Lovely country pub. Friendly staff. Had Sunday lunch. Very disappointed. Chicken, broccoli, carrot and swede, roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding straight out of freezer and microwaved. A dollop of smash. Gravy was tasteless. Minimum effort maximum profit.

Had a lovely birthday meal here last night. Great atmosphere and service, food and wine gorgeous! The team made my evening extra special with cake and a candle which was really lovely. I pass more local pubs nearer to me but this is worth the drive out in my opinion.

Obviously this is a pub so you can hear people laughing & chatting downstairs until after last orders - not a problem for us, but if you like to retire early then this might be an issue. The stairs are quite rickety and not suitable for the elderly or infirm. But the bedroom was absolutely gorgeous and very clean. The staff were also really friendly. £95 for a twin room might be a little on the steep side, given the limited breakfast options (toast & cereal only) but I guess with the cost of living going up, it’s inevitable that this will be passed onto the customer. Premier Inns in the same area were coming up at around £140 per night so we did save a fair bit of money by staying here.

Just returned from a 2 night stay. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Made to feel very welcome. Great choice for breakfast. Steve was even kind enough to be our taxi driver and take us to & from a family wedding we were attending.

Called in for a peaceful drink on the way back from visiting friends. One tot of brandy plus one tot of port topped up in a slim half-pint glass with lemonade, plus half a pint of shandy and three bags of those little cheese crisps......£14.05!!!!!!!!!! The barman assured me it was correct because his computer till said so, a case of technology over-riding common-sense. I can buy a large bottle of brandy in Waitrose for £17. Totally shameful and disgraceful pricing. Obviously I didn't bother with food, I didn't want to mortgage my house.

An excellent Sunday lunch, served promptly, piping hot. Three thick slices of tasty turkey, great variety of veg, roast, mash and a big Yorkshire pud, plus lashings of thick gravy all for a bargain £12.50. Side order of pigs in blankets a great add-on.

Very pleasant visit with good food. Visited on a friday evening, prebooked but only 20 mins before we arrived. Staff were very friendly and we had a choice of tables. Pub is traditional with lots of character, and very clean. Menu had a good choice and was reasonably priced, and we enjoyed our meal. Only point of note was that the portion size was not overly generous, so although we left feeling full, if you had a large appetite you possibly may needed a dessert! Overall a lovely meal in a great country pub. 👍

Great pub, called in for refreshment to break our journey, helpful barmaid, knew about the local area. Nice surroundings, all the necessary anti Covid-19 measures in place. Great beer too.

The Exhibition is a grand old pub dating from 1702 that is situated on a very busy junction opposite Bootham Bar in York. As you enter up the steep couple of steps you are greeted by dark and atmospheric front room which is split by the central bar, it's a mish mash of Victorian and Art Deco with every single bit of wall space occupied with old photos, paintings, brasses and other Breweriana. There are wood panels, glowing yellow lighting and rich dark red ceiling which envelops you into the cosy space. There's so much to take in, especially the Art Deco stained glass panels and large fireplace, you'd almost be distracted from the offerings behind the bar. Which are not the most exciting but there's at least usually a couple of beers from Brew York, Black Sheep and Timothy Taylors, all priced at the usual City centre prices. Where The Exhibition really excels is it's outside space, if you follow your way around to the back of the bar and down a fairy light lit corridor it opens out first into a large conservator which is used for group bookings and then out into what is clearly the biggest and best Beer Garden in York! A beautifully secluded long yard with mature plants and great vintage wall art throughout. The only slight let down is the rather Victorian toilets which could probably do with a bit of an update but otherwise this is a very much overlooked pub that is superb in Summer and would be nice and welcoming inside any time of the year.

Long wait for deserts, Biscof cheesecake was awful, very dry and didn't taste like cheesecake, well past its use by date i think, the adults brownie was not much bigger than the kids size, with a big price difference, total waste of money on deserts!

Use to be nice. But I think they've got a new chef because it doesn't taste fresh any more. It tasted like curry from a jar!WILL NOT USE AGAIN sorry 😔
