Loved eating at The Kings Arms, it’s a cute and quirky restaurant/bar. We started with shrimps and mackerel pate, then scallops and venison. The food was delicious, well cooked and perfectly seasoned. The owner is a lovely guy and the music/atmosphere was just perfect. Will be back soon!

Table was dirty when we sat down and not set - Requested waitress to wipe it who was then pretty liberal with the cleaning spray right near my kids faces…🙄 Main course food was good although the kitchen/wait staff seemed to miss part of our order (sea bass) so in all we waited around 50mins for food to arrive! Puddings were not good, inedible, felt like mains were homemade but puddings were not! Also waited an age to get more drinks etc Asked if everything was ok when I paid (at the bar because we couldn’t wait at the table any longer!) and commented on sub optimal service to be met with a silence…don’t ask if you don’t want feedback! Not sure we will rush back but it’s ok if you’re in the area…

Things we loved - on site parking, loads of outside seating, welcoming ambiance, friendly engaging staff, large comfortable bedroom, the evening meal was a booked extra but was value for money and delicious. Things that made the visit outstanding for us - Having our two collies made as welcome as we were, the lovely surprise that they could have doggie dinners & breakfasts, which they enjoyed so much that we are rethinking how we feed them All the staff were lovely but a special mention has to be given to Michelle who manages the breakfast sitting - she was professional, informative and wonderful with our collies, a real asset x

(9th October) had the most awful over salted food. Steak pie, mash and vegetables. Don’t know why I kept eating it, I suppose I hoped the salt was just on the top layer of the mash but it was all the way through. There was no check back but I mentioned it when the partly finished plates were collected and when paying. Had a most uncomfortable night and all I can taste now is salt.

We enjoyed our dinner here very much. The white bait starter is excellent and generous, and it took three of us to finish it off. It's refreshing to see a chocie of small or large for fish and chips and the small was surprisingly ample. I had the steak pie which was very good, along with a lot of chips, roasted carrots and rutabaga and very tasty mushy peas. The local ales are excellent. Our server was both friendly and interactive and took very good care of us. We also found the pub's spacious layout a pleasure; there was less noise, no crowds and privacy for conversation. All in all a very nice visit for the three of us.

Had a 2 night stay to do some walking. Room (9) was a twin with small shower room. Full sun on the window so the room was extremely hot. We left the window and curtains closed the following day to keep it cool but upon our return the domestic staff had opened both and the room was insufferably hot again so we got no sleep for both nights. There was bell ringing practice at the nearby church first night followed by chimes on the hour every hour all through the night on both nights. Can’t see the need for this but not the pubs choice. On the plus side. The staff were very nice and helpful. Had a dedicated toaster for coeliacs. Buffet continental breakfast was adequate unfortunately no gluten free cereal but I had taken my own anyway. They did offer gluten free bread but again I took my own. If you are looking to book here be aware of the room being hot.

Lovely place, slightly quirky perhaps. No set menu, all depends what they happen to be cooking when you arrive, generally based on what ingredients look good at market that day. First time we were there we had a lovely selection of seafood with some of their sourdough, this time we had some scallops and a very nice pizza.

Heard a lot of good things about this pub so decided to take the family for a Sunday lunch. Was met by Freddie the manager and taken to our seats. Venison was on the menu and Freddie’s little joke about being deer was most amusing. We decided to have venison, beef and pork lunches. To say that the food was delicious is an understatement. It was possibly the best Sunday lunch we had had for years. Prices were reasonable and the ambiance is lovely. All staff were great with us and will definitely be going back. Reading the latest reviews decided to give the Kings Arms a try as staying close by. Noticeably busy on arrival is usually a good sign as the car park was full but found a few spaces in the street were available. Promptly seen by staff and taken to a table by a happy stocky guy with glasses on the Monday night. The food was amazing quality and could not be faulted and well done to the bar staff who remained polite and sociable. We decided to call in the next night just for a drink. Sitting in the lounge area all we could here was the manager going on at staff about 'every item of food and alcohol had to be accounted for'. This went on for a good hour along with expletives for good measure. He also mentioned how this months takins were amazing for October compared to last year. The poor staff appeared to accept this as a regular occurrence. Sadly I think this let the pub down after such great staff and food. The manager should consider a time and a place for such conversations! 10/10 for the rest of the staff tho.

Booked a table in the morning for dinner. Arrived and parked in car park but plenty of parking in the street too. Went to bar as early and got a drink and were shown to our table. Lovely inside with lots of room and nice decoration. A man explained that a large group of elderly people were booked in and had ordered their food quite late meaning food for others after was going to be delayed, he apologised but this was ok for us as we weren’t in too much of a rush. We ordered the roast lamb and fish n chips. The lamb came with Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, cabbage, carrots, green beans, stuffing ball and I had cracking too as it came with the pork which I don’t eat , but my husband asked f I could have some which they kindly did, after all it’s the best part isn’t it 😁. Anyway it was all so tasty and delicious and I have to say the best plated roast I’ve had anywhere local to Exeter. Bloody tasty and we are definitely returning again to try other food, staff excellent and so friendly and attentive. All in all a great place to eat and dog friendly too if you want to come with yours.

Very expensive and not really that good. We ordered Sunday lunch with a side of additional vegetables but when the veg came it was just a tureen of cabbage, hardly a variety. When ordering a sweet our order was taken and then asked 3 different members of staff if the sweet was on its way. When the bill arrived we looked at it and the pub was overcharging by £9.00. This is a community-run pub and would suggest that staff are trained to run such an establishment. This would make a huge difference to the pub's success.

We had been looking forward to trying this pub, having been stymied on visits to the area the last couple of years, but were nearly put off by recent negative reviews, but having driven past a couple of times and seeing it busy we thought 'well, it can't be bad surely' ... and we were right. In fact, very much the opposite. After nice welcome (it was pretty busy for a late lunchtime) and over some great ales on offer, we chose our food . Cajun Calamari to share between us in case the urchins didn't approve. Being pesky, they did. They then had mac'n'cheese which was spot on, and not salty. Swmbo had moules in a creamy wine sauce, I had the sea bass special. All were cooked superbly and we left, happy and full, and wondering where all the recent negative feedback has come from. Give it a try. We will certainly be going back.

We had a prebooked table at the restaurant for 3 people. On entering the pub we were ignored and had to gain the attention of a member of staff. We were greeted by the member of staff saying “name” rather abruptly. Nothing like the ‘warm...

Starter served tepid. Manageress apologetic and arranged for a hot replacement. My wife's meal arrived without potatoes ( included on menu). This was resolved by my sharing my potatoes as the pastry on my pie was pretty substantial. In fact I think it would have...

Twice I was served a so-called alternative to Raspberry and Apple J20 (tasted nothing like it), both times in a dirty glass. After much faffing settled on good old H2O! Had Camembert starter - lovely. Lobster Thermidor was nice but lacked sauce and the chips...

We stayed for two nights in early July and generally had a very pleasant experience. Our room was lovely - spacious with a comfortable four poster bed and free standing bath and spotlessly clean. We ate dinner in the restaurant on one night (booking essential)...

Often walk here from budleigh Salterton, and the food is good especially on a Sunday. However some of the staff are unfriendly to the point of rudeness.

We dropped in on the off chance based on the reviews that we’d read. I had tried to call to book a table but got no reply from either number. We didn’t feel at all welcome when we did drop in and didn’t bother staying for food. Won’t be visiting again.
