Daughter ordered chicken goujons. They were totally inedible and slightly embarrassed that the chef thought acceptable to serve. Oily, dark batter that wasn’t actually attached to the chicken. Even more embarrassed for the waiter who had to serve it. Food all around very poor. Don’t go.

Staff didn't seem bothered, our booked table wasn't ready when we arrived, they didn't actually have the food we ordered, but instead of telling us this they made us wait 1.5 hours until we asked, then made us wait another 0.5 hour. They offered a free round of drink to apologies, I was the designtated driver, so didn't care for this, but I'll let you decide whether that is appropriate compensation. Annoyingly the food was great, I just wouldn't go again unless they sacked and replaced all the staff from that evening.

So disappointed with this place, and one of only two pubs in Cromford (both owned by the same owners) They had run out of draft beer at 7pm on a Saturday night (seriously!) then they ran out of bottled beers half an hour later! Their excuse was “we didn’t expect it to be so busy”. We ordered two pizzas as we could see the pizza oven on display at the end of the bar. Whilst the pizza base was quite nice being done in a proper pizza oven, the ingredients for the toppings was cheap supermarket quality, and the cheese was so think on top it was inedible. It was as if one of the bar staff had just chucked it together and shoved it in the pizza oven. So disappointing. And with both the Greyhound and the Boat being owned by the same people, it will only get worse. No competition low quality. Such a shame for Cromford as it needs a good pub with good grub. Won’t be back.

Went for lunch and was fitted in on a busy Sunday. We had a Sunday dinner which was nice all around. The food came out extremely quick and was hot enough. Nice environment and friendly staff. 3 roasts and 3 drinks came to £60 or there abouts. Accessibility, the pub is accessible on the same level, one entrance has steps but the other is flat. The disabled toilet however needs some tlc. It was dirty, the toilet roll holder was broken and just left on the floor, and the alarm chord was up in a place that when you sit on the loo it's in your face, and in my experience it got tangled in my hair! I couldn't release the chord so it would be where it should be close to the floor, as they have tied it up near the ceiling. So just be warned, they don't take things like this seriously.

We stopped in for tea yesterday evening (26 Feb) with our dog and kids (9&6). Lovely feel as you walk in, warm welcome and helpful staff. Food was fantastic. Our son was asking for sausage and mash which was on the main but not kids menu. I asked if they could do a small portion which was catered to without issue. Food was amazing, don’t think I’ve ever seen a pie so chunky or chips so chunky! The pork and apple burger disappeared in no time! Deserts were enormous, I had the crumble with custard, which was lumpy in all the best ways. Great food and service. Highly recommend. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The logistics and systems here are doing the food a dis-service. Emailed to book a table through the website, after several days, we heard nothing .Had to call them to get the booking sorted, which was fumbled through. Then one day before, we got a call to say they can't have us at 8pm as they stop serving at 7.45pm, unsure why they didn't realise this when we booked. Arrived early to a mostly empty pub, instead of being put in the front area where there are nice tables, for some reason we were put at the very back opposite the loud buzzing fridge, ruining the occasion of any atmosphere. Menus presented, no starters listed. Asked why no starters, were told that there is only soup, but would check with chef. Guy comes back...there is no soup or starters. Ordered mains, and have to say there were superb. Generous portions and top notch. However, no one came over to ask if everything was ok. No dessert menu issued, we weren't asked if we wanted a dessert, or coffee, or any other drinks, or the bill. If we had known that only one course was on offer, we would have gone elsewhere as it was for a special occasion. For dessert instead I had a cocktail.... At last I found somewhere serving Singapore Slings! And it was nothing short of amazing with 4 cherries in it too! It's so frustrating that this place which is doing such great food and cocktails is letting itself down in being totally clueless on how to be run properly, and can't give customers a better experience. It all felt so odd and off. Please sort it out... I want to come back!

My friends & I -plus 1 dog- had been for a walk & were ravenous. We were incredibly lucky to get a table for 5 on such short notice. The staff were very welcoming as was the atmosphere in the pub. The tables & cutlery were all very clean. The Sunday dinner we had was proper 'home made', no cheap pub grub. There was plenty of food on our plates to keep us going for the rest of the day. My only dislike (& my friends) was the nut roast our dinners. It was 😖 awful. The taste was bland & the texture vile and where were the nuts? Please take it off your menu. Some stuffing with a few nuts thrown in would have been better. Another veggie friend had a spicy bean burger which she really enjoyed. The meat eaters were very happy with their pile of gammon. The Yorkshire puddings were divine but more gravy Please. 😋

Just finished lunch at the Greyhound which was awful. We booked a table for a group of 17 and had to pre order. We arrived on time, our food came out promptly but it was cold - cold plates, cold meat, cold potatoes, cold carrots and parsnips and warm gravy. Out of our group I think up to 12, could have been more, had to send our plates back. The additional greens came out, lukewarm, but right most people were at the end of the meal already. The Yorkshire puddings were disgusting, photo included below. I feel sorry for the young staff serving us, they were apologetic and embarrassed but I don’t think we got an apology from the manager who then took over trying get our reheated plates back to us. For a £19 roast lamb, I expected more. The venue has a fire place but it wasn’t lit which could’ve made the place feel more cosy. I would not recommend visiting this venue which is a shame as it has a prime position in Cromford.

The tables were clean and the baby change was clean too which is rare! The gentleman who was behind the bar was very accommodating and attentive. It really struck us both how nice it was to have real service when so many places will leave you chasing them for orders, clearing tables or the bill. He was lovely. The food was delicious - hand made steak and ale pie, hand cut chips and garden peas. The rest of the menu looked tasty too. Easy walking distance from Cromford Mills, this pub has an excellent menu and serves food all day. We arrived early afternoon for a late lunch, were greeted promptly at the bar, bought drinks on a tab, given menus, advised about table service and allowed to pick our own table – all simple things but so often ignored or badly performed. We tried the steak from the fixed price lunch menu and pie of the day from the main lunch menu. Both were excellent as was the service throughout our stay. We even left a tip – not common for travellers from Australia on a budget. Recommended.

We decided to eat at the Greyhound after visiting the Cromford Mill and learning about the history of the Greyhound Hotel which was built by Sir Richard Arkwright as a place for his guests to stay in the 18th Century. It was early evening so the restaurant was not too busy. We had choice of areas to eat and chose the dining room. The menu had a good variety and I chose the Steak and Ale pie. My husband had the chicken curry. Both were that day's specials. The portions were excellent and the pie was one of the best I have had - the pastry just melted as you ate. The staff were friendly and helpful. All in all a lovely meal!

We were staying in the area and were recommended this pub for a meal. We had been for a drink the day before. No table service at all (which is strange as the pub wasn’t that busy), and had to queue at the bar for a long time. I think the only time I have ever queued that long and had such slow service is at an extremely crowded bar in London. The young servers behind the bar clearly did not want to be there, serve anyone and we actually found them dismissive and quite rude. The roast was a waste of money in my opinion. The meat speaks for itself (this was the lamb shoulder - various people commented on the style of this. It looked and tasted like something out of a tin). We asked the waitress what this was, and she sort of laughed and went in to ask the chef. We still don’t quite know what it was. The vegetables honestly felt like they were microwaved from a packet. I am not a gravy person but had to pour it all over my plate to get any flavour. The general dinner menu looks really good, so maybe this would have been a better option (maybe this isn’t a roast place!) but I did find the whole ordeal a bit bland and cold.

I visited yesterday evening with friends. There was a good choice on the menu. The very young staff members were working very hard without support from older management. There had been two events on in the town and we think additional staff should have been factored in. Unfortunately, two thirds of our order was forgotten so the people who ordered burgers received and ate their meal before the pizzas arrived. Then one of our pizzas was sent to the wrong table. Due to having to leave we cancelled that pizza and asked for a refund. The “lady” who gave us a refund was extremely rude and did not apologise for the mix up or offer any compensation. The young lads who had been very apologetic for the mistake they had made apologised again as we left whereas the “lady” ignored us. The food was excellent and the service of the younger staff was also very good. It’s a shame your more mature member of staff let the whole experience down.

Only live ten minutes away so thought we would go and check out The Greyhound as had seen it was under new management. Came with the intention of a few drinks and ordering food. Just my opinion but… walked in and were met with children in the bar area at 6pm. These were not seated eating, just wondering around and calling out for parents. Now this is just not for me, I am not a fan of children in a bar area when there are other places they could be sat out of the way. We ordered drinks at the bar, no issues there though my wine could have been better chilled but we were not asked if we would like to see a menu to try to up sell food. Salt, pepper and vinegar on the tables but no menus on there? Perhaps there was no food available or they were fully booked for food? Unlikely though as only half a dozen people in there during our visit. We chose to sit where we have sat for years, where the Chesterfield sofas are located but I have to say the absolutely huge tv on the wall, a discarded pushchair and a broken wingback chair in the corner just made me feel a little bit sad. I fully understand the new management taking the opportunity to get customers in by showing sport especially now there is no Bell just up the hill who used to provide this. But… no music to create any atmosphere or cover the noise of children, just men on the tv programme talking about the golf?? Can’t the tv screen be on but only with sound when relevant? Bar staff or manage t need to read the room in these situations. So we didn’t stay to eat, just had one drink and drive up the hill to Wirksworth instead to another one of our ‘local pubs’ will give it a couple of months before we bother again. It’s a shame really as I love the building and where the pub is and over the years have enjoyed some great food here but there was no atmosphere or welcome here which is a shame.

The lights in both rooms didn’t work from about 11.30p.m, our friends wasn’t able to shower as there was no window in their bathroom. Breakfast was ok except not offered more coffee as only one cup. Tea we had a pot so did get two cups. We did tell a member of staff about the lights he said they keep tripping & waiting an electrician.

Decided to come here for Friday night dinner as I wasn’t in the mood the cook & I know it has recently changed hands so I was curious. It’s such a wonderful building with great history and deserves to be enjoyed. Inside looked very similar with the addition of the huge flat screen for sports they are now showing. It had more of a pub feel than before. It is a big space & in my opinion lacks atmosphere…maybe not when the football is on. Upon arrival, I advised I booked a table for two & was then pointed to a couple of different areas & told to choose a table, we were brought menus & told to order at the bar. I ordered the jerk chicken burger & my partner ordered the Cromford burger, I ordered half a bass & some water, he a glass of red. It was a good bass but no water. Our food didn’t take long to arrive & looked ok, the coleslaw was very mayo -y which I’m not a huge fan of so didn’t eat much. I stole an onion ring off my partner as they looked awesome & tasted great great., the chips were good and burger buns. The sauce in my burger was nice but I didn’t get any jerk seasoning on my chicken. It was almost a plain chicken breast cooked & plonked into the bun. I took it out & shredded it but there was no real flavour sadly so I tried to add the sauce to it. My partner said his burger was good but as the mushroom was grilled (I assume as it held water) as soon as he bit into it, it just oozed water, which wasn’t pleasant in a bun. The onion rings were amazing, the burger was a little over done but good quality. Food was ok, as was the service, a bit mixed & inconsistent across the staff members. I am local so will return.

Slightly apprehensive to eat here as the female bar staff seem so new and unprepared/inexperienced (not a criticism - we were aware the restaurant hadnt long reopened). However, the bar accepted us as a late entrance for food (7.30 arrival). Given until 7.45 to order, which was ample time. We saw some delicious food served to other tables whilst we waited. We decided on the burgers. They were cooked to perfection. Homemade coleslaw, chunky chips and sweet potato fries were the same standard. Definitely recommend eating here.

I understand that this venue is under new managment so I feel that I need to be both constructive but also point out whats going very wrong here.My family of 4 booked for dinner - were seated and drinks and order taken. Our meals arrived and I can only say that the lasange was burnt to a crisp.Black in fact, the chicken and chirizo was very overcooked and a mass of cheese was used on the pizza. My scampi was hot but the chips and mushy peas were stone cold. Going back to the lasange. I asked for the top to be removed and was told it was being re-cooked. OK the other 3 start our mediocre food. The lasange never arrives. 2 our party have to leave as we had tickets to an event nearby. 2 stayed. We sit for over 25 mins with on one coming over to see us then the waitress/manager (not really sure what her role was). She asked has it not arrived?- obviously not. By this time as you can imagine I was getting quite annoyed. 2 things....1. Everyone understands that things can and do go wrong but please keep your customers informed (this saves alot of stress on both sides) and 2. If you are just starting a new venture slim it right back and make sure you can deliver what you are actually selling and ensure that product is of a very high standard as your prices are not cheap. Also just not charging us for a meal which never arrived is very poor customer service.Reverse the roles and think again what might have been acceptable to you. £64 is not great value for rubbish food and very sub standard service.By the way my daugther left without a meal and I have to go back home to make her a sandwich before we joined our family. Not the lovely evening meal we had planned.Maybe just keep this to a bar only.Sadly the worse place I have ever been.

This hotel bar and ", restaurant" took a booking without information which included no food. Not even breakfast and charged 190 for just bed , one person two nights . I was the only guest staying because our boiler had broken down and I needed a warm room and a bath. I was the only guest. Only told no food when I arrived . Was told the heating had been put on in the room half an hour beforehand. I seriously doubted this it was cold. No hot water from the bath taps, had to put clothes back on and go downstairs to be shown I had to run the hot tap first in the sink. Excuse "this is an old property". The general shabbiness of the carpets and decor gave that away. Door to my "upgraded" room wouldn't close (door hinges), In the end it was so bad I checked out the same evening - this was met with "so what have you used in the room?" (Does it matter, they were getting paid for full use of it- I explained I'd only used the bathroom. The proprietor despite having been fully paid appeared most put out that I was leaving almost immediately.. I felt uncomfortable by his attitude and made excuses, said nothing wrong with the room (there was) but I just wanted to get out of there In my opinion the reviews I saw near such little resemblance to my experience I question their sources. I'm writing this to seriously dissuade anyone from staying here - it's expensive to the point of feeling ripped off really.

We didn't stay here, we came here for lunch and excitedly ordered two of the Warm Butternut Squash, Toasted Seeds & Quinoa Salads. We asked how large the small and large versions were and told the small was starter size so we went for the large at £14.00 for a main meal. Unfortunately, what came resembled a starter. There must have been minimal preparation for this in the kitchen. About half a dozen cm square pieces of Butternut Squash pan fried, about a table spoon of Quinoa and I was lucky if I found three toasted pine nuts in there, all on top of a straight out of the bag loose leaf salad with half of a loosely chopped baby gem underneath. As a vegetarian I really hate paying prices similar to those of a fully cooked meat dish but the quantity, quality and amount of work gone into the meal is minimal and very poor. Certainly not worth £14 each for a small and poor salad. My wife wouldn't let me say anything at the time as there were people on a nearby table. When we left we had to pop across the road for a snack to eat! Doubt we will choose here again for lunch.

Only had a coffee, so I can't comment on the food. Coffee was good considering it wasn't barista made. £3 for an Americano with milk is a pretty standard price these days. The lady that served me was pleasant and friendly. Shame that people were smoking in/around the outside seating area. I was planning on taking a seat to enjoy the view, but I didn't fancy the secondhand smoke, but that's a personal preference for me. I'm not a smoker and had my 9 week old son with me.

Can only comment on the food and crowd as I dropped in for some rest, while trekking through Grindleford, but a lovely experience nonetheless. The Indonesian menu was an authentic treat and nice surprise (certainly did not expect that in the Peak District) and the family running the place were marvellous. The vegetarian green curry had a lovely kick and does not have you missing meat whatsoever, such is the excellence of the flavours on show. Add to the experience, some brilliant views of the tiny village and my first Guinness being drunk with a local called Jamie. Note: there is not really anywhere else to go for a food stop in Grindleford, due to location constraints but the hospital and views provided more than make up for it. I’ve heard the place aren’t in the best financial position so please do drop in if passing by.
