The Grocer in Tower Hamlets

Bright, airy, indoor/outdoor tavern located in the Spitalfields Market. Appetizers, entrees, cocktails, beer & cider on tap, and wine. Friendly service. Credit/debit card and e-wallet payments are the default here - not sure if they will accept cash or not. Both the Old Fashioned and Amaretto Sour cocktails were delicious. Staff was friendly and service was prompt. Nice spot to sit for a bit, though it does get very busy between about 5pm and 7pm.

Staff kinda rude, they could do with some communication training. Quietest place in the markets and know you know why!

Really good Sunday roast: spot on beef , great yorkshire pud, spuds, swede etc...loved it and there was plenty of it! Good wine, chilled staff made this an excellent late Sunday venue

We chose the restaurant at Spitalfields Market for quick dinner. We took the Baked camembert platter to share. The menu said with "summer fruits" there were no summer fruits when we got the dish. I asked for them and as they were no longer available, the supervisor offered us two free drinks or a complete refund of the dish. As my mum didn't want any drinks anymore, we decided for the refund. This service is absolutely unbelievable It would have been totally ok to offer just the half refund or any other fruit or vegetables instead. I would have never thought about a refund just because of missing fruits. The dish was delicious and perfect to share. Thanks to the staff and greetings from Austria

What a wonderful roast dinner! Wine was nice and service was OK- cool and efficient, no notable interactions. What let it down was the loos. Water or seriously watered down soap! The hand drier didn't work either. A shame.

Had a fantastic experience at this pub in Spitalfields Market! We visited as a team and were really impressed by how smoothly everything went. As a family of 3 and a dog we have frequented this pub on a few occasions and have found it friendly and the food really good. On our last visit we had a roast one being beef and two being chicken, unfortunately this time the chicken dinner had been over cooked and was dried out. Feed back was left with the duty supervisor and a free drink was offered. All we wanted was a roast that we know your pub can produce. Maybe next time...

We stopped here for lunch today and had a lovely meal/drinks. Good, friendly service and comfortable place to rest inside the bustling Spitalfields market. Would definitely return!

Great spot for a midday work lunch

We had a late lunch Sunday, consisting of a roast with steak and mushroom pie. The service was ok and staff were friendly. Beer was good. That was the good news. The food was really disgusting. The potatoes and vegetables had survived what seemed like a couple of days of being kept warm, they were tasteless and the potatoes very dry and hard. The pie was on its last legs and should have been introduced to the rubbish bin. The Yorkshire pudding was as dry as a desert. We are actually surprised we didn't get sick, I guess even bacteria couldn't survive the torture. Avoid this place.

Standard upmarket drinks and pub food. Reasonable price especially around Spitalfields. We had Schnitzel and fish and chips and both good. Lots of seating. Just walked in on a Wednesday night.

Had my retirement drinks party at The Grocer. Dannika and her team were wonderful and really looked after us. We didn’t eat but the service was excellent and we enjoyed the chilled under cover environment. Would recommend especially if you need to be protected from the potential dodgy English weather.

Awesome service, terrible app. It charged me without putting the order through but the folks at the Grocer made sure my friend and I were fed and got our drinks. Time for a word with head office - 1* for the app, 5* for everyone there. Thank you!

Went in on Thursday evening with Some friends visiting me in London. Ari was really wonderful, we felt very welcomed. What can I say? Took the time to explain some local beers for my friends and I to try and overall has great service! Very charming, will be back when my family visit for sure!

We had a brilliant light lunch here on Saturday - we had two of the sharing boards, both absolutely delicious, but the highlight was the staff - so friendly and went above and beyond to help us celebrate one of our party’s special birthday even though we hadn’t said in advance. Totally recommend. Thank you!

Even outside we felt comfortable with the heaters on. Atmosphere was relaxing and enjoyable. The server offered us an open table indoors when we ordered dessert, which was added to our experience.

Very disappointed that service charge was added to our bill for table of 2 when clearly stated on the menu that it's on tables of 4 or more, I'm aware I could have asked for it to be removed but it would have been very awkward in a busy restaurant. I have done as requested and sent a copy of the receipt last Saturday but you've not contacted me or done anything to rectify the issue, very disappointing

Visted para un sándwich y bebidas con mi marido, gran ubicación con mucho que ver. Un poco decepcionado en varios aspectos, mis maridos sandwich contenía mayonesa de mostaza, él odia la mostaza, pero no lo dijo en el menú. Mi sándwich estaba muy duro y crujiente en un pedazo de pan, ¡creo que había estado por ahí un tiempo! Pero lo más decepcionante fue que el menú dice claramente 12. 5% de cargo por servicio en mesas de 4 o más, pero se puso en la nuestra para 2 personas. Sé que podría haberme negado a pagar esto pero habría sido vergonzoso pedir que me quitaran algo cuando claramente no debería haber estado ahí para empezar. No volveríamos por las razones anteriores.

Once again, Dannika was the perfect host for my mates and I. Being all former City workers, the Grocer has become our go to place. Nice to be recognised as a ‘regular’ and the service is friendly and very efficient. Burgers &/ or fish and chips are recommended. We’ll be back again soon.

My son and I were tourists wandering around the market on a quiet weekday a couple of weeks ago and decided to stop here for lunch. All we had were the fish and chips but wow - delicious. Small praise perhaps because it was the only time we had that dish while in London but we enjoyed it immensely. Simple food done perfectly. Service was friendly quick and terrific.

Pub in the market. Decent range of cask beers and plenty of choice for other drinks. In and outside seating. U January 2025 - pleasant pub, insufficient cask beers. Nice atmosphere.

Had the best margarita!!!! I've tried a fair few but this was stand out. Great vibe, good service and enjoyable atmosphere. Lunchtime on a Saturday and not too busy. Didn't try the food this time but would go again.

Great pub within Spitalfields market. Good quality well prepared classic pub food. We had sausage and mash and burger both were great. Minor problem with cask ale - Young's Winter warmer, end of keg past it's best, which was immediately changed and rectified. Would definitely return.

We had a booking for 10 for after work drinks and nibbles. The Grocer team looked after us very well and we had a very pleasant evening.

I have been everywhere in the uk, but this was the first time i have seen a manager being so racist. Manager named mona was saying such words that were really wrong. Never coming back

3 months ago when we visited London we had a very great time at The Grocer’s. The food was delicious the beer was excellent and they had the best designed glasses I ever saw🤩 All the staff was very kind and friendly. If you are in London I would fully recommend to visit this place🤩

This year we introduced it to our children. They loved it. Whether it's fish and chips or Grocer Burger beef. Every bite is a treat. The only thing to improve is the temperature inside because a little wind is felt. That didn't stop us from enjoying ourselves.

I had a reservation here last night for dinner. We were seated immediately. The servers were so polite! We chose to order off the app. My boyfriend had the fish and chips. I’m a vegetarian and felt there was so many vegetable dishes available. Overall we were very satisfied and would absolutely recommend the grocer

Visited the grocer last Sunday , very happy with the chicken roast definitely worth visiting for , and as a person who don’t drink they have a wide range of non-alcoholic drinks which made me feel included I had a non-alcoholic amaretto sour which was really good . Overall I will definitely be visiting again soon

Love the super friendly staff there! The portions are quite big especially for the roasts on Sundays. I always go there to have either chicken roast or the vegetable wellington, love the potatoes they give with it too. And whenever I come with my dog the staff always immediately brings her a water bowl and some treats so she loves them too haha. The wait at the bar might get somewhat long when of course the pub is full but the staff always makes their best to serve everyone as quickly and efficiently as they can. So yeah, over all I'm super satisfied with my visits there, be it indoor or in their cute viby outdoor space, and I recommend it very much. They also got a very nice selection of beers on tap with extra options in bottle for dry Jan yeey!!

First time there, will go again

We had our team Christmas lunch at The Grocer and it was really good. Food was excellent with many saying their Christmas lunch was just like home! It's a great venue with a bar outside, which we decamped to after our meal. Heated lamps are the best. A big thank you to Dannika and the team.

Lovely pint of Young’s ordinary, lively pub with a great atmosphere. One of us had a burger and it looked excellent. He got us all chips and they were excellent! Good night out!

The Grocer has become my ‘go to’ place for lunch when I visit the City with friends. Over the last couple of years, as the staff has got to know us, we get looked after well and valued as customers. The food is good pub grub, a wide selection of beers and enough choice of wines certainly for me. I consider the cost good for the types of long lunches we have there.

Wish I could give 0 for service. Horribly rude servers. Please try to avoid- there are multiple other amazing places around the market.

I really enjoy going for a drink there when I’m in the neighbourhood. Nice bar, there’s plenty of seating (even ‘outdoor’ which is covered as inside the market, and heated). Recommend a visit!

It took 50 minutes to get my food despite not being too busy. They forgot my order and pretended that it was very busy in the kitchen. Had to go and ask twice for the food before I could get it. And the food wasn't with a 50 minutes wait either.

El tendero nos dio una cálida bienvenida y nuestra fiesta de 11 disfrutó de una comida muy agradable. Cómodos asientos al aire libre era muy útil para las primeras llegadas y nos permitió disfrutar del ambiente especial del mercado de Spitalfields. El personal era amable y servicial, la comida era caliente y sabrosa y había una buena gama de platos, y cervezas. No teníamos entrantes, pero quizás debería haber hecho dada la variedad de platos que se ofrecen. ¡Gracias a Dani y al equipo por ayudar a que sea una experiencia tan memorable!

I got a table here for my architectural group's aprés-tour social. Our waiter was super-patient and accurate (10 diners!) with drinks, serving food--and helping us pay with separate checks. Food and drink all excellent. I've taken off 1 star for service only because the orders took a little while to arrive (hey, it was Sunday lunchtime peak-hour!) and the interior was just a little on the noisy side (same). Recommended 😋

Alright, guv, if you find yerself around Spitalfields, The Grocer’s a solid shout for a pint. Nice spot, right in the thick of it, perfect if you’re knackered from moochin’ around the market. Got a good selection of drinks, and the pub itself has a proper nice vibe to it – modern, but not too fancy, y’know? Now, the food’s decent – won’t knock your socks off, but it’s tasty enough and does the job after a few bevvies. Prices aren’t bad for London, but let’s face it, you’ll always pay a bit more in town, innit? Only reason it ain’t getting the full five stars is ‘cos it gets a bit busy sometimes, and finding a seat can be like winning the lottery. But hey, that’s London for ya. Staff are friendly enough, and once you’re settled, you can have a right good time. All in all, The Grocer’s a cracking spot for a pint if you’re in the area. Worth a stop, for sure!
