Called in here while looking around Rugby for a meal and was not impressed. The food was not very appetising and the service was mediocre. The food was also overpriced for the quality. The place itself needs a makeover. Not considered value for money.

Met some friends here for lunch. We were the only table in the restaurant and yet the food took an age to arrive and when it did the burgers were over cooked and the Caesar salad looked like chicken from a can. They also got one of the orders wrong.

The food was lovely and the main filling, which was just as well as the starter involved 2 scallops for £11. Other starters such as the salad or clams were more substantial. Food was pricey but very pleasant. We didn't try the £50 gin nor the £25 steak recommended by the chef but I am sure both would have been lovely! The salmon, burger and samosa were lovely but the mango relish was very firey and too hot for the diner who ordered it.

Only visited this restaurant as waiting for my flat tyre to be replaced at kwik fit and fancied roast dinner. On entering extremely disappointed looks like no money been spent on it for years. Rooms very dated and dark and looks like it was closed as not one person was in the bar and we were the only people in restaurant the whole of the lunch time period. Felt really awkward and nearly walked out as service was very slow despite being the only customers in there. Waitresses were very pleasant and helpful . Bathroom area had been redecorated to modern standard and were spotlessly clean. We ordered roast beef which was superb I must say , beef was tender and tasty, Yorkshire puddings were home made and very nice and came with four types of veg. Really could not fault meal much better than table table at clifton. Shame Rugby was so desolate this end apart from the lovely view of men slouching around outside opposite pub smoking and further down street. Really not good location anymore.

Very good quality roast beef, a good cut, properly prepared, and a generous serving on the plate. Yorkshire pudding and vegetables also up to the same standard. Should be busier, considering the quality.

Positive: The food was quite good, and reasonably priced. We all chose the option of 3 courses for £17.50. Most of us had steak. I particularly enjoyed my dessert of cheese and biscuits, a huge portion and variety of cheese. Negative: It was a Saturday night. Our party of 13 were the only diners in the restaurant. There was a handful of people sitting in the bar, who also ordered food. On duty were a chef, a cook, 3 waiting staff and one bar staff. Like the last review, our service was also a little Fawlty Towers (but no swearing). On each of the 3 courses the waiting staff cocked it up, and brought out the wrong dish for at least 2 of us. We bought our first round of drinks at the bar when we arrived. Half way through the meal, we ordered another round. A waitress carefully wrote down our 13 orders. 3 of us got drinks that we hadn't ordered. I'm still trying to work out how that happened - how staff can get it so wrong on a quiet night? We had 13 meals, but were billed for 14 meals, though at least they changed that when we brought it to their attention. The food was good, but the service was far and away the worst I have ever experienced, anywhere, ever.

Recently attended a function for a group of 40+ people from a local sports club. It was a Saturday night but we were the only people in there & the staff weren't expecting us! After a 45 minute late start the food was actually very good but the details rather let them down...... They served by dish rather than by table Ran out of wine coolers Ran out of some wines Ran out of some beers, and we're a thirsty lot.... We felt this merited a reduction to the bill and that's when the fun & games started.... The manager swore at us, told us to never come back etc all in front of other guests. He was totally unprofessional & well worthy of Basil! Would I go back, YES, his performance could be a feature BA

After reading reviews on here I was sceptical. However, we attended on Saturday evening and we were the only ones there, with a gorgeous roaring fire and calm environment for my friends and I to relax in. The menu on offer was varied and I can safely say it is the best belly of pork I've tasted. Ever. The service was faultless, very friendly and informative. The food was superb and very reasonably priced. I personally think this is the best kept secret in Rugby as far as good restaurants are concerned. We have since been back and tried their Sunday dinner, which is equally delicious. So top marks. If you are looking for an inviting, warm, clean, tasteful evening with delicious food and great service, then try here. If not - why not?

Me and my husband went for Sunday lunch, well it was around 2pm when we arrived. By the time we got there both of us were quite hungry, so we ordered our mains- I ordered a Dubliner burger and my husband had a roast beef, we also ordered some marinated olives to snack. So far so good! It all went downhill once the drinks arrived - my cocktail - summer berry mojito - tasted like watered down soda with a strawberry, certainly no Bacardi was present and It wasn't a cheap cocktail. Just like the water I ordered our marinated olives never arrived. Around 14:45 our mains arrived. The roast beef was lovely needed a few more veggies and gravy but it was lovely, they brought out a wrong burger. It took another 15 to 20 minutes for the correct burger to be served, which once served was quite enjoyable. Why do I remember the timings so well? Well,we were pretty hungry when we got there, the starter/snack we asked for never arrived and I had to watch my husband eat his lunch while I was still awaiting mine. We didn't stay for dessert instead asked for the bill and went to have a dessert and coffee at Costa. The waitress was very apologetic about the whole thing, and only charged us for the food and not the drinks. Overall, food we were eventually served was ok, the service pretty bad and cocktails terrible. We didn't enjoy our lunch as much as we would have liked so we won't be going back!

Went here for Sunday lunch last week, outside blackboard advertised 3 courses and a glass of wine for 14.95 good value I thought, starters ok, over cooked roast beef and thin gravy with undercooked carrots, raspberry and thyme pannacotta for pud just no thyme that I could taste? Bill came and we were charged 15.95 each, I advised the waitress of the board outside stating 14.95 but were told the price is 15.95 not wanting to argue on a Sunday afternoon we paid and assumed they had just overlooked changing the price outside, walked by today whilst in town and the blackboard still says 14.95 !!!!! Come on guys that is misleading and yes I know it's only a pound but all adds up if a large group books.

We've eaten here on numerous occasions and always thoroughly enjoyed the food. A few months ago they changed the menu, and took all the starters off that both my husband and I loved; mussels, chorizo, goats cheese brioche. We always have a steak here and raved about them, but the last 2 occasions we have been massively disappointed. We both ask for medium to well and they came out almost rare on both occasions. Swimming in blood on the plate when they come out is certainly off putting. Unfortunately we haven't been back, which is such a shame as before this we used to go at least once a week (and recommended it to friends who also started eating here). If you bring back the old menu, and hire a chef who can actually cook a steak correctly, (my non chef husband manages!) we may be back.

Ate here on Saturday night and was not disappointed the food is fresh and cooked beautifully. Simple uncomplicated menu and presented really well to a high standard. Shame we were the only customers as I would throughly recommend. We have a taste card which the hotel honoured on a Sat night as the website for taste does not say they don't. All in with g and t bottle of wine three courses each it was £44 pounds which is a bargain. I've also tried the burgers from here at the food festival and they are amazing. Well done on a very enjoyable evening out .

Not only do they make their burgers fresh on site, daily and you can tell, they also bake their own bread and make their own toppings, needless to say we have been back 3 times this year, worth every penny and the nachos to start are grilled to perfection! So glad to find this place...and we are told breakfast is even better, maybe one day.

This was our third visit in a month and it is always a pleasure. The staff are very welcoming and the atmosphere is relaxing. We have only had steak when we've been because it is so good. The meal last night was the best yet as the steak was served with watercress and the chips came in a little, lined wire basket which looked good. Steak was cooked as we'd asked and we ordered the Stilton sauce which was really tasty. We were able to use our taste card so we had 2 amazing meals but only paid for one. My partner says the doombar beer is really good. This place has become our favourite place to eat and we can go more often now we can use our taste card on a Saturday too. Great value, great food and staff who take pride in the service they provide.

This is the second time we have eaten at this restaurant since it recently changed hands. We arrived quite late in the evening so it was empty and we were given the option of eating in the bar instead as it was cosier and warmer, so we did. We both ordered steak and chips, which came with a mushroom, tomato, watercress and onion rings. My partner's steak (well done) was perfect for his taste. Mine (medium) was a little rarer than I like so I sent it back for a little more cooking. We were both very pleased with our meals. Onion rings were hand made and delicious! I have to mention Eva who served us and seems to do almost everything in the hotel in the evenings. She is exceptionally efficient whilst maintaining an easy friendly approach - she is a real asset to the place. When we had finished eating we retired to one of the lovely big comfy leather sofas and enjoyed a couple more drinks before getting a taxi home from Dial-a-Cab, who arrived within minutes of ordering, thus ending the evening off nicely. Will def go here again. Added attraction is that they take the Tastecard thus giving us 50% off food, although we would have been happy to pay full price for what we had. Brilliant!

We went to the hotel as there was a deal on burgers & I have to say that mine was delicious! My partner had onion rings which were in an odd batter and sitting nin a little pool of oil so I wouldn't recommend those, but the service was great. If you like spicy, have The Mexicana burger. Delicious!Decor of the restaurant is a bit weird as it's basically non existent, which is why it's only 4 stars.

We went to the grill at the Rugby Hotel for a meal on saturday night as we had a Groupon deal for burger and fries for two for £10. The burger was really good although missing some of the contents mentioned on the menu. We went for the dubliner and the parisienne as recommended by the waitress. Sadly we were the only people in the bar and as the music kept going off we were eating in silence. Service was ok, but we were totally unimpressed when they charged nearly £6 for one small glass of red wine. Clearly how they make their money back on the Groupon deal. Don't think we will be going back as the drinks were a rip off! We could have gone somewhere with a bit more atmosphere for what we ended up paying.

Went to this hotel only for dinner on my daughters first birthday which was a Tuesday evening. The welcoming was unfriendly and were informed that they might not be able to serve us as it was busy (there were 5 people in the restaurant and only 3 of us) after checking with the chef we were informed that they could not serve us despite the fact I had a one year old in her pram and it was terrible weather outside I was not impressed at the service and have never been turned away from a restaurant because it was too busy with 5 people!! I will not recommend here to anyone especially families. Disgraceful hospitality and attitude!!

I never write reviews I always give the place a chance to speak for themselves if I have a complaint but after emailing over 5 times I have heard nothing which shows again bad management!

We visited the Rugby Hotel for the second time for lunch last Saturday (the first visit was not a Groupon deal). We wondered if perhaps we may have been unlucky the first time. The deal was a burger with side and drink for two for £13, you would think we couldn't go wrong! Ah but yes, it all went horribly wrong - AGAIN! The building/restaurant is nice enough and we are local so would use the place regularly if only they could sort out the service - which is abysmal! We were firstly given the wrong menu for the deal, OK that's not too terrible, we realized this and collected the correct one from reception. We then had to search for a waitress to take our order having waited for 15 minutes. We then waited THIRTY FIVE minutes for our food to arrive! We were the only people in the restaurant for the first fifteen minutes, and the people who arrived after us were served before us! A shambles yet again. There are serveral staff members around but none of them seem to have a specifc duty. We will not give them another chance. What a shame, when the food evntually arrived, it was fine.

I recently went to this hotel for a meal. To say I was disappointed would be an understatement. We were the first in the restaurant yet waited a terribly long time for our meal, half way through our meal a party of four came in - there was no cider, no mash potato, not enough crab for one order, the wrong starters were bought out, the waiter was too busy moaning about the chef, didn't know the soup even when asked twice and generally the place was very understaffed even for the few people who filtered in while we were there! Wouldn't go back!

We visited The Rugby Hotel thanks to a Groupon offer; 2 course meal and a drink for £19.Overall, not an experience I will repeat, not even for £19!The service was poor; the waitress had little knowledge of the meals on offer, and even less knowledge of the drinks available. The drinks included in the offer were limited. The bar did not serve bitter!!!The 2-course offer could only be a starter and main (having a main and pudding was not an option)Several of the dishes were not available, even though it was early in the evening and there were only 5 choices on the menu to start with.Steaks were not included in the offer (understandably) but if you wanted to upgrade to a steak there was a £7.50 premium, even if the steak was only £3 more on the menu!!Bread was not forthcoming.Service was slow; we were often chasing items and members of our party had to start without others being served.Certainly not worth the full price version!!

We've eaten out several times on Xmas Day, in different places - it's always over-priced for what you get (however much or little you pay!) so at £45 we didn't have particularly high expectations (other hotels locally charge £60-£80). Food was just about ok, but service was truly atrocious as only 2 members of staff as far as we could tell for both bar & table service. Very disappointing.No-one to meet & greet as we arrived so we went to the bar for drinks & took comfy sofas. When our meal-time arrived at 2pm one of us went to look for someone to say 'we're here' but no-one was around. We found our table and seated ourselves. The first sitting were largely still waiting fir their desserts.35mins later starters arrived, delivered by the same two staff who had been serving at the bar, with no apology for the delay. My soup was very very good, clearly home-made to a good recipe. When a chef & meat arrived at the carvery another 1/2hour later, we abandoned our dirty starter plates that hadn't been collected and went up. All fine, cheerful professional staff who knew what they were doing, Beef very rare no-one in our group wanted it, but that's personal choice. Got back to table & starter plates had been cleared, but no-one to ask for more drinks & no-one at the bar! We ran out of cranberry sauce before I got any, again no-one at all to ask. Roast potatoes were inedible - tasted like they'd been reheated/kept hot too long... completely dried up with leathery outer. Turkey was good tho' and plenty of it, veg were fine, nice rich gravy. Desserts fine but we were pretty fed up by then. At 4.40, having been there almost 3hours in all, we abandoned all hope of getting our coffees, asked for the cost of those to be removed from the bill, paid and left. Manager was apologetic but offered no explanation as to what had happened. The 4pm sitting were still waiting in the bar...Based on the service we received, I doubt we'll be back.

Carrots over cooked, sprouts under cooked, roast potatoes hard skins, no mashed potatoe and no bread sauce. overall meal was poor.Open fire with no guards around - this was a family event with small children present. As a Hotel it maybe ok, but for large events - forget it. We booked Christmas Day lunch at this hotel for three people. We had booked for two o'clock and were called through to the restaurant at about 1:50. One of our party had to move whenever someone wanted to go to the toilet or the staff wished to pass until we turned our table sideways and then it was OK. At 2: 30 we had not been served or offered starters and I queried with a waitress whether we had been forgotten as people came in after us and had been served and eaten their started and we had not been approached, it appeared we had in fact been forgotten. The three starters arrived very soon then but the two soups were virtually cold and had to be sent back. There was then a further very long waite for the main course including a beef option which was very fatty and virtually inedible. By the time we were offered our desserts we one our own in the restaurant and there was no atmosphere and so we did not have our desserts or coffees. It was a disaster and we will not go back again. We did complain but the duty manager didnot come to see us but did offer a bottle of wine. We requested the same wine we had with dinner but apparently there was no more left so we just had 2 glasses of a house wine and a mineral water..

One of the worst meals we’ve had here for a while, it went down hill a few years ago then pulled itself back up but unfortunately it’s nearly at rock bottom again. Birthday meal for 3 with 2 of us having starters. Holloumi strips really more like over cooked batter strips, they were very well (burnt) over cooked all the halloumi had nearly evaporated. Sharer Nachos normally they are hot these were ice cold and not the best. MAINS cold onion rings on the “super” specials hunters chicken, the chicken was chewy but hot and had hardly any sauce on (luckily they have bbq sauce as a sauce) And one fish and chips, the fish was thin and the batter was soft the chips on the fish n chips were ok. Won’t be coming back for a long while again!!
