The food is delicious, the portions are just right and beautifully presented. The service was excellent. The view of Lincoln cathedral is a bonus.

We booked for Sunday lunch as a family celebration. The view of the cathedral was the best thing. When we sat down at the table there were dirty glasses and cutlery on the floor under the table. The service was very slow and not very present or attentive. We waited a long time for the food. The portions were not generous, the vegetables were good but the meat was dry and tough, and the potatoes cold and overdone. Sadly I could not recommend either the food, the service or the dining experience.

We booked for the green restaurant at the Lincoln hotel, spend several minutes trying to find it having directions from staff to find it was not open. We then wandered or way back to what looked like a foyer for the hotel and were then told this is where we would eat. The area felt like a foyer with many guests using it as a bar or waiting area to go to birthday parties a wedding or just waiting for others to join them. It was very loud and noisy and we felt we had been fitted in a seat amongst the chaos of all sorts of guests sitting there to meet friends not to eat. the service was slow. The waiter tried his best and was very professional, but this was not a restaurant experience for the money we paid for. The menu looked as if it was top grade, but the experience was far worse. Pigs cheek was tough, pancetta sawdust was very crunchy and did not fit with the dish. The duck option was good for the amount of duck, the potato/carrot accompaniment was good, but not enough vegetables to match the meat on the plate. The blackberry sauce was ok but so sour that it overwhelmed the dish. The duck lolly pop was not what I expected and did not add to the dish. My partner's vegetarian dish looked very sad and was not worth the money paid. Overall very disappointed but not due to the waiter that served us. A note to Lincoln hotel management . You have such an amazing view stop trying to be all things to all people and concentrate on less and do not advertise a dining area that does not exist.

The car park was full when we arrived but we couldn’t lift the exit barrier. My wife stayed with the car while I went to Reception - where I encountered a bell button in place of a Receptionist. No one came so after 5 minutes button pushing I went upstairs to the bar and was given apology and a card with the exit code. Back at the car park, there was a queue of cars that had come in through the entrance barrier and wanted to get out. As it was dark we needed a torch to see the relevant buttons. All a bit farcical. Having parked elsewhere we went to the dining room to find a function (wedding reception?) in full swing. They were in a separate room but spilling over into the dining room. This hadn’t been mentioned at the time of booking. We were seated by the window but very close to an air conditioning vent. During the evening the room became colder and it was explained that the function room used by the wedding guests was on the same circuit much to our discomfort. The meals (beef burger and steak and onion pie) were attractive although not piping hot. Whilst my burger was OK, the pie’s shortcrust pastry was very hard, difficult to cut into and tough to chew. It was if the pastry cases had been left to dry out. The steak contents were reasonable although not very hot. I declined dessert, but my wife’s , “Blackberry Cheesecake” in no way resembled a cheesecake and its topping was a pink mousse but not a blackberry in sight or taste. Disappointing. During the meal, it became apparent that the dining room served as a corridor between the function room and the toilets. Noticeably, for some people visiting the toilet was a lonely affair while others preferred to be in 2s or 3s chatting loudly. We have eaten at Lincoln Hotel several times and found everything of a high standard: a place where you could relax with friends or business colleagues, and enjoy a decent meal or a sandwich at lunchtime. I’m sorry, but this was not an enjoyable occasion – but the chips were good!

I have visited twice since lockdown has relaxed and both times using travel zoo vouchers. Firstly, it is really well organised with the test and trace app, plenty of hand sanitiser and space around tables. Sunday lunch used to be a carvery but currently you order from a good choice and your meat is brought with a separate side of veg. All the food was excellent Evening Meal this week we were in the green room and again excellent choice and all of the meals were excellent. I have been in the past when service has been slow but the last two times the service has been brilliant and I thank both Gemma and Beth for their friendly and attentive service. We even got to see the chefs Billy and James who came out to talk to diners. They are currently running a couple of offers on food, but that said we have always had excellent food. Would recommend.

We had eaten at the Lincoln Hotel before and been delighted. Our dinner visit on this occasion was every bit as good. Chef explained all the dishes and was charming. The food was remarkably good and the restaurant's awards are well-deserved. The table staff were, as always, excellent - friendly helpful and efficient. This restaurant manages to combine high quality food with a welcoming, professional but informal approach. A high-end dining experience without pretentiousness (is that a word?) or high prices. Thanks and special praise to Chefs Billy and James as well as Gemma and Beth for excellent, attentive table service. P.S. Please keep this little gem of a restaurant secret!

Excellent night of dining in the Green Room at the Lincoln Hotel We have visited the hotel on numerous occasions and can honestly say the food and service are something to write home about and well worth the visit. A little apprehensive due to the current trend for social distancing etc but the hotel has this process managed to a high standard. Our service provided by Gemma and Olivia was excellent and they both took time to talk to us regarding our night out in the Green Room, two very pleasant staff members who clearly wanted our night to be enjoyed.

My husband and I have just spent a lovely weekend in Lincoln and we went to The Green Room for a meal last night (Saturday 5th September). To be honest we were not really sure what to expect when we first went in as it did feel very 'hotel' like rather than 'restaurant' like. However, the food was delicious and the waitresses Gemma and Olivia were 10/10 - really friendly, polite and attentive.

We were on a three night B&B/Dinner deal and as with most hotels, entered the restaurent with some foreboding, but this is a remarkable exception. We were delighted to find great food and service. Nigella and Co couldn't have provided friendlier/more expert/better help. Yes, it's quite formal, but this is a place where the food is an experience rather than a fuelling station en route to somewhere else. After three nights we were still happy to try new things (although I cheated and had the scallops twice). OdieUK (previous reviewer) is right about the marmite butter; I hated it, husband loved it!. On a more serious note, more than half the dishes were gluten free and clearly labelled. The staff made it their mission to keep me safe!

We used a voucher which made it excellent value. This was our second visit to the restaurant. The dining experience the first time around was excellent, faultless. This time our experience was still excellent but the dishes we had were changed a little. The presentation was excellent, the bread, butters etc brought to the table as extras, were a nice touch. The food quality is of a high standard. The cod loin was superbly cooked and delicious as was the pigeon starter and my husband had the pork plate, which was also delicious. We had the chocolate delice,( which my husband had had the first time and it was delightful and the presentation wowed us) but it was totally different this time and not quite as enjoyable, but still good, and it wasn't presented quite as well. The staff Gemma and Beth were friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive . We will be going again and can thoroughly recommend this restaurant.

Disappointing return visit. We had such a good carvery lunch before that we thought we would return. We invited family but what a let down. Although the choice of vegetables and side dishes is good, the portion of meat dished out to us all was minuscule. I thought the man carving was going to injure himself by aiming to slice the meat as thinly as possible then bunching it together to boost the volume on the plate. It was more like shaving off the joint and I feel my meal was almost vegetarian. What a contrast with before . We are not pigs, we do not require vast amounts of food but this was a joke. The price has remained the same, but you certainly get a lot less for your money. We will not be back.

So..you are from out of town. It’s a first time visit, you have checked TA, and you want somewhere really special. But you are just not quite sure, so what do you do? You ask the concierge at your hotel for their recommendation. The green room is part of ‘the Lincoln’, with awesome views of the cathedral. It is a spectacular site at night. The green room is separated by a bar into two intimate dining rooms. Their is superb photography of aircraft on the walls. The a la carte menu offers a choice of dishes for all tastes with plenty of locally sourced produce. The staff were very proud to point this out, knowing it’s quality and sustainability. Interesting flavours and new ideas with a twist generally hit the mark, with the odd hmmm...not quite. The staff were extremely pleasant and knowledgable without being obtrusive or stand offish. Their was always a smile from each of them. We all enjoyed our choices, though the cod loin was somewhat on the salty side. The cheese plate was a huge hit - the local plum bread totally yummy. As for the marmite butter..well you either love it or hate it. This was a fine dining experience, with the same price tag. However, in London this meal would have been more than double the price.

My partner and I ate here on 30th January. It was my partners birthday so when booking I asked for a table with a view. We were seated in the window by the bar which did have a view of the top of the cathedral lit up, but there was some waste ground and a brick built box/shed in front so view was slightly spoilt. Food was brilliant......I had hare for starters & venison for main course and both dishes were delicious and the meat melted in my mouth. My partner had wood pigeon & fillet steak which were also delicious, followed by 2 cheeses for desert. Sooooooo delicious. He had a very Special birthday meal, and so did i! Our waiter was lovely, absolutely NO rush. He gave us Marmite butter with delishly melt in mouth walnut bread which was absolutely delicious!!! A very enjoyable evening, would definitely recommend.

Wine which we had ordered for our main course was delivered after the meal and cold beers were delivered with warm tumblers rather than proper glasses . I appreciate that the food was supposed to be nouveau cuisine but The Wild Sea Bass was crispy and had less fish than a fish finger. It appeared that there was only two young waitresses in charge, which might explain some of the issues we had experienced. Furthermore, the attention to detail, given the excellent marketing was disappointing. Blinds hanging down at 45 degrees and poor signage for access doors. On the whole the prices charged didn't match our experience or the image created via the marketing.

The food was great. Prices were reasonable for the quality and portions just about right so that you could fit in at least 2 courses. The food was well presented and the menu imaginative. The pigeon was lovely. The staff were friendly but training for them is an issue. They tried their best but just didn't have the experience needed to deal with allergies. I had given them my allergies beforehand and they repeated them when we got there. I was told that the starter and main I had chosen were fine for me. I enjoyed my starter of pigeon. When the main came I had started to eat it when I noticed what appeared to be tomato on my dish. As I am allergic to it I double checked. The waitress came back and said that it didn't usually have tomato in it but today it did. I asked her to remove my plate and explained it was serious. I took my medication and she then returned with my plate of food and said she had checked with the head chef and he said it wasn't tomato. I then got a luke warm dish back with cutlery that had food all over the handles as it had slipped in the food during the transit from table to kitchen and back again. I had to request new cutlery. We had no apology from anyone and I then had to try to keep awake as I had just given myself medication that I didn't need. If you have no food allergies then this is a place to try. If you have then be aware as they are not set up to deal with them. It was even more disappointing as it was a special meal to celebrate my husband's birthday.

We think this is a pretty hidden gem as being part of the hotel. Unlike most hotel food, this is very good and I wish I had this quality when I traveled to other hotels on business.

Traveled from Ireland to celebrate a birthday with our sister and brother-in-law - what a disappointment. Firstly the decor was sad and weary and the entrance through the hotel was dirty and littered with papers. The food was tasty but the portions were so small it was laughable. My brother in law got 2 scallops the size of 50 pence pieces and a little ball of something in the middle which was difficult to identity, the goats cheese starter was 3 little tiny balls which tasted nice but for the price definitely not worth it. The service was appalling and we had to wait ages for these tiny pieces of food. I ordered no starter and had the sweet potato curry which turned out to be a half a sweet potato that had been mashed with spices etc and placed back into the skin with 2 spoons of wild rice underneath and 4 blobs of mange chutney on the plate. This was no curry, flavors were good but I was absolutely starving, beef and onions which sounded like it was going to be a hearty meal came out as a circle of beef (well done on outside/undercooked in the middle) with one onion. I had no dessert as again the size was approx 3/4 " x 3" so I had the cheese board - that was great - this filled me up. The other 3 were starving and had to have some food when we arrived home. Such attention to detail and such little satisfaction to the customer. I cant understand this Nouvelle Cuisine - charged exorbitant prices and still starving. Also the tables are so close together that we had to endure the riotous table beside us for the night. Will definitely not be returning.

Really good quality food freshly prepared and looking wonderful on the plate. Yes it is a bit "Chefy" but that's nice for special night out. They may not be big portions but I certainly did not leave feeling hungry after three courses. I had the local wood pigeon starter and cod with mussels and samphire as a main. They were both beautifully cooked and well presented. My wife had the duck pate followed by the plate of pork which she really enjoyed and looked good. The desserts were beautifully presented and a nice mix of flavours. Though we were not sure about the basil flavoured sorbet - it was a bit of a shock even though it is described on the menu. The service good -just the right amount of attention though we did go quite early in the evening so it was not too busy. Thank you Gemma and Nigella.

I have never written a review on here but felt compelled to after the evening I had at this restaurant. It was for my birthday and I was very excited about it as the menu sounded amazing when I'd read it online. Firstly I have to say, I couldn't fault the food, it was very good. The problem was the service. We got welcomed in, shown to our table, offered drinks, and it all looked very promising. Then it steadily went downhill after that. At no point during our meal did we get offered more drinks, so we had one drink each throughout a 3 course meal. Some might say ask for one, but trying to catch a waitress was rather difficult. I ordered my dessert and at no point did I get brought dessert cutlery. I didn't realise this until shortly after getting my dessert though and then I had to try and grab a waitress. By this time my ice cream had become a pool on my plate. I asked for fresh ice cream, which to be fair, I then got brought a new bowl with 4 scoops in it! My partner also ordered a coffee instead of dessert, but we waited ages for that, it seemed like they'd forgotten. Then when we'd finished, despite sitting there for some time, not one waitress cleared our table and we were probably sat there half an hour before we caught someone's attention to get the bill. Within 10 seconds of getting the bill, our card was on the table, but yet we sat there for 10 minutes and in the end gave up waiting and just went to the till on the way out. By this time we were sick of waiting. The thing was that other people seemed to arrive after us and leave before us, but we just seemed forgotten about. I don't know what was going on, but the overall experience was somewhat ruined by the lack of service.

The standard of this restaurant remains very high and the combination of unusual flavours makes for some very tasty dishes. My only criticism is that since we were last there, some new crockery has been introduced that makes an excruciating noise when scraped with a spoon or knife or fork, and of course no-one can exist scraping up the last delicious mouthful..

We live locally but this was the first time we had been to the Green Room for a meal. We reserved a table for four online and on arrival were swiftly shown to our table. The Sunday lunch menu has a limited number of choices but we very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and size of the portions. The waitress, Sophie, was extremely helpful and courteous. A very pleasant experience that we intend to repeat in the near future.

The food and service good, although when arriving at restaurant, a bit confused as to whether just to enter or wait. Found a waitress who took us to our table. The service was fine, Sophie and Steph. However, it was really cold in the restaurant. It had been a very warm day but the evening was chilly and all the windows were open, I think to get rid of the smell of fish which was quite potent.

We just went to the Green Room this evening to celebrate my daughter’s 27th birthday. We all looked at the menu prior to booking and all wanted the scallops. We went for an early 7:30pm meal. On arrival we were informed that that the scallops were not available. So disappointed already. The food was ok. At no point did the staff suggest we order additional sides. My dinner chicken with fondant potato literally was just one small fondant potato. My husband and daughter had beef and onions, if staff had interacted and informed them of requesting tender broccoli then this would have complimented their superb meal. The interaction of staff was incredibly poor. No warm reception no smile no interaction e.g how was your food.

We were hoping for a cosy, anniversary dinner. Unfortunately we and our fellow diners sat in the cold as the air con blasted freezing air across the room. Despite the complaints this was not turned down/off. Tepid food was served on a cold plate. Not the relaxed intimate occasion we had hoped for. We walked back to our hotel looking in other restaurants at warm, happy diners. A disappointing experience.

Enjoyed a Sunday roast….. Offered a Good choice of meats or fish & chips. Piping hot food freshly cooked & plentiful carved choice of one or 2 sorts of meat. A Small or regular portion is available at a very good price. Followed by a varied selection of desserts which are a very generous portion. I am so lucky to live local to this wonderful tea shop. The BLT sandwich is to die for. Lovely, fresh homemade coleslaw and salad to go with a very generous, well presented sandwich, and of course crisps. I can only rave about every aspect of the place. Staff are welcoming, food is delish, atmosphere inviting, well-priced. The only thing is, it is so popular that you can't always get in. Luckily for me, they have sustainable packaging for takeaways. Do book if you want to sit-in though. Oh, the coffee is also fabulous.
