The best Chinese around by a country Mile!

Not the first time we have visited and there is a reason for that! The food is simply delicious. We came as a family of 9 and had starters and mains plus side dishes. Nothing was too much trouble and the food came out hot and stayed warm. The staff are so lovely especially with my young nieces. The only very slight criticism was that the shared starter is £18 each person so be aware of this and it can be slightly misread from the menu. Which does seem a lot, may be better getting 3 or 4 individual startes to share. But other than that its always a pleasure to eat here and shows when all the plates go back completely empty!

Lovely food with great service. Called in on spec and found our party of 3 a table. Went for a chef special and was not disappointed.

Ordered a pick said 45 minutes got there food not ready waiting another 30 mins The young girl was on her own she really could have done with some one there to help has she had to keep running up and down stairs got home and food was just warm

Well, what a find, having dined at many of the Chines restaurants in and around Leeds since the 1970’s and slowly watching these close down, I thought I was destined to not find a Chinese restaurant that could cook quality food the traditional Cantonese way. So finding the Great Wall Chinese in Brighouse was a lucky find. It was not a long drive either, just like going from one side of Leeds to the other! Fresh food cooked to order promptly, memories of my favourite dishes came flooding back and my family and me were not disappointed, so we have booked another table for next Saturday, keep up the good works.

I had a lovely time with friends. It wasn't as cheerful as in the past, and we didn't get a Christmas cracker.

Superb food. We had the buffet and I loved all of it. Staff were super too.

Just been here for the first time, had the 6 course banquet and blown away, everything was absolutely gorgeous. Add in the wonderfully friendly and efficient staff and the great value prices and it is a winner all round, we will be back for sure.

Popped in on our way home from Halifax after reading reviews and asked for a table for two. They said they were busy but managed to squeeze us in! So glad they did, the food was fantastic and the service was brilliant.

Ordered takeaway, been a regular here if we get Chinese. Crispy duck and salt and pepper chicken wings were great. Main courses were rubbish. My main had no veg which it normally does just meat and sauce, rice was old it was a disappointing meal, other main was bland won't be going back.

Google search as I was passing through brought me here. Food and service was excellent. The crispy duck was freshly prepared and delicious. Food on other tables looked similarly fabulous.

Top notch Chinese restaurant The food was really excellent. Wonderful flavours, excellent quality ingredients, extremely generous portions I had steamed prawn dumplings followed by duck stuffed with minced prawn. Both were delicious. Excellant meal, friendly staff, Great value for money

On entering the restaurant it took several buzzes for staff to be alerted. The restaurant is upstairs so when dad who's 86 finally managed them were sat at our table. Our drinks order was taken almost immediately, we opted for Chardonnay, this was placed in a cooler but without its top?! It took a short while for the starter but I had to get my own knife. After we asked for a short time between courses, but didn't expect 30 minutes! My lamb was completely fatty so won't be ordering that again. Dad's meal however was satisfactory and he even took it home. At £67 very disappointed after being fed fat.

Absolutely fantastic. Food was hot and plentiful. Great value for money too.

Me and my husband called had the duck starter which was spot on. Then I had beef curry fried rice very nice. Hubby had the English chicken and chips which he said was lovely. The staff was great definitely call again.

The service is AMAZING !! Always someone there when needed but defnitley not intrusive. Very friendly, polite, patient and knowledgable. Had a couple of minor issues with some of the food but certainly nothing major and wold definitely recommend to anyone

Been visiting The Great Wall for 20 years now still rate it as the best in the area. The staff are always polite, the food is always good and I've never had any issue collecting food to take away. Solid all round.

Myself and my husband went last night (20/6/23) celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary, the food was outstanding, the staff were so friendly, atmosphere was lovely and relaxing, absolutely cannot fault this place at all. Looking forward to going back again soon. Keep up the good work !!

We attended a 50th birthday party on 3/6/2023. There was a hot buffet which was delicious and plentyfull. The staff were very friendly, helpfull and professional. There was even a ice cream machine on self service which was a great surprise. Will we going again? ..... Absolutley !!!!

The chicken wrapped in lettuce was delicious. For my main I had the seafood special, but I was disappointed with the squid which was inedible- although another member of our party said that hers was perfect. I did mention that I couldn't eat the squid to the staff as they were clearing the table but I didn't get any comment or apology. The staff were attentive but not obtrusive. Parking is an issue - I couldn't find anywhere close by so parked at the back of the building, as we were leaving I was boxed in & on finding the owner of the car was told that it was staff parking , however, there are no signs to advise that is the case. I doubt that I will bother going back

We came to celebrate our Nana’s 87th birthday. It’s her favourite place to eat and we had a wonderful time. They took such wonderful care of us and spoiled her rotten. Would thoroughly recommend to anyone. The food is lovely and fresh and the staff are great.

We went to The New Great Wall in February, 2023, as my Birthday treat. Click the "Menu" link on The New Great Wall's Facebook page, and you are shown a menu for a 5-course meal at £20. On double-checking, we noticed the menu was uploaded in 2016, so decided to check their website. - That's the 1st scam... Misdirect you to old prices. On their actual website, click the "Menu" link or the "Dine with us A-la-carte" button and you are directed to a take-away menu with prices! That's the 2nd scam... Misdirect you to a cheaper menu. There was a 5-course meal advertised on their website for £30. Believing this was the price, we phoned to book a table for 2. We were then told that the website was out-of-date (It's now 2 weeks later and the same menu is online), and the price was actually £34. That's the 3rd scam... Increase the price while you're on the phone, while accepting no responsibility for the £4 increase. Not accepting the price displayed is possibly also illegal under the UK Trades Description Act. We decided to accept the price of £34 quoted over the phone, and booked a table for 2. On arrival, there was no menu displayed before we sat at the table - That's the 4th scam... Get you to the table so that it's uncomfortable for you to leave - This is illegal under UK law. When we were seated, we were presented with the menu... and the 5-course meal price had risen again... another £10 to £44. That's the 5th scam... A rise of £14 from seeing the meal advertised to being seated at the restaurant. We immediately asked to speak with the manager, James. James said the price we had been quoted was for a take-away meal. We explained that this wasn't feasible because we had booked a table (hence, dine-in) at that price. He then asserted dismissively that he wasn't bothered about a couple of pounds, before raising the quoted price by another £2! - That's the 6th scam... The manager didn't take responsibility for incorrectly advertising a lower price, and covertly rising their prices along the way. The attitude of the restaurant seemed to be that The New Great Wall would rather get you seated, bump the price and risk you feeling too uncomfortable to leave the restaurant. We stayed only because it was my partner's birthday treat for me; however, it tainted our evening a little. I understand that businesses are cutting corners due to the high costs the UK is currently bearing; however, businesses need to understand that people have long memories, and repeat custom might be the difference between survival and bankruptcy. Obviously, we did not enjoy our dining experience, and will not be returning. The food felt more take-away quality than dine-in, and it certainly wasn't worth the eventual price. There are so many quality restaurants nearby with good food, reasonable prices, and that give you a feel-good factor.

We to my in laws for a family meal on Sunday as a thank you for looking after our dig whilst we where away. It was my mother in law who suggested the Great Wall we had been before post covid and enjoyed it. I booked a table if 4 for 4:30 we arrived 10 minutes early and was taken to our table straight away, drinks order was taken and drinks arrived quickly. We decided on the 5 course menu for 4. Soup Crispy Duck 5 mains with rice Desert Teas and coffees £25 ph Great value for the amount and quality of food, the salt and pepper chicken was crispy and the stake in black bean so tender. All 4 of enjoyed the food, the service was great never once did we need to flag anyone down for drinks, the staff made sure we where well fed and watered by the time we went to leave at 6:20 the restaurant was full which isn’t surprising as the service and food was excellent Thank you for making us feel so welcome, we will see you again soon 😊

Standards are definitely dropping. Last time we ordered we complained about duck dish and was assured only duck breast used. Today just same fatty, leg meat awful. Supposed to be shredded fillet steak in canton choice dish but wasn't. Not shredded at all and definitely not fillet. Also prices have been hiked by 20%.

Visited tonight a group of 8. Was very busy. I’m coeliac and normally Chinese food is very limited for me, however I was assured most of the menu was available to me, just a few items were not. The staff were fantastic with everyone but amazing for me! I was even given gluten free rocky road cake when everyone else got their fortune cookie at the end. Will most definitely be returning! Thank you for a wonderful experience and beautiful food. Our entire party agreed the meal was great!

We have been eating at James’s restaurants for over 30 years and have never had a bad experience. The food is great and the staff are always friendly.

Used to be 5* takeaway but not quite as good anymore. Don’t get me wrong the takeaway food is great restaurant quality still. They don’t deliver but that is ok, sure it would add to the price if they paid for delivery drivers. The menu has loads of choice and the price is not bad. The main issues are that on busy nights the restaurant, understandably I suppose, takes priority over takeaway and it can mean waiting ages. They should probably just not take takeaway orders if the restaurant is busy. A few family favourites have been removed from the takeaway menu as apparently they “don’t travel well”. Seems weird as all food goes cooler etc on drives home. I offered to risk it as the dishes had always been fine but was told no which is sad. But they have other good dishes so not a dealbreaker. A big, more recent problem, is that they seem to be increasingly often getting one or two items on takeaway orders wrong. Happened for the 4th time in a few months to us tonight. They are always apologetic and offer either to remove the missing/wrong things from your next bill, which doesn’t work as you’re then short of food, or to do it for you to come and get - which is fine except it means paying the petrol costs twice (not a joke now) and that the rest of your food has gone cold by the time you get the things the messed up. I have started experimenting with other local Chinese places but none do food quite as good so I do keep coming back to Great Wall for now.

Faultless Chinese restaurant. Tried here for the first time last night and I was so impressed with our visit. The service is like no other, so well managed and everything is quick, prompt and the staff can't do enough for you. They're all friendly and willing. The food is also spot on, high quality, plenty of choice. Can't wait to come back.

Very disappointed,went in to order a takeaway as we were near the restaurant, only around 6”o”clock in the evening on Saturday 18th nov, it was very busy with people picking up takeaways but we were quite prepared to wait, tried several times to get to order the food but was ignored, then as I got to the counter the owner told the man at the counter no more walk in orders knowing full well I was trying to order some food so he refused to take my order, definitely won’t be going again, also didn’t like the way the owner talked to his staff very arrogant rude man

Visited last week and won't be going again. Carpets are disgusting, table clothes are disgusting, service was OK, food was terrible.

Family favourite, especially our grandson's. Lovely food served by friendly and always cheerful staff. Won't be long before we're back.
