The Babbacombe Bay Cafe in Torbay

I can't recommend this beautiful cafe highly enough❣️... My sister and I held our dear fathers wake here in January.. We asked if we could have tea/coffee and cake provided as my dad would have loved that... The cakes were divine and the beverages delicious... And the staff were amazing! Even my cousin who owns a coffee business commented what good coffee it was! The owner/manager was so accommodating and went above and beyond.. Even staying open way after they were due to close as the funeral was in the afternoon... Thankyou so much for making a very difficult day so much easier... We are so truly grateful x

Back in the middle of January, I enquired as to whether they were doing a special valentines afternoon tea, and was assured they were, so booked it, without going into why I needed it, I wanted it to be a special afternoon tea this year…had I been told that what I was assured, wouldn’t be, then I would of booked somewhere else. The food was ok tbf, but valentines special afternoon tea it wasn’t.. The excuse given, was that they ran out of time to plan one,and had a chef down, a courtesy message or call would of been appreciated on this occasion..

After posting an excellent review on our last visit I have to change it. The quality of the breakfast has really gone down hill at best 6/10 and over priced for that quality. Should of gone to the babbacombe inn instead. Don't know what has changed but not for the best. Took ages to come out and we was there just after 9am hardly any one inside, to give that quality out and it took so long to prepare is very poor. The blonde girls from the first moment didn't seem very welcoming . Last time we came the staff were perfect but this time there seemed to be a bit of a bad atmosphere .

Great place for food right on Babbacombe Downs great for breakfast. Coffee was excellent

First time visit to this lovely Cafe located on Babbacombe Downs with great views over Lyme Bay towards Exmouth. We enquired for a party of 16 following a family celebration and they were happy to accept and on the day seated us on a long table. The breakfast menu finishes at 11.45 so we had selections from the lunch menu. Service was very friendly and efficient although the cafe was busy and the food and drinks took a while to arrive however it was of good quality and value for money. It's a good place to relax on sofas as well set away in the corner. The restrooms were nice and clean and kids were welcomed. Outdoor seating is available. Would recommend even though prices were a tad expensive.

Normally have just coffee, but today took daughter and granddaughter..she is 7. She had the children’s meal. So much salt on the plate l had to scrape it off. So bad. Chicken goujons so spicy for a child. Daughter’s posh cheese on toast sickly and greasy but not so much salt on the chips as the child's portion. My brownie bland and over sweet. Coffee good but won’t eat there again.

One of the best cafes in Torbay and lucky to get a table inside in January on a Sunday. I usually eat a cooked breakfast but tried the eggs royale with flat white, then a nice chai latte, just right. The smashed avocado was also very nice. Good service, great location overlooking the sea and lovely food and coffee.

Such a warm and friendly atmosphere. Proper loose leaf tea, served with a smile. Very popular establishment, go and you will see why.

Would be nice if they were actually open when they advertise to be open til 5.00pm. Twice we have been in the last 7 days, once at 3.30 and once at 2.45pm. Closed both times. Very bad service and we will not try again

Waited half an hour for my ham sandwich, waitress came back only to inform me 'we are out of ham....30 minutes later.

My husband and I and our huge 8 month old puppy found this place by a stroke of sheer good luck on Christmas Eve. We were made to feel so welcome by all of the staff and the cream tea and cakes were amazing that we decided to go back for lunch with our friends on Boxing Day. Once again, nothing was too much trouble for the lovely staff - not everyone welcomes a huge puppy - but we were welcomed with open arms. The food was fantastic, the atmosphere was welcoming and fun and all of the lovely girls who work there were a delight. We plan to come back to Babbacome soon anyway but even if we weren't I think this place is worth the 3 hour drive just on its own. Thank you so much and we wish you all a Very Happy New Year. xx

An excellent little cafe with good food at reasonable prices. I have been here several times and it is my favourite cafe on Babbacombe Downs.

What a find! Our friends had discovered this cafe on Christmas Eve and raved about their cream tea. So we all went for a Boxing Day lunch Two of us had a huge bowl of ‘Festive Fries’. Perfectly cooked fries with chopped up pigs in blankets and cranberry sauce. Delicious. My husband had the biggest ploughman’s I have ever seen! Even he could not manage it all but, no problem, a doggy box was produced and we brought it home. The last meal was squid. Cooked to perfection and a very large potion. The staff were delightful, friendly and efficient. And happy to produce a bowl of water for our very large canine companion. Forget all the other eating places in Babbacombe, this is the one you MUST go to

Arrived just after 4 for a cream tea - well how accommodating the lovely friendly staff were considering we were outside the usual serving time !! Scones and cream provided in a lovely setting - well worth a visit folks 👍

Stumbled across this gem when having a walk in Babbacombe after a trip to the model village. Beautiful cafe, really friendly staff and tasty food (they do amazing cheesy chips, milkshakes and cream teas) we will make sure we come again when visiting nearby again!

Visited a week ago today to enjoy the advertised ScreamTea with family . Babbacombe Bay Cafe, you most certainly have got this “right” … The food was delicious and service with a smile was enjoyed . The staff are friendly and very professional. Our pet dog even got to enjoy a puppy-chino ! Happy Days & highly recommend.

What a start to our Wedding Anniversary ! This little gem is set in a perfect location with a beautiful sea view . We opted to sit inside due to the fact that Storm Babet was on her way … This didn’t dampen our spirits or the spirts of the staff who were happy & smiling . The service is second to none and the premises is perfectly clean and tidy . What about the food ??? Absolutely scrumptious! Food was delicious , well presented & well worth the money !

We booked a table for 10 of us and they made the table big enough for us all to sit together. Their was no hassle just great staff welcoming us as we all arrived nothing was too much trouble all our breakfast arrived at the same time. When the food was out of this world so nice. We go here once a year on our way down to Torquay. We would all like to say a Big thank you to All of the staff. ( If your that way try it and see. ) 👍

Superb cafe on the sea front. We had a late lunch. The bay burger and ocean breakfast, both were amazing. The home made onion rings were lovely and the chips were stunning. The food is all sourced local and had a good gluten free choice too. The staff were lovely, very friendly and welcoming. Dogs are allowed and are given their own treats. Decor in cafe was beautiful with fresh roses on every table. Very worth the cost of £38 for the 2 substantial meals and 2 capacuinos.

Had breakfast here on the morning of departure. It was the best breakfast I’ve had this year!!! Perfectly cooked, quality ingredients, superbly presented and reasonably priced. I cannot recommend it enough. Excellent.

I use to love this place and I still do. My partner and I love to go here to have our breakfast or brunch during the weekend. I love food so I am looking for places like this: attention to details, everything is made up to perfection and the staff are always polite and gentle. You can really have a relaxing breakfast here ( if it is not that busy). The only thing that has changed recently is the price of the coffee. It is now £5 for me that I am asking for an oat latte ( for dietary requirements). This place has become pricey. I will still go but not with the same frequency I used to go. I highly recommend . 😊

Just looking for a tasty brunch and a sea view vibe and we found it!…just as the lovely owner said… a little slice of paradise!🏝️🌊🌊🍦 A fab location right on the beach, great coffee, great friendly service, tasty brunch and bacon cooked just how I like it. AND rosemary salted chips!! What more could you ask for except perhaps an ice cream which we had!!🫣🍦💕 great little find, we hope to return again, you deserve to do well!🙏👌😍

LOVE this little gem! The food is delicious and the recently changed menus offer so much choice for everyone. The maple and sesame halloumi is out of this world - the coffee is tasty and freshly made properly rather than by pushing a button on a machine and a delicious selection of cakes are available to enjoy too. Highly recommend.

Delicious French toast with berries and yoghurt. I wish I knew what yoghurt they use as it was so good. A quick pit stop to help socialise my young dog after a walk along the coastal path. The staff were really gentle and understanding with the dog and brought her some little dog biscuits when I explained she is sometimes a bit nervous of people. Very friendly and efficient service. The view out to sea is very relaxing while you are eating.

Such friendly and welcoming staff, this also included the dog. We had breakfast very yum and they even provided a sausage for the dog. Will definitely go back.

I can’t thank these guys enough for helping us with a buffet for my daughters 21st birthday party last minute when our caterers let us down. The food was amazing. You guys are amazing and saved the night, thank you again!

Just popped in for a coffee which was lovely. Lots of gluten free options available on the menu from sandwiches to fish and chips.

Had a pizza there and unfortunatellly it tasted like one from a coop store. Not worth the price we paid. The rest of order was OK.

Lovely welcoming and friendly café. Very inclusive for Neurodiverse peeps. The staff are absolutely remarkable. In particular Kaitlyn, Tracey, Mea, Summer and the kitchen magicians too, do their best to support you and make you feel at ease. We had lunch here yesterday and breakfast today and on both times it was a treat 😊. Thank you 🙏🏻. We shall definitely come again 🤩.

Lovely café, really lovely,friendly, welcoming staff. Had lunch with my Mum. We shared salt and pepper squid and the vegetarian meze board with a roasted garlic flat bread as a side. Everything was so so good, lovely portions, all very fresh. Couldn't fault anything. Only...

Popped in for the first time in a while, new menu which we struggled to make a choice as nearly everything apealed to us, eventually went for catch of the day but grilled, with a lovely salad and baby potatoes, unbelievably good and not expensive. We will definitely be returning and also can't wait to try the breakfast choices either, the usual lovely English versions, but also granola and yoghurt, pancakes and fruit etc. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed. And apparently they are soon to open on Torquay front as well in the old On The Rocks premises, can't wait to try, thanks to all!

We used the cafe today for my mums wake as Babbacombe was one of her favourite places. The food was amazing and staff are all lovely and attentive. Would highly recommend for a special occasion or just a meal or drink.

I've been here often and couldn't find any fault HOWEVER, I'm not sure if its changed hands recently but the other day was awful. Such a long wait for sandwiches, didn't look like anyone knew what they were doing....3 out of 5 plates were wrong...

Sorry for the one star but I felt that the chef should have been able to provide a simple omelet this morning when visiting with some friends. I understand it's not on the menu but it was 09:10 with only one other table occupied! Maybe the menu could do with updating or a few more options for the local people. I had a cup of tea instead and probably won't use this as my future meetings place which I did throughout the year. Aside from this incident the food is normally great and the staff are very friendly all in a great location.

So I have been here a couple of times before and everything has been amazing. But this time the service was really poor. It took 50 minutes to receive our breakfasts with no warning of how long it could take! Part of my breakfast was missing which was compensated with two latte coffees, but this really wasn’t the issue, it was the wait. The food was lovely and as always the setting and place are too. But the service really needs to be improved to charge top dollar, as it really peed me off and ruined the experience.

Have been wanting to visit here for a long time and it didn't disappoint. We had a Ploughman's which consisted of a mini brie and caramelised onion tart, thick cut ham, cheese, sausage roll, salad, coleslaw, onion marmalade, piccalilli and ciabatta bread, all very nice.

Yesterday we had afternoon/high tea at the BBC about 14 adults and 4 kids after a christening at Torquay's oldest church St.Andrews. We were well looked after and the food superb as well as the service provided. So a big thankyou from everyone in our party. (Btw we had pre booked).

We had a family gathering in Babacombe Bay Cafe. The food was really good quality, and the staff was very polite and helpful. They also have children menu at reasonable prices. The cafe has great see views of the Babacombe beach. Over all highly recommended.

We came to the Babbacome Bay Cafe for breakfast originally and then booked in for lunch before we had even finished our breakfast. Both breakfast and lunch were absolutely gorgeous, came out promptly and the staff were lovely. Food was so fresh and perfectly cooked....

Thoroughly recommend. Arrived with no booking but I would definitely book ahead of time for future as it was constantly busy. Staff were all welcoming and attentive. Good choice on menu. Individual cakes looked amazing but resisted this time. We'll be back again soon.

Food was really nice with reasonable prices. Only downside was the staff were more interested in chatting among themselves and it did take a little longer than it should have to get served, bill and pay etc. But apart from this is was OK.

It was a wonderful experience at the babacombe bay cafe I ordered a latte as I’ve been to most cafes in Torbay this one stands out from the rest it has a good vibe and the barista summer made a good latte that certainly stands on top of the rest will definitely be back again

Booked in advance we were a large party coming on a bank holiday. The staff were lovely and accommodating of requests. I had the Eggs Benedict and it was the best I've ever had. The entire cafe was immaculate and clean. Toilets were nice and clean too. It's a shame we were just here for a weekend getaway otherwise I'd come more often. I'll be back if I'm in the area.

Went for breakfast lovely food and service definitely worth a visit

What should have been a wonderful afternoon tea for an 80th birthday, was sadly a little disappointing. Table booked for 2.30 and took 45 mins to serve our preordered afternoon tea. The scones and quiche were overcooked and dry. The sandwiches were lovely. Thankfully we had a lovely family catch up in spite of this.

Couldn’t recommend more, can’t wait to go back. All the servers were lovely and Victoria was a delight, couldn’t have been sweeter or more attentive. Had the cheese scone and the fruit scone they were probably the best we’ve ever had!! So good.

Lovely place everything you could want in a café/restaurant, peaceful views, beautiful modern and cosy décor and ambiance was top notch, great selection on the menu good prices as well for the quality, homemade cakes are divine too, go you won't be disappointed.
