Classic English pub without any classic English pub food. Just American fast food, burgers, pizzas etc. sorry for the moan but do pubs not do ploughman’s lunches any more? Otherwise a decent pint and okay food.

Apparently, our Scottish money is worthless! I've used this pub on and off for 48 years. Although I've moved away and returned more than once during that time, I've always found time to pop in for a pint as I did earlier this evening to be told quite firmly that they do not accept Scottish money due to one bad experience with an Irish note in the past. I drove 10 1/2 hours to the village to stay with my mother for a week and was really looking forward to a pint or two (within easy walking distance from parents house btw!). In the last few years of my father's life, I took him for a game of dominoes and a couple of beers every Sunday lunchtime up until he passed away, so good memories. Those memories are now muddied due to an attitude that borders on the ridiculous. Sure, no legal requirement to take Scottish notes, but in the years I've travelled between there and here, NOT ONCE has my money been refused. So, bye bye Plough, I'll never darken your doorstep again! I’ll go and spend my ‘toy’ money elsewhere.

Drove past this pub and decided to stop for a quick beer. Got inside and asked for a pint of IPA, which I remember was always a good beer. The barman stated that they hadn’t served that for about six years when it was a Green King house. I was offered a Doom bar, which in fairness turned out to be a cracking pint. We found the pub to be warm and welcoming.

We ordered: A large meat one- prosciutto, pepperoni and salami A medium veg one - butternut squash and sage A garlic and mozzarella pizza bread Two gelato’s for afters, which were salted caramel and dark chocolate. Would we return - yes. Super important to stay local and support our independent and small businesses at the awful time. 10/10.

Please note that this is now under new ownership. The previous owner was not well liked by most! Shame as he really updated the pub but we avoided the place and went to the somewhat dated but well run Square & Compass just down the road. Completely understand the previous post re grouchy previous landlord! Sounds like you had one of his better days... Now run by S&C manager - way way better and back to what it always should have been. Given it's the best looking / condition pub in the village I hope it can regain some of its custom.

It was our first visit to the Willow Tree in a few years. We have always enjoyed the food in the past. We booked a dome for a special family celebration, an early evening dinner booking. We were "greeted" by a wholly disinterested lady (the manager?) and a few young staff who were friendly enough, if a bit chaotic. We were showed to our dome, which was charming and beautiful. One of the servers helped to set up the Bluetooth speaker and then also helped some people who just arrived at another table who kept connecting to ours! It was a shame that the menu on Saturday evening was different from the Autumn menu advertised on the website, with fewer appealing options - no pork belly, no venison, no tarte tatin. The food service was extremely slow, especially considering we were the first diners arriving in the early evening. Nibbles were brought late, after the starters rather than with the drinks. Our starters, when they eventually arrived, were delicious. The scallop dish contained only 2 scallops. The scotch egg was lovely and more generous. The mains were extremely disappointing. The steak (sirloin) was apparently very well cooked, served with fries and an absolutely tiny amount of sauce, no accompanying veg or salad. For £35 this was underwhelming. The herb crusted pork was actually horrible. Two of our party ordered this, and had to scrape off the herb crust - whole cumin seeds and other seared spices inelegantly applied in a thick pungent layer. It was a very, very unpleasant flavour. We wondered whether the chef had actually tasted this creation. The pork loin itself was nothing special, tough and worse than we would cook at home. Three people had burgers, they all said they were just fine. The portions of fries, though tasty, were terribly inconsistent in serving size some people having twice as many as others. Everyone agreed the fries were the best part of the mains! We did raise the concerns about the disappointing mains to the server, who was very apologetic and nice about it and said they would tell chef. Finally, we chose some puddings, and two of the orders came out wrong, the crumbles served with ice cream instead of custard. The crumble looked like it was served in a dog bowl. The sticky toffee pudding was delicious, but very small indeed for £10 per portion. Overall, slow and inconsistent service, very poor & disappointing food, and an expensive evening. Our bill came to over £320 for 6 diners, only two people had alcoholic drinks. We were not offered any deductions for the poor food or slow service. The best part about the evening was the ambience of the twinkling domes and the dramatic willow tree in the garden.
