We visited mid week and enjoyed our food, fish and chips and the burger did not disappoint. We also enjoyed the apple strudel which was delicious. The staff were very friendly and the service was excellent, as we have always found at the Grumpy Mole pubs.

Below average experience. The prices and the ambience suggest a coveted culinary experience...the food was however pretty poor. Artisan bread - 4 measly slices of baguette. Garlic bread = one side demi baguette - ordered cheesy garlic bread but got plain. Service was poor - son ordered chips and garlic bread but they only arrived as rest were finishing theirs. the main reason got 2 stars was my roast was cold. Gravy, Yorkshire and meat were stone cold. Rescued somewhat by fine roast potatoes but I expected more for the price paid. Might be victim of own success and overstretched.

Booked a table for 8 for dinner, was given 2 round tables at the back of the restaurant, these tables are not suitable for this number, I had to sit with my back to the person next to me, eating my dinner was difficult as you are literally on the rounded side of the table with your back to the next person, we felt like the table had been thrown together and not utilised in the right way, 2 square tables yes, but not 2 round, we have all eaten together here before and have been in a long table, it made the evening unsociable, it just does not work, Please think about this when planning tables!!! The restaurant was full so nowhere to move to, the food was ok and the staff very good, just very bad planning in the restaurants part, pretty sure we will choose somewhere else for our next famil get together!

We found the service and food quite mediocre. It has never been a very good venue as there is no proper bar area, parking is quite limited and right beside a busy road. A shame as we live quite close. The sister pubs are much better in our opinion.

My friend and I have been meeting here every monthly for the last 2-3 years. Always loved it. Today we were very disappointed at the reduced choice on the lunch menu. Their sandwiches, always so delicious, have been reduced to a choice of just three fillings. Other lunch choices were also less then usual. But prices increased. I cannot comment on the main menu, as we were only lunching. Staff, as always, very friendly and efficient.

Meeting with colleagues over lunch , convenient as it has a parking so everybody could drive there easily , Went on a tuesday and it was pretty empty so found a nice spot to have a meeting. Had the fillet of salmon which was cooked perfect and colleagues had combination of salads and soup which they all enjoyed . Great venue for lunch with parking .

Lovely Saturday lunch with friends, parking wasn’t an issue as we had a table booked for 1.30 so there were plenty of spaces. We were able to pick an outside table, we shared starters, all had different mains and also desserts. Service was spot on, our food came quickly and was served hot just how we like it, not a thing was left on our plates so that speaks volumes. Absolutely no complaints, we felt it was all great quality and very tasty. It did start to get busier as the time went on, however we all agreed we will certainly come back, as we all left feeling satisfied, full to the brim & ready for an afternoon nap! Signs of a great afternoon in the sunshine! It didn’t disappoint, give it a try!

The food and service is as great as ever, menu still seems to have all the old favourites and to top it all the jew outside space is amazing! So well done, big canopy with floor standing heaters and twinkling fairy lights, plus some booths with wall mounted heaters. I turned up with a massive coat & blanket as I really fed the cold and didn’t need my coat at all. It felt like being on holiday with all the lights in the dark. Breathtaking. So good I’m going back tonight.

I love the grumpy mole, I've visited the epsom branch multiple times however after my experience I will NEVER visit the Cheam branch again. The service was extremely slow despite only having four outdoor tables seated and being two waitress outside!! It took the waitress 10 minutes to give us cutlery after our food was on the table we didn't even bother to ask about salt and pepper. The starter of potato skins was nice despite waiting 10 minutes to eat but my main of seabass was tasteless even after adding salt and pepper and I personally could not eat it also due to the mushed texture. The dessert was amazing however as it always is. We had the clotted cream cheesecake and brownie and I would definitely recommend both. Even leaving took another 15 to get the bill and another 15 for them to come over. I noticed the seabass still on the bill (nearly £18) but didn't want to wait anymore time.I am never coming back here

This was our first visit and a shame just as lockdown begins for the 2nd time. The restaurant is lovely and welcoming in its decor and how it is set out even in these times. Tables were secluded so no issues with being too near the next table. Felt very safe. The staff were very friendly and helpful though bearing in mind all the social distancing etc. Hand sanitiser available for all to use. The meal was a delight and the rib eye steak was cooked to perfection! Each dish was enjoyed without fault from the starters to the desserts. Home made chicken parfait, meringues and the date and ginger sticky pudding all a delight. Very enjoyable and will definitely be back after lockdown!

Food and menu uninspired and uninspiring. Nothing tasted like it was freshly made in house; tasted like commercial items assembled in kitchen. I booked a table for 2 for 7 pm and on arrival shown to a table that must be the in the worst location in this establishment. It adjoined the main walkway we felt the floor was moving due to the constant traffic . BEWARE DO NOT BOOK THIS TABLE NUMBER 32.We requested if possible to move as there were only 4 other customers seated, but were informed all were booked although an adjoining table could become available due to a no show. The waiter appeared attentive and we ordered our meal, starters arrived within 5mins and as soon as we finished the main course arrived. all within 20minutes, no breathing space between courses and the "vacant no show table was still vacant in fact it stayed vacant till we left. This whole rushed experience took just under 60 mins. The waiter made no effort to relocate. Overall the food was good but expensive when you take into account the poor seating and very rushed service. Try the Grumpy Mole in Epsom which is far better .

For the mains, my partner had steak and kidney pie, which looked and smelled fantastic (with creamy mash and mixed veg). I had the fish pie, which was piping hot and simply delicious (with mixed veg). We were so full, we couldn't manage a dessert, which is a pity as they looked great. The staff were very attentive and the waiter we had explained the menu carefully. We were glad that we hadn’t chosen a starter as the mains were substantial, My husband enjoyed the steak and kidney pudding and my son and I both had the Sunday roast. The vegetables were served in separate dishes. All was well cooked and tasty. We also enjoyed a bottle of Grumpy mole merlot which went down very well! Having looked at the dessert menu we couldn’t resist. The brownie and ice cream can be recommended. We will certainly be returning to this restaurant and cannot believe that it has taken us so long to try it out.

Being great Grumpy Mole fans, this first visit to the Cheam 'branch' was disappointing. Whilst the food was generally good, apart from the lamb being a little tough and the stroganoff being ordinary yet expensive, the service was way short of what was expected.

Following a very enjoyable family lunch at Easter, we returned for our anniversary, excellant service again and a warm welcome on arrival. All food was again well presented with a wide choice on the menu and a few specials on the day, with a excellant bottle of rose champagne to mark the occasion, we will back.and very enjoyable 2 hours lunch for two with the right attention.

We celebrated my sister's 50th birthday as a party of 14 today. Everything was excellent - the food and presentation, huge choice on the menu, beautifully decorated room and really helpful, friendly, efficient and welcoming staff. We'll definitely go back and highly recommend this restaurant.

I went with my girlfriend to the Grumpy Mole in Sutton (Cheam) for the first time last night and I honestly can't wait to go back. As soon as we walked through the door, we were made to feel extremely welcome. The restaurant is beautifully decorated, with a warm, relaxed and very friendly atmosphere. We were very lucky, as the person who looked after us for the evening (Dimos) was superb. Charming, attentive (not overly so), extremely polite and professional at all times, he put us at ease immediately and made us feel very welcome. He was also very knowledgeable about the entire menu (every question we asked about the food/personal recommendations, he answered fully without hesitation). The food came very promptly and was delicious. I'm a (very) fussy eater, but everything on my plate was cooked perfectly. This is without doubt one of the best places I've been to in a long time. I really can't fault it. The woman (unfortunately I didn't get her name) who also was working was absolutely lovely. She was very friendly, polite, easy to talk to and, like Dimos, made us feel very welcome. Thank you Dimos for looking after us so well last night. We're very grateful. We really can't wait to go back!

We ordered goats cheese and spinach tart and calamari for starters; fish and chips, vegetarian Wellington, steak with peppercorn sauce and teriyaki salmon with stir fry vegetables for mains for four persons. The food was exemplary and one of the best pub/restaurant we’ve eaten at. Portion size was perfect. Dogs are allowed on the clean, spacious terrace. There were even a number of dog water bowls placed neatly on the terrace, which was a very nice touch. The staff were very attentive and friendly. We will definitely return for another dinner.

Four of us popped in for lunch last Saturday and were very pleased that we did. We were made to feel very welcome by the staff and the pleasant atmosphere. The menu was very large and we had a non-dairy person with us that was very well catered for. Mains were very good as were the deserts. The only downside, although it would not stop us going again, was that we thought it a bit overpriced. But all in all a very pleasant lunch.

Haven't been to the Robin for a while but really glad we stopped off for a quick lunch the other day. My partner had the tomato and basil soup, which she loved (I had a taste and loved it too). I had the steak sandwich and chips, which I also really enjoyed. The steak was very tender and cooked exactly how I asked. Also, when we left, I left a package on the table (a Xmas present!!) and we didn't realise until a few hours later. Someone kindly handed it in when they sat at the same table and I picked it up earlier today. Phew! Service was also top notch and we found out that there's more to do, like open mike nights, etc, than before, so will be heading there more and more from now on. Highly recommend the Robin.

I recently visited The Red Lion and loved their cosy atmosphere, especially the fireplace corner that's perfect for colder evenings. I've added it to my barguide.london site too!

A convenient Costa on the west side of Central Road (the other chains Caffe Nero and Starbucks are on the other quieter east side). Quick service, but they had run out of cake at lunch time today, so only had various slices and muffins left.

Honestly, it’s stunk so bad we had to leave our drink there. The locals had fell over in the front lying on the footpath as they were so drunk.
