Booked for Sunday lunch that’s featured on the hotels website. When we arrived the restaurant was empty - the waitress said they don’t serve Sunday lunch and haven’t done since May! We were offered no apologies and won’t be returning.

Very friendly bar man who showed us round and explained the building's history. Stunning art nouveau decor and a delightful afternoon tea.

I dont appreciate being chastised for not bookkng a table in the hotel im staying in, especially when the theres only 4 people in the restaurant. Foods pretty good, though you wait for it. Service is pretty dire, but it's not the waiting staffs fault ...... theres no management representation in the restaurant, ever. No one driving them. No one encouraging them. No one giving them direction. They are just left to their own devices. It shows when they come to the table and they cant wait to get away again before you ask a question they don't know the answer to. The new ops manager seems to float arround the hotel constantly but in 9 weeks staying here I've never seen him provide any guidance to the restaurant team. 20 years managing restaurants ..... I'd love to show how it's done.

Excellent beef, good service although seemed short staffed. Very quiet considering it’s a very good Sunday lunch.

Went here for a big birthday celebration for Sunday lunch as it was recommended by the Yorkshire Good Food guide. Firstly the hotel is beautiful inside but that is where the beauty ends. The food was mediocre at best. My starter was literally a handful of salad leaves with 4 olives in brine tipped on top and a quarter of a pickled artichoke. No dressing. Everyone else had the vegetable soup which needed so much seasoning as it was completely flavourless. For mains, 3 of us had the roast beef and it was ok. No green veg and the parsnips were raw but the beef was tasty. We had two vegetarians in our group and their only option was tomato pasta. Really lazy given it was advertised as a “Sunday Roast” - the pasta was shocking. Overcooked with a bitter tomato sauce and two bits of broccoli plonked on top. Dessert was equally bland - ginger Parkin which was dry as sticks. They had no custard so they offered us ice cream which was a teaspoon full amount, this did nothing to counter the dry dense cake. One person had coffee instead of dessert because of the poor menu choice and it was like a cup of warm milk. Hugely disappointing and explains why the place was empty and why they are having to offer 3 course menu deals to temp folk in. Finally 2 of our party had nut allergies and no one checked, and more importantly no one could answer when we asked if things contained nuts.

Doesn’t matter what you think of the policies of the owning brewery as this is an unusual, old, special pub. Yes it can get stupidly ‘rammed’ in good weather but at other times it’s a treat to visit.

Had a great time, my belly is full. Every burger should come with peppercorn sauce. Only complaint, some weird woman kept talking to me and my girlfriend.

Not a good choice of drinks unless you want Sam Smiths Beer… No Gin or choice of mixers, no choice of red or white wine..!! We were tourists so used our phone to find directions and were very rudely shown a notice by the bar staff who told us to put our phone away.. would not recommend there are much better friendlier pubs..
