We enjoyed a delicious lunch before our visit to the pantomime. Will our waiter was helpful and friendly and deserves a special mention. Food was tasty and well cooked..

We had the 3 courses for £23 per person. This included the specials aswell as the standard menu that you can find in the photos on tripadvisor as the menu doesn’t seem to change that often. The portions were good and the food was very tasty.drinks weren’t a ridiculous price (£5 for a large 500ml bottle of beer). I don’t really understand why others have given a poor review as we had a very nice time dining in the green room before a show. We liked the venue itself and the staff were friendly and helpful. We’ll definitely eat here again before a show.

Well that was my first - and my last - visit to The Green Room! It may be convenient for a pre-show dinner, but the food was similar in taste and appearance to a 1960s school dinner. We had prepaid for the 2 course pre-show dinner, or we would have left as soon as we saw the menu! There was very little choice that day with no 'Specials' at all. Neither of us fancied fish or halloumi so, with our only option being sausage and mash or chicken we went with the chicken - it was ghastly. We were presented with a slimy, wet chicken leg in a grim sauce with rosti potatoes that lacked any crispiness at all, brocolli and mange tout. After 2 mouthfuls of the chicken I decided I could only eat the veg. For dessert we both chose churros - which were nice enough, but hardly enough to satisfy the appetites we'd built up after a whole day shopping in Canterbury. I couldn't fault our waitress - she was lovely ... although she had no idea what to say when I told her I couldn't eat the chicken, after she'd asked 'is everything ok?' I didn't even bother taking it home for the dog. I then felt dodgy for most of the next day

We had booked to see a show and thought we would give the theatre restaurant a go as my husband had never eaten there. We pre booked and were looking forward to emir meal. We were not disappointed! The staff were friendly, nothing too much trouble and the food was amazing! We booked three courses and were very pleased with every course. I can honestly say my sea bream was the nicest by far I have tasted and my husband was delighted with his mackerel. The meal was timed perfectly for us to go straight to our seats in the auditorium. It was amazing value at £23 per person for three courses and we will definitely book again when we go to the Marlowe again next month.

Had a reservation booked for over a week, was told they couldn’t find the reservation and they didn’t have a table available, the staff quite frankly couldn’t give a damn so I had to eat somewhere else. As a regular visitor to the Marlowe Theatre, I certainly won’t be eating in the Green room.

Good meal. I started with Grilled Chicken Skewer served with Fattoush Salad, whilst my wife had Lightly Spiced Crab Cake with Sweet Chilli Sauce. Both these were highly tasty, hot and the portion size was just right. This was followed by our mains - Chicken in white wine sauce served with dauphinoise potatoes & Green Veg. Whilst the chicken leg and the vegetables were tasty, hot and well cooked (in a bacon and wine sauce), the chef had unfortunately slightly overdone the seasoning (overly salty and peppery). Dessert was Homemade Lemon and Raspberry Tarte served with homemade Limoncello Ice Cream for me, and Raspberry and Apricot Clafoutis served with homemade Coconut Ice Cream for my wife. Both desserts were delicious, and the coconut I’ve cream was exceptionally tasty! There was a great range of drinks, and the staff were super helpful & friendly. Prices were amazingly good value for money - Set Menu, Two Courses - £20.00 and Three Courses - £23.00! If you are a ‘Friends Extra of the Marlowe’ (Annual Membership Subscription applies), you can get a % discount on this already low price. Not sure how they can do this for the money! Sooooo much better food and service than when we were last here (pre-Covid)! Recommended as a nice way to start your Theatre show, and allows you to chill, get fed and arrive in time for the show relaxed and fed. Made up for the ludicrously high car park price of the Council’s adjacent Pound Lane car park (£12 for three and a half hours!!).

What a fantastic surprise. We booked The Green Room with our tickets for The Greatest Day (Very Good 😉) two courses for £20. Both our meals & starters were excellent. The Sea Bream was the best I’ve ever had. The fish was flaky & skin crispy. My wife had the chicken in a very nice sauce. We’ve both agreed we’d definitely revisit even if we don’t go to a show. The house Pinot is decent as well. So many places ignore this!!! Well done 👏

This is a great way to start the show. The menu is much better than it was on my last visit. The only disappointment was the number of people using the restaurant. There were very few tablets being used for meals, which meant people just coming in for a coffee, some of which seemed to be bringing there own food were allowed in. However, we enjoyed our food and the service was good.

This was a completely disappointing meal from starter to coffee. The starter was a bruschetta, with bread so hard it was inedible, main course roasted hake with undercooked vegetables and a dried out crispy "fondant" potato which was crispy because it was burnt. Normally I don't eat pudding but I thought I'd cheer myself up with lavender infused rice pud - served on a saucer, with no flavour and runny. Coffee, awful

We enjoyed an excellent Indian-themed meal last week, which really added to our good experience at The Marlowe Theatre. Our pre-show 2 course lunch was just right and the chef and the team had put together a highly imaginative menu which complimented our visit to see The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel show. We shared a mix of tasty starters comprising Onion Bhajis and Chicken Tikka with Pappadoms and various chutneys etc, followed by us both choosing the spicy Lamb Kerala Curry and plain naan bread...simply delicious and very well presented.! Thank you for an excellent meal and good attentative service, we will definitely return again soon.! David and Janet

The meal and service was good and timed to coincide with the start of the performance but I was annoyed with the supplementary menu charges. I had booked and paid for two, three course meals, but on being given the menu on the night, there were extra (£2) charges for all the starters, three out of five of the mains and most of the desserts. If you did not want to pay any of these extra charges, your menu choice would have been VERY limited and more or less limited you to vegitarian and one fish option.. I think this is dishonest. I was quite expecting to pay extra for drinks but what is the point of expecting a three course - pre booked meal without knowing about these extra charges that appear on the night??

My last visit everyone was noisily setting up tables for a lunch, shouting to each other. My purpose going there was having a quiet coffee in a nice setting. The worst thing is your drink goes cold after ten minutes because the area is hard to heat, not the fault of the Marlowe I suppose having a cold drink isn't good. Won't be coming again.

Cumberland sausage was one of the best I've eaten with a creamy mash with onion gravy. The main course kitsch was very good but small for a main, more starter size. In the last week, we have popped into The Green Room at the Marlowe twice. The first time we were booking to see a future show and thought we would sample just what The Green Room had to offer. It was very nice. We had coffee and a cake, surrounded by a large selection of greenery on one side and the attractive large Marlowe windows on the other. The view is very relaxing. Looking out to the Meeting House and river, and I think a bronze type of likeness of Dave Lee sitting on a bench. I believe that Dave Lee was a much liked comedian of years past. We liked this tranquil cafe so much, that a few days later we dropped in again to have a relaxing coffee and cake. We noticed that the menu had changed from our first visit, so I guess when you turn up to eat, it can be just about anything. We will try the evening restaurant before our next show perhaps. It certainly takes away the extra rush of eating in one restaurant and making ones way to the Marlowe for a show.

We came to this restaurant one Friday evening with family for dinner and a theatre performance. We all enjoyed a tasty dinner at a good price. The portions were not too large - I wouldn't want to sit through a performance feeling like I had just eaten Christmas lunch. Our waitress looked after us very well and was friendly, warm and efficient. The best bit is that the table is yours for the evening because the restaurant is part of the Marlowe theatre, so you can pre order your interval drinks and they are waiting for you at your table - but it gets better - you can have your dessert during the interval as well (you would need to pre order dessert too). We all agreed that it was such a civilised, relaxed way to enjoy a visit to the theatre and we will be back for sure.

Everything was great, the value for the meal, the atmosphere was nice and relaxed, the service quick and friendly. But most importantly the pie. I had the steak and ale pie from the panto menu and it was unbelievably delicious, I've already booked to come back before the end of the panto season just to have that pie again and try something else from the menu. The friend I was with had the Turkey Burger and I've never seen him happier. Honestly the best food I've eaten in a long while.

My partner and I had a lovely dinner in the Green Room on a Sunday evening, the food was delicious and prepared/served all in good time. We weren't actually there to dine before seeing a show, we just wanted to come in to try the food and we weren't disappointed! The service was very friendly and professional, the atmosphere is an interesting mix of both quiet and lively... It's quiet enough to have a chat and a relaxing meal, however being that the restaurant is located in the theatre itself, it gives the Green Room a slight 'buzz' in energy to it. The food is locally sourced, the menu changes seasonally and it was all great value for money; we'd highly recommend!

The waiting staff were polite and pleasant. However, we had to wait 45 minutes for our meal. It sounded good, but eccentric, on the menu. However, the potato was stale, and had clearly been warmed up. The beef had been slowly cooked. Unfortunately, it had been overcooked, with the strings of beef that inevitably formed sticking to the teeth.

Visited today before a matinee. Seated immediately and waitress was attentive, pleasant and efficient We ate from pre-show menu. Bread was brought to the table straight away and was lovely. My friend's soup was good and my Thai fish cakes, whilst slightly overcooked were spicy and tasted authentic. We both had sea bream with roasted potatoes and it was delicious - beautifully cooked. Yum!

Dining in the Green Room takes the stress out of pre theatre dining..... no getting a table.....trying to pay the bill etc to make sure you arrive at the theatre on time..... you just have to stroll across the auditorium. The food is good , the menu reasonably varied and the staff friendly,,,,,, service was a little slow.

My Wife and I ordered the two course meal here before a show. I'd say it was reasonable value for the website price we paid. The main courses and deserts were pretty good quality without being spectacular. The service was good. If I had a criticism, I'd say the food could have been hotter when it got to the table. Other than that, it was all ok.

The idea is great. A pre-show meal at the theatre, but this was not good at any price. The menu is not extensive and that's OK , a limited number of dishes usually means that they can be properly prepared and served, this was not the case on our visit. We went for the three course option and at just under twenty quid per head I was not expecting to be taken on a trip to culinary heaven so expectations were not that high....First course, Onion Terrine for the wife,,,,OK, but nothing more. I went for Thai fish cakes, but was served three small orange dumpling things that may have been deep fried in about February but now had the texture of a mattress and no fish taste at all. The waiter was genuinely surprised when I expressed my thoughts about our first course...But hang on this was a meal at a theatre (actors?)Main. I had a very pleasant piece of beef, with a small spoonful of mashed potato, presented with a flourish it was the better choice than the one my better half went for. Pan Fried Sea Bass on a bed of saute'd leek...Sumptuous it wasn't. The fish was so ovecooked that it was almost inedible whilst the leeks were tough (How this was achieved I have no idea). Our waiter, a stalwart fellow then asked how that course had fared, and my wife fixed him with a look that is normally reserved for those who spill curry on her carpet. He beat a hasty retreat only to return a few moments later to inform us that there was no time to serve the puddings as the show was about to start. We would have to return at the interval, (not a bad idea actually) he then followed up by telling us we had to settle the bill before leaving, I pointed out that I had pre-paid for the meal and drinks had consisted of a glass of water and a diet coke, AND HE HAD OUR PUDDINGS! My wife was about to deliver another death stare, so I paid the £1.95 I owed and we came back at the interval and puddings were OK (No cooking you see)This review may seem harsh, but the restaurant tends to be fully booked before a performance and surely the chef should have known this and set his menu accordingly. Perhaps I ask too much? but elsewhere in the city other restaurants manage to serve well cooked meals to theatre goers at a very similar cost. So don't miss the show just eat elsewhere.

Used many times and is my 2nd favorite coffee stop in Canterbury (that is GOOD, because there's lots of competition). Coffee is always good, a few cakes etc. and, so far, always good and friendly service. Have a bonus card system.

We booked a last minute table at the Green Room, which we seem to always do, as we pre-book all our tickets way in advance. We have always enjoyed eating here and this time was no different. Natalie is a great server and a star.We arrived a little late but taking our table was no problem. It was all good, the food is a bit slow arriving but it is always worth the wait. The staff are friendly and helpful - there is nothing not to like here. My husband has problems cutting food and always needs a steak knife, Natalie had remembered, but the kitchen didn't have a suitable knife, but the manager got one from the bar, which worked a treat. Natalie told us that they are now considering getting a few steak knives, as my husband is not the only one with this problem.Great customer service - what's not to like!

We decided to book a pre-theatre meal and found the whole experience great. The venue is smart and relaxed and the dishes were tasty, well presented and creative. Good sized portions and good value for money. The service was also good, friendly and efficient.

Booked in for a two course meal at £16-50 at the Green Room and arrived just after 6pm (performance starts at 7-30pm), the restaurant is bright and sensibly furnished with glass walls overlooking a pedestrian area next to the river. That open space includes a couple of brilliant sculptures, one is called Bulkhead, the other a "bench" made famous in Canterbury Panto's by the wonderful theatre Dame Dave Lee. He occupies one end of that bench but is now sadly missed in this world but thankfully the kids can still sit on his shoulders! We had a very tasty, leisurely starter and main course from a straight forward but limited menu and all the better for it bearing in mind the obvious time frame of a pre-performance meal. The staff were polite, smartly dressed, helpful and seemed very much part of a team and I think a credit to the Marlowe. We could have paid an extra £3 and had a pudding but had had enough to eat and finished up with an excellent cup of coffee. Drinks with your dinner are not cheap, around normal resultant prices locally, couple of glasses of wine £12 or so.I understand that the menu is changed on a seasonal basis and uses local Kentish ingredients. A vegetarian option is included. Probably best to book a meal along with your theatre tickets, the numbers of tables available is fairly limited and seems to be busy almost every visit.

Went to the Marlowe this evening and booked a two course meal at The Green Room. The service was great from all of the staff and there the positives end. My partner and I both started with "Ham hock terrine with sour dough melba toast and piccalilli". The piccalilli in my opinion was beautiful with crunchy ingredients, the sour dough melba toast was so overcooked you could not differentiate the flavour of the sour dough from normal melba toast. The Ham hock terrine lacked flavour of any kind and really did not stand out as the focal point to the dish. Thought ok this can happen and maybe it is just personal taste. Now the main course.Slow-cooked oxtail ravioli with thyme roasted mushrooms, wilted spinach and beef broth. How can oxtail ravioli and beef broth have no depth of flavour or body? Well here it is proven that it can. The ravioli tasted stale and had been pre-cooked days before. Really disappointing all around. We left half of the starters and most of the main course and made our exit. What a real shame as the Marlowe is a wonderful venue and Mamma Mia was simply amazing.Maybe just an off night? Not so sure!

We booked a last minute table at the Green Room and we arrived a little early. We have always enjoyed eating here and this time it was OK. The service seemed slow, but when the food came it was hot and delicious. I was concerned that we wouldn't get time to have a dessert, but my husband had time to have one. On this occasion we weren't offered any drinks when we had finished ours either, so service was a bit lacking on this . If I had really wanted one I would have asked but on the other hand if I had been asked I may have had one.

My friend and I always have a pre-show meal here and it has never failed to give us good food and value for money. Yesterday the chef and staff went the extra mile to provide 2 vegetarian dishes that were not salad, as that was the only choice on the menu. We were provided with excellent alternatives by the chef and kind and polite staff, cannot praise them all too highly. Lastly they brought out a cake provided by my friend and sang happy birthday to you while I blew the candles out. Made my day! Again many thanks for the wonderful service from everyone.

Had a pre- theatre meal here on 9 May. The choice of food was far from extensive and, even then, some of the dishes were off by 6:30pm. The food was over cooked and dry. The service sloppy and, despite it being part of the Marlowe theatre, they could not time the meal to meet the start of the performance. Not good at all. Try Dems on the corner 100 m away. It is far far superior and they get you to the theatre in good time in a relaxed way.

This is the perfect place to eat before a performance in the Marlowe Theatre. The menu may be limited but it is of remarkable standard for the price you pay. In addition, if you wish you can come back for your sweet in the interval or even come back to finish your bottle of wine. The menu changes roughly every two months so for most theatre goers that will probably mean a new menu each time! Choice of two or three courses for under £20.
