Booked a family lunch for seven people at midday. Wanted an early booking as my wife has mobility issues and we wanted a quiet time of day. Had a great time and all the staff were very helpful and friendly. All meals were excellent value , well cooked and arrived in good time. The pub has had its up and downs recently but all seems to be well at the moment and a very enjoyable time was had by all. Keep it up guys!

What has happened? This pub is defo not as it used to be , the steak I had was pretty awful, chewy and like a slab of rock ( yes I had well done but never had this issue before ) the chips were cooked in old oil , you could taste it , the cheesy garlic bread was just to thick , barely any garlic and way to much cheese. Our starter was just over cooked So sad to see how it’s looking old and shabby all over , needs a overhaul

The Green Man hosted wake and what a fabulous service. They went above and beyond to make sure that we had everything we needed. The food, service and care they provided was excellent. A great family pub, great vibe and a wonderful place for families. Thank you.

Was here today with mother law and sister in law and had the worst service by the staff very rude manager was all so rude will.never eat here again avoid like the plague manager.needs to.go and learn common decency and manners

Popped in as I remembered being told the fish and chips on a Friday is very good. Hubby ordered fish and chips and I ordered scampi. We waited 50 minutes for our meal. Chips were overcooked to a frazzle, some burnt. I asked for tartare sauce. After 10 minutes I went to ask again at the bar. It was then bought to me and was a runny white sauce not really tasting much like tartare sauce. I complained about the wait and burnt chips and was just told “sorry”! The pub is very grubby, furniture completely worn and pub needs a full refurbishment. Very disappointed as it used to be good. I won’t be returning.

Great food! My husband and I both had ribeye steak cooked to perfection. We love the Stilton sauce so always go for that. After eight cheesecake was amazing. Service was prompt and the lovely young girl that served us was happy to answer the questions I asked. Will definitely be coming down in the summer as the garden looks fab! Highly recommend!

We visited the pub yesterday evening for a birthday there was 10 of us. This is what was bad about the meals . Steaks fatty with a lot of grizzle in them. Chips cooked then warmed up by cooking again not freshly cooked very over cooked. Burgers over cooked and dry bacon very salty. Breakfasts even the eggs over cooked fries under cooked. Lamb shank replaced as it was tough it couldn’t be eaten. Mixed grill couldn’t be eaten over cooked and dry so was taken off the bill. The starters were ok nothing special. Breaded mushrooms over cooked and hard. Very poor choice on the menu no where near as good as it used to be. The kids wanted pudding so we took it away as we didn’t want to stay any longer. No offer of refunds on the meals. Stephanie FOH was very nice and tried her best but we won’t be returning. The chef wants sacking or retraining or if they don’t want to do their best don’t do the job . We paid a lot of money for crap food and night.

We visited the pub for a birthday dinner, we were greeted by the foh team who were all lovely. We ordered drinks and starters quite promptly. The starters we had were ok but nothing special. The problems occurred with our main meals, to list a few things wrong, steaks were fatty, chips were overcooked, fries were undercooked, burgers were overcooked and dry, and nothing was hot. We had one meal replaced and one meal taken off the bill, we should have had more taken off but by this point we couldn’t be bothered to argue. The kids wanted pudding but we didn’t want to stay anymore so they took theirs home in tubs. It’s unfortunate we experienced this as a few years ago this pub was amazing on food. Unfortunately now it seems the chef either can’t be bothered, or needs more training or just needs to take pride in their job. We won’t be returning. But thank you to stephanie on foh you were amazing in helping us.

Chose to go for Mother's Day after seeing good feedback from others, particularly around allergies. I messaged in advance and had a good response so felt positive. We arrived and were seated. It took 20 minutes for someone to take our drinks order, and she looked totally baffled when I asked what the wine options were. We mentioned on arrival that there were allergies and that I had been in contact in advance. At no point when we finally got to order our food - 30 mins after arrival - did they ask for allergy information. I had to tell them, twice! We then waited another 25 minutes for our starters. My starter had a hair in it! Unsurprisingly I didn't want another, but all they then offered was a free drink. After our starters it was another half an hour wait for our main meal! My son by this point was screaming for food as he was so hungry. The only reason I gave 2/5 is because one understanding waiting staff member made sure that they didn't put any extras on his plate (he is autistic) and they let him swap potatoes for chips. We won't be planning on returning any time soon.

Went for Sunday Lunch, Main and Dessert for £18.95 is resonable. Food tasted ok, the parsnips were a little hard for my palate. I am told the Bakewell tart was gorgeous, but I was disappointed the Apple Crumble was made using oats. The custard was excellent though.

Had the festive menu and the Christmas dinner was delicious , the service was great too. The restaurant was really busy but the food came out really hot which was great. Dessert was delicious too with lots of choice. Will definitely be going back again for dinner.

Great food, lovely friendly service. I would definitely recommend. They had 5 vegan options, 7 vegetarian options. Everyone really enjoyed their food, it was a very busy lunch time, but the service was really good. The staff really attentive.

We have visited here many times in the past, but this time it wasn’t as good. There were 9 of us out for a birthday lunch. Most of us opted for the roast dinner. But unfortunately it wasn’t anything soecial. Roast potatoes were huge but over cooked. The stuffing ball was so over cooked when you cut it it just crumbled. Broccoli was hard and it just wasn’t great overall. Price was good at £16.95 it also came with a pudding. The pudding was the best bit. Compared to how this pub used to be it has gone downhill.

went to the Green Man today as a birthday treat with the family. There were 7 Adults, 1 child and 2 babies. One of the adults is Gluten free and when we go anywhere food is limited for him. However there was a large variety of foods and great choice for him. The menu is great with lots of choice for both adults and children Inc a variety of specials. The staff were lovely and they didn't rush you like some places do. The food tasted amazing and everyone enjoyed what they had especially the desserts. After we had finished the outside space gave the children somewhere to have a run around before being put in the car to come home. Thankyou to all for a lovely Sunday afternoon. Can't recommend enough.

Been some time since we visited, on an iffy August Monday & as we took our puppy we had to sit outside luckily under cover & took a sheltered table, I chose a (well cooked) gammon steak, egg, chips & the longtime owner scampi & chips, both nicely cooked and it's a you emptied your plates sort of food, but the really tasty, crunchy, morish chips were absolutely brilliant, chips generally are something you fill a plate with! My daughters and myself have visited this lovely country pub a few times over the last couple of months and every time it has been amazing. Lovely friendly staff and delicious food.would definitely recommend anyone that is passing to go and enjoy the delicious food on offer.

this pub has changed hands a few time in recent years, it now seems to be on track, we went as a large family group, and had traditional Sunday Roast, it was lovely, the veges were fresh and cooked to perfection, not under cooked nor over cooked, just right as Golilocks would say! meat was generous, I had a seniors serve, and it was more than enough. the entire party enjoyed their meals, especially the younger members or our group.

The Green Man at Shepreth, near Royston, was recommended to me by a friend many moons ago. I am so glad I heeded his advice and dropped by. Not withstanding the hiatus during the Covid pandemic, my wife and I have now been fairly regular visitors to this very friendly and well-run establishment for the past fourteen years or so. And to use an appropriate metaphor, the proof of the pudding is in the eating. The cuisine is excellent in every respect - plenty of choice, competitively priced, served hot, and exactly as it should be. The establishment is also conveniently situated just off the main A10 trunk road so it's easy to get to with ample parking. And these factors have made it attractive to our extended family who accompany us on special occasions such as birthdays and wedding anniversaries (42 years and counting, and of course my wife and I chose to celebrate our last anniversary at The Green Man). That is significant because for important events, it is best to stick with a proven venue, than to risk going elsewhere to a place with an unknown reputation, and court disaster on what should be an enjoyable celebration. No such worries with The Green Man. The staff too have always been most courteous and eager to help, looking after our every need. Nothing is too much trouble for them, and that is why The Green Man at Shepreth is so popular and rightly deserves five stars.

Went out for a meal with friends. The restaurant is too small for the amount of tables crammed in was cramped sitting against a wall with no legroom at all. Meal was very dry, we chose various options but all was the same and overcooked. My husband is Coeliac and there was no indication on the menu what was gluten free, he had to rely on the waitresses opinion went for a well known safe choice but not convinced the kitchen or staff knew what is meant by gluten free with cooking. We go out frequently with our friends to have a meal and like to try different places local to us. This was the worst place we have tried, meal not good, service average and so noisy and cramped. Should have walked out really.

Went with family for an Easter Sunday treat and was very pleased to see this pub has improved immensely since our last visit under the previous landlord. Our last visit was extremely disappointing but we now have great food once again and friendly staff. Food was exactly what a Sunday roast should be, very tasty, well cooked and plenty of it. Our only disappointment was we were seated in the main bar area right opposite a group of drinkers on bar chairs and they obviously didn’t like the table being behind them and made it quite obvious. We appreciate that we were advised we would be seated in the bar area as they were very busy and you can’t blame the staff if some of their customers are less considerate than others. Perhaps it would be advisable to temporarily remove the bar chairs when the pub is full to capacity, and the bar area is being used as an extension to the restaurant, either that or consider changing the sizeable bar chairs for bar stools which take up less room. Despite feeling a bit uncomfortable we still enjoyed our visit and would recommend the Green Man for an excellent pub meal. Considering it was Easter weekend at less busy times next time, hopefully, we can book a table in the restaurant.

Went for meal, it was fabulous, was a set menu, table was ready on time. Great waiting staff, very friendly and helpful, some if the party couldn't manage a pudding, so the waitress offered to put it in a container,so they could take it home for later. The roast beef was cooked to perfection, huge portions. We were given mother's day biscuits to bring home, which was a really lovely gesture.

A member of our party Pre-booked before. Friendly staff greeted us & walked to our table. Our drink orders were taken & promptly delivered to us. The mixers/gas in the pump fizzy drinks didn’t taste nice, when we mentioned this to the friendly waiter, he took our drinks & changed them immediately. No one from our party ordered starters. We headed straight onto the Mains. Myself & my Sister-in-law ordered a Whole Rack of Ribs, my Mother-in-law ordered the Mediterranean Vegetable Risotto from the Specials Board, my partner’s Auntie ordered Plaice & Chips from the Specials Board & another member of our party ordered Grilled Chicken that came with Jacket Potato & salad. The food came quickly, great portion sizes (very plentiful). Good pub grub. A few of us had enough room for Dessert, I had the Sticky Toffee Pudding with Custard. Again, good Pub Grub but they have the potential to improve. Our meal & drinks came to £140.00 for 5people.

We had to rearrange our planned Boxing Day lunch due to several people falling ill, I was extremely pleased with the way Alan & his team dealt with the cancellation. Once we were happy that we could rearrange I contacted The Green Man to rebook. Nothing was too much trouble- the food we had (from the Xmas menu) was excellent (good portion sizes, hot and served quickly). Nobody could manage a dessert - everyone said they enjoyed their meals. I must say all the meals coming out of the kitchens looked hot and delicious.

Left it too late to book but got a table in the bar .. very busy day for the pub as was full in both restaurant and bar ...ordered our food and wasn’t long before it arrived... all looked really well presented and even better tasted good . We had rack of ribs , 3 roast chicken and one child’s meal followed by crumble with ice cream bakewell tart and 2 chocolate desserts . Always enjoy coming here and will be back !

We've been here many times and enjoyed Sunday lunch. But got fed up with peas and carrots every time. We've been today and felt very disappointed with the main meal. The sprouts were rock hard tasteless carrots. The starter was lovely and the dessert. We'd rung up 3times in the last few weeks. But still didn't get asked what meat we would like. There was no atmosphere at all. Just a very noisy young girl who didn't stop shouting. We won't go back.

I had one of the best Sunday Lunches I've ever had in a Pub anywhere and although it was very busy (which endorses my review) the food and service was excellent. If you don't wish to have the traditional lunch you can choose from a very varied menu. I will be back. Highly recommended.

This is an amazing restaurant that we visit when we come to Cambridge and we can’t fault the food - Fridays fish and chips are amazing and we really recommend it!

This was a family get together and it is indeed a very nice place. The food was excellent, piping hot and served in good time. My only gripe as a non alcohol drinker was the very poor selection of alcohol free beer. In this day and age where people are encouraged to be vegan, GF and indeed alcohol free I am surprised this place isn't following this trend.

Popped in for Sunday lunch on the way back from a four day break. The Green Man was busy which is quite normal, the staff are friendly and hardworking. Our orders were taken - my wife had the pork roast, I had the lamb, we didn’t have to wait long. The meals were really good, plenty of meat, nice roast potatoes- we couldn’t find fault (my wife has a gluten free diet- she had a Yorkshire pudding which she enjoyed not many places offer this). The roast dinner is excellent value - a dessert is included in the price- we took our desserts home as we were full. We came to "The Green Man" for the first time to celebrate our 50th Wedding Anniversary with our family in July, at the recommendation of my hairdresser, the most astute restaurant critic I've ever known! We obviously wanted the occasion to be special, and it was - the food, the atmosphere, the friendliness of the staff, all contributed to creating a really memorable experience that our children and grandchildren still talk about. We don't eat out often, but when some old friends wanted to celebrate the 51st anniversary of meeting us, "The Green Man" was our venue of choice - and, again, it didn't let us down! Although we were late, due to our friends being held up in traffic, the staff were unflappable and made us very welcome. (I do like being served by staff who treat you professionally as a customer, rather than grovelling round you!). We were served attentively, drinks turned up promptly while we thought about the menu, and the food itself was quick and excellent. Another great experience - thank you, staff of "The Green Man" (including the kitchen crew).

we use this pub a fair bit, it gets very busy at weekends, they offer a gluten free meal. its has a good selection of beers and larger, it is bog standard food and drink, always been happy with it,

Well where do I start. Was it the staff? ... Well it certainty wasn't the lovely lady in the Raybans. If it wasn't for her blood would have been drawn I'm sure...
