Booked for lunch with my family. A cold draught cut through the building, the middle aged waitress was as miserable as sin. She did not smile at us once, with a curt attitude. The meal was reasonable but certainly exceptional. I have given the service 1 star but quite frankly it was rude. There are plenty of other venues close by who respect their customers. I most certainly will not be returning.

This is a great place to walk from. Best to book. They can be busy. The site also has an Italian delicate essence that does really good coffee and has provisions to die for. Go up the road past the big house and there is a field with some sculptures in it. A well kept secret until now.

Stunning rooms! Lovely cosy Pub. We loved our stay here and will definitely be back. We had a ground floor room with a semi-private garden area to sit and soak up the sun. The beds are large and the bathrooms pristine clean, and just cute in every way. The Inn served lovely foods, from dinner to breakfast. Very good value in every way. We had the Fish and Sunday Roast. Generous portions, and very tasty. Breakfast had lots of choices - we had the full English and the Smashed Avo on Rye - delicious. Great staff and pretty farmers market cafe alongside

I've been to several pubs during my trip to England. The Green Dragon is definitely my favorite so far. The food is superb and the atmosphere is welcoming and old English. My wife and I shared the Fish and Chips along with the burger. Both were very delicious and the desert of Chocolate strawberry pudding ended our meal in an exceptionally grand treat. For those of you that enjoy the suds, there are a large variety of beers on tap. I highly recommend visiting here.

Stayed here for two nights as a group for a family wedding nearby. Rooms a little pricey (but that's the Cotswolds I guess), but all very lovely. Breakfast was great, and all the staff were very helpful and attentive. Big shout out to Mel. So helpful and accommodating. Had dinner one night, food was lovely and again service was really good, especially since we were a table of 12 and the pub as a whole was packed. Just wanted to say a big thank you to all the team for an amazing meal last night, I'm not one to give praise lightly and the quality of the food and the service was unbeatable. I have never had steak like it. You think you've had a nice steak but then you go here and find out how it's really supposed to be done, I had the rump and it was cooked to sheer perfection 👌 I only ever dreamed it could be cooked exactly how i like it. it was accompanied bybgreat big bowls of chips and vegetables which, was cooked nicely, but the steak... I was truly blown away. The atmosphere was lovely and rhe inn has a stunning olde world charm, which makes for a cosy and intimate setting, we did have a very large group of guys behind us that was unbelievably loud to the point where you wa shouting at the person opposite you just to have a conversation but you can't have it all i guess, The staff are wonderful and could not of been mote attentive. The drinks were the most perfect accompaniment to the meal and a clear informative wine list really helped in choosing what we liked. Dessert finished the evening and the creme brulee and sticky toffee pudding again perfect 👌 Thank you again to all of you at the Green Dragon who worked so hard to give us alovely evening.

Lovely pub, stunning shop, great staff. Food was good rather than great. It might be that the British options on the menu are better than non-British. The "bruschetta" was bad - like Dorito dip on toast, not very fresh olives - simply diced tomatoes with a drizzle of nice olive oil would've been better.

The Green Dragon Inn is a beautiful, small Cotswolds country house style hotel offering a unique experience. The old pub from 1675 on site gives the place a special historical charm. Our room was cozy and newly renovated, which made the stay very pleasant. Breakfast was excellent and a good deal at £15 per person. The hotel's location is ideal for exploring the surrounding Cotswolds, with Bourton on the Water just 25 minutes' drive away. Free parking spaces are also available directly at the hotel.

Lunch was excellent we both had fish pie, mine salad the wife’s with vegetables both presented in lovely plate’s etc, I had a beer which was very good nice to see a well kept cellar of tapped beers. Finished off with a lovely cheesecake. Popped into shop next door and bought some nice biscuits for later, overall a great lunchtime in a lovely setting, will pop in again.

Excellent Fish and Chips and Seafood 🥧 Pie. I agree with some of the other reviews about the reception and attentiveness of staff. Perhaps it was because they were busy, but that shouldn't be an excuse. It's a "beer pub" so no local ciders, which is a shame. Good location, although the road is used as a local rat run, so be careful when exiting the car park

I was lucky enough to spend a night here on a recent trip. Arrived in pouring rain so couldn’t really appreciate the surroundings. Had already asked for a ground floor room as we had lots of luggage. Room was fine, just gets quite a bit of noise from other rooms, people in the room upstairs, water noises etc. Shower was a bit tricky to operate to ended up having a bath instead….. Bed was very comfy. Had dinner in the restaurant and it was absolutely lovely. So many good menu choices that we ended up over-eating - entree, main and shared cheese for dessert. My Cornish sardines for entree were delicious - would have been enough as my main but had already ordered the salmon. Salmon was ok; huge salad on the side which was fresh and delicious. The cheese platter was excellent. All in all a lovely spot with great food - clearly a popular place as all tables in the restaurant were full on a week night!

Great Scenic Pub, shame about staff We were driving back from Cheltenham and noticed this little gem. From the outside it's very picturesque and makes you want to stop just to admire it's position. We parked behind the pub however there is parking on the opposite side of the road which is more accessible. We arrived just as the kitchen was closing (220pm) so had to rush our order which wasn't that nice. The menu is slightly overpriced in the mains however the sandwiches are more reasonable. The bar girl looked so sad and just didn't want to be there as she was very dry. So we ordered a fish finger sandwich and a chicken Caesar sandwich. The fish finger sandwich was pretty tasteless and was taken straight from the freezer. I was expecting home made fish fingers, however its hard to find a chef that doesn't throw frozen food into the fryer. The chicken Caesar sandwich was just as tasteless as the fish finger one, again chucking pieces of chicken and salad on a sandwich isn't exactly rocket science. Hence the reason why the sandwiches are a tenner, zero effort, maximum profit. Overall we enjoyed the view which was more pleasant that being served by blondie. Recommendation Go and do what the asian tourists do, park up take photos and go to a decent pub. #garystribe #localguide #letsguide #pubs #pubfood

Tricky, can't decide how best to review this. The location is in the middle of nowhere, but that's what you want/expect in the countryside? So it is walkable within reason. Anyway, the pub itself was rather cool, ducks and twists, ups and downs. There's more than what appears when you first enter. Most of the staff were friendly, approachable but one I felt was kinda blunt and short when delivering our food and the last, who we asked the bill for ended up standing at the bar, drinking a beer and rolling a cigarette while we waited so we could pay and be on our way. Over £12 for a large wine and a pint of beer, feels a tad much. I had the whitebait for starters, overall it was okay but the batter was a bit too crispy for my liking. Which also took away from the flavour because it had been fried too much. Rump steak for mains, asked for mid-to-rare but more on the rare side. As you can see in the photo, this is not what I asked for. All our meals were luke warm at best, except the chips they were hot. No one bothered to come and make sure everything was okay with the food, otherwise we would've said something. Don't want to be running round looking for staff while I'm meant to be eating... Anyway, we left pretty quick, didn't bother sticking round for another drink. Car park - massive. Toilets - 1 for men and 1 for females. Kid/dog friendly - so very loud. Wouldn't go back.

Just so poor. I’d suggest they remember that even on a Tuesday in February that a warm welcome, non microwaved food and a roaring fire is what anyone goes for …. Sadly we got the opposite (whilst also being told we had to be in the pub before 8pm for last food orders despite last orders on their website saying 8.30pm). I’m always hopeful that when eating out it genuinely delivers something that I can’t do in 5 minutes from a supermarket ready meal served with that elusive quality of genuine hospitality (especially as there seemed to be more staff than Customers) . The other reviews here genuinely baffle me - I know the hospitality industry is suffering … perhaps some of this is of their own making ?

Nice pub, great real open fires, staff were pleasant. We ordered fish finger sandwiches on a choice of white or granary bread choosing granary - £10.95 each so for my wife and I almost £22.00 for two fish finger sandwiches. They arrived on wholemeal with no explanation or apology so that was the first disappointment. The salad garnish and few crisps on the side were ok. The fish fingers were budget and not a premium fish finger so 2nd disappointment - at that price you would expect the chef would use a quality product - but no.

A beautiful building with some exciting Thompson "mouseman" bar tops and tables and chairs which were so unusual to see! The log fires added to the overall positive ambience. The beers were varied and good. A great start. Sadly that was the end of the positives of our visit. The food which wins accolades elsewhere here, was poor and overpriced, the service was functional. Several of us had steak and kidney puddings with mushy peas. The pies were remarkable, - for their LACK of steak and kidney AND flavour! two small pieces of beef and one piece of kidney and a strangely flavourless suet patry casing with lots of flavour lacking gravy. The fish pies were equally disappointing, lacking in any quantity of fish and prawns, and the burger possibly the best buy of that day - rated as "alright". I was not convinced that the puddings were not bought in rather than made on the promises and came to the same conclusion about the panko crumbed king prawns I had as a starter - they at least had flavour if appearing to be made of chopped prawns and uniformly shaped. I could of course be wrong about that but it doesn't really matter, what does matter is that they were expensive and poor value for money.. I must say that I think there's nothing intrinsically wrong with buying in dishes but at these prices I expect better quality whether bought in or home made.

This was a very disappointing experience. The ambience of the Inn was great and the service acceptable. However, the food was way below the standard I expected from reading the reviews. My partner and I had the Fish Pie, a complete misnomer, with just a small quantity of mushy fish with an overload of herbs that dominated the flavour. For what it was, it was vastly overpriced as were the dishes our friends had. I would not fecommend it, nor will I be going back any time soon.

Strange start to the evening with a waitress who seemed displeased we'd called in to have dinner--she veered towards Basil Fawlty territory and annoyingly brought a bottle of white wine that wasn't chilled put into an empty bucket so I had to ask if we could have some ice in it so the wine would actually chill! After that things were fine and the food was perfectly acceptable. I had mushroom with goats cheese as a starter which was very good and then the turkey fricassee which was ok if a little bland. My wife had a starter of caesar salad which was enormous and would have served as a main course.

A little slice of heaven with added tranquility - Lovely greeting upon arrival from the girls behind the bar, I missed dinner but was offered a cheese board and pint - and for that I was most thankful. peaceful, relaxing, friendly but not overly in your face. I will return and leave enough time to sample the menu next time and take in more of the surroundings too. Rooms were quirky and fabulous and suited my needs in every way. Like with all trips to new places if you open your mind to new experiences, you will only have a great experience. It’s a bit off the beaten track but well worth seeking out and google maps takes you straight there.

We walk the dogs around this area and have been meaning to stop and have a meal for quite a while. So, we booked a table, a week and a day in advance, for an early evening on a Thursday and were looking forward to it. We were shown to a table in the bar and after having people standing and brushing up against the table, asked to be moved. It looked like all the tables were reserved, but the waitress swapped us to another table in a quieter area and we were grateful for this. The food was of general pub quality, and now we’ve been once, we don’t feel the need to return again. The waitress service was really good, she was friendly, helpful and was engaging with everyone. In all, it took two hours from sitting to getting the bill for a main and pudding.

Love love love this place! Stayed one night en route to Devon. It was so delightful. A comfortable room, stunning views, attention to detail, a decent bed! It was a travellers rest indeed, and both the evening food service and breakfast were excellent.

We were locuy to get a table as chance diners, this restaurant is obviously somewhere where one needs to book. A good menu with several fish choices and several vegetarian choices. An excellent choice of wines by the glass as well as by the bottle and a very well put together wine list which showed alcohol grades. Service was excellent even though the house was very busy. The car park is over the road so a bit further than ideal for those of reduced mobility who may prefer to be dropped outside before the car is parked.

Excellent service, excellent food, standard prices, atmospheric Cotswold pub. Been coming here for years and always look forward to it. A special planned evening meal with family from overseas and a hoped for opportunity to catch-up over a nice meal BUT utterly spoilt by a riotous children’s party in the restaurant area which made it virtually impossible to hear each other speak 😡 No one would grudge children a party but not in the evening and not in the main dining area. Sadly we will not be back - a real pity -

Lovely traditional country pub with good food. It can get busy, so booking ahead is recommendede. It has a large car park across the lane from the pub itself and a charming beer garden. We enjoyed the home-made fish pie and the traditional fish and chips. Food was freshly cooked and served hot and the staff were great. Pity we did not have time to go back!

Seems to have taken a nosedive in terms of service and quality. This used to be a great place to come and relax but not anymore.I understand it's been bought out ( franchise). My latest and last experience...The coffee was awful. Lots of young male staff just hanging around behind the service area, stale cakes. Won't be going back again.
