What a treat to call into a pub for lunch without tumble weed. A well stocked and well supported pub. The menu can be picked up and ordered from the bar. Hearty fayre. We enjoyed a Sri Lanka curry as well as a beef and Stilton pie. Both were delicious. The pub also seems well supported by locals who met in there for a catch up. Dogs seem welcome. Car park round the back. Welcoming atmosphere, would definitely go again

wow, what a great pub ! All staff & locals so friendly. We called in for Dinner on a Friday night whilst staying in a near by village with no pub. Rang ahead & asked to book a table & if we could bring our dog, nothing from this moment on was too much trouble for the owners. Good pub grub, not fine dining, but tasty, piping hot, top service, fast service, great beer, what more can you want ? So nice to see a village pub being supported Well done, next time we come up , we will be back. Thanks

Wandered in looking for an evening meal on 22/09/2023 as we were in self-catering accommodation. It was incredibly busy which I find unusual nowadays for a community pub. However the bar staff were friendly and helpful so we came back at teatime for food to find they had reserved us a table just in case we came back. How wonderful is this? So we 4 had a pub meal which was fine and a couple of drinks. The food servers were good as was the service. We only ate here once but came back every night for a drink until our short holiday was over. We all felt like we were recognised after our first visit and that made our experience even better. Lovely pub with lovely staff.

Facebook describes it as a "community pub" it is not, it is part of the Star Group/ Heineken conglomerate so expect high drinks prices. The food is mainly factory produced but thankfully is not described as "home cooked".The staff are good but the management have a tendency to serve the first face in front of them if they appear behind the bar. Overall the change of tenancy is a disappointment.

Headed from York to The Greyhound in Riccall (it's a lot closer than I thought!) with mates for Wednesday night Rock n Roll Bingo. Had an absolute blast! The pub has recently been taken on by a new Landlord and Landlady (Sam & Jay) who couldn't have been more welcoming. The beer is perfectly conditioned, food was tasty & fresh and the service was proper friendly. Music Bingo was a right good laugh (Jay has an amazing microphine voice!) and we even won a drink and some chocolates. The new make over is fresh and tasteful and they've done a great job with the spacious, relaxing beer garden. We finished our night with a few games of pool (only 50p!!) and left having mate new friends. The 415 stops nearby - well worth checking out!

Riccall is blessed with having two decent pubs and there’s not much to choose between them. This one has well kept Tetleys and friendly staff. There was live music on at the other one when we were there and for some reason this meant they stopped food at 8.30 despite there only being about 10 people in. The Greyhound wasn’t doing food at all Saturday evening so we went to the very good Italian.

This was ok but...you cannot see the price of the carvery until you are easy at your table. I looked at ratings before going and it looked nice. Also there is no dessert menu and no indication of prices of desserts until the bill comes or unless you ask. The man serving food seemed preoccupied with other work in the kitchen and was absent a lot. The website said all the trimmings..Well there was no stuffing, no crackling and not my first choice of veg..Just roast and this modern thing of unpeeled boiled potatoes, with broccoli, carrots and soggy cabbage. Peas and mash for me but that is choice so have not marked down for that. Did notice that the server seemed to talk locals whilst serving and if you are an outsider the banter is minimal. Just observations but it was OK. Just had better.

Today we visited the Greyhound for a family get together. It started out lovely and the young girl behind the bar was very chatty and welcoming. There was also an OLD woman behind the bar with her, who I could tell just didn't want to be there no smile, no hello no nothing. The food smelt delicious and it tasted just as good as it smelt. The gentleman serving the food was very pleasant and was joking around with the children. After we had finished our food the OLD woman came from behind the bar to help tidy away and she started to show a very obvious dislike to the children so we took them outside to play in the LARGE beer garden to find there was more DOG POO than grass. So we took them back inside to do some colouring and basically just doing what children do (laughing and joking around) they weren't causing any trouble what so ever. The OLD woman began to start making sly comments towards our children and was quite frankly DISGUSTING towards them. We then went to the bar to settle the bill when she obviously was unaware of us been there as she said to another member of staff behind the bar " those bloody kids I can't stand them". Well OLD woman I can't stand you AT ALL and there my kids and nephew/ niece and I don't appreciate you talking about them like that. And further more I suggest you change your occupation of you intend to carry on this obvious dislike towards children. 100% will not be attending again

We went to the greyhound today for a carvery. Can't fault the food it was lovely. However, very obvious from the start that we were not welcome with children. The landlady was initially covertly rude (staring at the children and muttering) and then overtly rude to us about the children being a nuisance. At this point we left. The children were not a nuisance at all an were just being kids. Also nowhere to change a baby which demonstrates further they don't welcome families.

We visited this pub today for a sunday carvey as my father is local and the food is highly thought of. I will start off by saying the food is fantastic and the gentleman who cooks is very nice. Unfortunatly the gentlemans wife/partner is quite the opposite. We went as a family which included four children. This been where the problem lies CHILDREN. Her whole attitude towards us and the kids was unproffesional and rude. The kids were not tearing around the place but did move out of there seats to colour or to play with the odd toy car on floor. Generally how kids are. This lady made it quite obvious she did not want them in there and stared at them constantly. I took the children outside as she made me feel so uncomfortable to go play on the grasssed lawn only to find it was covered in dog poo so back inside it was. She then took her rudeness to a whole new level and shouted at the children to move out of her way. Unfrotunatly it did not end there as a member of my family was stood at the bar to get another round of drinks the lady then said not realising that my family was there "them bloody kids they are doing my head in" (or something to this effect) to which my family member said i beg your pardon. She looked very embarrased but still no apology. We left shortly and we made our feelings known to the gentleman who runs it. I will never visit there again and if they dont want children in they should stop doing "family carverys". Further to this actually go clean up the back lawn so children can "get out of her way!!!" As she clearly wants.

There is always a warm welcome from the Landlord and Landlady and the locals are very warm and friendly. The beer is always spot on and there are a number to choose from. Although I am a lager drinker myself, the locals mostly drink the cask ales and seem to enjoy them. The landlord's interest in sporting events, especially rugby league, give good opportunity for banter around the bar and is normally a good light hearted atmosphere. It's a good old fashioned country pub that is dog friendly. Food is also well received and the fish and chips night on Fridays are not to be missed! But if you want a choice of well-kept beers and stonkingly good fish and chips you won't be disappointed. Look beyond the homeliness and take this place for what it is - a local village pub which caters for its regulars. Our fish and chips this evening were superb - couldn't fault them. The fish was freshly cooked, the batter and chips crisp, and the mushy peas just as they should be - mushy. Make sure you choose a night when Steve, the landlord, is cooking (Friday).
