The Green Dragon in Warrington

We’ve always loved going to the Green Dragon but last nights experience was spoilt by the attitude of some of the serving staff. Always had lovely smiley staff previously but not so last night. One young woman was positively unwelcoming and not very friendly. Would always give GD 5 stars before but this spoilt our experience last night.

Great food, fantastic atmosphere. Perfect place for a Friday night out with friends Tried the new winter menu and it was delicious. Had mushroom risotto with cod and my favourite lemon tart.

Never had a bad meal here. Need more variety on draught beer. Portion size is very good.

went in for a drink on the Friday night 23/8/2024and it looked and felt like a really nice place to eat. Decided to go for lunch on Thursday 5/9/2024, my friend had a steak sandwich and it was awful and burnt, she had asked for rare, it went back to the kitchen and was replaced. I had the fish and it was cold, soggy and like rubber, because we had already returned one meal decided to let it go and just pick at it. The waitress was another level rude, as she printed out my receipt I asked if I should keep the bill as a receipt instead, she did'nt answer and then blurted out "you talking to me". She had an attitude all the time we were in there, I just dont understand why these people are kept in employment if they dont like being there

Top restaurant and lovely food. Didn’t see any dragons though.

Excellent early evening meal. Friendly helpful staff and a discount available with the app. One of our goto restaurants.

We were served by Arabella who was very good and very pleasant

Not good quality food. The vibe is off, upon entering it comes across as a country pub but when seated and viewing menus it then changes to maybe a fine dining restaurant, the menu is confusing as it isn't obvious what they are about despite saying they are a Mediterranean style restaurant, maybe chose a menu where the chef can perfect a selection of dishes rather than have all types on there. The calamari rings were really low quality and not cooked properly. The mushroom starter was okay but have had better at a lower cost restaurants. We both decided on the minted lamb with potatoes and asparagus and asked for it to be pink. It didn't come pink and the potatoes were very very dry and so bland. The waitress was kind and took it back to be remade however it wasn't any better the 2nd time and still wasn't pink. Very dry and just seemed like low quality ingredients. I have never not eaten a restaurants meal (or at least given it a good go) because I have anxiety I just usually bite my tongue and get on with it. However this meal ended in me having a few painful bites before rushing to the bathroom and vomiting, it was inedible. which has never happened before. The knives were not sharp enough to cut the lamb. The waitress did offer to again try rectify the situation by asking if we wanted a different meal but by this point I wouldn't have been able to stomach anything further so maybe a partial refund could've been offered. I would have asked but felt unwell and stressed by this point that I didn't want the extra stress of trying to get refunded. We just paid and left hungry. Total cost was £70 for the meal with starter and 2 drinks each. Offer included bottle of wine which was a nice complimentary in the deal. I guess that's the only positive thing I can take away from today.

Had Sunday Roast dinner Roast potatoes was so cold 🥶 not good £120.not happy.

Great family pub, delicious food at reasonable prices. Friendly staff in attractive surroundings. 2nd visit and I plan to visit again soon. Highly Recommend 👍

Fantastic evening, the waitress was attentive but not overbearing. Food was nicely cooked, will definitely revisit.

Service was great and the place is nice, but sadly the food was disappointing. The soup was quite bland and the pie needed more gravy, and the pastry was stuck to the dish and difficult to get out. Such a shame.

If Heineken did gastro pubs! (Probably the best gastro pub in Lymn) Our firm favourite for food, atmosphere, location and service. Possibly best ego in their chain (and I've been to around 65% of them so far) Keep up the amazing work, it's really appreciated

Lovely cosy place for lunch, recommended

I never leave reviews but this place deserves it!! The staff are so welcoming and chatty, the food was unreal, compliments to the chef. It was so clean and tidy. Amazing atmosphere, will 10000% be returning!!!

We fancied a quick walk around Lymm on our way back home from a day out. Road diversion sent us past the village.We were hungry and spotted the pub from the road and popped in on the off chance. We'll worth it.....Nice place, good food, good service, reasonably priced. Didn't even bother with Lymm in the end!!!

There’s always a knee jerk reaction to splurge out all the negatives. My hope is Ego takes this and thinks about making some changes for the good. First and foremost it needs an identity. I couldn’t decide if it was Italian, Mediterranean, steakhouse or something else. What I do know is catering for so many different styles means you don’t generally master any, leading to a hodge bodge lottery of meals that may miss the mark one day, but others it might not. The blessing in this strategy is you will always please at least a good percentage, but always meet only mediocrity. Couple this with a country style captive audience and you have something. First and foremost vegan food has moved on significantly, the alternatives are huge now. If your going to go for pizzas ditch the cheese and look around for better alternatives, what you use may look like cheese but is an old style and ends up being a glue like substance when left for only a minute to cool. Invest in better dough (it did seem shop bought bases) base and even ditch the cheese in some cases. It will work better. The menus needs to be clearer, what looked like mozzarella and tomato (usually sliced with olive oil and herbs) it was clear on the menus it wasn’t this, and even the mozzarella was nothing like mozzarella, the starter of mushrooms and garlic, pretty simple I know, done well is lovely. However the chef didn’t check the food or was too busy, because it was raw and warmed through. Edible but not ideal. On the plus side the falafel was nice, but if memory serves that was the same as the starter so wasn’t sure what the difference was. The meals were generally a little oily. Overall a lack lustre meal that lacked a number of parts to make it even a reasonable experience. My advise is to go back to the board and get the identity sorted out reduce the menus to a point that allows you to do some special meals rather than doing everything. Get some real un bias testing done, by vegans. I want all restaurants to succeed in a difficult climate, I know that’s hard, but what is also hard is parting with hard earned cash for an escape from normal life to share some time with family and the experience centred around what should be good food isn’t. The saving grace was the team serving they were attentive and worked things out, but the kitchen is failing them and they are making excuses for the kitchen! I will say good luck and I hope you can make it through the rough times, but with these meals I fear for the business in a very competitive market with a lot of innovation at a more cost effective price point.

The food was well presented and really tasty, better than previous times I've been since it changed to Ego. Lovely atmosphere, my friends and I really enjoyed ourselves. Will definitely be going back.

Food was fabulous but service was poor. Made to feel like we were in their way, poor waiter service ..... usually a big tipper left nothing!

Nice pub food was really good not large portions but decent quality staff were pleasant and efficient there was 20 of us and food came out pretty much together

Lamb rump was amazing fantastic. The service as always was spot on. Although it was reasonably busy it's still possible to hold a conversation unlike some other restraunts!!

Excellent food, service and atmosphere. Really good value as they had extended the 50% off main courses for a further week. Brilliant promotion will ensure we will return soon.

We went for kebab night great deal food was amazing as always.

We visited on a half price kebab night with the family and the kebabs were excellent we also had some garlic bread and a couple of other starters the drinks were served promptly and even though it was busy we didn't wait long for the food the staff were also very attentive the only small thing was we only had one hour fifteen minutes which was really not enough I think an extra fifteen minutes would be better.

It is what it is. A good sized portion of calamari. Could have done with a bit more dip TBH. But well priced. Good rump steak but my plate was cold. Great creme brulé. All in all we had a good time. Lovely efficient service from pleasant FOH staff. Perfect for 80th Birthday low key celebration. Music not to loud for conversation.

Very nice Saturday lunch. Good choice on the gluten-free menu. Food delicious and service excellent.

Fabulous food the waitress was amazing we were asked as soon as walked in about allergies which is a sign of good place to eat as my hubby is coeliac.

It's now Ego at the Green Dragon, so most definitely focused on food, although there is a small bar area. Warm and cosy and always seems quite busy, with "special" kebab nights and steak nights. The staff are busy but friendly and helpful, the food was Ok, the prices a little on the high side. Alright if you're passing, but not a must go to destination...

Came for a birthday meal tonight. While staff and place both nice as always we were very disappointed to find mostly the same mains on the al a carte menu that there has been on there for over 12 months. There was a tapas menu as well but a bit of a shake up would have been good. I had the sirloin steak which was very fatty and a quite bland peppercorn sauce. When I showed the amount of fat I had to the waiter this was greeted with "it is sirloin' whatever that means!!! Won't be back

Lovely place and Really nice food.

6 of us ate here and none of us was aware that the wrap was hidden in the base of a kebab holder. Shame on you for not informing us that they were hidden under the small dish. The food was nice even though you gave me and one of my sister's the wrong dishes.

A bit disappointed with the Green Dragon tonight, table for 7 adults plus 1 child. Lovely table and seated immediately only to be given, worn out, food and drink stained menu’s that had not been wiped down. The cleanliness of the menus didn’t give much confidence to the hygiene of the pub or food to come. First impressions last!!! The full service lasted 2.5hrs, food and drink was okay but the Mixed Kebabs at around £24 each had morsel sized meat. The chicken dishes came over dried and we know why this happens and for £190 we could have spent the money better elsewhere. The Bill wasn’t correct and took two attempts of making it right. On the night we had an average meal and it was nothing special, the food, drink stained menus that had not been cleaned were really off putting. Overall a 3 star - the staff were lovely but lacked the passion for overall cleanliness. Pride must come from and driven from the top, I feel that the pride wasn’t there on the day and this is why we will not eat there again.

Only 4 stars as the waitress messed the bill up twice. Other than that, a nice evening. Food pretty good although my daughter opted for a vegan dish ( can't remember what it was) but it was a bit spicy for her. I would go again but it's a fair distance for a meal.

This restaurant is the whole package. The only slight niggle, are the barking dogs which I found annoying when trying to eat my lunch. Maybe the website should state, well-behaved dogs only.

We booked for Sunday lunch at 615pm, and were reliably informed, that it would still be available. As soon as we sat down ,we were told, no beef available, that was the only carved meat they did , so we had lamb rump £4 extra served pink, no it was over cooked . We ordered cauliflower cheese as a side, no none available, the roasted root veg and potatoes were hardly roasted ,the inclusive green vegetables and mint sauce, didn't arrive until we chased them, so the rest of the meal went cold. Poor service. very disappointing

Fantastic meal for four on Father's Day. Steak cooked to perfection with creamy peppercorn sauce and just enough fries. Washed down by a couple of pints of Camden Hells! Look at my other reviews to see where I've been!

We called in, after driving past and deciding we were hungry. So glad we did. They were busy but managed to squeeze us in. The atmosphere was lovely, calm and welcoming. We had the Moroccan Lamb, wow it was delicious, certainly has a kick to it. The pizza garlic bread with cheese has to be the best I have ever tasted. The young man who served us was ever so pleasant, he looked after us perfectly, not in our faces but not invisible either. Overall, we had a fabulous time here. We will definitely be going again to

Arrived a tad early waited for pre booked table for 30 mins, it was terribly busy, our waitress looked liked she couldn't be arsed with us we asked for parmisan cheese 3 times her face was a picture of disdain, she was so offhand with us, we sat at 2 circle tables shoved together & did not have enough room to put all our plates, it seemed they chose to overbook whish affects service standards, the food was delicious however service not so, I was a head waitress I know how it goes especially when it's busy however it was borderline bad attitude towards us when we asked for anything she needs some customer service training I'd say , apart from this we did have beautiful food & the manager guy was super kind & helpful it was just this girls attitude was so off ! Must of been having a bad day because it was busy possibly anyway we'd still return she cheered up a bit at the end of our meal maybe she was glad we were soon leaving! 🙈🤣

Great food and attentive staff. Would have been 5 stars but we were sat adjacent to a table where one guest was very loud. No accounting for taste but I don't especially enjoy listening to others conversations.

Dogs and food dont mix,i left a review saying this.The manager got back to me saying they have a small area near the bar where dogs can go.This option was not given to me by the greeter and me and my wife were fuming at a dog jumping up and watching us eat

Lovely staff & warm decor of the restaurant. Food was nice a touch expensive for a basic Greek salad was £14.95 however it was lovely. Had an issue with one of the meals which was rectified promptly and courteously. Would visit again. Thanks

Being a vegan it was nice to see a full dedicated vegan menu and not some added afterthought as a token of not being seen to be prejudiced as in most other eateries. In times of food production and waste being a very culpable part of our global climate change individual changes matter. So bravo to Ego for offering the chance for people to make healthy and ethical choices
