Great meal at the Gresley only to be ruined by some know-it-all locals who thought it was entertaining to patronise me and my family because we didn't know what views we were looking at from the back of the pub. He was Ginger, That probably explains it.

Such a lovely meal, and STUNNING VIEWS. We had such a tasty meal here on a lovely summer’s evening. I had a pizza and my parents had a fillet steak and a steak and ale pie. The side of onion rings were brilliant! I finished off with churros that I sincerely hope become a permanent addition to their menu as they were fab! Helpful smiley service and delicious food. I could sit outside staring across the countryside for hours.

We’d never visited before but I’ve recently moved to the area and wanted family to enjoy a nice Sunday lunch together. Unfortunately the service was very slow , the waiting staff pretty un knowledgeable about what sauces they had , and everywhere looked messy and a bit grubby , with uncleared tables and young staff standing around chatting as we arrived with no one to greet us. Won’t be back .

The pub has stunning views. The car park is half beer garden and railings that resemble a builders yard. The food was disgusting. One meal had homemade chips The other frozen. Greasy margarine and soaked in fat. No one came to check the food was okay otherwise we would have said how bad it was. By far the worst food in a pub in a long time. The staff are miserable and the pub is dark and grim inside and needs a good clean. Never again. It's not difficult to get the basics right and at £11 pounds each that was so wrong.

The views from The Gres are spectacular and well worth a visit for those alone. Unfortunately seems totally lacking in any kind of warmth or welcome when visiting almost a feeling of "your not local you don't belong here" which is a shame as I was born & bred just down the hill & was looking forward to visiting the local pubs in the area whilst I was back. Still worth a visit to sit out in the beer garden and admire the views.

We ended up here for lunch today following a recommendation from the landlord of The Butcher’s Arms (who weren’t serving food). Firstly the views are stunning. It was too warm for us outside, but plenty of people were in the garden enjoying the sunshine. The service was great. We ordered at the bar and the food came pretty quickly. All of the staff were friendly and polite. The food menu has loads of choice. Our food was absolutely brilliant. We all had the garlic mushrooms and shared a portion of chips. I know some of the reviews on here have said it’s overpriced, but we genuinely thought it was great value for money. Considering this dish was on the ‘appetiser’ section of the menu, the portions were generous and filling. I would definitely recommend this pub and will certainly visit again if I’m in the area.

Well as soon as we walked in the bar there was a bad atmosphere the bar staff were rude.. they didn’t even crack a smile once.. there was a random customer who walked behind the bar (older lady with long grey hair hippy kind of style) think She thought she was someone special.. she gave me a dirty look and rolled her eyes at me and was walking around like she owned the place.. she wasn’t nice but then again all The staff were miserable I had salmon and my fella had Mediterranean veg etc.. he didn’t eat his said it was disgusting (he’s a Michelin sous chef .. he’s said the “ Mediterranean veg was just a dollop of tomato Puree it was under seasoned and cold and my dish I had a salmon and potatoes it was awful! No seasoning again .. the waitress at the beginning even took our salt off the table.. oh and she was rude as well .. asked for a shot as it’s my fellas birthday and they said “ they don’t do shots”..erm ok… never known a normal bar to refuse Me a shot jesus. Over all bad experience.. awful miserable shaft.. awful food and bad place to go (used to Be nice when They had different staff and chef.) I wouldn’t bother again ** too pricey as well **

Went out with a friend for lunch and had a hot turkey baguette which came with a Yorkshire, stuffing, beautiful homemade chips and a small jug of gravy. Price was right and service prompt and attentive. However returned the following Monday with family and was disappointed that the hot turkey was not on the specials, they did have a beef version but opted for a brie and bacon, bread very good, but chips obviously chunky but cooked frozen ones. Others had the ceasar salad and club sandwich on bloomer bread. The food was OK, but not as good as the previous time. Will give them another go sometime as I was so impressed on the first occasion and will make mind up then.

We came before Christmas on a Saturday afternoon- the first time in years and it was brilliant I even left a lovely review, so we knew that for our wedding anniversary tonight this is where we wanted to come , table was booked over the phone yesterday, we get there our names not in the book whoever I spoke to hadn’t added it , but it’s ok as it’s quite ( good job) the menu on Fb is not the menu you get when you sit down , they don’t do table service for drinks (they did when we where here last)so when I went to order I asked why it had changed and was told it depends who’s on , ( so in other words if they can’t be bothered then tough) we ordered starters and waited and waited they finally arrived after nearly 40 minutes, they where ok , we had both ordered steak ,when it arrived there’s 12 chips on each plate so I gave my hubby my chips , the steaks ok , but you only get steak , chips , very well done peas and a grilled tomato, we ordered a portion of onion rings (£4.50) for 5 , £2 for a sauce which isn’t bad but £2 for garlic butter ? So it all mounts up to get a decent steak dish , we couldn’t wait to get to the car as it was freezing my hubby had his coat on and I had my hands in my pockets , we were both gutted as for the last 2 years have been unable to celebrate our wedding anniversary due to my husbands Ill health , we definitely won’t be going here again in a hurry

Went in to regular haunt , and had a starter of soup nice to be fair , coffee came in a glass mug with lipstick on , I ordered bangers and mash for my main , the peas were shrivelled and like marbles , the mash I’ve had softer set concrete the 2 sausage were microwaved to death I managed to eat half a sausage as it was very tuff , the gravy of onion gloop reminded me of jelly out of pork pies , the chap who runs it came over and said is everything ok to which I said no he didn’t respond just walked away ,he then said he would credit me from the coffee ( which I hadn’t complained about I’m guessing £2-3 . He wouldn’t credit my meal as I had ate a fork full of mash and half a sausage im guessing £10-12 . I’ve never complained in my life and this is the first review I’ve ever left but could of been resolved by being right instead of trying spin me , unfortunately due to this experience and the down turn in cleanliness I won’t be back , I’m sure I could get over priced poor food from anywhere

Nice burgers, pies and chips here, but really don't get why restaurants are stingy with cheap ingredients, for example, if you are having pie and mash you want enough mash to go with it not a child's sized blob! Peas were very undercooked which some people might not like, I didn't mind as I quite like crunchy veg. Pleasant staff, tatty beer garden. Appreciate that the toilets were nice and warm!

I arrived last as I had cycled through Apedale. 5 at our table already and no room for a sixth, so I retired to the bar with a pint of Gamma Ray and a comfortable sofa. the worst place I have ever been in my entire life. 1st night out since having my 2nd baby. So me and 2 girlfriends met up at a friends house who lives 2 minutes away, the bar staff were lovely. However, a barmaid called Danielle I think, told my friend in the toilet that there were no seats for us randomly, we had booked and been there for an hour already and had a table. She had a major attitude problem and was rude and abrupt for no reason. My friend who works for the police, was shouted at by the owner for swearing, he could have just come over and politely asked, instead he shouted so the whole pub could hear him! Sexist, abusive, because we were a group of 3 younger girls he seemed to think he could speak down to us and embarrass us. Lucky my husband didn't turn up. (we are fully grown professional adults by the way) there were no children about. At this point, understandably, we were getting fed up of the treatment. He proceeded to be extremely rude to us which led to myself walking out and crying and my friends arguing with him. He shouted good when I left. The most disrespectful man I have ever had to endure. We had to take our food out and back to my friends house which he proceeded to charge us for!!! After abusing us for majority of time we were there. My friend works for the NHS which he knew and tried to compare his job in a pub to working front line during covid ?? Is that a joke? Treatment of front line staff is disgusting Im not sure why we were given such a cold reception from the moment we walked in. Very judgemental, very rude even though he is just a pub owner, he seems to think he's doing better than everyone else in life. Well you arent and you should never judge people the way that you did. Vile vile man.we go to high end bars and pubs alot, in manchester especially and never get this treatment.

I really enjoyed the food, I have had the vegetarian burger which was delicious so was the side salad and also the chorizo and hummus flatbread and the fish and chips which was divine!! First time visiting since being under new management. Busy place, lots of locals socialising which is a good sign.We were the first diners of the evening and the restaurant quickly filled with other diners. We ordered our drinks at the bar and were seated quickly. My husband did pass comment that the Blonde Beer was slightly warm so changed his drink to Larger. The meal was nice. T Bone steak was probably slightly over cooked from the Medium ordered but still nice. The lamb shank was lovely, the meat fell off the bone. The mash was a little too wet. But it was piping hot.The only criticism we have really is the service as once the meals were delivered to us, no one came back to ask if everything was ok and to order our second drink, we had to catch the eye of a member of staff to ask for more drinks. We would return with friends in the future. Average probably isn't the right measure, it was good but not very good. It's a lovely place and recommend people do visit and make their own opinions.

We have been frequenting the Gresley for over ten years minimum twice a week. We are not local but just down the road in n-u-l the drive up was no problem as the quality of the Gresley warranted it. We loved the food and the great selection of real ales. We awaited the new owners with trepidation and hoped that no major changes would happen. We have continued to visit the Gresley since the Change over, but unfortunately upon every visit we found different aspects to be poor. We didn’t enjoy our meal one visit the steaks where mean and just made us feel as though we where given less than normal. The bar staff seem to be preoccupied and under the impression that they are serving on a Friday night in Hanley weatherspoons. We visited on Monday evening to find the place shut ? Eat for a pound is gone and seems to be quite a sore point with management and customers? This enticement was the only thing made us travel up on Mondays ? This weekend is the first time we have decided not to go the Gresley in a long time , and we feel very sad about it. I’ve seen resent Gresley responses across social media to negative feedback to be quite flippant and rude. I really hope the pub survives, we loved that pub!

Are here with friends for Sunday lunch. We both had the brisket of beef (£8) and was wonderful. Great selection of vegetables, wonderful gravy and the beef was so tender it fell to pieces. The only downside really was the Yorkshire pudding being of the frozen variety, but this didn't spoil the meal at all. A good selection of beers, I had the gresely blonde which was a really great tasty, light beer. This is a location definitely better on a good day, with some really good views across Cheshire and the beer garden having a lot of room.

This is normally one of our favourite places to eat and drink. I am very disappointed with the state of the beer garden today. The tables were empty when we arrived but were full of empty glasses which looked like they had been there a while as they were swarming with wasps. We sit outside but the wasps were everywhere, the bin was overflowing which wasn’t helping the situation. The views from the beer garden are amazing which was why it was disappointing to see the beer garden in such a mess. It did seem they were under staffed when ordering the drinks at the bar which might explain the state the beer garden was in. I really hope this was a one off due to staffing as it is a lovely country pub with good beers, l food and amazing views.

I visited today for the first time since this pub has been taken over. I asked for Ludwig beer which they have done for years..There were no beer pumps with Ludwig on. I'm not sure what the bar man gave me BUT it was not right. When I took it back saying it should b a cloudy wheat beer which looking at it, it obviously wasn't. He just assured me it was. Its was not a good beer. Next pint I asked for was warsteiner, which they have pumps for. Sorry.. We don't do that... Whilst at the bar the barman was telling a local that someone had complained about the price of the beer and he had told them that if they don't like it don't come back !! I didn't buy another pint but went to my seat to wait for my wife to drink up and the fella in the next table went up to the bar complaining that his beer tasted strange. Barman said it was fine. He just left it on the bar saying it was undrinkable.. No offer of an alternative was given.. At this rate they won't have many customers left after the previous owners had worked so hard to build the business up..

Our first visit to the pub/restaurant, definitely not our last. A true gem of a place that kicks the multi pubs into a cocked hat. Good sized car park with a view that beats everything I have seen. The Gresley is set on the crest of a hill and has uninterupted views across to North Wales - not bad when you think we are in Staffordshire.

We were driving back home on the M6 and decided to look for somewhere for dinner and found this pub. The menu had a good choice and the food was well cooked.

The Gresley Arms is a warm and welcoming pub in Alsagers Bank, close to the Staffordshire - Cheshire border. The staff are friendly and efficient, nothing is too much trouble. The food is excellent and reasonably priced. My wife and I were taken out on Mother’s Day, which this year, 2019, also happened to be my wifes Birthday and we had a great time.

Our first visit to this lovely pub. I couldn’t find anything to complain about. I booked a table by phone at the beginning of the week. No waiting to be shown to our table. The food quality was excellent. Our steaks were cooked to perfection. Wonderful home cooked chunky chips. (We had a 16oz Rump Steak and a 14oz T-bone for £20). Desserts were excellent too. I can recommend the cheese board and the cheesecake. To top it off the staff are really nice and made us feel very welcome.

My wife and I often go out for a pub lunch / Dinner. We have had meals at The Gresley Arms over the past 3 weeks and would have no hesitation in recommending The Gresley Arms to anyone. The selection of beers and choice of meals are first class, We would like to thank everyone at The Gresley Arms Gary & Elaine Wakefield

Booked for five of us going to away match at Macclesfield, although I had booked for 12.30 ,traffic and road works on the M6 delayed us, I called to say we would be later than intended and would be there for 13.00, was assured this would not be a problem.

We visited on a Friday night. The service was excellent by very cheerful staff and the food was superb. My steak was quite the best I've had for a long time and my wife had the steak pie, both absolutely lovely, nothing left on the plate!

This was our first visit for over 10 years. We were impressed by the menu. There is an excellent choice of dishes at very reasonable prices. The food was very good. If there was a criticism it is a lack of choice to peas and chips.

I have just been here for a meal with my wife that I won in a competition and the food was exceptional and to be honest I would have gladly paid for the meal. The staff are so very friendly and helpful and can’t do enough and as we had never been there before we will definitely be returning with all of the family. Will try to go there in the day so we can experience the fantastic views so thanks to everyone for making our visit a fantastic one and we will see you all soon. Would and will definitely recommend to everyone I know.

We have visited The Gresley Arms several times since discovering it and it has always been spot on so we decided to have our family xmas celebration there on Boxing Day, 12 of us in total ordering from the Christmas Fayre menu less than £15 a head for a 3 course meal with coffe and mince pies and crackers thrown in and only £10 for kids. We were looked after from the moment we arrived by Sarah and her team and the food as always was delicious. We had a mixture of tradional xmas dinners, steak, seabass etc and everyone was more than happy. My wife had to 5 drive home because an absolute favourite of mine Owd Rodger was on the bar it is 7.4% so a bit potent. The guys at The Gresley have got it spot on so we'd like to wish the a Merry Xmas and we'll see you in the New Year.

We tried to visit to eat today, we checked their website before we visited and it states dog and family friendly. BUT dogs not allowed in the restaurant and children not allowed in the bar area. Are we meant to eat separately? We left and tried somewhere else....

Whilst most reviews suggest that The Gresley Arms offers great food, there is always an element of doubt. Well, happily, we found that the best of the reviews are pretty accurate - great food, good beer and great value!

Tried the Greeley Arms tonight as I’ve not been before. The food was excellent, all the starters were £3.95 so we had a starter each followed by the mains.

Well this place keeps popping up on my FB page so today we thought we would give it a go. We are so pleased we did. As soon as you walk in you are made welcome the landlady was lovely as were all the staff. It was crazy busy but the landlady found us a table. We both had a roast dinner which is served on proper plates! And not the little sandwich plates that most pubs use and the meals were delicious. Will deffo be going to steak night . Got to say as well all the customers were really friendly it was a pleasure to go there. Sat outside admiring the stunning view and watched the sunset. I was freezing my ti** off but worth it.

I was up in Staffordshire for my nephews birthday and although the family had raved about The Gresley Arms this was my first visit. On entering the car park I was just hit by that view, it was a crisp, clear Autumn day so we could see for miles, I was reliably informed the view stretches from the Wrekin in Shropshire along past the Welsh Mountains to Liverpool and beyond. The pub itself is a warm, homely country pub in the same family for years, the prices were fantastic just over £3 a pint for proper beer. The menu has a lot of choice for a pub but steak seems to be the speciality so I chose the T-Bone cooked medium rare and it was spot on served with onion rings and garlic mushrooms with fat chips and salad, the rest of our party seemed to choose the rest of the menu, everthing arrived at the same time and looked great. This friendly pub seems to know what they are doing, this is a rare find these days and I would gladly recommend this pub to anyone.

The Gresley Arms has changed it's menu lately and added a selection of 'small plates' which can be taken as starters or by adding 2 or 3 together making a main meal 'Tapas Style' We decided to try this out as a group and weren't disapointed. With every 3 small plates you get a free portion of chips so we decided to have 10 between us with 3 free chips, I dont think you really need the chips although they are delicious as the portions are plentiful and all served with a side salad, we had meatballs, chicken goujons, king prawns in white wine and garlic, beef brisket in a yorkshire pudding all cooked perfectly, we struggled to fit them all on the table. They have a small selection of cocktails although the lady promised us that they were working on more. We all thoroughly enjoyed our evening, it is always busy so there is always a buzz, be back soon

My wife suggested The Gresley Arms as she had seen the reviews so we went on Saturday night, what she had failed to tell me is that they serve 8 real ales at a time which change as one goes, they had my favourite Plum Porter on so I was set up no matter what. The staff are very friendly and helpful and sat us by the large picture window, they have an extensive menu with lots of options, I like steak and chips so went for the fillet with stilton sauce and nice to see proper chips, my wife had the salmon teriaki which she loved, I must say both meals were cooked perfectly. We have booked in again for next week and am looking forward to it already.

We went as a large family group to The Gresley Arms as it had been recommended to us, the dining room was busy but our table was ready and waiting, the landlady could not do enough for us, she expained the whole menu was available alongside of the Sunday Lunches. I had the slow cooked beef and it was perfect, my husband had a T-Bone steak cooked as he likes it with proper chips. Everyone on our table enjoyed the meals and the hospitality, it was just unfortunate that it was a rainy day so we couldnt see much of the famous view. My husband is a beer drinker and the selection of different ales was impressive, we will certainly visit again soon.

Absolutely the worst pub in any st post code There was a open mic a few weeks ago when we attended some great singers where on one sang a England foot ball song 3 lions non offensive non family friendly song o it was at 9.45 and only adults in the pub Then all of a sudden the bar staff went and turned the sound system of and stopped all other singers as they said no English foot ball songs while we're in the soden euros and in the final We're proud to be in English and sing our songs with pride but your staff attitude needs to change !!! If I could give a 0 for stars I would I will never set foot in this place again
