The Greyhound in Gloucester

The rooms are suitably warm for November. Marsdon pub. Keeps and serves a quality ale but not so many options. Food expensive for what it is. Clearly overpriced for small options that might include things that dont. The cod and chips dish was expected to have a decent sized cod but looked more akin to a skinny small plaice with more batter than actual fish. At £13.50 expected better than this and probably overpriced by 50%. Guinness £5. Nice atmosphere with large screens showing sport without sound. Various seating areas. Not sure if a large retail pub chain is good for food nowadays. A cod and chips at the local chippy far better value when compated to recent visits.

Foods gone downhill badly used to be so nice now microwaved and revoked meaning raw and cold .when I informed young staff member she just replied sorry about that and walked off. We got up and left

Halloween Quiz night was so much fun ! I will definitely go to another quiz there. The questions were either answerable or at least guessable, some other pubs are too much like Mastermind!

Me my partner and my two children attended the Kids Halloween party This evening with a few extra people and I must admit In 2024, Nothing is usually free, but this kids party that You guys Threw was Above and beyond all of our expectations, The DJ was amazing and interactive, doing Spooky Pass the Parcel and Musical Statues, and for a free entry for everyone it really was amazing, and just to top it all off all the kids were given Goodiebags at the end full of Treats and toys. This was exceptional and One of the best Functions we've been to with our children! The Greyhound Pub were amazing and Friendly hosts.

I was chatting to my friend when he arrived at the bar. I heard the barmaid a senior lady refuse to serve him because he had drunk enough. When he explained he hadn't had anything to drink she said " I can refuse to serve anyone I want . I've not been to this bar yet and from what I heard doesn't sound very friendly 😐

15 of us for a birthday , all the meals came out as ordered and hot . Reasonable prices and tasty . Staff were very good and attentive . Would recommend for a big party .

Wow 11 people we walked into an empty pub and they told us they have 2 groups coming in and basically didn’t want our money what we should have done was just sit at separate table and they would have made round £150.00 but his attitude was so unfriendly would never go back

Arrived and there was lots of parking space. Great friendly staff who can’t do enough to accommodate the customers. Very warm by the radiators.

Great local. Fish n Chips are great. Curry night on Wednesday good value for money. Has its up n downs, but I keep coming back

Got the feeling the bar staff would rather be anywhere else, please and thank you cost nothing. My real disappointment was the 3 pound I paid for the bowl of 15 chips 🍟 yes 5 chips per pound . Very poor value for money.

We had an amazing time in the Greyhound catching up with friends. We all had steak and it was absolutely delicious. Thanks to Nicky and Tom for making our night out so enjoyable

I ordered a Philly cheese steak & was asked how I wanted the steak cooked (med/rare) turned up overdone. The baguette it was in was inedible, rock hard & chewy like it had been frozen. Meal supposedly changed but only the baguette which was pretty much the same, raw red onion & peppers and by this time my fries were cold!! My partners chicken burger was overcooked & also the hash brown & fries. Awful meal & when I advised the member of staff working today I was met with “ oh I’ll let them know” Shame as I quite liked it here but won’t be going back, awful food & service, don’t waste your money

Food was okay but nothing special. Didn't have half the menu so had to go to the bar three times to order. I'd recommend the King's Head at Upton which isn't far.

Having been sent a leaflet with 30% discount vouchers decided I would visit here today - the first time in many years. Showed vouchers to barman before ordering; he did not seem very familiar with them, But placed my order then told voucher was invalid; Left and went to Hare & Hounds a mile up the road instead! Never again!

We have had a fabulous meal this evening, my Husband had fish and chips and I had a chicken supreme pizza 🍕 with a few extra's - couldn't fault it 😋, would thoroughly recommend giving it a go for a meal.

Lovely bar staff, food good quality

Came here on a Thursday evening with some old school friends. The food hit the spot and our servers Edwin and Nicky were exceptional and made our whole evening. Would highly recommend if you’re out in Gloucester; best pub I’ve been to.

Nicky and Edwin were superb, came in last Thursday with family and stayed with some friends later, they were great the whole time, very accommodating and lovely, would highly recommend to anyone going to Longlevens

Nicky and Edwin run such a great restaurant and bar. I had the Sirloin steak and Scampi and it was amazing! Great value and staff are lovely as well as tentative.

Was served by Chris. He was very welcoming and polite. He recommend a burger and it was delicious. Couldn't thank him enough.

Loved the sweet potato fries worth the extra. service was excellent especially Orla, really made the experience something special.

Great atmosphere as the football was on. We ordered via the QR code and and Chris the waiter was excellent. He was very efficient and polite. The food was by far the best we have had here! Compliments to the chef. A great evening had.

13 of us went for my mother in law’s 91st birthday. We booked the well area and the staff had put banners and balloons up for us. The food was great and no complaints from anyone. The staff were attentive and friendly. I would highly recommend. Thank you Greyhound pub.

We have just moved out of pur house and travelled two hours to the Gloucester. We have previously come here when viewing the area and lived the food so came back. From the moment Ashleigh saw us enter, she gave a warm smile, brought over a water bowl and treats for our dog. She was stilllovely and smiling throughout our whole meal experience. We all opted for steak and it melted in our mouths plus it came out quickly and piping hot! Think this will become our regular place for delicious food!

My husband came in last night and ordered the mixed Grill it was cooked to perfection well done to the chef. He also said nicky pores the best pints.

Came to the greyhound last week for some food and drinks with family 😃 was a great atmosphere. And the food was very nice. Will be going back again!

Worst meal I've ever had. I booked for 3 but was given a table for 2. Wanted a steak but no steak at all, ended up with the hunters chicken which was luke warm and no barbecue sauce or cheese, limp rocket. Absolutely awful

Mixed reviews on the greyhound. Booked a table for 3 people but was put on a table meant for 2 yet there was couples on the bigger tables. No steaks so very limited option when you fancy surf and turf! Hunters chicken wasn't very warm, and was lacking any bbq sauce and cheese. Pepperoni pizza had lots of crust. The ultimate spicy burger was the one thing that was really nice. Don't think we'll be back any time soon!

First visit since the referb using the 30% off mains so two mains and 2 soft drinks costed £22 which wasn't bad. We went for lunch. Dog friendly, nice outside area which we didn't use. Large car park. Will deffo go again.

I'd never been to The Greyhound but they leafleted Gloucester homes last week so I thought we'd give them a go. I did think that given they had undertaken an expensive promotion they would be making a special effort in the pub. Alas, far from it. Service was half-hearted. For example, when my plate arrived it was minus its peas. I had to really insist to get the waiter to take the food back and add the peas. The food was really poor. The fish was good enough but the fries were dry and not the chunky chips that would have been more appropriate. The veg burger was just about okay, but the steak and ale pie was awful. It was very dry, as was the mash potato. The gravy was ridiculous: the tiny bit in a jug was so thick that it was hard to persuade it to leave the jug even when tipped upside down.

Food not up to standard for a roast dinner

Lots of food not a available from the menu -tbf - it was well.explained but there were no burgers left ? How can you not order in one enough of the most popular items on the menu ? Ordered pizza instead -small and overpriced in my opinion

Staff very happy and helpful, nothing was too much trouble, food was marvelous, and everybody got to eat at the same time. Very enjoyable experience

We originally dropped in because they have a faster/ 50kw electric charger in the car park but once in we were really pleased to see a non-gluten menu too! It makes it so much easier to pick and order food we loved it!

My coworkers and I went there for a friend’s retirement. The food was amazing, outstanding service with friendly staff, and surprisingly their Pepsi soda was nice and bubbly which is hard to find in most pubs! The place was clean and the atmosphere was extremely pleasant. Kudos to my coworker James C for recommending your place for such an important event.

Large group for leaving do. Seperate area, well looked after, everyone happy with food and drinks. Will return!

Fab place, friendly and welcoming staff. Food was lovely, especially the banoffee tart! My only gripe would be more vegan friendly options please! I had Thai style curry, and banoffee tart with vegan vanilla ice-cream.

Never had a bad meal here. Went on a Sunday afternoon for lunch, had the Thai Green Curry and Banoffee Tart. Food was excellent, staff friendly and we received our meals quickly. Always a pleasant experience.

Booked online , assistant manager rang before visit to say tills had gone down so could not trade. Went to a competitor had a good meal

Was booked for my birthday. Unfortunately it was me who suffered food wise. I ordered the kebab and Unfortunately when I received it it was cold not even luke warm. I did send it back but by the time I received a new one the rest of my family had finished their food. Bit frustrating as it didn't appear very busy atleast not on the food side of things so I was a bit Disappointed

Missed items off the ordered food, overcooked, some items cold, sauce still jelly like. Outside in the garden so slippy due to years of dirt. Place needs a new team and a clean. Okay for a beer as long as not in a rush, just get food elsewhere

I have sent an email in regards to our experience with you. Unfortunately it was not very good at all. This was our first visit to eat at the Greyhound and will probably be our last which is a shame as we live within walking distance. Food was cold and well over cooked and when telling a staff member it seemed like we were causing him a problem. But enough said hopefully the email gets to the correct person.

We received a voucher through the post so thought we would try it out. There was a bit of a wait on food but we were happy to wait. My partner ordered the mixed grill and I ordered the ultimate southern fried chicken burger. We also got the burger bar for our baby.The portion sizes were pretty decent and the food was tasty. The service was good and the person waiting the tables was polite and reassured us the food was on the way. It was quite busy for a Thursday lunchtime but the staff seemed to be calm and on top of it.

Myself, and my fiance have been regular visitors to The Greyhound in the last 18 months. Most times we have a meal. We have never been disappointed with our meals, or the service provided by the staff. The weekend of 22nd of March, 2024, our friends came for the weekend. We booked a meal for the 4 of us, as it was the females 60th birthday on Saturday, and her husbands birthday on the 23rd. It was not only their 1st time to The Greyhound, but also to Gloucester. They were very impressed with The Greyhound, and said we had chosen such a lovely place for our meal, which they also thoroughly enjoyed. After our meal, the staff brought out the birthday cake, which we had dropped in earlier in the day. Staff were singing Happy Birthday. Our friend was very overwhelmed, as she did not expect it. I have to say, from bar staff to kitchen, and waiting staff, everything was spot on. Absolutely nothing negative to say. Thank-you to all at The Greyhound. Xx

Went there last Sunday to watch the football with my son...got there 12.40 sat in nice seat by bar opposite the TV...there was 3 tables I sat in middle best view... Then a bar lady came over put tables reserved for 2pm..I asked who for the regulars was her reply....12.45 my son comes in gets himself a drink...then a party of say 6 sit to my right ..I think I will move over to far left so they can get in I won't be selfish...so I'm sat on far left table my phone goes so I get up to take call outside...and a punter sits in my seat ..he knows its my seat but still sits there. What u doing u idiot I say don't call me that I said ur a rude idiot In fact u could clearly see my drink is there....he said we booked table ibsaid yes 2pm it's 12.50...I go outside as I'm raging to take my phone call ..I come back in no drink ..manager comes over and asks me to leave as I swore at 1 of his customers ... a rude idiot isn't that bad when someone jumps in your seat ....i did point out to him it was his fault booking tables at 2pm and his customers expecting it demanding it at 12.50 and pushing out a customer as he just got up...I understand all pubs need regulars it's good business for them and they need to be kept happy ...but it was his customer who was in the wrong ...and the manager could of handled it so much better ...this manager is new to the pub and has a bad attitude...the previous week I asked for pint of pepsimax which was 2 thirds full he said that's what u get as u didn't have ice surely ice is optional ...u wouldn't serve a pint of carling other larger available with a third missing.... As I can't reply ...I was never offered another table my son was which I didn't no ...and that still leaves me with time 12.50 and table reserved for 2 pm ...which I thought we could watch first half..ur customer sits in my seat as I get up u think this is OK Ur customer was rude which I told him this people heard what I said ... I also heard a footy fan Sunday was swearing inftont of kids and u let this go .. Atleast u took time to reply instead of a box standard copy and paste reply... Looking forward to ur reply .. ..

Disappointed I had the cauliflower wings house salad. Only 4 small cauliflower wings , no red pepper , dressing or crispy onions . Tasted OK but not Great. No one came to ask if OK as I would have told them. Not sure will come back 😕

New manager has a terrible attitude I see his reply to people's complaints is a box standard reply..hardly going out of his way to reply to different complaints with any time care or thought

1 hour wait food cold sent back spoilt mothers day a bit but was with my family alway enjoy kids food ok but adults roast wasn't had 4 puds as compensation think they were short staffed hence 3* they use to be very good .

Stopped here to make a change from motorway services. What a brilliant decision, staff were great and food was perfectly cooked and tasted fantastic. Will definelty be stopping again.

As a Chef myself, I was so disappointed with the roast dinner that was served to me. Roast potatoes were mush, Turkey was dry, red cabbage was steamed and gray was runny and tasteless. Would not recommend and won't be back. Sunday roast, only had 2 choices.

Booked a table for 5 for mothers day and we had to move as there were on 4 seats. So bad start to the day. Ordered food and drinks which were fine, this is when the problems started. The starters came out and then my daughters order was wrong so had to send back and get changed. It eventually arrived after everyone else had finished starters. Then the mains took 2 hours to come out after requesting where they were, mums meal was sea bass and the spaghetti was in one big lump, the 2 gammons were burnt on one side and the one should of had fries and not chips and that was wrong. My meal had cold fries and and my wife's chicken was tough to cook. We didn't complain whilst eating as we were hungry and already had too wait 2 hours. When i did complain at the end of the meal I was informed they would speak to the chef. No offer of compensation, round of drinks or anything. Very disappointed and it ruined Mothers day for my mum and my wife. Will not be going back in a hurry.

Didn’t have a good experience with Mothering Sunday meal here and not coming again. We booked a table of 4 for 2pm. Arrived at 1:40pm, sat down quickly, ordered food but took an hour for food to come out. The waiter delivered foods and wanted to get away asap. We told him that the mega mixed grill was cold and looked like it’s been sat under the lamp for a while, then we got given a choice of waiting even longer as kitchen really busy or heated the plate up. We chose to have it heated up as we were hungry but not paying £21 for it. Then we couldn’t eat it anyway as it was pretty disgusting. Three roast dinners were luke warm, we asked for extra gravy from 3 staff, as they were really dry but the gravy never came. Stuffings were hard and chewy. Next table ate half their foods and left too. We gave most of our meats to our dog. No point advertising for Mother’s Day Weekend meal deal with beautiful leaflet if your kitchen can’t cope or short of staff. Although the mixed grill and drinks were taken off the bill, it just ruined our celebration.

Family of 4 - two adults and 2 kids visited around 1-2pm on a Sunday. Great service and very welcoming from the beginning- we ordered food (not Sunday roast) and it was served in super quick time taking approx 10 minutes. The food was really well cook it was a nice environment and they even had board games for families which was ace. All in all a really nice place, reasonable price and would have no hesitation to visit again. Many thanks!

4/2/24. Had roast beef Sunday dinner, the beef was so grisly I had trouble cutting it with a knife and chewing it. Halfway through chewing it had to take it out of my mouth and put on side of plate. I have all my own teeth. Other members in our party had the same problem, they also have their own teeth.

AWFUL! AVOID!!!! Where do I start... we ordered our food all fine. Our food arrived and 9 out of 10 meals had something wrong. The chicken burger was drier than dry! My 2 years old waffles were burnt . My onions I could tap on a table and hear knocking they were so overcooked! Food was missing. The burger buns were rock solid. We were waiting for a check back to see how food was and it didn't happen. We went over to the bar and asked to speak to the manager. AMY then called LAUREN ( deputy manager) her response was , what do they want ! We then told them all our problems as we have spent well over £100 to be told well due to policy we can cook it again but can't give you money back ! For 1 we had young children who will not sit down much longer and 2. I will never been eating there again . LAUREN and AMY were so so rude. I am not one to complain as I've worked in restaurants before but honestly the food was so poor and handled so wrong. I will be back to speak to another manager and she cannot have that title. She is awful. There was no check back because in her words ' well there is only 2 of us' that really isn't my problem and good job I'm not a mystery shopper as they would be shut down! I work hard for my money and take my family out to be treated and this is our experience. Absolutely awful
