Cafe Thai Tapas in Calderdale

One of my favourite Thai restaurants in the Uk! Having eaten in Thailand many times I can say the quality of food, ingredients and presentation is too class!

Superb- combines fantastic tapas and equally good Thai food. Combination as in mix and match was fantasitic. We had three tapas between us (a couple) and Tom Yum soup as mains. We have been to many tapas restaurant previously and visited Vietnam but this place really takes some beating. make sure you make a booking to ensure a place.

The staff are lovely, the place is nice and the food is quite tasty. It's just not worth the prices they charge for some things. We paid a small fortune for a couple of the tapas style dishes and got a main meal and side too, sharing all elements. The meal and side were tasty but the tapas dishes were very small (I'm aware tapas is small plates but these were smaller than average) and very oily. The wontons in particular are very, very greasy and would be much nicer in filo pastry, in my opinion. As I say, the staff have always been lovely and if you can sit by a window you can watch the world go by on the main road. It's just the prices/portions that let the place down. For £50 we could and will in future be getting much more food of a higher quality

Excellent quality food, freshly cooked,lots of choice, decent prices

Had a take away from here last week when visiting Halifax for the evening at a hotel. Took an hour to arrive, but they did warn us of that, and when it came, the beef in the curry dish was what I’d describe as inedible. Tough and dry, I rang to complain, and they did offer me a new one sent out, but it would of been too late for that, so I asked for a refund and they said they don’t give refunds out. Not good, when we couldn’t eat the main course. I won’t be ordering from here again.

I booked bottomless brunch here on a Saturday afternoon for a hen party. The food was fantastic and actually the best Thai food I have had (seen photos). The service was attentive and the drinks plentiful. We all had a great time and said we’d definitely return to try the standard menu. Thank you.

Dining here was the worst decision. I've been vomiting all week because the food was spoiled. I didn't like the presentation at first glance, but I gave them a chance. The mussels were not fresh... They had probably been in the kitchen since they opened. If you want to have diarrhea, don't hesitate to come to CAFE THAI TAPAS... If on the other hand you want quality food, avoid this place please. Disgusting.

Fantastic authentic Thai food in a great environment with amazing waiting staff. The two ladies serving on Saturday afternoon into the evening deserve six stars, doing the work of 4 staff by the looks of it 👏The bottomless brunch was well worth the money and the drinks were replaced as soon as required. Well done and thank you, we will be back. Highly recommended. Cater for different dietary requirements. Parking nearby.

Went here tonight and loved it. The decor is very nice and many options for vegans. They're extremely accommodating for vegans too as I managed to adapt dishes from the menu to make them vegan. They were very helpful! The food was excellent, the service was great and I'll definitely be visiting again. I would highly recommend to all!

Really nice, authentic feeling Thai food.

A lovely experience. The staff and service were great. We tried a variety of dishes as the waitress advised but a few of them tasted very similar. I have no idea if this makes sense but it seems as if the woks were all making the same dish or burnt a bit or something to me. My daughter's food was the best though and I'd definitely go back for that. Worth another try for sure.

The food is fantastic here and the staff are really on the ball and friendly. A very good selection of drinks available. They do an early bird mid week which o think is 5pm till 6:30pm, this is fantastic value for money 👍🏻

Came here on my partners birthday, and we were absolutely blown away by the level of quality Cafe Thai restaurant delivered. The staff were brilliant, as they had professionalism, yet would also have a bit of banter and make us smile. The food was the best Thai food we have ever had. Just the right portions and superb quality. The wine selection is also absolutely spot on. We will be back.

Tasty fragrant and great service The deep fried calamari is fab some lovely veggie options loved the pack Choi with spring onions and garlic and of course we had to have the Thai green curry! Windows were open to let in the cool breeze as it had been a hot sultry day Never disappoints

Our first visit to Cafe Thai restaurant and tapas food was very nice, staff are very friendly and had good communication skills. when we arrived the waitress put us in on a table which was away from a loud lot of people who were there as Saturdays is bottomless brunch 2-4. On bottomless brunch days, it seems to be full of people who just get drunk and are very loud. But this should not let you book at another time as I said previously the food is very nice and so are the staff. And definitely worth a visit. We got a few dishes between us and found it very well priced for what we had. Also, just to add on the day, you only get 90 minutes to sit at the table to eat, but after that, you can just move to the bar. Overall I think I would of give 5 stars if I would have gone on a different day, but next time I visit, I will definitely review it again

Food was delicious. The menu looks a little pricey but you're paying for quality. Would recommend at least 3 dishes.

We absolutely love cafe Thai and order takeaway on a regular basis and the food is always top notch but was a little disappointed that we only got four pieces of chicken ( deep fried strips) for six pounds , felt that there should definitely been six strips for the cost of the starter , but again the food was lovely as always and the delivery ladies have all been lovely to deal with 🤩🤩

We have visited cafe thai many times, especially in the last 12 months. it’s our go to ‘date night’ however our visit on 25/1/23 has left us feeling very disappointed and underwhelmed. The staff are always so attentive ‘ have you been before, we recommend ‘x’ amount of dishes’ etc, however tonight noticing that the manager and the girl with the dark hair who had worked here to a while are not on shift tonight, goes to show. The service has been non existent, as well as the food being massively not up to standard. We waited a while for our drinks order to be taken and to arrive, i ordered the spicey spring rolls, they arrived with sticky rice ( although our curry didn’t arrive for a further 15 mins) i understand with tapas dishes arrive as and when ready to ensure freshness however there is common sense lacking in sending a rice dish with no curry. The blonde waitress put our dishes down and muttered something under her breath with no idea what she was saying and ran off swiftly from the table, the thai waitress asked why we had left the spring rolls, we told her they were funny tasting and tasted (off/sour) strongly of lemons. Her only reply was ‘ so you just don’t like them’ she the took the remainder of our dish into the kitchen and had a conversation with the kitchen staff, and pointed us out to the chefs, she then picked up and menu and took it back into kitchen where the conversation between them continued, this left us feeling very awkward and embarrassed. Once we finished our meals the same waitress very abruptly said ‘ are you done?’ we were not asked how the meal was or given any answer to the odd tasting spring rolls, she then cleared only 2 dishes from the table, a waitress with ginger hair was the only saving grace as she asked if we wanted anything else to which we simply asked for the bill as we felt so uncomfortable with the lack of service and unprofessionalism by the thai waitress and the young blonde waitress. We paid our bill which was around £45, this is not a lot as our bill for cafe thai is usually around £80/£90 as we always enjoy the service, food and atmosphere and always stay for drinks and desserts, however today we just wanted to leave after. Finally we stood up to leave and was surprised that the thai waitress has put a chair behind my partners chair without announcing it while clearing a near by table, she is 9 months pregnant,not only is this very unprofessional it’s also very unsafe, we would love to come back to cafe thai and enjoy the food and service again, as it is sentimental to us as we had our first date there and have celebrated many happy memories, birthdays and celebrations there, but our visit tonight has put us off.

The staff were lovely, very helpful and attentive. Spent time explaining the menu and because one of our party can not eat food which is too spicy they made a few suggestions. One being that certain spices items could be left out if we wish. Nice restaurant fairly small though. The only downside is accessibility which is mentioned on the website. The steps up too it are fairly steep so if anyone has mobility problems they may struggle. Tried a few different dishes and all were tasty and the portion size is large.

It was my first time eating here last night and booked a table of 6 for my mums birthday. We had 3 surprise guests but the staff accommodated very quickly. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was lovely. Will definitely be returning!

☎️ Booking: The online booking was easy to do. The website isn’t the easiest to navigate. There are two restaurants on the webpage to the downstairs venue on the street and to the Tapas venue which we booked - this is upstairs above the (old) main shop which I now think has moved a smaller takeaway premises 3 or 4 shop windows adjacent to the building. We booked online, and then I hadn’t realised I booked the wrong day. Thankfully, the restaurant called me up when I thought I was arriving and happily changed to the correct day. Very polite and friendly. Excellent first impression 👌 🚶‍♂️ Arrival: We felt like a spare part as we arrived upstairs, standing by the till. There was no one there to say hello, and welcome us, even though the space was small. Easily fixed with a simple, “Hello. Sorry. One minute and I’ll be with you…” is all it takes to make a customer feel welcome. The restaurant had two busy tables when we arrived (Friday 5PM) and it was full when we left (6.30). 👋🏻 When we were greeted, the waitress ‘waved’ us to the table with a ‘silent hand gesture’ - that way - and we had to find the table ourselves. Again, table service easily fixed with a “Let me show you your table.” It takes 10 seconds. 🪑 Table: We booked a table for three, and we sat on a raised sitting/table area by the window. They have lovely red brickwork, but because it was the winter, there was small bits of unpointed brickwork which let small drafts of cold air through, so it was actually quite cold to sit there. In true Thai style, you have a spoon and fork 🍴 to eat with - no knife - with a napkin. No table sauces sadly. 🍽️ Service: One of the waitresses was fantastic. She made us feel very welcome and talked us through the menu. Nothing was too much trouble. She celebrated each dish and offered recommendations when we needed it. Overall, the table service was excellent but it could be improved by reducing the amount of different waitresses coming to our table asking us the same questions: “Can I take this?” “Are you ready for XYZ?” All very well considered, but easily fixed by the restaurant if assigning one person to a table. 🥘 Food: the food was stunning! It was a great choice, plenty for children to eat, and authentic Thai/spicy quality. It was always interesting to watch the chef cook the food, traditional Thai kitchen with lots of cooks, made in seconds, and delivered in true Tapas style - as and when ready. When the dishes were cooked in the kitchen, wasn’t busy, all the cooks would just simply stand there and chat, which is funny, and if you understand Thai culture, that’s how they do it, but as a business, it’s probably not conducive for productivity. There was one waitress who kept popping behind the kitchen and eating for all to see. Whilst this is harmless, I don’t think it’s hygienic or good for customers to see. The only thing I didn’t like - despite eating them all - was being asked if we wanted some prawn crackers. A small bowl for £2.50 is a steep addition when really these could be complimentary in the grand scheme of things considering how cheap they are to make. However, the food was fantastic. I’ve been to Thailand 🇹🇭 12/15 times and loved the rural culture. It’s probably one of the best restaurants in terms of taste and cuisine we have tried in the area. 🍷 🍺 Drinks: All the usual things on offer; draft beer and spirits. Although my wife was disappointed when they didn’t have Gordons gin in stock. 💰 Value: we left £30 deposit online, which wasn’t itemised on the bill, but we were told (thankfully I asked) that this would only be used if the customer doesn’t turn up and refunded to the bank account. Two adults + one child, we spent £104 on lots ~10 dishes and 3 drinks. Our table was full of dishes; we didn’t finish them all. We were stuffed 😃 and carried 3 dishes home. 🚨 I’m super interested in food and service. I want to see local businesses succeed. Despite my detailed review, this was a great evening/food. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Overall, fantastic food and we will go again!

Delivered promptly within twenty minutes, the delivery driver was very polite and waited patiently for me although I was late. Food is as good as it says in all other reviews here. As soon as I smelt the fresh basil and lime leaves I knew it was freshly prepared Thai food. I particularly liked the satay chicken and red Thai curry (thick gang Penang)

We loved it. Hadn't been for a few years - the menu is a mix of traditional thai mains and smaller Thai 'tapas' style plates. Would recommend the deep fried sea bass and the sliced duck. And they still have a great early bird deal on weekdays.

Booked a table for 3, the dining room was pleasant with plenty of staff mulling around ,only one other couple in besides our selves, i ordered a starter and a duck main course. Our meals duly arrived both my courses together the duck was 6 tiny pieces in a sauce and was clap cold i informed the waitress who microwaved it rendering it very tough the only dish that was good was my daughters pad thai so that seems to be the limit of this venues culinary skills

2 of us had the tapas, 6 portions of pork, chicken, squid, sea bass, prawns, all hot and tasty, service by 2 young waitresses excellent, would definitely recommend.

We visited with friends, having loved it previously. How can incredible keep getting better? Cafe Thai Tapas is incredible- we have the privilege of eating out every week, through work, in fantastic restaurants- but nothing beats this for flavour, service and value. Simply the best ….

Really fantastic food and good service.

We have had takeout from this restaurant for years but the last twice we ordered items were missing from the order. Last time I phoned and was told I could wait an extra 1 1/2 hours for it to be delivered or have a discount off my next order. Ordered today and explained what had happened last time, no record of the discount mentioned last time so was told they would send an extra peanut sauce with the chicken satay. Not only was there no extra sauce but the sauce that came with the satay was watery and inedible. Such a shame as we have recommended this restaurant to so many people

In my original review I complained that the staff don't get any tips that you put on your card. I've since spoken to Cafe Thai and they have said that although they don't encourage tipping as part of your card payment, (as it is difficult to share out at the end of the evening) if it does happen they reimburse the staff tips pot in cash and the pot is then shared amongst all the staff. I'm more than happy to be corrected as this is a truly fab restaurant. The food is to die for.

Im going to start by saying but I believe in totally honest reviews. Often you get positive reviews for the sake of appeasing etiquette. SO upon arrival at cafe Thai we were greeted by a lovely waitress who was extremely helpful. We were shown to our table and our drink orders were taken immediately. When the drinks were brought to our table by the waitress. I had concerns about out the meals that I wanted to have contained gluten on the menu. I asked the waitress if she could find out what it was in the curry that contained gluten. She went above and beyond the Call of Duty to find this out and quickly came back to the table and informed me that the meal that I wanted to eat the chef would prepare it gluten free. This alleviated my anxiety to such a degree but I decided to review This 5-star, (6 star if I could) The food was unreal. This is a bold statement however it is completely true. This is the best Thai food I have ever eaten, this includes travelling around Thailand and Southeast Asia. nicest flavours and richest ingredients were amalgamated to create such aromas that the nose comes alive with the tongue in a almost euphoric experience. Staff: amazing Food: five star Setting: next to the window so the experience was even better. Beautiful, clean and in all, perfect. Would recommend and I'll be back before you can say "west vale" De he heeee licious

Food is always really nice but service is just too slow. We ordered our take away an hour and 50 mi s ago and still waiting....

The food was excellent as I am a Thai and I know that the food was authentic but the portion of my main course and the jasmine rice was too small for me and I don't want to order double portion as I think it was a little bit pricey already. The service was good. The waitresses were friendly. But the food didn't arrive at the same time for all of us, we had to wait then the food turned a little bit cold before we can all start at the same time. The music was good but it could be nicer if you have Thai music instead of English music as its a Thai restaurant. So for all these reasons I took 2 star away.

I don’t write reviews often but I could not wait to come home to write this one. I wanted to take my wife for something different and special and this was one of the most beautiful meals we have ever had. Waitresses were very beautiful and polite and really pleasant as well. The thing that impressed me the most were the ladies working in the kitchen which you can see as it is open and I could see them smiling and putting love in the food which is out of this world. THEY ARE JUST AMAZING AND DESERVE MUCH MORE THAN MY REVIEW. It became so rare to find something like that and then I find it in Halifax😊.They are the reason I will come back again and again. 5 star is not enough. See you soon. Much love… Sandra&Kresimir
