day seated us on a long table. The breakfast menu finishes at 11.45 so we had selections from the lunch menu. Service was very friendly and efficient although the cafe was busy and the food and drinks took a while to arrive however it was of good quality and value for money. It's a good place to relax on sofas as well set away in the corner. The restrooms were nice and clean and kids were welcomed. Outdoor seating is available. Would recommend even though prices were a tad expensive.

Normally have just coffee, but today took daughter and granddaughter..she is 7. She had the children’s meal. So much salt on the plate l had to scrape it off. So bad. Chicken goujons so spicy for a child. Daughter’s posh cheese on toast sickly and greasy but not so much salt on the chips as the child's portion. My brownie bland and over sweet. Coffee good but won’t eat there again.

One of the best cafes in Torbay and lucky to get a table inside in January on a Sunday. I usually eat a cooked breakfast but tried the eggs royale with flat white, then a nice chai latte, just right. The smashed avocado was also very nice. Good service, great location overlooking the sea and lovely food and coffee.

Such a warm and friendly atmosphere. Proper loose leaf tea, served with a smile. Very popular establishment, go and you will see why.

Would be nice if they were actually open when they advertise to be open til 5.00pm. Twice we have been in the last 7 days, once at 3.30 and once at 2.45pm. Closed both times. Very bad service and we will not try again

Waited half an hour for my ham sandwich, waitress came back only to inform me 'we are out of ham....30 minutes later.

My husband and I and our huge 8 month old puppy found this place by a stroke of sheer good luck on Christmas Eve. We were made to feel so welcome by all of the staff and the cream tea and cakes were amazing that we decided to go back for lunch with our friends on Boxing Day. Once again, nothing was too much trouble for the lovely staff - not everyone welcomes a huge puppy - but we were welcomed with open arms. The food was fantastic, the atmosphere was welcoming and fun and all of the lovely girls who work there were a delight. We plan to come back to Babbacome soon anyway but even if we weren't I think this place is worth the 3 hour drive just on its own. Thank you so much and we wish you all a Very Happy New Year. xx

What a find! Our friends had discovered this cafe on Christmas Eve and raved about their cream tea. So we all went for a Boxing Day lunch Two of us had a huge bowl of ‘Festive Fries’. Perfectly cooked fries with chopped up pigs in blankets and cranberry sauce. Delicious. My husband had the biggest ploughman’s I have ever seen! Even he could not manage it all but, no problem, a doggy box was produced and we brought it home. The last meal was squid. Cooked to perfection and a very large potion. The staff were delightful, friendly and efficient. And happy to produce a bowl of water for our very large canine companion. Forget all the other eating places in Babbacombe, this is the one you MUST go to

An excellent little cafe with good food at reasonable prices. I have been here several times and it is my favourite cafe on Babbacombe Downs.

Stumbled across this gem when having a walk in Babbacombe after a trip to the model village. Beautiful cafe, really friendly staff and tasty food (they do amazing cheesy chips, milkshakes and cream teas) we will make sure we come again when visiting nearby again!

Visited a week ago today to enjoy the advertised ScreamTea with family . Babbacombe Bay Cafe, you most certainly have got this “right” … The food was delicious and service with a smile was enjoyed . The staff are friendly and very professional. Our pet dog even got to enjoy a puppy-chino ! Happy Days & highly recommend.

What a start to our Wedding Anniversary ! This little gem is set in a perfect location with a beautiful sea view . We opted to sit inside due to the fact that Storm Babet was on her way … This didn’t dampen our spirits or the spirts of the staff who were happy & smiling . The service is second to none and the premises is perfectly clean and tidy . What about the food ??? Absolutely scrumptious! Food was delicious , well presented & well worth the money !

We booked a table for 10 of us and they made the table big enough for us all to sit together. Their was no hassle just great staff welcoming us as we all arrived nothing was too much trouble all our breakfast arrived at the same time. When the food was out of this world so nice. We go here once a year on our way down to Torquay. We would all like to say a Big thank you to All of the staff. ( If your that way try it and see. ) 👍

Superb cafe on the sea front. We had a late lunch. The bay burger and ocean breakfast, both were amazing. The home made onion rings were lovely and the chips were stunning. The food is all sourced local and had a good gluten free choice too. The staff were lovely, very friendly and welcoming. Dogs are allowed and are given their own treats. Decor in cafe was beautiful with fresh roses on every table. Very worth the cost of £38 for the 2 substantial meals and 2 capacuinos.

Had breakfast here on the morning of departure. It was the best breakfast I’ve had this year!!! Perfectly cooked, quality ingredients, superbly presented and reasonably priced. I cannot recommend it enough. Excellent.

I use to love this place and I still do. My partner and I love to go here to have our breakfast or brunch during the weekend. I love food so I am looking for places like this: attention to details, everything is made up to perfection and the staff are always polite and gentle. You can really have a relaxing breakfast here ( if it is not that busy). The only thing that has changed recently is the price of the coffee. It is now £5 for me that I am asking for an oat latte ( for dietary requirements). This place has become pricey. I will still go but not with the same frequency I used to go. I highly recommend . 😊

Just looking for a tasty brunch and a sea view vibe and we found it!…just as the lovely owner said… a little slice of paradise!🏝️🌊🌊🍦 A fab location right on the beach, great coffee, great friendly service, tasty brunch and bacon cooked just how I like it. AND rosemary salted chips!! What more could you ask for except perhaps an ice cream which we had!!🫣🍦💕 great little find, we hope to return again, you deserve to do well!🙏👌😍

LOVE this little gem! The food is delicious and the recently changed menus offer so much choice for everyone. The maple and sesame halloumi is out of this world - the coffee is tasty and freshly made properly rather than by pushing a button on a machine and a delicious selection of cakes are available to enjoy too. Highly recommend.

Delicious French toast with berries and yoghurt. I wish I knew what yoghurt they use as it was so good. A quick pit stop to help socialise my young dog after a walk along the coastal path. The staff were really gentle and understanding with the dog and brought her some little dog biscuits when I explained she is sometimes a bit nervous of people. Very friendly and efficient service. The view out to sea is very relaxing while you are eating.

Such friendly and welcoming staff, this also included the dog. We had breakfast very yum and they even provided a sausage for the dog. Will definitely go back.

I can’t thank these guys enough for helping us with a buffet for my daughters 21st birthday party last minute when our caterers let us down. The food was amazing. You guys are amazing and saved the night, thank you again!

Had a pizza there and unfortunatellly it tasted like one from a coop store. Not worth the price we paid. The rest of order was OK.

Lovely welcoming and friendly café. Very inclusive for Neurodiverse peeps. The staff are absolutely remarkable. In particular Kaitlyn, Tracey, Mea, Summer and the kitchen magicians too, do their best to support you and make you feel at ease. We had lunch here yesterday and breakfast today and on both times it was a treat 😊. Thank you 🙏🏻. We shall definitely come again 🤩.

Lovely café, really lovely,friendly, welcoming staff. Had lunch with my Mum. We shared salt and pepper squid and the vegetarian meze board with a roasted garlic flat bread as a side. Everything was so so good, lovely portions, all very fresh. Couldn't fault anything. Only...

Popped in for the first time in a while, new menu which we struggled to make a choice as nearly everything apealed to us, eventually went for catch of the day but grilled, with a lovely salad and baby potatoes, unbelievably good and not expensive. We will definitely be returning and also can't wait to try the breakfast choices either, the usual lovely English versions, but also granola and yoghurt, pancakes and fruit etc. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed. And apparently they are soon to open on Torquay front as well in the old On The Rocks premises, can't wait to try, thanks to all!
