Called in for lunch after a bank holiday walk on the common. Pub was not too crowded and we were served at the bar quickly. Two local real ales, both good and well-kept. Food took a short while to arrive while we waited in the sunny garden. My cheddar ploughman's was generous and fresh- how great to get a ploughman's as these seem to have fallen from favour. My wife had a special; prawn, avocado and cream cheese baguette and chips. Again very tasty and generous. We struggled to finish our meals! The only small quibble was the indifference of the bar staff. On arrival we were not "greeted" and indeed the 2 barmen were carrying on a private conversation all the time they were pouring our beers. Efficient, yes, but somewhat lacking in enthusiasm and/or professionalism. Aside from that we would strongly recommend this large semi-rural pub for a good lunch. Value for money too.

Went for lunch and the food was excellent. Service was good until a few more people arrived and then we seemed to be forgotten for a while. If you don't have a dog with you then you are in the minority as the place is all about canine companians and their associated noises and smells. The entrance could do with a little love. Cigarette ends on the floor and advertising boards and a parasol stacked to one side. Personally I would sweep up the litter and store items elsewhere just to make the place look tidy and cared for. I think if the management went outside and approached the main door and tried to view what they see through the eyes of a customer they might get my point. Not complaining just trying to help by pointing out where improvements could be made.

If you go for a festive meal it can sometimes be over priced and not very good. This was definitely not the case. The meal was amazing. Very generous portions. Very tasty. Reasonably priced. No rush for us to vacate the table. Friendly staff. We took the dog with us as the pub is very dog friendly. I can’t recommend this place enough. We eat there various times throughout the year and it’s always excellent.

We had a late lunch here during the week. The staff were friendly and helpful in the face of confusing customers like me who read a "w" meaning with (chips) as a "v" and thought it was a veggie pie. it would be great if there was a veggie pie on the menu. There were good portion sizes for the food we had, which included ham and eggs, a salad and a cream of mushroom pasta. A review below says that the pub is not dog friendly. It is now. It is quite a big pub with plenty of space for dogs. Also they have a raised area where dogs are not permitted, which I think is good for people who might be nervous of dogs, so I think that's very good. I was too full after the pasta to have the rhubarb crumble. The landlady kindly offered to give me want to take away. I declined as I really was very full, but the next time I am in that neck of the woods, and I will have a cup of tea and a rhubarb crumble which comes with either custard or ice cream. I will also give them a double tip as I thought that service was included in the bill, but a closer examination of the receipt with my glasses on showed that it was not.

We revisited the pub for food as had previously had a lovely experience there. Pub wasn’t busy as it was after the lunch hour rush but we waited over an hour for our food. Tables that arrived after us were served their food before us. Food wasn’t as enjoyable as last time. Service charge is included and it should be optional. It’s a treat for us to go out as a family for a meal so this was a disappointing experience and one we won’t go back and try again.

10 of us went for dinner to say farewell to some Australian relatives returning after a visit. Pub was obviously quiet as it was straight after NewYear. The service was very good and the meals we had were excellent. A particular hit were the chicken burgers ( bacon was wonderful) and the Mac and cheese special. Despite generous portions most managed very good ice cream …. Including the dog who had their own ‘doggie’ ice cream. Would certainly recommend and will definitely be returning

Stopped after a walk for drinks & lunch. Had a drink at the bar then sat down for lunch in the pub area. We had 2 ploughman lunches at £13.00 each, no apple or nuts, could have asked if we had any food allergies… it’s the little things! Prob not worth the money. Also ordered at the bar 3 drinks, the bar man insisted he’d bring them over. Paid on the way out then left, was over charged for 7 pints plus a service charge, which I’ve never had in a pub… for drinks to be bought over before. Had to go back to get refund.. disappointed… we’ll find another walk next time.

A huuuuuge thank you to Nick and Janet for hosting my group today. I cannot express how grateful I am for how accommodating you were to us! For context, I work as a Neurodiversity / Disability Support Tutor at a London university, and today marked the very first event in an extra-curricular / holistic support programme I have set up for students who have engaged with our services, a guided day hike. Only 2 students out of 10 were known to me before today, and they did not know each other either. This was a first visit to the countryside for several of them, a first visit to a pub for one attendee, and several also experience anxiety (both as a condition, and as a symptom of other conditions), so I phoned yesterday to explain the situation. Nick was so understanding, and both he and Janet were super-welcoming today, really going above and beyond to make my group feel comfortable and support my role as organiser. To witness the group visibly gaining confidence in front of me as a result genuinely makes my heart swell! The food was also EXCEPTIONAL. Very generous portions and a perfect opportunity for our international students to sample British pub classics. Despite nearly getting food envy at the sight of the perfectly cooked (and massive!) fish and chips, my home-made pie was equally delicious and great comfort food! The garden was also very well-kept (beautiful in the sunshine!) and equipped with lots of things to keep children entertained. Not only do I intend to return with other groups of students, this is also firmly on my list of places to bring my family when visiting me (including two young nephews who mean the world to me!). Thank you again for your significant contribution to making today such a success, I really, really appreciate it!

Welcoming and friendly staff. 6 of us for Sunday lunch, 3 roasts, 2 scampi and one battered fish. All very good, loads of meat on the roast, plenty of vegetables too - although one of our group does not like cauliflower cheese which in other places has come as an option, so he was a little disappointed. Roast potatoes not as crispy as would have liked, but often the way with mass catering - but all in all a good meal. Extra gravy supplied on request. Fish dishes were also good. Desserts great - big portions too. Beer connoisseur - recommends 'Landlord'. Took a dog who was made very welcome and loved the doggy sausage! Will definitely go again.

We have eaten here many times and the food has generally been pretty average, if not poor but we kept coming back as it is the only pub in Keston with a lovely playground at the back. Sadly the food has steadily gotten worse and after eating here Sunday before last, we will not go back. The quality of both drinks and food was so low, we would normally have let the food go back but we were starving after a long wait. The shandy tasted horrible and was flat, the "orange juice" turned out to be squash and the food was by a mile the worst meal we had in years: Kids fish fingers were the cheapest freezer stuff, the fish and chips tasteless, peas cheapest freezer peas and the pie and mash unspeakable: The pie was so salty, it was barely edible and the mash was a badly mashed watery mass, the gravy straight from the pack. They ought to sack that 'chef' if they don't want to lose all their weekend customers!

This is a great local pub, the staff are always quick to serve and very friendly but we think there is an issue with groups of young lads spoiling the family, country style atmosphere of this pub, there is a clear sign sayin over 21’s but this doesn’t seem to be working or inforced, at the weekend we saw big groups of well below 21’s behaving really badly, leaving beer glasses on the floor with no care for anyone else. I would hate this pub to become a place to avoid whenever there a game on, we all like a good time but there needs to be some boundaries if it wants to remain a family local

A Saturday afternoon visit to The Greyhound, picked at random from a few pubs in the area, proved enjoyable for the lively atmosphere, nice drinks & friendly staff but let down by the bland meals. Very much a local community venue with regular events, pub games, local walks etc it also caters for sports fans with Sky & BT sports.Regular and guest real ales (Youngs on handpumps) plus usual array of lagers on the long L-shaped bar.Food menu (including the standard 'Specials' chalkboard) looked & sounded encouraging with wide-ranging familiar pub grub.We had the 'New Yorker burger & ploughmans off the special (plus peanut butter cheesecake for desert) but felt totally underwhelmed by the blandness of it all. Edible and ok but presented with very little style and over-priced for average pub food. Saw other meals being served (all-day breakfasts, pies, steak etc) and all looked bit lifeless. Hooefully our impressions were a one-off but we won't be returning for food. Will definitely return just for socialising drinks.

An attraction of the Greyhound is the play area for children. It's a nice, astro-turfed playground where they can safely play. For some reason though management ignores the patio area where people sit and eat. The wooden tables are old and filthy. The table closest to the play areas is covered in bird excrement. The patio is full of leaves and weeds and never swept. With just a little effort, this could be much improved.

She helped us to set up the tables, and found a portable speaker for our music, then left us to it until dinner time. The food was beautiful and so well priced for the servings. I had lamb, which was six (!!) cutlets plus sides for £10.95, others got two large pieces of steak with their meals and the burgers and fish and chips looked delicious. The tea rooms open onto a safe, large and well-lit kids play area which was perfect for all the under 5s.We had a grand-ol' time and it didn't break the bank. Thanks so much to all the bar and wait staff. Nothing was too much trouble.

We came back to this pub as the new web site infered new changes but little has actually changed. There is not a problem with the food, the choice with specials on the day is good and varied, and dishes are well prepared and tasty. The problem as with quite a few other independent/smaller brewery outlets is the price of drinks.I know there are overheads and operating costs, but you can actually market drink prices skillfully and sensibly which would still always bring a profit to the seller.Point in question, is the cheapest bottle of wine is presently £16, give or take 5p.Add for example just 2 chicken caesar salads and you've spent nearly £40!Surely the wine supplier can provide a house wine, maybe inferior in quality but actually very acceptable to many of the customers in these difficult times. If lunch times prove to be a less busy period for the pub then certainly its not unreasonable to attract more business with keener alcohol prices and lunchtime incentives.Maybe thats not what the pub would consider and not the way they want to run things but they after all a business, and a business needs to make profit, with so many pubs closing each week, so in summary, I say really good place for the food but still too expensive on drinks, they need to introduce a house wine, and that could be the spratt that catches the mackerel, and overall they will exceed their expectations!

This is a local pub for us and we had not visited for a while due to poor local opinion. I decided to give it a go recently as it has a play area and I was looking after my grandaughter. On arrival in the beer garden you are greeted by a rather grubby seating area and the area outside the 'Tea Rooms' was mucky and needed a good clear out. We ordered food and as they didn't have my first choice I went for nachos. Big mistake! - they arrived looking like they had been cooked hours before with congealed cheese on top and a horrible cheap bottled chilli tomato sauce - inedible. My son opted for fish finger sandwich which was served with lukewarm rubbery chips. Very disappointing and did not merit a return visit even though my grand daughter enjoyed the play area. I try to use local restaurants and pubs as much as possible but this one is off the list1

As a big family group, we decided to meet up here after being here before. The general staff, food and drink was all good. However, the lady who I believe was the manager had absolutely no customer focus skills whatsoever. Spoke very patronisingly all evening and seemed she absolutely hated her job. Tip.... don't take your bad day out on customers, especially when it's a large party of people that meet up frequently throughout the year. Shall be going elsewhere next time!Oh and don't be so upset when a customer politely informs you that the loo rolls have run out!I can see now why the pub wasn't particularly busy on a Friday evening now! Such a shame.

Visited the Greyhound last week with 3 friends to watch the football. The tables were placed in good places to be able to see the TV screens around the pub. The drinks we found very reasonably priced. The menu was very big, which I always feel a slightly smaller menu is better for a pub but there was a great choice of stuff. All, again, very reasonably priced. My lasagne was lovely and a really big portion for only £10.95. My boyfriends chicken burger looked a little disappointing. The staff were all very attentive and polite. Will definitely be returning.

I visited today for lunch as a guest of friends & with my elderly father. We have been on several occasions before & had good service & nice food but today was a sore disappointment. I ordered the fish pie & what I got was a dish of mash with cheese on top. I genuinely don't think there was any fish in there at all! One friend had the 'Mixed fish salad' which was described on the menu as smoked salmon, tuna mayonnaise and prawns. There was no smoked salmon on his plate. My other friend ordered a steak & caramelised onion sandwich, she got a steak sandwich with onion chutney. I didn't recognise the staff at all & don't know if they are new or that it's just not my normal day there but I won't be hurrying back.Really difficult as I was a guest & didn't want to embarrass my hosts.

We met a friend at the Greyhound the weekend before last. The prices were not bad and we found the food was excellent. Great steak and kidney pie and burgers. Amazing cheese board on request that fed all three of us. The only thing that let us down was that the waitress was not tentative and we had to summons her every time we wanted to order a course or a drink. The food is much better than the pub across the road though!

We have been coming to the Greyhound for the past 4 years after a chance visit one Sunday for some lunch with friends. As we hadn't booked I didn't hold out much hope seeing as there were 18 of us with the kids! I was right, without a booking I was looked at as if I was mad! But rather than laugh me out of the pub the manager offered us the tea rooms in the garden. She turned the heating on and set up the tables and voila we had our own VIP area! We were so impressed we have come back every year for our Christmas get together with the kids, 22 of us in total. This year two of our good friends were getting married so we decided to surprise them with a stag/hen theme. This was made all the more special as Dave, Toni and the team dressed the room for us in silver even setting a top table for the bride and groom which was very much appreciated, thank you!Every year they look after us, the team are great and the food always tasty, hot and everyone leaves a clean plate including the kids, ticking all the boxes. You can see why the pub is popular, Toni and Dave at the helm make sure everyone is looked after and we always leave with a smile and full belly. See you again next year guys!

This is a great pub, authentic, welcoming and brilliantly operated. A delight to visit. The food is pubgrub and what you see is what you get. Great for families, the common is opposite, so a good outlook and there's a swish restaurant next door which is good for people watching.

We had already tried this Pub for a lunch previously. The chicken had to be returned as it had gone off. We thought we would give it the benefit of the doubt and try again but unfortunately things have not improved. The butternut squash was hard and the bread of my friend's sandwich was very stale and one half of it was a crust! Shame as the pub has the potential to be very nice.I won't be visiting again.

Forget the George and bypass the new inn and come to a pub with a bit of character & soul as this is the best pub in the area. Great food and plenty of charm and an honest character of a landlord who along with his St Bernard dog are you publican version of turner & hooch..so forget your modern soulless Art Deco wine bars and pop down and try real traditional English pub. You won't be disappointed....

I visited The Greyhound with a friend for Sunday lunch. Despite being very busy we didn't wait long for our food and were seated immediately, served drinks, and kept up to date of waiting time by the very helpful waitress. We both had Sunday roast and it was nicely cooked with ample portions. We paid £26 between us for 2 mains and 2 drinks which was good value especially as food was waitress served not carvery. Atmosphere was very friendly and pub overlooks Keston Common in lovely green surroundings. Will certainly go back again.

This is a good pub in good location. Food is great but wish variety was better or varied a bit more often. But the food that's served is great and cooked well. One down side is the tv personality on and could do without it. Specially as each time I've been in no one is watching or listening to it, but all you see is this large tv and hear it. Good staff, some better than offers. Younger staff follow your elders

This makes a very convenient lunchtime stop if you've done a country walk in the area. It offers a good range of traditional pub fare at reasonable prices with some more interesting options too, like the stuffed chicken and the farmer's bake that my companions ordered. It's all done with friendly service. It has almost always been busy when we've been, especially school holidays. There is a heated outdoor area and plenty of outdoor seating.

Oh my goodness, what has happened to this fish bar?? Used to go there every Friday before I moved away from Biggin Hill, but what a shock I had last Friday getting fish & chips for my elderly mother. Slow service with miserable faces, very dirty uniforms being worn by the staff, hair not tied back fully on one of the girls serving. Also, a very young boy helping behind the counter, which surely must be a Health & Safety concern with all the boiling fat!!! Safe to say, I won't be returning to Salisbury's Fish Bar, Main Road, Biggin Hill again :0(

The main dining area was so noisy that we left straight after our main course. Couldn't hear friend sitting opposite and my hearing is good. Will only eat in bar area if we go again.

We went to Toby Carvery in Bromley today, and we had our breakfast buffet. We were served by the staff named Lynn, who was very friendly and always had a good smile for us. She made sure that everything was taken good care of when it came to our needs. So, while having breakfast, she always checked if everything was okay. We would definitely come back because of the good service. But just a little feedback on Toby Carvery Bromley: in one of their toilet facilities, the toilet room is FREEZING cold. As a loyal customers , we weren’t comfortable using the toilet that is freezing cold. I think a lot of things could have been done to improve this toilet so that customers will be comfortable using it during the winter time.
