Decent beer garden with a good atmosphere and friendly staff

Good food for price, staff are some of best in County Durham. Only complaint is table should be wiped down more often. From breakfast until dinner you will not find better for the money

Spent three evenings enjoying this Hungry Horse establishment. Was warm greated by Layla. She made the experience a pleasure. When ever our paths crossed on our stay, she always had a pleasant word for us.

I go here most days and enjoy a nice gingerbread latte, they are superb, the food is great and the staff are always very welcoming, especially alex, shannen and sarah

Food was excellent value for money. Tasty and plentiful. Unfortunately, the place was dirty and very tired. Not many people there, and we can see why. A real letdown to the Hungry Horse pubs. Definitely not be returning.

Unfortunately our experience here wasn't great. There was 4 adults and 3 teenagers in our party for our grandsons 18th birthday little get together due to his busy schedule we chose here. While the food was average there was no complaints about the food, but we were made to feel very unwelcome, we were all sat happily chatting and catching up when one of the waitresses came to us at 9.40pm to inform us they were calling last orders, then at 9.50pm were we informed again that they would be locking the doors in 15 minutes because they were quite. Is this the way you treat your paying customers. We certainly will not be returning. Very disappointing, not a very good end to a special occasion.

Wasn't the nicest experience of food and the beer tasted weird and we tried 4 different ones, the food was very poor

Took the kids to the play area (Wacky), my daughter had a great time. The only issue we had was with some of the food, all three adults has food with salad in it and as you can see from the photo we were lucky enough to get old browning lettuce. From my experience this is at least 24-48 hours old and shouldn't have been served. Service was alright, the woman running the play area was lovely, it was very busy but she managed to sort us out a table. The bar staff had an issue putting ice in drinks when we had asked for no ice (we ordered through the app) so we scooped them out. Overall for atmosphere my daughter loved it, so can't complain about it.

We visited as we stayed in Premier Inn next door. The food was actually surprisingly nice! We had mixed grills and veggie lasagne. As a side, we had onion rings and halloumi, which were absolutely delicious 😋 The atmosphere was nice and the staff were very helpful and friendly. They could do with a little bit of decorating update, otherwise nothing to fault! It's also reasonably priced, which makes a change as we come from Sussex 😄

Really nice welcome, it's a pub chain so you know there will be a wide ranging menu. The staff are nice and they make sure you are happy. The food is tasty, quickly served and hot. A nice place to visit.

We got there for opening and was so disappointed. Toilets clearly hadn't been cleaned, bins full in toilets, tables in soft play area still had bits of food on them and stains....soft play in need of replacing, patches all over, dirty, balls in need of a deep clean, I even saw a child's bottle in the soft play and a dummy so they clearly do not get checked. I can't believe how much they charge for those facilities. Won't be returning, cheaper to go to the local soft play which is much cleaner and bigger! Food is not worth the money, nor are the drinks. Total let down👇

Always our work go to pub. In a good location, plenty of parking space. Could do with more of a bar style setup near the pool table, with sports on etc and this may attract more types of customers.

We were staying at the premier inn opposite and they neglected to tell us that breakfast finished at 9 (not 10 as it has been any other time we have stayed in a premier inn). Thankfully, the lady who works at the Hungry Horse, possibly manager?, was so helpful and got us a breakfast despite us arriving just at the cut off. The previous day, when we arrived on time, she was also so warm and welcoming, going out of her way to engage my son and check if we needed anything. A credit to the business! Thank you :)

We visited for our Xmas day dinner. We pre ordered off the selected menu. Arrived to be greeted with a smile and friendly staff. We were taken to our table and provided a drink each for a selected variety. Starters arrived hot and tasty, mains shorty after again nice and filling although not however still tasty, by the time pudding arrived we were all stuffed some members of our party ate them some boxes up and took home which the staff were more Ethan happy to accommodate.

The Gretna is a very nice place to visit for food . We went on Friday which is bogof on burgers so we ordered 4 burgers and only paid for 2 . The food was nice The staff are all nice, each day they have different offers all which are good so take advantage of this as we did , drinks are reasonably priced also so overall a very good place . Thank you

Called in for a drink after an afternoon walk. The place was quiet, mainly due to the council doing some road alterations, hindering traffic access.

I love the Gretna. The staff are always very nice to me and j enjoy the food a lot. I love the chicken meals, such as the chicken tikka curry and the southern fried chicken burger. The chocolate fudge cake is also really good for the price.

Had a Premier Inn breakfast here. Food was terrible and cold, pastries were still raw, instant coffee served up instead of fresh grinds, tables were dirty and chairs looked like someone had taken a shit on them. They have set the breakfast price £1.50 higher than a Beefeater/ Bar & Block P.I restaurant. I thought the Brewers Fair chain was rough until I came here 🤮

Super friendly staff with a lovely atmosphere. Was 20p short on a drinks bill and one of the bar staff gave me a 50p towards it! Not sure of her name but thank you so much, you were a life saver. Will definitely be back.

I stayed at the Premier Inn and had breakfast at the Gretna Green Hotel. I was very impressed by the warm welcome. Emma's service was warm and friendly and fast; she really made me feel welcome and comfortable. The breakfast (made by Greg) was fresh and tasty. The whole experience set me up for a challenging day at work . I'd had dinner the night before, and had the same positive experience. All the staff were an example of how great service should be. I'd recommend the salmon sizzler.

After visiting the gretna green, I can say I won't be coming back. The food was good, the place needs a good clean, napkins and food under the table .staff need some training .they brought our main course out when our starters were still on table.

A typical Hungry Horse pub, food was pretty standard, service was a little lacking but it seemed they were winding down for the evening, taking more interest in setting up for breakfast than sorting current diners out. I enjoyed my meal and it was decently priced.

Served by the lovely Layla and had absolutely stella service. Made our weekend birthday plans very special 🙂

Had an overnight stay at the Premier Inn and arrived too late for an evening meal. The staff were so helpful in suggesting nearby takeaways and quenching our thirst after a long drive. Breakfast the next morning and again such friendly staff and quick service. I am gluten free and was offered a wide selection of breakfast options. If you are heading North I would recommend this place as a stop over to break up the journey.

I often call with the family for food as it good value and child friendly. Today we were greeted at the bar by a new face, Jacob. He was very polite and friendly even when I was struggling with my daughter he remained patient, it was so nice not to feel rushed in any way.

Tracey is so friendly and always there to help the kids love her and all the staff learn the names of the kids we go nearly every day

Visited for the soft play, the area is very dated and doesn’t smell very nice. Asked for the mac n cheese and got a bowl of cold canned macaroni cheese, I got a refund on this as couldn’t eat it. Others in the party had food and didn’t enjoy theirs either. Food shouldn’t be served in the soft play area if it’s this terrible

I've been visiting this place with my 2 children for the past 10 years. They loved the Wacky Warehouse, but now they're older, we only attend the restaurant part. Usually very happy with our meals but on the last 3 visits the food hasn't been as nice as it normally is and seemed to be lower quality items being used. We normally visit around once a fortnight but I think I'll be checking out the reviews over the next couple of months first to get an idea if things have improved. The staff are all really friendly and helpful. The place always looks tidy and presentable when I have visited. Always manage to get a parking space. I am disabled and this is easily accessible for me, so hopefully, things will improve in the future and I can look forward to visiting again.

Bog standard chain pub. Badly in need of coat of paint. Ash trays outside looked like they were last emptied before Easter

Pure garbage food, to me it was all frozen farmfoods rubbish!!! The tables were filthy plates, glasses stuff all over would not be going again 😒!!

We used to use this place quite a lot, but stopped using it because the standard of the food ie whether it was cooked fully, over cooked or cold when served. Popped in this morning for breakfast some of it was OK and freshly cooked and hot, however some of the sausages were not fully cooked and only lukewarm, bacon was very fatty and only just warm, the toast was stone cold. The teabag is of very poor quality and didn't make a very good mug of tea (for the extra charged a pot of tea would have been a better option to supply) also the cranberry juice the wife had was a very cheap version from a carton. Which just goes to prove, standards have not improved therefore we won't be going back again until the company does something about the issues.

Had a great meal on the 24 May. However tonight (25 May), the staff were quite rude, short of attention especially when it came to me ordering my mum a wine which they sold the girl didn't hear me, also did not put ice cream 🍨 on my meal. Had no Mac and Cheese, my mum's food was cold so had to have a replacement done and the receipt 🧾 didn't register ice cream which I ordered at the bar. I was gonna be charged again despite asking before and the staff member got it wrong by not adding it to the order. Left me in a right foul mood. So hence the rating.

Brought beef lasagna out instead of vegetable when my partner is vegan and mine the portion was diabolical wouldn't of fed a toddler

Unfortunately we didn't have the best experience here, my vegetarian meal came out and it was beef two other adults got fish and chips which in all honesty, no bigger than the two kids meals. They replaced the vegi meaI but everyone else had finished their meals and the plastic wrap was still half way on my lasagne bowl, booked because I had an email to say they were taking part on feed your family for £15 , but our meals came to nearly £50 Staff friendly as usual

When entering at 10.11am we are immediately told we can't sit in one side of the pub as they are still cleaning after the pub is open to the public. Then our drinks came out wrong and not to how we ordered them. The food....... my breakfast looked ill, pale bacon more fat than bacon. The egg had plastic cooked into it that I nearly broke my tooth on. My daughter had waffled it was rock solid she couldn't get her folk into it. Really disappointed. Also the small full English adults is the same as the children's full English only different is the kids get toast with their price.

*UPDATE November 2023* We came for breakfast as a family and I can honestly say this was shocking. I'm not sure what has changed here but the bacon was half cooked and 80% fat and cold. The whole portion of breakfast was really small. Small egg, 1 spoon of beans, fatty bacon leaving barely and meat. Not to mention my wife found what we believe to be hard plastic in her egg. Both our breakfasts were the same size as one of our daughters kids breakfast but put on a larger plate and 1 extra hash brown. Our other daughter wanted waffles bacon and syrup. The portion and temperature was fair but the waffles were very hard. Could barely get her folk in them and were crunchy to eat resulting in her leaving half of her food. It's a shame to see the food going down hill as the atmosphere is still nice. *1st review* Come here all the time. Breakfast is fantastic every morning. Also the daytime meals are great aswel. The staff are very friendly and even remember our orders as we always order the same breakfasts. Prices are good and so is the atmosphere. I recommend this place to anyone.

It has change a lot (for the better) since I was last there over 2 years a go. Wheelchair friendly. This time the meals were more tastier and affordable. The staff are much more friendly, so much so I,m booking a reservation for my family of 16 for this year's traditional boxing day treat 2023.
