Very welcoming pub, we had trouble finding where to park but met some of the neighbours outside and they were incredibly helpful and friendly, then we walked in many of the locals said hello. The food was lovely, really tasty, you could tell that they use good local produce and it was all home made. And Jack who served us was also lovely. We took our dog who was given biscuits and also made to feel welcome. A real country pub with a lovely friendly atmosphere.

We stayed in a cottage down the lane and this pub was recommended in the guest book, so we booked a table as advised. It was well worth it as the hosts were very friendly, the atmosphere buzzing, the ales quenching and the food delicious! There's lots of history about the inn shown on the walls too, so it was interesting. We obviously chose very well because Robert and Deborah won the North Devon CAMRA, Pub of the Year 2024 Award and are also joint winners of the Cider Pub of the Year 2024 Award too! Congratulations. We were lucky enough to dine there twice and were also served by their lads, Charlie and Jack as well as their other welcoming staff. Loved it, thank you.

Went for a last minute dinner on Friday evening. We didn’t have a booking but Robert and his team were super accommodating and able to find us a table last minute. Really kind and appreciated. Dined with our teenagers and toddler; ordered mains as we were on a bit of a quick turnaround with nighttime routine! Jack our server was lovely. Great at recommending dishes and very efficient with his service. Highlight of the dishes was 100% the doner kebab scotch egg! Egg was runny and it was so delicious - going to have to try and replicate. Curry special was spicy and certainly memorable. Sausage and mash tasty / burger was also very good. Thanks for a lovely evening. We look forward to visiting next time we are in the area (and will be much more organised and book!)

We requested a table last minute, and were offered a table in 30 mins, fantastic! We arrived, and the atmosphere was great, not too loud, not too quiet, and the place was nicely filled with a mix of locals and visitors, always a good sign. We were seated in a delightful cosy spot, the table was clean, not crowded, and the cutlery was sparkling too!! Jack, our efficient and friendly waiter was attentive and knowledgeable, as you would expect from a son of the Landlord. The food we ordered came quickly, was hot, and was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS. We had a legendary Greek Style Scotch Egg starter, definitely a one of a kind delight, and the chicken liver pate was just oh so tasty! Mains were Beef Wellington, succulent, juicy, and cooked to perfection, with exceptional Dauphinoise Potatoes. Secondly, Chicken Breast stuffed with some yummy local flavours and crisp fresh vegetables. Pudding, Salted Treacle Tart, to share, as no space left for a desert each.. So, if you are in the area, and can get a table, do yourself a favour and get stuck in, you won't be disappointed!

Robert and his team were friendly. Squeezing us in with little notice, but without us feeling rushed. I love scotch eggs, but we opted not to have a starter. With the generous portions for the mains, probably a good choice. (We will return for the egg soon!) We all agreed our food was tasty. We also enjoyed the deserts. Thank you

Pub landlord Robert made us feel very welcome, to this off the beaten track pub ,along with the friendly locals , to the knowledgeable & quietly confident young man taking orders and bringing out the delicious food ( cooked by Deborah , I presume ) Not so much passing traffic to grab in this remote Devon village- so opening time needs to be kept an eye on… but we coped with that, a shame no garden or more bench space outside… had it been a more warmer June, there may have been a struggle for outside seats. Nonetheless, inside the pub was comfortable & good atmosphere

I found this pub through Facebook and as we were staying in the next village thought we'd give it a try. It didn't disappoint. It's a quaint small village pub but with a big community feel. The landlord was very welcoming and very friendly. He had put out birthday bunting for my husband, which was a really lovely touch. The food was amazing! The scotch egg starter is a must, proper tasty! The cider was a good shout too. The meal was so nice and it made a nice ending to our stay. Would definitely recommend and hopefully one day return.

We were in the area and popped in to The Grove Inn for lunch. The landlord was very friendly and accommodating - kept the kitchen open for us - and went through all his ciders with me, letting me taste each one until I settled on my favourite. The food was excellent. There was an amazing choice, for a cosy, village pub. It arrived swiftly to our table in the suntrap outside, was piping hot and delicious. Five stars? I am mistaken. A shower of stars. We will travel miles for steak and kidney pud, featured in the pub's reassuringly short menu. Order in advance for the best pud ever, no crusty edges and full of top quality tender steak. Complemented with lashings of gravy and a side of veg. This is a proper locals' ancient freehouse village pub with recognitions galore. Featured in the Good Pub Guides since at least 1985, Good Beer Guide and recent CAMRA pub of the year, Alastair Sawday pub guide and Unusual pubs by boot, bike and boat. Set deep in the glorious Devon countryside and welcomed by Robert, engaging and friendly. Deborah working her magic in the kitchen. We'd read such great reviews about The Grove when we was last on holiday in South Molton so decided we would pay a visit while we was here this time, so phoned and booked a table for Sunday lunch. It was a lovely old pub, the staff were so friendly and the food was amazing, we'd both ordered roast beef and that was the best we'd tasted for a long time, there was red cabbage among the selection of vegetables which is normally something I don't enjoy but this was so lovely, I asked the young lad who served us what they did with it as I was thinking of trying to recreate the recipe when I got home, he said it was his mum's recipe and sounded like it's a closely guarded secret🙂.Hubby isn't one for puddings but I had the treacle tart...it was to die for!! .We will definitely be coming back for another lovely meal next time we're on holiday in the area

I can't recommend The Grove Inn enough. My partner and I recently had a holiday in Devon and found this pub nearby. Honestly it was one of the highlights of the trip. The pub is cosy and quaint and exactly what we were looking for. Although we didn't meet Deborah, Robert was behind the bar and made us feel so welcome. The waiter was friendly and service was excellent. As for the food, the beef wellington is absolutely incredible. Heaven on a plate, paired with the nicest dauphinoise potatoes I've ever had. We liked it so much we booked another table so we could eat there again before we went home. The second time we went back Robert remembered us, our drinks orders and again was very warm and welcoming. They were genuinely made up that we had chosen to eat there again. This time we got starters- leek and potato soup and the small fries both were really good. My partner decided to try the stuffed chicken breast and I of course stuck to the beef wellington. Once again the food was incredible. I've been dreaming of that wellington ever since. We may actually have to arrange another holiday in Devon purely to come back to the Grove Inn. Thank you so much to the entire team, we would happily drive down from the wirral again to visit. Would recommend to other travellers to book in advance and to definitely definitely visit here!!

The menu is not extensive but the choices are well thought out and a bit different to standard 'pub grub'. Clearly the chef has some imagination and this shows. Despite the quality the prices remain sensible and represent excellent value for money. The staff members we encountered were all very welcoming and friendly, it was just a shame we couldn't see their smiles.

Wow, wow, what a pub!!!! We fortunately were staying next door at The old rectory cottages, and were very lucky to have this pub 300yards from the door! We enjoyed several drinks of a sunny evening sitting outside the pub, the drinks menu was wide and very good value- a pint and large glass of wine costing less than £8 a round. We had prebooked before arriving to eat in on the Saturday and Wednesday evening. We enjoyed the local chumleigh sausages served with delicious mash, onion gravy and onion rings, the stuffed chicken breast, chips and vegetables the amazing local treacle tart served with clotted cream ice cream and a creme caramel. On the Wednesday we treated ourselves to the steaks- wow the best steaks ever tasted- cooked to our choice with perfection. The staff were friendly, attentive and chatty. Fortunately, we found just such a table. Rob was really friendly and helpful. I had a pint of Utopian lager, an Exmoor ale, which was very good and most welcome on such a hot day. My wife had a J2O alternative, produced locally, which was delicious. For the main course, I had the half chicken with the rosemary and red wine sauce and chips. It was delicious and great value at £10. We arrived to a warm welcome on a cold, wet day & thoroughly enjoyed our Sunday roast. The service was excellent & the food was delicious. Our daughter was very happy with the vegetarian options. We would not hesitate to recommend the Grove Inn.

WOW!!!When I got there Robert used my first name and again later, love this touch. The staff throughout were occupied but attentive, very friendly. The building is stunning, full of character and cosy but not cramped. The food was out of this world! I had the stuffed chicken and wow! It came with a selection of veg. I caught site of the fish and chips and steak and ended up working out if i could have another visit before I leave! Everyone was relaxed and the part of the pub was full of people commenting on how good the food is.Pudding, I didn't have a starter as I wanted a pudding but now I wish I'd had a starter and pudding. They do a hot chocolate pudding that takes 20 minutes, I image that is awesome. I went for the white chocolate cheesecake and again, so yummy and plenty in size.Parking was quite hard to find.

The first day of a week’s holiday to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. Weather forecast was dire and with stage 3 of the pandemic unlock still 48 hours away we had little hope of eating out without getting very wet! But the weather cleared and we decided to check out the Grove Inn based on good reviews and to our delight it was open. So friendly and welcoming ; great service; lovely food all using local produce. A great experience and we cannot recommend highly enough. Thank you guys for a memorable visit.

Visited this beautiful pub very recently and had some lovely pub grub at a very reasonable price, we had a beautiful cider that was on tap which I believe was local. 3 very well cooked steaks and a yummy gammon all served from a very nice chap. Would definitely visit again!

A nice meal despite the old weather and enforced outside seating. Sausages were nice but a bit on the small side

We were staying in Kings Nympton and where recommended to try the food at The Grove Inn. WOW we were not disappointed. My wife and I ordered a takeaway as a treat on our first night. Robert arranged delivery to our door as well as recommending a suitable cider to accompany it. Everything was superb and as a result we had takeaways from them delivered to our door each evening. On Sunday we reserved a table outside and had their Sunday Roast, again quality and service were superb. Robert recommended a walk for us to burn off the calories and then I couldn't resit more of their cider, firstly sat outside enjoying the wonderful sunshine before refilling our cider jug to return to our accommodation for a deserved pint or two in the afternoon, Bliss. Thank you Robert for your amazing hospitality and Deborah for the great cooking. When we are in the area we will definitely return. Adrian and Donna

We are staying locally for a few days and booked a takeaway for Saturday night which was made very easy. We were able to have a few drinks outside beforehand and we were very well looked after. I had the king prawn Thai curry which was absolutely delicious and my partner had fish and chips. He’s picky about the batter but really enjoyed his meal. Their desserts were just as delicious. We ended up having two of their scotch eggs today and we can see why they’re talked about! More scrumptious food. The owner was very friendly and so accommodating and the waiter efficient and pleasant. We wish them well and hope to be back.

It was the delicious menu which first caught our eye but on ordering our Valentine's Special take away we have been treated with love from start to finish!! I ordered the meal through Facebook and have kept in touch through messenger - even a polite reminder the day before pick up, which was a nice touch. My husband picked up our meals which were lovingly laid out for collection, all boxed with clear instructions. All socially distanced and professionally managed. But the meal... wow!! The steak was locally sourced and melted in the mouth, the seasoning added an array of flavours making the fish simply heavenly!! Coupled with the potatoes and 'surf' king prawns, we were blown away at the quality of all the food. Finished with two flavoursome puddings, what a treat! A seriously delicious meal, thank you so much Robert and Deborah!! We look forward go ordering from your regular menu again soon. Top marks!

Brilliant! We’ve eaten in the pub previously & thoroughly enjoyed it. 2020 meant we couldn’t eat in, so the wonderful team brought The Grove to us. Delivered to the door, delicious hot food at exceptional prices. The office Christmas lunch was saved! From first contact to after the meal, the team couldn’t have been lovelier or more helpful. Thank you. Once we can, we’ll be back to eat in.

Made a very last minute lunch reservation here after a visit to Quince Honey Farm. The staff, food and service were all superb, especially given the challenging times of COVID. My sons had the kids steak and chips and they were raving about how lovely it was! The Thai curry was delicious and my hubby’s fish and chips were very tasty as well. Can highly recommend the treacle tart with clotted cream for dessert too . Little touches like giving the kids a pack of chewitts at the end, was very thoughtful. Will be back again for sure and highly recommend.

Booked late for dinner and they couldn’t have been more accommodating in making safe space for us and our two dogs. Beautiful traditional pub it felt exactly they way you would expect from a Devonshire village inn. Food was delicious and the welcome was warm and genuine. Good social distancing and cleaning policies in place. Thank you, lovely evening.

After a week of eating out during a north Devon holiday we finished with lunch at the Grove. Not only was this the safest venue we visited from a Covid perspective, the quality of the food and overall hospitality was comfortably the best. A relaxed, unhurried meal with great local beer and excellent service. Thoroughly recommended, we'll be back again in the spring!

A quintessential Devon thatched pub in a quiet village. Real ale and gorgeous food. Consistent. Their takeaway menu of Indian and Thai meals are up there with the best. Or eat-in their fish and chips and the beef wellington are the go to for me every time. Worth a deviation off the A361 in north Devon.

We come here regularly. It is always a positive experience and Robert and Deborah go out of their way to provide imaginative food and drinks.During lockdown they came up with clever ways of keeping going with take awayfish and chips, beers, ciders, fantastic curries. Impeccable hygiene precautions. Now you can eat inside again with strictly controlled distancing and cleaning as well as outside and take aways. We really appreciate their dedication, as going out for a weekly change of scene and meal is one of life's pleasures!

We were recommended to The Grove Inn and we were not disappointed. Friendly welcome and tables socially distanced. All visitors requested to wear masks when moving about and not at their tables. Our menu was cleaned before presentation. We were not rushed, we were presented with our wines (good choice and knowledgeable). We then selected. I had the Scotch egg (that days choice home made chorizo later visitors were offered pork and apple as the chorizo had run out). my wife had tiger prawns which were beautifully prepared and easy to eat. Both of us very happy with our choices. My wife would have liked the suet pudding however this required pre booking (so ring in advance!) so had hake with mash which was lovely. I had a mini beef wellington which was very tasty. All finished off with a good quality coffee. A really good meal.

Stayed in nearby South Molton and searched for a restaurant that served midweek meals. The Grove featured highly, located a few miles out of town along a winding country road. However, they were very accommodating, even checking we were still coming the day before. All precautions were in place, very safe, excellent food and friendly hospitality. Worth the visit, thanks you.

Fantastic old pub with a very warm welcome! Following a recommendation from some family friends, we booked a table at the Grove during our stay in South Molton.Robert and team were fantastic to book a table with and have really set up the Inn to support social distancing & track and trace & eat out to help out. Note There is no parking at the Inn, but village hall & church 150m up the road both have ample space. They have a good choice on the menu, the Scotch Egg starter looks great, but I didn’t have space to try :-(. Local selection of steaks and also options for vegetarians. My T Bone steak was melt in your mouth good and our teenagers rump steak was just as tasty. My wife’s Brie Wellington also disappeared just as quickly!Apart from a shared sorbet, we were totally stuffed! Well worth booking in advance and visiting if you can for a meal.

We luckily managed to get a table here for lunch at the last minute as there had (annoyingly - especially in these times) been a “no show”. When we arrived we were warmly greeted by a friendly landlord who was doing a great job in running the business in a safe yet welcoming manor during this covid situation. The local beers we had were well kept and delicious. We both had fantastic food. The Scotch egg starter really shouldn’t be missed and the stuffed chicken with lyonnaise potatoes was gorgeous. Will definitely be back.

Whilst staying in the village we used The Grove for a drink and for our takeaway. The landlord is extremely abrupt bordering on rude. The food is nothing more than average, the curry was really watery, the “Massive “ prawns we’re miss described, they were simply average size prawns, the sausages (sausage and mash) were burnt on one end, really very disappointing. As per the title of my review, how on earth this place gets such good reviews is beyond me.If you’re looking for a Stalinistic regime this pub is ideal. We also ate at The Castle inn some three miles down the road and the landlord there was very welcoming.

Stumbled across the cafe when we arrived in Ilfracombe and needed coffee. Quaint and characterful and clearly has it's regular customers. Coffee was good and hot but the homemade Eccles cake was amazing! The other treats looked good too. Coming across The Naked Cake cafe was the best thing about Ilfracombe which was otherwise, tatty and very down at heel.

Lovely modern roomy lodges in a beautiful location. Breakfast choice was great, cooked breakfast very good & piping hot👍 Pub food also excellent, quick service, good choices. Most staff helpful & friendly. One member of staff who greeted us on arrival wasn't welcoming. Only a couple of minor things- rusty toilet roll holder which spoilt the rest of the very new bathroom & the shelf above sink is in the way. Suggestion - small fridge, there is room. Mirror near plug sockets. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Four of us popped in today and we were glad we did ! Looking through the window showed it was full but a table of four had just got up so we sat in their seats :) We all had the Breakfast at £11 each. Couldn’t fault the meal at all, plenty on the plate and locally sourced. Really good selection of coffee, tea and fresh orange 🍊 juice. Highly recommended Get a seat and order at the counter. Very pleasant polite service as well. Seating outside. Well done 👏👏
