Ok so it was definitely my fault. I went in with a Groupon voucher at 3.45pm wanting lunch or afternoon tea for two. I had no prior appointment but I was there with my bestie. The receptionist explained that lunch was over in 15 mins and asked if I’d like to book an appointment for another day. My heart sank. My friend had come all the way down from Buckinghamshire for lunch. We had not caught up in four years. It would be a shame to have to look for a new venue at this time. Florine is consulted (hope I got the name right?) and he comes out with a big smile, apologising profusely (apology???). He explained that the afternoon tea section would be closed in 10 minutes and rather than us rush our lunch and not enjoy it, would we mind if he set it up in the bar so we could take full advantage of the two hours allocated and enjoy our afternoon tea which he promised to set up himself as the chef was finishing his shift. We followed him to the lovely bar where he set up a secluded corner for us and we had a lovely, serene afternoon tea complete with three refills of Prosecco. IT WAS LIKE HAVING YOUR OWN PRIVATE SERVICE BY THE M’AITRE D. As usual The scones were heavenly , the cakes delicate and fresh and the sandwiches moist and filling. I have had my afternoon tea here six times now and will continue to have all my lunch dates there. The staff are delightful and FLORINE went above and beyond today Wednesday 3rd August 2022 with his kindness and excellent service. In these post covid days service like this must be appreciated. THANKS FLORINE THANK YOU MONTCALM MARBLE ARCH PS : I’ll be early next time !!!

A fancy modern restaurant... was very quiet on the night I went... only 2/3rds of the tables were seated (and they told us it was full that evening, made it difficult to get the time we wanted). Food all locally sourced; bread was fantastic. Portion size was really small...needed dessert to feel full...and that was with an appetizer and steak dinner with a side. Service was a bit slow...looked like only 2 servers for the whole room. Server a bit hard to understand from his accent (he said he was from Lithuania). Not sure I would return...but since I was there with colleagues, had a great time nevertheless.

...affordable tea but not memorable. The food is just ok, the service lacking to a noticeable degree, the tea was fine - but unlike other afternoon tea locations, I had to ask for a refill. Furniture is worn/dated, you hear every click/clack of the bar and kitchen in the dining room and the menu is even stained from food. There was nothing special about this location except that 4 of the 22 tables were full (so empty) and everyone that was there had some type of voucher/discount to have tea there. Which makes sense. I'm very much confused by the positive reviews - I don't understand them at all. If you're visiting London - have a proper afternoon tea almost anywhere else!

My little sister bought me and my girlfriend a voucher for a 3 course meal for my birthday. Upon entry the place looked lovely, open plan and resplendant. After being misdirected by 3 different members of staff we finally found the room (i'm hesitant to say restaurant) where our lunch would take place. We were shown to a table which immediately required cleaning by the waiter, as did 2 of of the other 3 empty tables. We were presented with food and drink menus and then ignored for 20 minutes while clearly visible staff joked around at the reception desk, then another reservation arrived; were seated; their table cleaned and we were then remembered. Drinks and food ordered. The food arrived; i must say the food was lovely. The only reason my review has any stars to be honest. Our starters were cleared and new cutlery bought out for our mains. Covered in food from the last patrons. Once exchanged for new cutlery, and then changed again for some actual clean cutlery, our mains arrived. Again beautiful food. Cannot fault the food at all. The service was beyong abysmal. I thought maybe we were ignored because the meal itself was "free", then i thought that the drinks were the only way they were making any money out of us on the day; so why were we not offered any follow up drinks when our mains arrived and my glass was empty??As a couple who both work in the industry we were both baffled by the beautiful building but completely unflecting opinion of the staff; who at best were lazy, at worst, rude. If you can't be bothered to interact with your guests, you are in the wrong trade. Hotel side of the business looked lovely, a tripadvisor check reflected this. So id expect the "restaurant" to be at least 4 out of 5 stars for quality. Alas it gets 2. And they are both for the food.

We had lunch, three courses and coffee and a glass of champagne for two - a Christmas present, a so called Virgin Experience Day in this five star establishment. The lobby is rather nice, the restaurant a bit bleak, the service was most attentive but lunch - five tempura prawns with a dipping sauce out of a bottle, a risotto with tiny peas, maybe mushrooms, and slivers of tasteless parmesan, and a rather good but minute sticky toffee pudding. I could have put it together from Waitrose, no from Morrisons or Tesco. The wine was OK - that was extra. And it is one of those establishments were they add a service charge but also leave the space blank for you to fill a tip in when you pay by card. Naughty. Beardie should try out his experience days first and the hotel should be ashamed.

Nothing was too much trouble and the food was really good. The presentation on the very unusual plates was beautiful. When it came to dessert mine came with a 'birthday' candle which was a very good touch as we booked this up nearly 2 months ago and mentioned it was for my birthday, so good on the booking staff. Can't wait to go back again, must find some excuse!

I ended up getting a full refund for my valentines day at The Montcalm. Afternoon tea was okay but the staff are extremely rude & do not apologise for it. They messed up ALL of my reservations & even refused me entry at one stage. SPA was way too over booked which was not enjoyable. None of the staff, and I mean none, are English & it was difficult to understand a few of them. My potatoes at dinner were raw as were the apples in my crumble. We found this afternoon tea experience really lovely, even better than the Ritz. We arrived at the hotel and the door was opened by a liveried doorman (all adds to the experience). The staff on reception were friendly and polite and walked us to the restaurant, even though it was only a few feet away! We were seated quickly, chose our tea and the food and tea was brought to us very fast. We had booked a tea with prosecco but they had run out so served us champagne instead fort the same price. The food was lovely and plentiful, and very fresh and the tea delicious. The waiter was attentive throughout but at no time were we hurried, so it was very relaxing eating and listening to the harpist. We couldn't manage the cakes so they were bagged up for us to take away - another nice touch I thought. Very happy.

A group of us recently went for afternoon tea at The Montcalm and it was the worst experience ever! Firstly, despite having made a reservation some weeks ago, there was no record of our booking and we had to show them a copy of the confirmation email before they accepted that we had one. We were shown to tables in the Grill Bar which was a dingy room with no atmosphere whatsoever. There was also a lot of confusion over the pre-agreed group rate, and it took quite a considerable time to confirm with the waiter exactly what it should be. Although the staff were fairly attentive, their manner was very abrupt, which some members of our group found particularly upsetting. The selection of tea was good, and the individual teapots were regularly topped up with hot water. Those who did not drink tea or coffee enquired what other drink was available for them and were told they weren't allowed fruit juice, but that the waiter would make an exception! The food was very average. The finger sandwiches were quite bland, the scones tiny, and the cakes were just basically not nice. A lot of food remained uneaten as a result. It was a shame because the tea had been arranged as a meeting point for a group of friends who had travelled from all over the country to be together for a few hours.A complete waste of money, I would not recommend any one go there for Afternoon Tea. We really should have just walked away at the start, but we were a group of hungry people that needed to eat asap. Don't make the same mistake!

A friend booked this for a girls lunch on a Saturday on one of those voucher deals and we were not disappointed. For the incredibly cheap price we had 3 fabulous and generous sized courses, the food was very tasty and very well presented. The tomato soup was lovely, the veal chop was a generous portion and cooked very well and the apple strudel was nice but slightly too citrus-ey for me. We were the only ones in the restaurant so had outstanding service, although there was only one waiter so had it been full we probably would have had a different experience. Definitely worth while if you can get one of those voucher deals.

The hotel is really nice, although the receptionist was slightly rude and snobby, but that was expected due to the location of the hotel. Shown to our seats and explained what we could choose, the selection was great and unexpected. We had a variety of teas and champagne that we could choose from. All of the service was outstanding. The food was slightly disappointing and bland, and the sandwiches weren't exactly exciting. The deserts where lovely and there was a good selection.Over all it was definitely an enjoyable experience yet a greater selection of food and taste in the sandwiches would have made the lunch really stand out.

I really felt the Afternoon Tea could have been much better. We went for the Champagne Afternoon Tea option, having used a 2 for 1 voucher, I still have to say felt was not value for money, I would be suffering an extreme case of buyers remorse if I had paid the full price without the offer.I felt that If the Montcalm Hotel are charging people the price that they are I really think they are in serious need of elevating the standard of their food.I have tasted a much better selection of sandwiches and pastries at hotels with much less of an prestige and reputation than the Montcalm and for half the price. To start off the pastries where not fresh, I know certainly this maybe a big ask, but simply defrosting frozen goods (not properly) leaves less to be desired. The assortment of pastries were varied but they all tasted bland. The little cupcake we were given was cold (not defrosted well) and absoloutely tastless, tasted like something you get from an highsteet supermarket, just bland, not fresh and no fluffiness. The custard mini pastries that followed shared the same distinct lack of taste and blandness. The sandwiches were also very poor. The bread tasted fresh at least but the filling again bland and tasteless. Very unimaginative filling and selection was poor comprised of egg mayonaise, salmon, cucumber slices and ham . Honestly felt if they provided M&S sandwiches would have been better. I suggest the Montcalm up their game, I read all the varied reviews beore booking and can only pressume those that gave positive reviews are use to afternoon tea at a very substandard level if not are not very well acquainted with the afternoon tea experience and what should be expected. The service was adequate and the room was beautiful, but having had many afternoon teas at various establishments, I can say this one was very uninspiring. I will not recommend this afternoon tea, just hope that a better standard is given, and more thought and care given to the selection of assortments given and above all the taste of the food being served. Its very nice to use pretty cutlery and tea pots to create the right atmosphere but substance to the food is key and cannot be ignored.I was left full, so there was adequate food, but that beind said, had the food been tastier perhaps would have finished what was provided,

The service was faultless and attentive and for that the staff get 5 out of 5 but the food was a let down! The sandwiches were not fresh......I got the feeling they make the sandwiches in large batches in the morning but by the afternoon the bread drys out! We got there for 2pm so the bread should have been soft. I think they do this to save time as there were a few Groupon customers there. The cakes and pastries tasted fine but were nothing special, more shop bought from M&S or Waitrose rather than home made.Very glad that I didn't pay full price. Was lucky enough to go to The Montcalm for a business lunch. The venue is well-located and maintained to a very high standard. We were offered an a la carte menu or a set lunch menu. The set menu was a little limited so we all chose from the a la carte. The food was really nice - well presented and very tasty. The wine we had was lovely although the wine list we saw was very limited and, at £32, ours was the cheapest bottle available. I know we were in a 4/5 star hotel but that seems a lot to me.The waiter was attentive but perhaps a little too over the top for me. He insisted on telling us all what was on our plates - forgive me but I think I know what a chip looks like. I don't think I need someone to state the bleeding obvious. He was nice though and only trying his best. The lack of atmosphere noted by other diners was also noted by us. Hotel restaurants are notoriously hard to fill and it seems that The Montcalm are having the same issues as everyone else.

We went to the Grill at The Montcalm using a Groupon voucher. We started our evening in the bar where we had our complimentary glasses of prosecco. The staff were friendly and efficient and provided complimentary chilli rice crackers with our nibbles. After enjoying our aperitif, we moved on to the restaurant were practically all the diners were using the same offer. The dining room is elegant and comfortable. We were served by Gabor, who was very efficient and explained to detail what was included in the offer. We were made feel very welcomed by him not like the average service you get in other restaurants when the staff know you are using a voucher.Homemade bread was tasy as it was the spread served with it. The only criticism is that there was very interest in up-selling starters, side orders or sauces. We tried to order couple of extra dishes and we were told that we didn't need to as the steak was quite big.The quality of the meat was ok, I wasn't sure if it was cooked fresh from scratch or finished at the time of our order. The piece of bread under the steak was dry so you assume it would have been moist with the juices if the meat was freshly grilled. However, it was tender and flavoursome. We couldn't finish the meat as the portion was huge!Desserts were not homemade in my opinion but they were acceptable. Two of the wines we ordered were not available but Gabor handled the situation extremely well and suggested an excellent alternative.Considering what we paid for the voucher, everything represented excellent value for money. I would cetainly recommend and return should they do another special deal.

We visited the Montcalm following a ten-year absence on the back of a Groupon deal, £39 for the two of if I remember correctly. The restaurant used to be very traditional; swoops, Victorian detail and even a piano player. All that has gone I'm afraid and modern 'black and bling' replace the ornate Victoriana. The new look is particularly unsuccessful in the bar area where dining chairs and mismatched (in size) tables replace soft and squashy sofas. The deal included a glass of Prosecco which we took in the bar. A very good quality one it has to be said. On arrival in the restaurant we were given the option of three tables. The room is large, airy and modern. I wasn't taken on the lighting and found it a bit too bright for my liking. Our waiter, Gabor, came over and described the deal, what was included and so forth. There was no attempt to upsell or offer us anything else. It was made quite clear that the rib-eye was more that sufficient (that proved to be an understatement!). We were shown a "special" wine menu - supposedly discounted - but the choice we wanted wasn't available. We then chose a wine from the standard wine menu (only available on request) and this wasn't available either. Our third choice was. Complimentary still or sparkling water was offered. There wasn't a starter included in the deal but warm, tasty bread was delivered. The rib-eye turned up and was huge. I don't think it was cooked fresh to order, probably sliced on order only. It was a bit dry and would have benefitted from a warm sauce (which we'd have happily paid for if offered). The usual "complimentary" sauces were included such as ketchup, mustard, Horseradish etc. The chips were crunchy and very tasty. The bread that the rib-eye was served on was dry, hence my 'not freshly cooked' comment or it would have soaked up the juices. It was too much for us to manage and I felt a bit "not more" as I struggled through.Desserts were a bit of a let down but I could hardly move by the time I'd eaten the rib-eye!All in all, excellent value, great service (thank you Gabor) but rib-eye is probably best eaten in smaller quantities!

I went to The Grill at The Montcalm for a champagne Afternoon Tea with my sister, using a groupon voucher. We are always sceptical when using vouchers about the service we will receive, but we were very happy with the service. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left the staff were extremely curteous and helpful. The area we sat in was quite small with approximately 8 tables. The decor was a little tired but very clean and not too fussy. Had a lovely art deco feel to it. The waiter and waitress that looked after the room were cheerful and helpful. My sister and I are both vegetarian and this was no issue when we informed them and when the food arrived the waitress explained what was in all of the sandwiches and the different types of cakes. We each got a glass of proscecco which was nice, a smoothie, pot of tea (water being replenished constantly), sandwiches, a mixture of cakes and pastries and scones with jam and clotted cream. We spent our time grazing through the food and can say we did finish it as we had not had breakfast, although we were both so full at the end. Quite a few people did not finish theirs but were given small bags to take what was left away with them if they wished. This was a very pleasant afternoon. I have seen a couple of negative reviews in regards to the food, but we were very happy with what we received. I do feel that sometimes people expect far too much. We had a voucher also so got 2 afternoon teas for the price of 1 which made it a cheap afternoon for us so we found it good value, although we probobly would not have paid full price for it as it would be outside our normal budget, this was a lovely and enjoyable treat.

My wife and I had a lovely Afternoon Tea at The Grill at The Montcalm on Monday 30th of July. I purchased the afternoon tea for two through a Groupon voucher, and we received excellent value for money. Reserving the table was made very easy by the friendly and accommodating staff, assisting us when we didn't have printed copy of the coupon.Admittedly I do not have a lot of experience of Afternoon Teas (my only other one was at the Ritz), but the food was lovely. I was worried that by using a Groupon voucher we would receive less than the full price cost, but happily this was not the case. As well as our afternoon tea (and a sandwich replenishment) and glasses of prosecco, we also received a fruit smootie and a delicious three flavour mousse. The scones and the Montcalm tea were particularly nice. It definitely exceeded my expectations for the cost.We visited after the Olympics Archery event, and the restaurant was quiet except for a few other couples and parties, but this was welcome for my wife and I. Stylish but relaxed venue, excellent service, good quality champagne and the brunch food was good. The food and whole experience would have earned "excellent" but eggs benedict have to be "made to order" and not pre-made with dried "skin" as the sauce. The second deduction came from the dessert table - didn't reach at all the same level as the salads & mains. Profiteroles thick & dry with just "a hint" of filling and apple crumble very dry, overcooked, almost burnt from edges. A bad day in the office for pastry chef???

We had booked a package which included the spa and one course lunch with a champagne cocktail. We went on a weekday and the restaurant was empty when we went in at 12.45...we had booked but it was not necessary. The menu only offers about 3 options for starters/mains/dessert - the mains offered 1 meat, 1 fish and 1 vegetarian option which I felt slightly disappointed with for such a nice restaurant/hotel. The service and quality of food was excellent and we could not fault this....we were given complimentary sparking/still mineral water and different types of bread. I opted for the lamb which was slightly pink although I had opted for well done...however was very tasty. My friend had the salmon which she said was also delicious. Our offer also gave us 2 glasses of champagne which was a nice touch and end to our spa trip. I would be happy to go again but would probably opt for an evening meal as I hope this would give more choice and a bit more atmosphere with more people dining.

Had a deal for steak and chips and a glass of wine at the Grill at the Montcalm and have to say was very impressed. Service was excellent, the steak was cooked to perfection, thrice cooked chips - really tasty. A lovely mixed selection of breads and great petit fours. Could not fault it. Restaurant is really lovely, staff so helpful, would definitely go back.

A lovely afternoon tea was had at this hotel restaurant. Fabulous choice of tea, with top up of water or change of tea when required. Tier of sandwiches, scones and cakes looked and tasted great, and service was also very good. At no point did I feel pressured to finish and staff were all very polite and always to hand. The setting was very ordinary, as in a pleasant restaurant but nothing special, but conveniently near Marble Arch; the hotel looked wonderful too.I did use a Groupon voucher for a champagne tea (very nice champers), which was excellent value, although a bit pricey without the voucher. I would come back here, but only with a voucher!

The website indicated an exciting addition to an area already filled with great restaurants. However it is far from it. It is a typical hotel restaurant with substandard food and desultory service. There is no atmosphere in the room. We ordered two glasses of champagne, one of which was totally flat. The mushroom soup, which was adequate, was served in a dish so large that when my partner rested his spoon on the side it fell in and disappeared into steaming hot liquid. My main course of steak was almost inedible. When asked by a waiter in a bored fashion how the food was, and seeing my meal was half eaten, my response of 'it was just OK' did not evoke any response. They don't want to know. If you are staying at the Montcalm hotel there are any number of brilliant places to eat moments from your doorstep. Don't waste your time, money or palate on going to the hotel restaurant.

It all looks OK but service is poor and the bar food served is cheap frozen food at prices that should require a far better quality. There are far better options in London

I used to love this place, but haven't been for nearly 10 years. I'm glad to see it hasn't changed too much, but with the downside that it is now apparently owned by BrewDog. Luckily, it appears they let them continue without having to follow the "taproom by numbers" you get out of most BrewDog bars, so not only does it have it's own look, but there is a much more interesting selection of beers. It was easy enough to get a seat on a Saturday afternoon, which is always a bonus in a decent location like this.

Caja de almuerzo muy saludable y abundante. Me tomó mucho tiempo terminar en realidad. . Servicio agradable, no demasiado pretencioso, relajado. ¡recomendado!
