Good, friendly service, pleasant atmosphere... and FANTASTIC battered haddock!!!

Decided to go The Grove for breakfast today. The quality of the ingredients was of a high standard. It was delicious, hot and tasty😋 Would certainly go again!

Consistently great service and food

A wonderful pub restaurant, we’ve been visiting whenever we are in Devon , the Sunday dinners are well worth travelling for . Yesterday we made the 1-3/4 hr round trip just to enjoy our favourite Grove Sunday roast . Great food and beer , especially great service and always a fuss made of our dog Alvin

Great pub to watch Rugby. We were lucky enough to get seats when a couple offered to share a table. Very dog friendly. Stayed for food. Best pub food I've had in years. No photo evidence sadly. All food served was piping hot and clearly not mass produced. Beer great as well. All in all one of the finest pubs I have been in for some time.

Another great meal. Good beers. Excellent service. Seated upstairs and Sophy was really attentive and lovely. Can’t wait to visit again.

Oh dear, not a great experience for a customer needing Gluten Free food. There is nothing on the menus that indicates if the choice is GF or not. Had to ask the server. He said "if you choose what you want I can find out if it's GF". He then brought a file of products & ingredients & sat thumbing through the pages - quite intimidating! Then said Fish & Chips is GF guaranteed. I immediately ordered Fish & Chips, which were excellent. Unfortunately by the time I got home I was ill & suffered all evening with all the symptoms caused by gluten. I had only eaten GF porridge that morning for breakfast as I do most days and I was fine. So I'm sorry I won't be visiting again until you can get your GF act together.

We found this pub on the internet and went to catch the last day of the January 3 course meal deal. The barman who greeted us was very friendly and helpful explaining there were 3 different menus and a specials board. We decided to sit outside because it was sunny. Having arrived at 12.40 to an empty bar area by the time I went back in for a second drink the whole place was full. In spite of this the service and attention we received was impeccable. The food was excellent- a perfectly presented 2 Scotch eggs with runny yolks and mustard: 2 chicken chassure with mash : a large sticky toffee pudding with clotted cream and rhubarb crumble with custard. The bill including a couple of pints was under £50. We shall be back soon.

After our son recommended the Sunday Roast to us we decided we had to see for ourselves. It was as fantastic as he said. Highly recommended, lovely staff, a nice view of the sea and a perfectly cooked meal. What more can one ask for.

We met old friends at the Grove for a pre-Christmas meal and absolutely loved it. It was their first visit and they loved the atmosphere, the the food, the drinks choice and the friendly service. All the meals were really well received - one beef pie, two fish pie specials and one liver and bacon, all absolutely delicious. The Grove is fast becoming our go-to pub in Exmouth, we'll be back soon!

Hadn’t booked but thought we’d chance it and popped in after a beach walk. Friendly greeting and a table was found for 4 persons with 2 dogs in tow (well behaved ones!). Food was delicious and so was the desserts. Service friendly and all around a really nice experience. Will definitely be back

Visited Exmouth for a short break and discovered The Grove. Booked in for an evening meal on the Sunday and we both chose the West Country beef carvery………Wow! Absolutely one of the best carvery’s we’ve both had. Booked again for the following night and the menu again didn’t disappoint, great service and ambience. We’ll be back!

Very dog friendly, staff amazing, food is exceptional

I visited for Sunday lunch with friends. We were all blown away with the quality of food. The roast beef was cooked to perfection and complemented perfectly with a bottle of Bordeaux recommended to us by the bar staff.

Had a wonderful early Xmas meal for our group of 12. Staff were on point and attentive. Food was tasty and served on time without delay. We could not fault our evening. We will certainly be returning. Top work team Grove!

Drinks at London prices. Guinness was £6.15 a pint. But a single Jack Daniels and Coke was a wallet busting £7.90. Guinness at the beach (100 yards down the road) is £4.80. It was also a better pint !. we ordered Cumberland sausage in the hole. It was tasty, plentiful and good value at £16.00. This is a really nice pub. Just a shame that the drink pricing is so outrageous.

You can tell a place is good when it is busy on a Thursday lunchtime. The food is not cheap, but portions are generous and really well cooked. Staff were efficient and friendly. There was a choice of well-kept ales.

One of the very best roast dinners we've eaten out and we've had many. The food was absolutely superb, beautifully cooked and presented and plentiful portions. We were looked after extremely well by the staff even though they were very busy. All in all fabulous experience and we'll definitely eat at The Grove again. Thank you so much.

Although it was very busy early on a Sunday evening and we were advised that there was a long wait for food. When it came it was very nice and all the staff were extremely friendly which all added to overall enjoyment.

It was my birthday, we'd booked a table well in advance. The pub couldn't trace the booking, asking if we'd cancelled it (?!?). We were then placed on a table by the door where we had to order from the bar as opposed to table service. Staff then approached and moved us upstairs to a nice table with table service. It just wasn't handled very well, no apologies, and they obviously did find the booking as the server then knew it was my special day. Silly really but I'd have thought a complimentary drink would have been a nice touch given our disappointment and worry at the start of our visit. Most of the food was great, some a little rushed after a mistake with the ordering. The experience would certainly make me think twice about returning I'm afraid. Lots of great alternatives in Exmouth. Oh, and they obviously DID have my booking as they emailed me asking me to review them....hence this mediocre review!

Althouth the website says breakfast served from 10am on Saturdays and Sundays, when we arrived at 10.10 it wasn't open. Tried the door, locked, The place appeared deserted so we gave up and went elsewhere. Shame.

We greeted in a friendly manner by staff and directed to our table. Drinks were brought as requested and our food was ordered. Having seen the size of the plates, we avoided starters and opted for Roast Beef, with a side of Creamed Leeks with a herb crust topping. This duly arrived and did not disappoint. Roasties, parsnips, cabbage and others accompanied three large pieces of tender beef, cooked perfectly. Having finished our mains, we went with Spiced Apple Cheesecake with ICE Cream and Apple & Plum Crumble with Custard. Both were delicious and finished us off. A truly enjoyable lunch with staff friendly but not overly attentive.

I came here with my family for Sunday dinner on the 29/9. The food and service were fantastic, I would highly recommend the Grove, one of the best places to eat in Exmouth.

Great place lovely food 😋 a must night out

We stopped in for some drives and snack, before going to the Rive Exe Cafe. My friend really enjoyed the Youngs Special beer and the scotch egg (it has a runny yolk) and sausage roll were delicious. We weren't expecting much and were very surprised. They had a nice selection of spritz cocktails, with something for everyone's taste. The sausage roll was better than the ones from Gloucester services (if you know, you know 😉). I would definitely visit again if I were in the area.

Excellent food, although wait for food was a bit long it was worth it. Great service from Sophy and the kitchen certainly know their stuff.

Nice pub - good atmosphere and friendly service. Nice selection of beers but the food was average. Fish and chips was slightly over cooked - crayfish salad was nice but not a lot of it. I got the impression that they were having an off day. Worthy of a second chance.

Booked a table for 11 for a special 80th birthday party. We pre-ordered and food was delivered really quickly. The Sunday roasts were particularly delicious! Staff were really friendly. Thanks so much for making a special birthday so enjoyable.

Visited many times for Sunday roast and always had good experience but this time it was beyond any past experiences. The roast was amazing with no casualties to the vegetables and the gravy. Beautifully done and the sticky toffee pudding with the ice cream was fab too 👍

The Grove is a ideal place for a great meal. The food is well presented and fresh. It proved very easy to reserve a table on line. The staff are very friendly and professional. We cannot praise the Grove anough.

Food was delicious, fish was fresh, flakey and crispy. Gammon was extremely flavourful and the piccalilli was fantastic. Dog friendly and lots of space.

We left the best till last!! The Grove is a brilliant traditional pub , as is the choice of food! Being a quiz night the place was buzzing with atmosphere , however the service was still very good. We had a great night, many thanks to All concerned!!!

Lovely evening meal. Although, there was an quiz going on the staff where very helpful. I am a full time wheelchair user and it was ok. Not sure if they have disabled toilets, I didn't ask. We were here on holiday but if we were local we would definitely be eating here a lot.

Chose to have a 'quick' dinner at The Grove before family headed out of town. Chose an early meal at 5:30 as we had young children and would walk on the beach afterwards. The (one) starter was reasonably prompt, however we were told after waiting an hour that the mains would still be longer. At that point we considered leaving as the little ones were restless waiting for their food. Fortunately they plated up not long after, and the food was delicious. We finished eating at 8pm deciding against desert as it was late. Our bill then was a drama with a bottle of wine and a coke we hadn't drunk added. When that was corrected we found a beer added we hadn't ordered. Everyone was very pleasant, but we ended up feeling frustrated and sad we hadn't gone for the walk. If we had known it would take so long we would have walked on the beach while waiting for the food. I hope its better coordinated next time as it is a pleasant place to visit.

We visited the Grove for the 1st time and twon't be the last ! My friends and I had a roast dinner 2 pork and 1 Beef , all lovely Meats with an assortment of vegetable and giant Yorkshires . Gorgeous food , lovely and comfortable view from the upstairs restaurant and attentive staff . Couldn't manage a dessert but the beers and wines washed it down a treat 😋

Just had Sunday morning breakfast at the Grove; lovely food!! The sausage was exceedingly tasty, bacon nicely cooked, fantastic eggs that were an amazing colour and well-cooked, not to mention the beans, mushrooms and sourdough toast! Brought the relatives, will be coming back again. Fantastic breakfast and well worth the money 😊

The food was slow to be served and overpriced for what we received. I had one of the specials on the blackboard tagliatelle which supposed to have Parmesan cheese which was non existent .. my partner had a mackerel salad which was full of lettuce and tasteless ! Be sure to check what you are getting before ordering.. sorry but we were on holiday and expected more for the price 😟

Attended a wedding here, it was brilliant. Great location and amazing views. The staff were exceptional, nothing was too much trouble and Caroline did an amazing job looking after us. The food really hit the spot and was very fitting for the location. The atmosphere was very welcoming and I would highly recommend this venue.

Attended a wedding hosted at the Grove. Perfect venue , bonus being able to use the balcony be cause the weather was dry. Food amazing, staff excellent, bar prices good.

Hired the venue for a friends wedding party and it was perfect. Amazing view, great private area upstairs with balcony. The food was fantastic (I had a delicious vegetarian ‘fish’ and chips and ‘pulled pork’ with mushrooms and jackfruit). Service and staff perfection - thank you! X

Attended my beautiful friends wedding, the location and atmosphere was beautiful. Beautifully set out business with fabulous indoor and outdoor areas. The hot food served was great with lovely presentation and was managed exceptionally well for the number of guests. It is also located across the road from the beach so would be a great holiday destination

Highly recommend the catch of the day which was delicious. We also thoroughly enjoyed the Weds night quiz. Having a round based on play dough models and another on chocolate biscuits was a great twist. My dad was also very happy about the Young’s beer. Friendly staff and great service.

We were a small group, spent just under £200 recently. I’d say for £19, the roast should be pretty good…3 roast potatoes, 2 carrots and a spoon of slop and a dump of cabbage (assuming they ran out of other stuff!) with meat and a Yorkshire. Very meh, and the service was about the same… was told ‘it had been mental’.. Please don’t greet your customers saying you’ve been busy- we just want to enjoy ourselves, and looking for the same hospitality I’d usually associate with some great venues in Exmouth.. could be a 4 or even a 5 but staff morale and the food offering needs work..
